The sponsor's of this contest asked me to thank everyone for their wonderful entries. There are some really talented writers and poets here and the decision was very difficult but finally after much arguing and a few punches thrown winners were chosen.

The vampire's bite, and the zombie's groan
The werewolf's howl and the dead ghosts' moan.
Creatures of my dreams that gave me a fright,
awoke me with a start, that Halloween night.
I heard their cries, carried through the wind.
My eyes opened to a hooded witch's grin.
She hovered over my bed with a smile,
"Come, my pretty Let's walk a while."
I gasped, "Who are you?" She said soon I would know
That's when she mounted her broom and flew out the window.
We strolled together down my road.
Well, I walked, the old witch rode.
But within moments we were in New Orleans
And 'round the next corner stood The Vampire Louis!
The witch left me with him, and we started to walk,
Continuing down the new dark street we walked one block.
"You have stood by a vampire and held no fear.
Our kind isn't as frightening as we appear.
"Now since you can walk and not fear an attack,
your next escort will be Jacob Black"
In the street lamp's glow you could see his black hair
however nothing about him gave me a scare.
Turning now, he was just my height,
and wearing the style a kid my age might.
"Now you see not all tales are true,
and when push comes to shove, I'm just like you."
His words I pondered as he pointed ahead
"Remember, Michael Jackson and Casper are dead."
And in front of me stood Casper's outline
And MJ dressed in the zombie thriller design.
They walked me; MJ danced the thriller down the path.
And as he moon-walked away I couldn't help but laugh.
The witch reappeared without her hood,
and with her cackle, I understood.
"I understand now, what you are trying to tell
And all of the fears you have dispelled
But witch, with the rest, I knew them well
but I need to know who you are, before your farewell."
She laughed loudly and mounted her broomstick
"Oh come on! I'm the most famous Wicked Witch!"

Those Who Wait beyond
In the darkness they wait for the world to call,
They live to watch this night fall,
Existing in fears and haunting our minds,
Creeping in our hearts, what misery they find.
We search the horizon with wide deceiving eyes
Heart pounding, instinct doesn't lie.
You feel them there but you cannot see.
What they are you fear to be.
A shadow with form, heavy footsteps sound,
They whisper to you, calling from beneath the ground
Don't follow them to your grave
Hide your eyes, beneath your covers, be brave.
Hold onto your soul tonight,
By day break they'll be gone,
Leave a prayer next Hallowe'en Night
For those who wait beyond.

The Decision. (story)
11:00pm
So that’s it.
The truth was revealed.
My suspicions were real. I was not imagining things. I knew it.
He told me the truth. He told me everything. When he told me. I remained stiff. I did not show any emotion.
I have a dilemma. I don’t know what to do.
I can’t ask for advice either. I can’t say anything to anyone.
What am I going to do?
Is this love? I never thought it could happen to me. Love is full of sacrifices, I know now.
I have to choose.
I have to choose to either leave him and get on with my life or let him turn me into a creature of the night and spend our immortal lives together.
That’s the man I love; a creature of the night, an immortal, a vampire.
Now he’s waiting for a response. He is waiting for me to take a decision. To either remain with me or be different. I would still be me, but different, having a different life. We will fake my death and I will leave my family, friends, work, sunlight… I don’t know if I really want to leave all this, but I will have him forever. The man I chose to love.
I don’t know what to choose yet, but whatever decision I will make, I will not regret it. I was taught to never regret my decisions and I am determined.
At midnight I have to meet him and tell him my decision but not with words. He gave me two roses. One red and one black. The red one means that I chose to be with him, the black one means that I chose a life without him. Whatever decision I will take, he will judge by the color of the rose I will have in my hand.
It is a beautiful night. The sky is bright, and there is the full moon. So many stars. So many wishes I would like to make. So many questions I want to ask. So many answers I want to get.
12:00am
He is knocking on my door. It is time. I had time to think and I know what I want.
I took my decision and I am sure I took the right one.
I picked my rose.

A Conversation
The girl at the side of the road was gasping for air. The car accident had been fatal for all intents and purposes. The driver of the eighteen-wheeler had already died. His truck had careened off the road, gone over the embankment, and was now engulfed in flames at the bottom of the canyon.
The girl had not been so fortunate. Her car had slammed head-on into a tree, pushing the entire front of the car back a couple of feet. Now she was pinned behind the steering wheel, dying.
Only a couple of minutes passed before the two men had wandered up to the scene. They had, in fact, been watching the entire time. They had been talking in the forest, as they often did on Saturday nights. They had been debating the merits and demerits of the new vampire shows that were on TV this fall, when the screech of tires interrupted their debate. They shrugged their shoulders, determined to let the incident pass, but when they heard the explosion from the semi, they left the fate of their discussion to the critics and raced through the forest to where all the action was at.
They found the girl barely alive. They could hear her heart struggling to continue against the staggering odds of mechanical pulverization. The two men squatted on the crumpled remains of the hood of the car and pondered the woman for a moment. The smell of gas had infused the air with a sticky sweet odor, like a candy shop, which only served to make their stomachs growl.
The man named Erik made a movement towards the girl, but the man named Jeremiah grabbed his had before he could grab hold of her.
“What the hell!” Erik exclaimed, offended that Jeremiah was stopping him from seizing upon such an opportune moment.
Jeremiah shook his head and said, “How do you suppose that you have the right to end this woman, even if her life will be over with soon? I mean, really, do you think you have the rights of a god?”
Erik laughed, its sound bitter and self-important. “I suppose you think that her dying here is the natural course her life is supposed to take. And I suppose you figure that we aren’t meant to be here at all, so we don’t have any right to cash in on such a perfect situation. That surprises me.”
Jeremiah raised an eyebrow. “Surprises you? What? Do you think that just because I choose a different path from you that I would be all about this? She’s dying for Christ’s sake. We should just let her be?”
“I can understand the whole concept of fate. And you’re right. Some things are just meant to happen. Stock markets crashing, couple separating, a new Saw movie. Some things are just supposed to happen, but do you think that this particular woman’s death is going to serve the grand universal design in some way that is so profound that it is beyond our sphere of influence?”
Jeremiah did not let the humor in Erik’s statement go unnoticed. His reply came through a smile born from years of superiority to the human race. “Yes, fate! And who’s to say that we, just because we are vampires have any right to go messing around with fate?”
Erik looked at Jeremiah and shook his head. “Yeah, but who are you to say that we cannot be the hands of fate, guiding the universe’s next victims to their heavenly or unheavenly reward? My gods, man. Are you truly so blinded by your holier-than-thou morals that you can’t see the fact that we, the vampires, might not be instruments of the divine.”
Jeremiah laughed harder this time. “You, Erik, the vampire that was once responsible for killing all the inhabitants of an orphanage, are trying to convince me that you believe that we are in some way divine? That is just too rich. I suppose you are going to tell me that those were all mercy killings.”
Erik shook his head. “No. Of course not. That was just hunger and fun. Play. What I’m talking about, here, is though.”
“So you are saying that we should take this poor pathetic girl here and end her life, because it is the right thing to do?”
Erik placed his hand on his heart. “I am offended that you think that I can’t be moral at times. I am truly hurt by that Jeremiah. Not much, but truly I am. OK, not that much at all, but that is not the point in all this. This woman is dying, Jeremiah, and you think it would be better if we just sit here and watch her die, than to make her transition into the next life less painful?”
Jeremiah looked at the woman, and almost as if in response to Erik’s statement she jerked forward and spewed out a large amount of dark blood. She moaned briefly and coughed. Jeremiah looked back at Erik, searching his face for what he should do, even if Erik was almost never a fount for such knowledge. Erik looked back at Jeremiah and gestured toward the woman. Jeremiah looked back at her again.
Jeremiah sighed his resignation and slowly crept forward across the accordionned metal. He grabbed the woman’s head in between his hands and stretched her neck out before himself. He bit down and drained the woman of what was left of her lifeblood.
A moment later, as he rearranged her head back against the head-rest of the seat, Erik said, “Now don’t you feel better for ending her suffering?”
Jeremiah looked up at the moon as if he was watching the woman’s soul journey on its way toward heaven, and looked back over at Erik. “Yes. Yes I do feel better now.”
Erik smiled at Jeremiah and abruptly pushed him, knocking him off balance and onto the asphalt of the road. Erik laughed and said, “That’s just because you’ve got a belly full of human. Man and I thought you were a ‘vegetarian’. What a loser. Way to stick to you guns, enlightened one.”
