What is NASA’s future now that Atlantis has landed and the shuttle program is over? If NASA persists in using nuclear power in space, the agency’s future is threatened.
Between November 25 and December 15 NASA plans to launch for use on Mars a rover fueled with 10.6 pounds of plutonium, more plutonium than ever used on a rover.
The mission has a huge cost: $2.5 billion.
But if there is an accident before the rover is well on its way to Mars, and plutonium is released on Earth, its cost stands to be yet more gargantuan.
NASA’s Final Environmental Impact Statement for what it calls its Mars Science Laboratory Mission says that if plutonium is released on Earth, the cost could be as high as $1.5 billion to decontaminate each square mile of “mixed-use urban areas” impacted.
What‘s the probability of an accident releasing plutonium? The NASA document says “the probability of an accident with a release of plutonium” is 1-in-220“overall.”
If you knew your chance of not surviving an airplane flight—or just a drive in a car—was 1 in 220, would you take that trip?
And is this enormous risk necessary?
In two weeks, there’ll be a NASA mission demonstrating a clear alternative to atomic energy in space: solar power.
On August 5, NASA plans to launch a solar-powered space probe it’s named Juno to Jupiter. There’s no atomic energy involved, although NASA for decades has insisted that nuclear power is necessary for space devices beyond the orbit of Mars. With Juno, NASA will be showing it had that wrong.
“Juno will provide answers to critical science questions about Jupiter, as well as key information that will dramatically enhance present theories about the early formation of our own solar system,” says NASA on its website. “In 2016, the spinning, solar-powered Juno spacecraft will reach Jupiter.” It will be equipped with “instruments that can sense the hidden world beneath Jupiter’s colorful clouds” and make 33 passes of Jupiter.
As notes Aviation Week and Space Technology: “The unique spacecraft will set a record by running on solar power rather than nuclear radioisotope thermoelectric generators previously used to operate spacecraft that far from the Sun.”
The Mars rover to be launched, named Curiosity by NASA, will be equipped with these radioisotope thermoelectric generators using plutonium, the deadliest radioactive substance.
Juno, a large craft—66-feet wide—will be powered by solar panels built by a Boeing subsidiary, Spectrolab. The panels can convert 28 percent of the sunlight that them to electricity. They’ll also produce heat to keep Juno’s instruments warm. This mission’s cost is $1.1 billion.
In fact, Juno is not a wholly unique spacecraft. In 2004, the European Space Agency launched a space probe called Rosetta that is also solar-powered. Its mission is to orbit and land on a comet—beyond the orbit of Jupiter.
Moreover, there have been major developments in “solar sails” to propel spacecraft. Last year, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency launched its Ikaros spacecraft with solar sails taking it to Venus. In January, NASA itself launched its NanoSail-D spacecraft. The Planetary Society has been developing several spacecraft that will take advantage of photons emitted by the Sun to travel through the vacuum of space.
At no point will Juno (or the other solar spacecrafts) be a threat to life on Earth. This includes Juno posing no danger when in 2013 it makes a flyby of Earth. Such flybys making use of Earth’s gravity to increase a spacecraft’s velocity have constituted dangerous maneuvers when in recent years they’ve involved plutonium-powered space probes such as NASA’s Galileo and Cassini probes.
Curiosity is a return to nuclear danger.
NASA’s Final Environmental Impact Statement admits that a large swath of Earth could be impacted by plutonium in an accident involving it. The document’s section on “Impacts of Radiological Releases” says “the affected environment” could include “the regional area near the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the global area.”
“Launch area accidents would initially release material into the regional area, defined…to be within …62 miles of the launch pad,” says the document. This is an area from Cape Canaveral west to Orlando.
But “since some of the accidents result in the release of very fine particles less than a micron in diameter, a portion of such releases could be transported beyond…62 miles,” it goes on. These particles could become “well-mixed in the troposphere”—the atmosphere five to nine miles high—“and have been assumed to potentially affect persons living within a latitude band from approximately 23-degrees north to 30-degrees north.” That’s a swath through the Caribbean, across North Africa and the Mideast, then India and China Hawaii and other Pacific islands, and Mexico and southern Texas.
Then, as the rocket carrying Curiosity up gains altitude, the impacts of an accident in which plutonium is released would be even broader. The plutonium could affect people “anywhere between 28-degrees north and 28-degrees south latitude,” says the NASA document. That’s a band around the mid-section of the Earth including much of South America, Africa and Australia.
Dr. Helen Caldicott, president emeritus of Physicians for Social Responsibility, has long emphasized that a pound of plutonium if uniformly distributed could hypothetically give a fatal dose of lung cancer to every person on Earth. A pound, even 10.6 pounds, could never be that uniformly distributed, of course. But an accident in which plutonium is released by a space device as tiny particles falling to Earth maximizes its lethality. A millionth of a gram of plutonium can be a fatal dose. The pathway of greatest concern is the breathing in plutonium particle.
As the NASA Environmental Impact Statement puts it: “Particles smaller than about 5 microns would be transported to and remain in the trachea, bronchi, or deep lung regions.” The plutonium particles “would continuously irradiate lung tissue.”
“A small fraction would be transported over time directly to the blood or to lymph nodes and then to the blood,” it continues. Once plutonium “has entered the blood via ingestion or inhalation, it would circulate and be deposited primarily in the liver and skeletal system.” Also, says the document, some of the plutonium would migrate to the testes or ovaries.
The cost of decontamination of areas affected by the plutonium could be, according to the NASA statement, $267 million for each square mile of farmland, $478 million for each square mile of forests and $1.5 billion for each square mile of “mixed-use urban areas.”
The NASA document lists “secondary social costs associated with the decontamination and mitigation activities” as: “Temporary or longer term relocation of residents; temporary or longer term loss of employment; destruction or quarantine of agricultural products including citrus crops; land use restrictions which could affect real estate values, tourism and recreational activities; restriction or bands on commercial fishing; and public health effects and medical care.”
As to why the use of a plutonium-powered rover on Mars—considering that NASA has successfully used solar-powered rovers on Mars—the NASA Environmental Impact Statement says that a “solar-powered rover…would not be capable of operating over the full range of scientifically desirable landing site latitudes” on this mission.
There’s more to it. For many decades there has been a marriage of nuclear power and space at NASA. The use of nuclear power on space missions has been heavily promoted by the U.S. Department of Energy and its predecessor agency, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and the many DOE (previously AEC) national laboratories including Los Alamos and Oak Ridge. This provides work for these government entities. Also, the manufacturers of nuclear-powered space devices—General Electric was a pioneer in this—have pushed their products. Further, NAS has sought to coordinate its activities with the U.S. military. The military for decades has planned for the deployment of nuclear-powered weapons in space.
Personifying the NASA-military connection now is NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, a former NASA astronaut and Marine Corps major general. Appointed by President Barack Obama, he is a booster of radioisotope thermoelectric generators as well as rockets using nuclear power for propulsion. The U.S. has spent billions of dollars through the years on such rockets but none have ever taken off and the programs have all ended up cancelled largely out of concern about a nuclear-powered rocket blowing up on launch or falling back to Earth.
Accidents have happened in the U.S. space nuclear program. Of the 26 space missions that have used plutonium which are listed in the NASA Environmental Impact Statement for the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, three underwent accident, admits the document.
The worst occurred in 1964 and involved, it notes, the SNAP-9A plutonium system aboard a satellite that failed to achieve orbit and dropped to Earth, disintegrating as it fell. The 2.1 pounds of plutonium fuel dispersed widely over the Earth and Dr. John Gofman, professor of medical physics at the University of California at Berkeley, long linked this accident to an increase in global lung cancer. With the SNAP-9A accident, NASA switched to solar energy on satellites. Now all satellites—and the International Space Station—are solar-powered.
There was a near-miss involving a nuclear disaster and a space shuttle. The ill-fated Challenger’s next mission in 1986 was to loft a plutonium-powered space probe.
The NASA Environmental Impact Statement includes comments from people and organizations some highly critical of a plutonium-powered Mars Science Laboratory Mission.
Leah Karpen of Asheville, North Carolina says: “Every expansion of plutonium research, development and transportation of this deadly material increases the risk of nuclear accident or theft. In addition, plutonium production is expensive and diverts resources from the more important social needs of our society today, and in the future.” She urges NASA “to reconsider the use of nuclear” and go with solar instead.
Jeremy Maxand, executive director of the Idaho-based Snake River Alliance, calls on NASA and the Department of Energy to “take this opportunity to move space exploration in a sustainable direction with regard to power. Using solar rather than nuclear to power the Mars Science Laboratory Mission would keep the U.S. safe, advance energy technologies that are cleaner and more secure, be more fiscally responsible, and set a responsible example to other countries as they make decisions about their energy future.”
Russell Ace Hoffman of Carlsbad, California speaks of “today’s nuclear NASA” and a “closed society of dangerous, closed-minded ‘scientists’ who are hoodwinking the American public and who are guilty of premeditated random murder.” He adds: “The media has a duty to learn the truth rather than parrot NASA’s blanketly-false assertions.”
NASA, in response to the criticisms, repeatedly states in the document: “NASA and the DOE take very seriously the possibility that an action they take could potentially result in harm to humans or the environment. Therefore, both agencies maintain vigorous processes to reduce the potential for such events.”
Involved in challenging the mission is the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space (www.space4peace.org). Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Maine-based organization, says that “NASA sadly appears committed to maintaining their dangerous alliance with the nuclear industry. Both entities view space as a new market for the deadly plutonium fuel.”
Says Gagnon: “The taxpayers are being asked once again to pay for nuclear missions that could endanger the life of all the people on the planet…Have we not learned anything from Chernobyl and Fukushima? We don’t need to be launching nukes into space. It’s not a gamble we can afford to take.”
With the return of Atlantis and end of the shuttle program, there are concerns about this being the “end” of the U.S. space program.
An accident if NASA continues to insist on mixing atomic energy and space—a nuclear disaster overhead—that, indeed, could end the space program..

TRIPOLI, Libya — NATO warplanes bombed three Libyan state TV satellite transmitters in Tripoli overnight, targeting facilities that have been used to incite violence and threaten civilians, the military alliance said Saturday.
A series of loud explosions echoed across the capital before dawn. There was no immediate comment from Libyan officials on what had been hit, but state TV was still on the air in Tripoli as of Saturday morning.
NATO said the airstrikes aimed to degrade Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s “use of satellite television as a means to intimidate the Libyan people and incite acts of violence against them.”
“Striking specifically these critical satellite dishes will reduce the regime’s ability to oppress civilians while [preserving] television broadcast infrastructure that will be needed after the conflict,” the alliance said in a statement posted on its website.
It said Gadhafi’s inflammatory TV broadcasts were intended to mobilize his supporters.
In addition to the three TV transmitters, during the past 24 hours alliance aircraft targeted military vehicles, radars, ammunition dumps, anti-aircraft guns, and command centers near the front lines in the east and west, NATO said in a statement.
The attempt to silence the government’s TV broadcasts comes at a sensitive time for the rebels, who appeared to be in disarray after the mysterious death of their chief military commander. Abdel-Fattah Younis’ body was found Thursday, dumped outside the rebels’ de facto capital of Benghazi, along with the bodies of two colonels who were his top aides. They had been shot and their bodies burned.
NATO too has been increasingly embarrassed by the failure of its bombing campaign, now in its fifth month, to dislodge Gadhafi’s regime. With the fasting month of Ramadan due to start in August, there is growing realization within the alliance that the costly campaign will drag on into the autumn and possibly longer.
NATO originally hoped that a series of quick, sharp strikes would quickly force Gadhafi to give up power. The alliance has carried out about 6,500 strike sorties and a total of 17,000 sorties since March.
Eight NATO members have been participating in air campaign in Libya: the U.S., Britain, France, Belgium, Canada, Norway, Denmark and Italy. They have carried out a total of more than 6,500 strike sorties.
But this coalition has been gradually fraying amid growing public opposition in Europe to the costs of the campaign — estimated at more than 1 billion euros — at a time of budget cuts and other austerity measures.
The United States was the first to limit its participation, deciding to only provide support to the European allies. Then Italy withdrew its only aircraft carrier and part of its air force contingent. Meanwhile, Norway has announced it will pull all of its F-16 warplanes out of the operation by Monday.

Social deficits associated with autism, schizophrenia induced in mice with new technology

Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine have been able to switch on, and then switch off, social-behavior deficits in mice that resemble those seen in people with autism and schizophrenia, thanks to a technology that allows scientists to precisely manipulate nerve activity in the brain. In synchrony with this experimentally induced socially aberrant behavior, the mice exhibited a brain-wave pattern called gamma oscillation that has been associated with autism and schizophrenia in humans, the researchers say. The findings, to be published online in Nature on July 27, lend credence to a hypothesis that has been long floated but hard to test, until now. They mark the first demonstration, the researchers said, that elevating the brain's susceptibility to stimulation can produce social deficits resembling those of autism and schizophrenia, and that then restoring the balance eases those symptoms.
Autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia each affect nearly 1 percent of all people. At present, there are no good drugs for mitigating the social-behavioral deficits of either disorder. While they differ in many ways, each syndrome is extremely complex, involving diverse deficits including social dysfunction. Mice are social animals, and there are many well-established tests of sociability in these animals.
Social behavior can't be ascribed to a single brain region, said Karl Deisseroth, MD, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and of bioengineering and the study's senior author. "To form a coherent pattern of another individual, you need to quickly integrate all kinds of sensations. And that's just the tip of the iceberg," said Deisseroth, a practicing psychiatrist who routinely sees autistic-spectrum patients. "It's all changing, millisecond by millisecond, as both you and the other individual act and react. You have to constantly alter your own predictions about what's coming next. This kind of interaction is immensely more uncertain than, for example, predator/prey activity. It seems that it has to involve the whole brain, not just one or another part of it."
One intriguing hypothesis holds that social dysfunctions characteristic of autism and schizophrenia may stem from an altered balance in the propensity of excitatory versus inhibitory nerve cells in the brain to fire, resulting in an overall hyper-responsiveness to stimulation. Evidence for this hypothesis includes the higher seizure rate among patients with autism, and the fact that many autistic children's brains exhibit elevated levels of a high-frequency brain-wave pattern — known as "gamma oscillation" — that can be picked up by an electroencephalogram. Many schizophrenics also exhibit social deficits as well as higher levels of this anomalous brain-wave pattern, even at rest.
In addition, said Deisseroth, "autistic kids seem to be over-responding to environmental stimuli." For instance, they find eye contact overwhelming, or may cover their ears if there are too many people talking at once.
There has been no direct way to test the "excitation/inhibition-balance" hypothesis, Deisseroth said. It's been impossible to experimentally shift the balance between excitation and inhibition in the brain by selectively raising the firing propensities of one class of nerve cells but not the opposing class, because there have been no drugs or electrophysiological methods that act only on excitatory cells of the brain, or only on inhibitory cells.
But Deisseroth's team has a way of doing that, with a new technology, pioneered in his laboratory and called optogenetics: selectively bioengineering specific types of nerve cells so that they respond to light. These cells can be bioengineered to be either more or less likely — depending on the researchers' intent — to relay an impulse to the next nerve cell in a circuit. So with the flick of a switch, the scientists can activate a nerve circuit in the brain or inhibit it. Nerve cells can also be rendered responsive, in various ways, to different frequencies of light, allowing several circuits to be manipulated at once. (The optogenetic technique cannot be used in humans at this time as it requires still-experimental genetic modifications to brain cells.)
For the experiments in this study, the investigators targeted excitatory and inhibitory nerve cells in the medial prefrontal cortex, the most advanced part of the mouse brain, Deisseroth said. This region is very well-connected to everyplace else in the brain and is involved in processes such as planning, execution, personality and social behavior, he said.
"We didn't want to precisely direct the firing patterns of excitatory or inhibitory cells," Deisseroth said. "We wouldn't know where to start, because we don't know the neural codes of behavior. We just wanted to bias excitability."
Instead, the researchers bioengineered the nerve cells to respond to specific wavelength bands of light by becoming, for extended periods of time, either more or less likely to fire. "Nerve cells have an all-or-nothing tipping point," Deisseroth said. "Up to that point, they won't do much. But at a certain threshold, they fire."
The study's two first co-authors, postdoctoral researcher Ofer Yizhar, PhD, (now at Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel), and Lief Fenno, a graduate student in the medical school's MD/PhD program, devised ways of activating or inhibiting brain circuits by a light pulse for up to a half-hour, variously increasing or decreasing the firing propensity of nerve cells in those circuits. This time period was long enough to let the animals engage in various tests of social behavior.
The researchers subjected the mice they'd bioengineered to standard assays of rodent behavior, and compared the results to outcomes using normal mice.
The experimental mice exhibited no difference from the normal mice in tests of their anxiety levels, their tendency to move around or their curiosity about new objects. But, the team observed, the animals in whose medial prefrontal cortex excitability had been optogenetically stimulated lost virtually all interest in engaging with other mice to whom they were exposed. (The normal mice were much more curious about one another.)
"Boosting their excitatory nerve cells largely abolished their social behavior," Deisseroth said. In addition, these mice's brains showed the same gamma-oscillation pattern that is observed among many autistic and schizophrenic patients. "When you raise the firing likelihood of excitatory cells in the medial prefrontal cortex, you see an increased gamma oscillation right away, just as one would predict it would if this change in the excitatory/inhibitory balance were in fact relevant."
And when the scientists restored that balance by revving up inhibitory nerve-cell firing in the medial prefrontal cortex, they saw a moderate but significant recovery of social function.
"The behavioral results and the correspondence of gamma-oscillation changes to alterations in the animals' excitatory/inhibitory balance suggest that that what we're observing in animals could be relevant to people," said Deisseroth.

China's military is developing electromagnetic pulse weapons that Beijing plans to use against U.S. aircraft carriers in any future conflict over Taiwan, according to an intelligence report made public on Thursday.

EMP weapons mimic the gamma-ray pulse caused by a nuclear blast that knocks out all electronics, including computers and automobiles, over wide areas. The phenomenon was discovered in 1962 after an aboveground nuclear test in the Pacific disabled electronics in Hawaii.
The declassified intelligence report, obtained by the private National Security Archive, provides details on China’s EMP weapons and plans for their use. Annual Pentagon reports on China's military in the past made only passing references to the arms.
“For use against Taiwan, China could detonate at a much lower altitude (30 to 40 kilometers) … to confine the EMP effects to Taiwan and its immediate vicinity and minimize damage to electronics on the mainland,” the report said.

The fact is, our ‘development’ refers to the great revitalization of the Chinese nation, which, of course, is not limited to the land we have now but also includes the whole world. As everybody knows, according to the views propagated by the Western scholars, humanity as a whole originated from one single mother in Africa. Therefore no race can claim racial superiority. However, according to the research conducted by most Chinese scholars, the Chinese are different from other races on earth. We did not originate in Africa. Instead, we originated independently in the land of China. Therefore, we can rightfully assert that we are the product of cultural roots of more than a million years, civilization and progress of more than ten thousand years, an ancient nation of five thousand years, and a single Chinese entity of two thousand years. This is the Chinese nation that calls itself ‘descendants of Yan and Huang.’
During our long history, our people have disseminated throughout the Americas and the regions along the Pacific Rim, and they became Indians in the Americas and the East Asian ethnic groups in the South Pacific. We all know that on account of our national superiority, during the thriving and prosperous Tang Dynasty our civilization was at the peak of the world. We were the centre of the world civilization, and no other civilization in the world was comparable to ours.
Later on, because of our complacency, narrow-mindedness, and the self-enclosure of our own country, we were surpassed by Western civilization, and the centre of the world shifted to the West.
In reviewing history, one may ask: Will the centre of the world civilization shift back to China? Actually, Comrade Liu Huaqing made similar points in early 1980’s Based on an historical analysis, he pointed out that the centre of world civilization is shifting. It shifted from the East to Western Europe and later to the United States; now it is shifting back to the East. Therefore, if we refer to the 19th Century as the British Century and the 20th century as the American Century, then the 21st Century will be the Chinese Century!! Our Chinese people are wiser than the Germans because, fundamentally, our race is superior to theirs. As a result, we have a longer history, more people, and larger land area. On this basis, our ancestors left us with the two most essential heritages, which are atheism and great unity. It was Confucius, the founder of our Chinese culture, who gave us these heritages. These two heritages determined that we have a stronger ability to survive than the West. That is why the Chinese race has been able to prosper for so long. We are destined ‘not to be buried by either heaven or earth’ no matter how severe the natural, man-made, and national disasters. This is our advantage. Take response to war as an example. The reason that the United States remains today is that it has never seen war on its mainland.
Once its enemies aim at the mainland, the enemies would have already reached Washington before its congress finishes debating and authorizes the president to declare war. But for us, we don’t waste time on these trivial things. Maybe you have now come to understand why we recently decided to further promulgate atheism. If we let theology from the West into China and empty us from the inside, if we let all Chinese people listen to God and follow God, who will obediently listen to us and follow us? If the common people don’t believe Comrade Hu Jintao is a qualified leader, begin to question his authority, and want to monitor him, if the religious followers in our society question why we are leading God in churches, can our Party continue to rule China??
The first pressing issue facing us is living space. This is the biggest focus of the revitalization of the Chinese race. In my last speech, I said that the fight over basic living resources (including land and ocean) is the source of the vast majority of wars in history. This may change in the information age, but not fundamentally.
Our per capita resources are much less than those of Germany’s back then. In addition, economic development in the last twenty-plus years had a negative impact, and climates are rapidly changing for the worse. Our resources are in very short supply. The environment is severely polluted, especially that of soil, water, and air.
Not only our ability to sustain and develop our race, but even its survival is gravely threatened, to a degree much greater than faced Germany back then Anybody who has been to Western countries knows that their living space is much better than ours. They have forests alongside the highways, while we hardly have any trees by our streets. Their sky is often blue with white clouds, while our sky is covered with a layer of dark haze. Their tap water is clean enough for drinking, while even our ground water is so polluted that it can’t be drunk without filtering.
They have few people in the streets, and two or three people can occupy a small residential building; in contrast our streets are always crawling with people, and several people have to share one room. Many years ago, there was a book titled Yellow Catastrophes. It said that, due to our following the American style of consumption, our limited resources would no longer support the population and society would collapse once our population reaches 1.3 billion. Now our population has already exceeded this limit, and we are now relying on imports to sustain our nation. It’s not that we haven’t paid attention to this issue. The Ministry of Land Resources is specialized in this issue.
But we must understand that the term ‘living space’ (lebenstraum) is too closely related to Nazi Germany. The reason we don’t want to discuss this too openly is to avoid the West’s association of us with Nazi Germany, which could in turn reinforce the view that China is a threat. Therefore, in our emphasis on He Xin’s new theory, ‘Human Rights are just living rights’ we only talk about ‘living’ but not ‘space’ so as to avoid using the term ‘living space.’ From the perspective of history, the reason that China is faced with the issue of living space is because Western countries have developed ahead of Eastern countries. Western countries established colonies all around the world, therefore giving themselves an advantage on the issue of living space. To solve this problem, we must lead the Chinese people outside of China, so that they can develop outside of China.
Would the United States allow us to go out to gain new living space? First, if the United States is firm in blocking us, it is hard for us to do anything significant to Taiwan and some other countries! Second, even if we could snatch some land from Taiwan, Vietnam, India, or even Japan, how much more living space can we get? Very trivial! Only countries like the United States, Canada and Australia have the vast land to serve our need for mass colonization. Therefore, solving the ‘issue of America’ is the key to solving all other issues.
First, this makes it possible for us to have many people migrate there and even establish another China under the same leadership of the CCP. America was originally discovered by the ancestors of the yellow race, but Columbus gave credit to the White race. We the descendants of the Chinese nation are ENTITLED to the possession of the land!!! It is historical destiny that China and United States will come into unavoidable confrontation on a narrow path and fight. In the long run, the relationship of China and the United States is one of a life-and- death struggle.

This cell tower attack network has been deployed under the cover of "national security," apparently as a means to instantly and covertly disable electronic devices that could be used as weapons by terrorists or hostile forces. The technology requires a continuous radar stream of microwave energy -- meaning that the entire population of the United States is being bathed in microwave emissions every minute of every hour of every day.
Because the system has been built out only in recent years, no entity has studied the long-term health effects of having a stealth cell tower weapon system clustered in populated areas.
Victims of this attack system maintain that silent assaults directed at a targeted individual can cause "induced dementia" -- symptoms that mimic Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive dysfunction, but which can dissipate when and if the attacks cease -- or if the "amplitude" of the microwave frequency is turned down by its clandestine government operatives.
"The idea is to make the 'target' look mentally ill or emotionally unstable, so that the person can be shunted into a mental hospital or otherwise marginalized and removed from society," says one alleged victim, who says that the silent attacks rendered him so weak, disoriented and fatigued that he was unable to work for a period of four years.
This victim says he slowly regained his full cognitive abilities only after repeated visits to a local FBI office, where he pleaded with agents to intervene on his behalf. But he reports that the attacks have continued, causing chronic fatigue, extreme weakness and sharp sudden pain that he says amounts to torture.
He also maintains that his local police chief appears to be aware of the covert attack system, but is powerless to stop the attacks.
"What kept me going when the attacks were most severe, from the summer of 2004 and into 2008, was when I went down to the FBI and literally begged a young FBI agent to help me, and she looked me directly in the eye and said, 'I believe you.'
"When she said that, it gave me the confidence to go public despite my fears that I'd be treated like some kind of a nut case. Now that the truth is getting out, I'm grateful to that young agent for giving me the faith to fight this."
By the pervasive deployment of these weapons systems as a tool of torture and enslavement, the U.S. government is denying thousands of its citizens the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The U.S. government has enabled the "slow kill," torture, or impairment of thousands of its own people while cruelly stripping them of free will -- the very essence of what it is to be human.
This classified weapons system functions in every community in America. Some local police officials know about it. Apparently, they have been sworn to secrecy on "national security" grounds. The mainstream media has its collective head in the sand, buying the government propaganda that a new generation of directed energy weapons is "less lethal" and thus "saves lives."

FOOTNOTE: TARGETING SYSTEMS
This cell tower- based microwave attack system apparently uses various advanced technologies to target human beings. According to information obtained from unclassified patents, defense industry trade journals, as well as an analysis of victim accounts, it appears that a three-dimensional, invisible infrared laser targeting sensor array secreted in or near the victim's home or place of business makes possible precision-triangulated electromagnetic frequency attacks, prolonged or sudden and momentary, to specific body parts -- internal or external.
The literature states that laser targeting systems can be trained on vehicles or moving targets, facilitating precision attacks even if the target is traveling at extremely high rates of speed.

If such a sophisticated targeting device is not available, it appears the microwave attack system is capable of acquiring targeting coordinates from the intended victim's cell phone or GPS unit. In that case, the targeting is believed to be less precise, but still able to produce disorienting and painful attacks, such as prolonged and unremitting headache and induced weakness and fatigue.
Some victims of this stealth technology now use their cell phones and GPS units only when absolutely necessary, and remove the cell phone's battery to prevent the broadcast of their location coordinates. (Just turning off the unit does not suffice, since a cell phone's power can be turned on by remote control.)
If neither a 3D infrared laser targeting device nor a "live" cell phone is available, the system still appears capable of delivering painful, disorienting or even disabling frequencies. It is believed that the government has equipped certain personnel -- either its own agents, or, some victims believe, local law enforcement or civilian vigilantes -- with portable laser-equipped devices that can "paint the target" from a distance. It is possible that some sworn officers may be under the impression that this technology is used merely for "through the wall surveillance," not to attack citizens they are sworn to protect.
The literature also indicates that the microwave weapon system can engage the target by way of tiny RFID tags covertly placed in or on the target's possessions or clothing. These film-thin RFID tags are ubiquitous in everyday commerce, used for inventory tracking of many consumer products. "GPS-linked" video surveillance systems, in public areas or inside commercial establishments, also could be used to transmit targeting coordinates to government command centers.
High-powered military satellites are believed to be capable of detecting ground-based tracking devices from low Earth orbit.
The article linked below, from the web site of the conservative Heritage Foundation, describes a directed energy weapon system that sounds much like the cell tower- based system described here. The article discusses a microwave/laser weapon system capable of both tracking and engaging a speeding target at the speed of light.

Statement of Leuren Moret in relation to the provisional injunction against the Education Committee of Koryama City, Fukushima to evacuate the children from the radioactively contaminated area being filed on June 24, 2011.
I am making this urgent statement in support of a provisional injunction to evacuate children living in and attending schools in areas of Fukushima Prefecture that have been found to have unacceptably high levels of radiation as a result of the ongoing release of dangerous levels of radiation from fission products and reactor fuel released from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was damaged by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and 40 meter tsunami on March 11, 2011.
My expertise:
I am an international specialist on ionizing radiation, an independent scientist and educator, and the first woman to graduate with a BS in Geology from UC Davis, earned a Masters degree in Near Eastern Studies from UC Berkeley, and a PHD in the Geosciences from UC Davis (all but dissertation). I am the recipient of a UC President’s Mentoring Fellowship in the Sciences at UC Davis, and selected as one of the five most promising young scientists at UC Davis. I am the Past President of the Association for Women Geoscientists, an international women’s science organization, and have conducted scientific research and given talks in 50 countries on the effects of radiation on the environment and public health. I collected over 6000 baby teeth with the Radiation and Public Health Project, from children living in the US, UK, and Japan, within 100 miles of nuclear power plants, and we discovered that the radiation levels are higher today because of nuclear power pollution than during atmospheric bomb testing. Between 2000 and 2011, I made 20 speaking tours in Japan on radiation related issues. During a one-month speaking tour of Japan in 2005, Dr. Ernest Sternglass and I met with TEPCO officials, on the first day of operations at Rokkasho nuclear reprocessing plant in Aomori prefecture, to protest the impact on the environment and public health from highly radioactive emissions, releases, and accidents at the facility.
I have written and been interviewed widely on radiation issues in publications such as The Japan Times, the International Herald Tribune, the San Francisco Bay View, and wrote the Foreword to Akira Tashiro’s famous book Discounted Casualties: The Human Cost of Depleted Uranium. I have also been in many radiation related documentaries, appeared on television (NHK, Press TV, Malaysian TV, Istanbul TV, KITV ABC Honolulu), and have many videos with radiation information posted on the Internet.

Effects of radiation exposure from atmospheric bomb tests, Nuclear Power Plants, Chernobyl, and the Fukushima Disaster:
There is overwhelming evidence from vital statistics collected by many countries, of a large rise of chronic illnesses or free radical diseases, following open air testing of nuclear weapons. No country has a better record of vital statistics than Japan that extends back to 1899 and provides a baseline for health statistics before man-made radiation was introduced into the environment.

It is clear from this data that large increases in mortality from brain disease, heart disease, and cancer occurred in Japan with the introduction of each new nuclear technology following World War II. The US government did not allow the Japanese Government to report health statistics for three years following the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in order to hide the horrific effects of ionizing radiation from the public. This important document also shows that the radiation body burden in the Japanese population has been cumulative since 1945, as additional radiation has been introduced into the environment each year, and ingested mainly in drinking water and dairy products.
In utero exposure causes brain damage as well as in Japan, large increases in chronic illnesses in the United States were caused by contamination of the entire continental United States from nuclear bomb test rainout of radioactive nanoparticles, a large decrease by 12% in nationwide SAT scores (Scholastic aptitude tests) occurred in children born after 1945 who were exposed in utero to low levels of ionizing radiation. Dr. Ernest Sternglass was able to show that the decline in SAT scores was directly related to the amount of fission products released each year from bomb tests. The SAT scores never recovered after bomb testing ended because nuclear power plant fission products replaced bomb testing radioactive pollution.
This graph on right illustrates the US average for SAT scores 1952-1994, taken the last year of high school (bottom axis), and year of birth (indicated on curve). The annual average decline in the scores inversely correlates with the total kiloton equivalent of nuke tests conducted at the Nevada Test Site the same year. The lower the SAT score, the more radiation released in that year from bomb testing at the NTS.

Exposure to nuclear pollution causes high rates of mental illness
In 2004 the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published the results of a WHO global mental health survey. Again the results were shocking. The survey found that the US had the highest rate of mental illness in the world; over 26% of Americans have some form of mental illness. The effects of Chinese bomb testing in the Gobi desert were apparent in mental illness rates in Beijing (9.1%) and Japan (8.8%), directly downwind from the annual Gobi dust and sand storms, contaminated with bomb testing fission products. Mexico (12.2%) and Columbia (17.8%) were downwind from bomb tests on Christmas Island and Johnson Island in the Pacific, test sites that were 1000 miles upwind from Hawaii with the highest cancer rates in the US. Belgium (12.0%), France (18.4%), and the Netherlands (14.8%) are contaminated from their own nuclear power plants, or unlucky to be downwind and downstream from other sources. Lebanon (16.9%) was heavily contaminated by French nuclear tests in the Sahara desert, and from depleted uranium used in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan. The Ukraine (20.4%) is testimony to the tragic effects of Chernobyl in 1986. The population with the best mental health in the WHO survey was Nigeria, far from the bomb tests, and that's not all. Africa has the lowest diabetes rates in the world. There are almost no nuclear power plants in Africa.

Major cause of diabetes is ionizing radiation
Because uranium is a hormone and estrogen disruptor, it is one of the main causes of diabetes globally since 1945. All atomic and hydrogen bombs were composed of thousands of times more depleted uranium than the plutonium in the bomb core, making it the main atmospheric nuclear pollutant since 1945. The very large increase in diabetes beginning in 1991, with the introduction of US depleted uranium (DU) weaponry to the battlefield in GW I, is reflected in the global statistics and indicative of how pernicious and global the DU poisoning really is. It has been reported globally that the largest number of new cases of diabetes are diagnosed when the annual rainy seasons begin indicating that the cause of diabetes is in the atmosphere.
Large increases in autism increased dramatically with introduction of nuclear power
Dr. Ernest Sternglass was able to compare the number of kilowatt-hours of electricity generated in California per year to the increase in autism incidence in California, and found that there was a direct causal relationship. The occurrence of autism is not diagnosed until the child is about five years old, so the time of diagnosis of large increases of autism was offset by about 5 years from the year of birth that indicated the brain damage was caused by in utero exposure of the fetus to ionizing radiation, even exposure to very low amounts. In recent studies, the incidence of autism in Washington, Oregon, and California has been linked to the presence of nuclear reactors and rainfall patterns. The largest number of new cases of autism is diagnosed when the annual rainy season starts, indicating that the cause is rainout of radioactive nanoparticles into the environment. In the United States the cost of treating an autistic child is very expensive.
Direct medical and nonmedical costs can add up to as much as $72,000 a year for someone with an extreme case of the disorder, and even $67,000 a year for those on the lower end of the spectrum, according to a study from the Harvard School of Public Health. Infant mortality and childhood cancer rates drop when nuclear power plants are shut down
In our studies of diseases in children and babies living near nuclear power plants, by the Radiation and Public Health Project, we found a decrease of 54.1% in infant mortality after the closing of the Big Rock Point reactor in Michigan, and a 33.4% decline when the Maine Yankee reactor was shut down in Maine. After the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant was shut down in Sacramento, California, a decline in newly diagnosed leukemia and cancer cases and birth defect deaths in children under five years old in the four counties around the Rancho Seco plant continued to decline for seven years after the plant was closed in 1989. Dr. Sternglass said “We found to our amazement and shock that the levels of strontium 90 per gram of calcium in the teeth of new born babies… is as high as it was at the height of nuclear bomb testing.” The ONLY source today for Strontium 90 is nuclear power plants. Since the baby teeth form in the unborn child, the baby teeth serve as a dosimeter of in utero exposure to radiation. In the baby teeth I collected in Japan in 2005, the highest levels of Strontium 90 were in two Japanese babies born in Washington DC where dairy products are very high in radiation from dairies located near nuclear power plants. The rest of the baby teeth ranged from high to very low levels of Strontium 90, indicating that Diabetes death rates in Japan 1950-2004. This graph represents the global cumulative radiation effects, in death rates from diabetes, caused by atmospheric testing (1950-1963), nuclear power plants introduced in 1968, and depleted uranium introduced by the U.S. in GW I in 1991.

Chernobyl rainout of radiation causes breast cancer clusters in Japan and California
Dr. Shuntaro Hida was able to map breast cancer clusters across Japan after the Chernobyl plume passed over Japan on its way across the Pacific. By investigating weather patterns in Japan for that day, he was able to show that they occurred in areas where it rained that day. A similar pattern was reported north of San Francisco, in Marin County, California, and across California as the radioactive plume travelled east from the Bay Area and crossed over the mountains into Nevada. An ornithologist in Marin County, Dr. Dave De Sante, also reported high death rates in nesting birds that month, and the death rates were higher in birds that ate vegetable matter than in birds that ate insects. A further investigation of the areas in Japan and the US where the breast cancer clusters occurred, should identify increases in infant mortality, children’s cancer, diabetes and autism as well as other radiation related diseases. FUKUSHIMA RADIATION EFFECTS THOUSANDS OF MILES ACROSS THE OCEAN
The west coast of North America is thousands of miles across the vast Pacific Ocean, a long way from Fukushima Daiichi and the radioactive solids, liquids, and gases being released daily and recklessly to poison both near and far. Already we are seeing the effects in North America.
Air filters from cars in Seattle have been analyzed for hot particles and indicate that Seattle residents are inhaling 5 hot particles a day, in Tokyo it is 10 hot particles a day, in Fukushima Prefecture it is 30-40 times higher - 300-400 hot particles a day.
Hot particles and alpha emitters such as Uranium and Plutonium have not even been mentioned by the government or TEPCO, nor has their contribution to total radiation released been considered. Alpha particles are biologically 20 times more damaging than beta particles.
Iodine 131 in drinking water in San Francisco was reported by UC Berkeley to be 18,100% times higher than the EPA drinking water standard, yet the US government quit measuring it.
Infant mortality in Berkeley, and other west coast cities was reported by Dr. Janette Sherman to have increased 35% since March 11, after the Fukushima disaster. The babies are the first to die.
Infant mortality in Philadelphia, where the highest Iodine 131 levels in drinking water measured in the US have been reported, has increased 45% since March 11.
People on the west coast of the United States and even in Arizona are reporting a metallic taste in their mouths – an indication of radioactive particles in the air as in Japan.
On the night of June 14, a nuclear incident occurred in the Reactor 3 building in the spent fuel pool when huge bursts of gamma ray fluorescence lit up the night sky and turned the reactor building as bright as the sun, indicating the spent fuel rods and melted uranium and plutonium were boiling off, vaporized along with the rest of the fission products.
The radiation from this unreported but very dangerous event was released without protecting the residents of Fukushima Prefecture – especially the children. But the radiation was detected at elevated levels from 2:30 AM until 7:30 AM on a monitor in Ibaraki Prefecture. How many Curies were released? When will this nuclear war against the Japanese people and the Northern Hemisphere ever end?
Instead of evacuation, the government gives the children (sick with radiation symptoms) film badges to measure the external exposure dose… another study group like US govt. studies on Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims (they are still being studied), Iraq victims, Gaza victims. And the US government did the same thing to Americans during 1300 nuclear bomb tests in the US.

Full Spectrum Decay … America is not the home of the free….
The Pentagon has a policy which can only be called the zenith of militaristic arrogance and stupidity: “Full Spectrum Dominance”.
As the name implies, the policy’s aim is for the United States’ military to control all aspects of a battlefield—or as proponents of the doctrine call it, the “battlespace”: Air, land, sea, space and cyberspace.
The doctrine’s concept, in its essence, is for the American military to be “better” than anyone else at everything else: The most carrier groups, the biggest nuclear subs, the latest military technology, etc., etc., etc., all of these pieces fitting together to overwhelm—and not merely defeat—any enemy or any threat, be they real or unlikely, or even imaginary. (For the American military’s hunt for imaginary threats, look up Iraqi WMD.)
Of course, a child can realize that “full spectrum dominance” is essentially brawns over brains: The only way you can achieve it is by sacrificing ingenuity, imagination, flexibility and common sense at the altar of Bigness.
The other obvious flaw of “full spectrum dominance” (such a creepily S&M-sounding phrase, redolent of nasty sex-clubs in lower Manhattan) is by throwing money at the “battlespace”—endless amounts of money. Neverending amounts of money. And nevermind where the money for this is coming from.
Having a military that mindlessly embarks on a “full spectrum dominance” doctine is the surest route to bankruptcy. It also sidesteps the key issue:
What is this awesome—literally “awe-inspiring”—military supposed to be protecting?
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting a rich and shining country?
The United States Federal government has a total debt of over 100% of the nation’s GDP, and is consistently running deficits of over 11% year after year—unsustainable levels of debt.
There are huge swathes of America where the cities are rusting rotting hulks: Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland. The are contests judging the best pictures of this decay.
There are places in America—a truly shocking amount—where asphalt roads are being torn up, and replaced with gravel—because it’s cheaper to maintain.
According to the Federal government’s own figures, 44.7 million Americans depend on Food Stamps.
So much for protecting a rich and shining country.
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting a healthy, strong people?
Americans are the most obese people on earth—literally. Estimates put the number of obese and seriously overweight pre-pubescent children at 40%—forty percent of children are obese!—while among adults, it’s close to 60%.
8.3% of Americans have diabetes—a rate four times the rest of the world, a gap ascribed mostly to Americans having poor diets, and being ignorant of healthier habits.
According to the Pentagon, 35% of Americans aged 17 to 24 are unfit to serve in the military because of medical or health-related issues, primarily obesity.
20 million prescriptions for antidepressants were written in 2009, the last year with complete data.
So much for a healthy, strong people.
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting an educated, creative people?
According to the Education Department, 15% of the adult U.S. population cannot read.
23% of applicants to the military cannot pass its entrance exam.
‘Nuff said.
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting a cherished political system?
As anyone with even a casual knowledge of American politics can attest, the degree of corruption in the system is unprecedented.
When I wrote about how former Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff went to shill for the company responsible for the full body scanners at airports, nobody was particularly surprised: The revolving door between government and private corporations spins faster than a jet engine
(BTW, my Chertoff piece got me assigned my very own Homeland Security agent. Not a very capable DHS agent, I might add: He posed as a fan—but then made a trivial blunder that made me realize who he really was. But I can’t help but admit: It’s flattering to have my very own DHS agent monitoring me. Outrageous, despicable, and disgusting, sure: But flattering too. After all, it’s what every writer wants: To write things that scare power.)
The American political establishment goes on and on about democracy, human rights, dignity, self-determination, blah-blah-blah—but then goes and orders the torturing of patently innocent people, the crushing of democratic aspirations around the world, all so as to protect their corporate masters.
It’s no secret that the American political establishment is the best political establishment that corporate money could buy—and it serves those corporate interests well. Why, even the Supreme Court licks the corporate boot that kicks it in line.
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting the sacred rights of the people?
What rights? The people in America have no rights.
If FDR’s Four Freedoms is the template for rights and freedoms—freedom from fear, freedom from want, freedom of worship and freedom of speech—then Americans have none of them.
Freedom from fear? Every American knows to fear the police, as well as any member of governmental authority: You can be targeted by the police for merely watching them give out a speeding ticket—or as in my case, targeted for writing about public information critical of a former government official.
And if you are fool enough to carry out your moral duty and blow the whistle on government malfeasance—like Bradley Manning did—you get a windowless cell effectively forever, with no possibility of redress, no possibility of seeing your family or friends, no possibility of seeing your lawyer, no possibility even of a trial: Just locked away indefinitely.
Freedom from want? Ask those 45 million people on Food Stamps.
Freedom of worship? Ask Muslim Americans how they’re doing.
Freedom of Speech? Right: Notice how there’s no news coming out of the flooded Fort Calhoun nuclear plant just outside of Omaha, Nebraska. According to foreign news sources, it’s because the Obama Administration has declared a news blackout
So much for protecting “the freest country on earth”.
• Is this awe-inspiring military supposed to be protecting the opportunities of the people?
What opportunities?
Ask a 53-year old laid-off worker—white-collar or blue—what opportunities he has to look forward to, as he stares at the yawning chasm between 53 and 65, when he can start collecting his Social Security check.
Ask a recent college grad from a respectable but third-tier university, saddled with $100,000 in debt—a debt that cannot be rescinded even in the case of personal bankruptcy. Ask her what opportunities she has to look forward to, as she looks and looks for a job, finally finding one—miracle of miracles!—at minimum wage as a data processor. (Mind-numbing, yes—but hey, at least she might be able to save enough to afford to move out of Mom and Dad's house to a place of her own.)

Currently, the American military’s budget is $700 billion a year—not including the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. This is more than the entire military budgets of all other countries on earth combined. The total costs of the so-called Global War on Terror—including the off-books costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions and occupations—come to some $5,700,000,000,000, according to some credible research ($5.7 trillion, if you are confused by all the zeros). That amount is equivalent to the gross domestic product of China.
A great deal of this massive expenditure is for weapons that serve no purpose, and strategies and doctrines that have been superceded by a changed reality.
To take a single example: An intercontinental ballistic missile submarine costs several billion dollars—yet it serves no purpose now that the Cold War is over and the likelihood of an overwhelming surprise nuclear attack from either China or Russia is literally non-existent. Yet those great white elephants of the sea still slink around, for no discernible purpose except pride.
Pride is what is sinking America. Pride—arrogance—vanity—hubris—conceit: Call it what you will, it’s still the same thing.
Arrogance, strictly defined, is “an exagerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities”.
In the peculiar American reality we are living in, the leadership of this country is guilty of the most colossal arrogance—no question.
But the people of America—us—are guilty of a strange sort of arrogance as well: It is not the arrogance of the sort that exagerates our own sense of self-importance or abilities.
Rather, it is the arrogance that exagerates our own sense of self-worth—and from this exagerated sense of self-worth, demands exagerated protection.
Hence we timidly strap on helmets, elbow pads and knee pads when we ride a bicycle to the corner store—terrified we might fall and scrape our precious fat bodies—while we listen to news of American soldiers torturing and killing innocent foreigners without batting an eyelid.
Hence we meekly surrender our dignity and civil rights in the face of any governmental officer, any representative of Authority.
Hence we demand more and more “protection from an unsafe world”, without ever realizing that—insofar as the rest of the world is concerned—we are the danger, we are the threat.
We as a people are so frightened of not merely death but of any sort of damage to our person or property—no matter how minor or trivial—that we have allowed our country to rot and decay, while expecting—demanding—that our military and security apparatus protect us from absolutely everything and anything, no matter how trivial, unlikely, or outright imaginary.
This is how we have achieved Full Spectrum Decay: In our arrogant conceit that we must be protected from anything and everything, we have surrendered all the things that mattered about America. The massive defense and security apparatus we have built to achieve Full Spectrum Dominance indeed does its job:

A Brief History of Khazars in the 'Goldene Medin'
"The Khazars - or Ashkenazis (Hebrew for German) how they call themselves today - are actually the descendants of ethnic Turk tribes that entered Europe as part of Attila's hordes and their local Germanic rape victims. Years ago Benjamin Freedman said, "They rule America as monarchs". "They" are the reason Sharon could boast, "We control America and they know it." But most Americans do not know it. Just who are "they" and where did "they" come from? That is the purpose of this article -- revealing the Khazars.
Americans should know Khazars secretly dominate every aspect of American life. They have infiltrated the upper levels of American government, industry, banking, finance, commerce, mass media, communications, real estate, merchandising, arts, education, sports, professional associations etc. This is not by chance or merit but by design, a careful preference in selection over many, many decades. "We have taken hold of the ends of the springs which move their mechanism. We have got our hands into the administration of the law, into the conduct of elections, into the press, into liberty of the person, but principally into education and training as being the cornerstones of a free existence." Khazars are a race that originated in the Black Sea area and migrated into Eastern Europe in the Dark Ages to an area called Khazaria. It was there that in the 700's A.D., after a long war they were conquered by Islam and later adopted Judaism as their official religion. Around 1000 A.D. they migrated into Spain, were very prosperous but ousted after a century or two and went to Portugal. After a century or so they were ousted again and went to the Netherlands. The Netherlands prospered for about a century and the Khazars spread across Europe and then America. They were never in the Biblical Lands.
"Khazars" and "Jews" are not synonymous. Judaism is a religion going back to antiquity, earlier even than the beginnings of civilization. Its members have largely remained in the Middle East. Its scripture is the Old Testament of the Bible. By comparison, Khazars are recent cultural Jews. Their scripture is the Protocols to the Elders of Zion, the evil bible of modern Zionism which calls for a different global polity, a ruthless dictatorship. Its opening sentence reads, "It must be noted that men with bad instincts are more in number than the good." Thus in political matters, this race should be called Khazars not Jews.
Many Jews have been victims of the Khazars and many disavow Zionism. Nevertheless, the vast majority of Jews in Europe and America are Khazars and vice versa. Having no religious beliefs including an after life, Khazars focus entirely on worldly acquisitions especially money. "It is indispensable for us to undermine all faith, and to put in its place material needs." They are largely an urban people located in cities; nature and natural resources are for privatization and profit. They are virulently anti-Catholic since the Church is their principal organized opposition, "The Russian autocracy, the one and only serious foe we had in the world, without counting the Papacy."
Khazars are the heart of Zionism, supported by millions of Christians who commonly depend on them, one way or another, "The need for daily bread forces them to keep silence and be our humble servants." Khazars also call themselves Ashkenazi to separate themselves from their "lesser brethren", Sepphardim or Middle Eastern Jews. Historically, Khazars when they entered a society always gathered in their own ghettos with their own governments and became "black holes" of wealth by their predatory commercial and lending practices. Although they intermarried with other races, they did not assimilate.
The founders of America knew them well: Washington called them "the greatest enemy" to the new nation; Franklin called them "vampires"; Jefferson, "false citizens"; Madison, "money changers" and Jackson, "Ye breed of vipers". At the time there were few in America. In the late 19th century, Khazars came to America by the millions as a result of Russian pogroms after an assassination.[1] This continued into the 20th century so that by the time of World War I there were about 3 million in America. They doubled their numbers in America during the 1930's and 1990's so that today of their world population of about 14 million (the same as pre-Holocaust(?)), over 6 million are in America or about 2% of the American population and control a majority of the nation's wealth. By contrast African-Americans number nearly 40 million and control little of the nation's wealth. Khazar-Americans came here with the wealth and financing amassed over millenia while African-Americans came here via the Khazar slave trade and were kept impoverished and uneducated for 300 years (the black goldene medin).
So, in about two hundred years, Khazars have become the richest and most powerful and influential minority in America, the most bountiful nation on earth. This is precisely what Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison and Jackson feared. The brilliant Franklin said, "If they are let into the country, in two hundred years our children will be working in their fields while they sit in their counting-houses, rubbing their hands." What extraordinary foresight! But let's step back aways.
Around 1595 Amsterdam Khazars founded the Bank of England through William Patterson and began the Khazar banking of today, fiat money at interest, income taxes to pay the interest, fractional reserves and immense debt to finance war and governmental expenses instead of taxation. English national debt soared tenfold. "An exceedingly burdensome debit has been created and all the wealth of States flowed into our cash-boxes."
Then around 1770 arose Mayer Amschel Rothschild, a colossus in the history of banking and finance. Rothschild was already rich in his late twenties from banking. He then solicited and became agent for Prince William IX of Hanau , one of the richest men in Europe, becoming vastly richer. One story is that Rothschild brokered the recruitment of 12,000 German soldiers (Hessians) for use by England in the American Revolution. Their pay disappeared; 7,000 were killed and the remaining 5,000 were abandoned in America where their descendants can be found today.
Rothschild organized the bankers and financiers of Europe into his preferred enterprise, an invisible monopoly. "Capital must be free to establish a monopoly of industry and trade: this is already being put in execution." They financed (and fomented) wars because it filled their "treasuries" and opened the doors to government. They made vast loans to governments which provided them with an endless stream of interest. "These loans burdened the finances of the States with the payment of interest and made them the bond slaves of our bankers." Their goal was to take control of all the money in the world and subjugate all mankind, the modern Zionist agenda described in the Protocols. "Nature herself has destined us to guide and rule the world." And after two centuries they have succeeded (remember Franklin's prediction).
The Khazar global bankers rule the world under the Khazar/Jewish Dynasty, the Rothschilds. Rothschild is quoted, "Let me control the issuance of a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws." This is the key. Control of all the money and credit in the world, all untaxed. "A tax on capitalists diminishes the growth of wealth in private hands in which we have concentrated it." It is "an aristocracy of money" involving super rich Khazars, the Khazar global bankers, their Federal Reserve and other central banks and their Protocols. "We shall establish huge monopolies, reservoirs of colossal riches, upon which even large fortunes will depend."

After the American Constitution became law, unifying American money, the Rothschild agent, Alexander Hamilton, in 1791 persuaded Washington to approve Rothschild's Bank of the United States, the forerunner of the Federal Reserve, which took control of American money and Khazar-American wealth burgeoned. The Bank charter lapsed in 1836 but Khazar banking was now well established in America. It financed for Rothschild the Robber Barons (Rockefeller, Morgan, Carnegie, Harriman). Earlier, Rothschild had taken over the Bank of England as well as the Bank of France. He founded the Rothschild Dynasty and sent his five sons to the capitals of Europe to manage the financial affairs of the Dynasty. Then followed for the rest of the century all the wars and chaos described in the Protocols, bankrupting Europe.

Early in the 20th century, Khazar-Americans like Warburg, Brandeis, Untermeyer, Baruch and Meyer through their "panama" Wilson brought US the Federal Reserve, World War I, income taxes, and the popular election of senators; Morganthau and Baruch through FDR brought US World War II with Eisenhower and Clark leading the Allies, and Rothschild's "panama" Johnson and Nixon with Kissinger brought US the Vietnam War. During World War I, three Khazar-Americans commanded the American war effort: Baruch over all industry, Warburg over all banking and Meyer over all war financing and added sedition laws (like today's Hate Laws) to stifle complaints of their immense frauds like The Duplication of War Bonds (one for Khazar-Americans and one for government). Today the reins of our secret government are held by the likes of Wolfowitz, Pearl, Feith, Zacheim, Chertoff, Greenspan, Abrams, Bolton, Kristol, Kagan and on and on. They have many rich tax exempt foundations, factions and organizations supporting them. They have installed yet another "panama" in the White House and directed "the guns of America" at the Muslim world and oversee a gigantic fleecing of the American taxpayer in favor of Israel and Zionism. "We replaced the ruler by a caricature, a president, taken from the midst of our puppet creatures, our slaves, a puppet in our hands."
Over the course of the 20th century, the most powerful industrial nation on earth; built by plentiful resources, ample farmland, temperate climate, cheap immigrant labor and unscathed by foreign war, has been utterly bankrupted by the Khazar bankers. "Economic crises have been produced by us by no other means than the withdrawal of money from circulation." The greatest industrial nation in history has been liquidated, tens of millions of jobs lost, and the proceeds used for financial speculations around the world guaranteed by the Federal Reserve. "To complete the ruin of industry we shall bring speculation and transfer into our hands all the money of the world." The American people haven't a clue of the colossal tax free wealth in the tens of trillions the Khazars have amassed by defrauding them and their government especially in wartime yet the American people are beginning to wake up, noting that now Khazars seem to "own everything in America". The Federal Reserve is responsible for immense bubbles in the financial markets, housing and money supply and finances the Middle East wars that many predict will produce a "train-wreck" of the American economy and standard of living, "an economic crisis, which will stop dealings on the exchanges and bring industry to a standstill. Disorders and bankruptcy will be universal." The states should plan to issue their own script as in the colonial days, "on the day after the political smash" of Washington.

But we are never allowed to "get over" German National Socialism, the Holocaust(?) and anti-semitism. "They have lost the habit of thinking. These hands will lead opinion in the direction of our aims."
And, as boasted in the Protocols, the Khazar bankers are completely invisible. "Who will ever suspect that all these peoples were stage-managed by us according to a political plan which no one has so much as guessed at in the course of many centuries?" Any reference to them is sneeringly disposed of as "conspiracy theory" or "anti-semitism". "Anti- Semitism is indispensable for the management of our lesser brethren. This has formed the subject of repeated discussions amongst us." In reality, guided by Rothschild's Protocols, Zionism is the greatest conspiracy in history, a group of supremely organized and dedicated, even fanatical, people who by their control of the world's money have access to unlimited credit and money for their global political and economic purposes. World Leaders Flock To Afghanistan After Mysterious ‘Time Well’ Discovered

A peculiar report prepared for Prime Minister Putin by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) circulating in the Kremlin today states that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has become the latest in a growing line of Western leaders to make a ‘surprise’ visit to Afghanistan this month and follows visits by United States President Obama (December 3rd), British Prime Minister David Cameron (December 7th) and French President Nicolas Sarkozy (December 8th).
Only Sarkozy’s trip, this report says, was concealed as he was already in India on a state visit when ‘rushed’ by a US Military aircraft to the Afghan war zone.
What caused the sudden rush of these most powerful leaders of the Western World to go to Afghanistan, this report continues, was to directly view the discovery by US Military scientists of what is described as a “Vimāna” entrapped in a “Time Well” that has already caused the “disappearance” of at least 8 American Soldiers trying to remove it from the cave it has been hidden in for the past estimated 5,000 years.
From the ancient accounts found in the Sanskrit epic The Mahabharata, we know that a Vimāna [photo bottom left] measured twelve cubits in circumference, with four strong wheels. Apart from its 'blazing missiles', The Mahabharata records the use of its other deadly weapons that operated via a circular 'reflector'. When switched on, it produced a 'shaft of light' which, when focused on any target, immediately 'consumed it with its power'.
To the “Time Well” encasing the Vimāna, this report continues, it appears to be an electromagnetic radiation-gravity field first postulated by Albert Einstein as the Unified Field Theory and long rumored to be behind the infamous American World War II experiment in teleportation called the Philadelphia Experiment that in 1943, like the events occurring in Afghanistan today, likewise, caused the sudden “disappearance” of US Soldiers.
The seemingly “perpetual” power source to this mysterious “Time Well”, this SVR report says, appears to be based on the technology of Edward Leedskalnin, who claimed to have discovered the “Secret Knowledge of the Ancients” and from 1923-1951 “single-handedly and secretly” carved over 1,100 tons of coral rock by an unknown process that created one of the World's most mysterious accomplishments known as the Coral Castle.
Most intriguing of all about this report is its stating that not just any Vimāna has been discovered, but from the ancient writings contained in the cave where it was discovered, it claims that its “rightful owner” is the ancient prophet Zoroaster [pictured top left] who was the founder of arguably one of the most important religions of all time called Zoroastrianism.
Though little known to the World today, the religious philosophy of Zoroaster is credited with being the basis of all known religions that said the purpose of humankind, like that of all other creation, is to sustain aša [truth]. He further stated that for humankind, this occurs through active participation in life and the exercise of constructive thoughts, words and deeds.
Pliny the Elder, the first Century Roman author, naturalist, and natural philosopher, as well as naval and army commander of the early Roman Empire, further names Zoroaster as the “inventor of magic”, a claim historians say was based on the over “two million lines” written about Zoroaster contained in the Ancient Royal Library of Alexandria that was ordered destroyed by the Christian Roman Emperor Theodosius I in 391 AD.
Important to note is that for the new Christian religion to grow, all of the elements relating to its true beginnings with Zoroaster had to be destroyed, and as we can read from the 440 AD notation about this destruction written in the ancient Historia Ecclesiastica, and which says:
“At the solicitation of Theophilus, Bishop of Alexandria, the emperor issued an order at this time for the demolition of the heathen temples in that city; commanding also that it should be put in execution under the direction of Theophilus. Seizing this opportunity, Theophilus exerted himself to the utmost to expose the pagan mysteries to contempt. And to begin with, he caused the Mithreum to be cleaned out, and exhibited to public view the tokens of its bloody mysteries. Then he destroyed the Serapeum, and the bloody rites of the Mithreum he publicly caricatured; the Serapeum also he showed full of extravagant superstitions, and he had the phalli of Priapus carried through the midst of the forum. ... Thus this disturbance having been terminated, the governor of Alexandria, and the commander-in-chief of the troops in Egypt, assisted Theophilus in demolishing the heathen temples.”
The largest resurgence of Zoroaster “magic” among human beings, since the destruction of the Ancient Royal Library of Alexandria, occurred in the 13th Century among the Cathers who lived in Southern Europe. Sadly, however, when the “power” of Zoroaster “magic” began to reappear in the World once again, the threat to Christianity was undeniable and prompted Pope Innocent III (1161-1216) to order the largest massacre in Europe not duplicated until the horrors of World War II.
To how brutal the Cathers were suppressed by Catholic Rome we can read from the history of those times:

The doors of the church of St Mary Magdalene were broken down and the refugees dragged out and slaughtered. Reportedly, 7,000 people died there. Elsewhere in the town many more thousands were mutilated and killed. Prisoners were blinded, dragged behind horses, and used for target practice.
What remained of the city was razed by fire. Arnaud wrote to Pope Innocent III, “Today your Holiness, twenty thousand heretics were put to the sword, regardless of rank, age, or sex”. The permanent population of Béziers at that time was then probably no more than 5,000, but local refugees seeking shelter within the city walls could conceivably have increased the number to 20,000.”
Today, in the ancient Afghanistan city of Balkh, where Zoroaster is said to have lived and died, and claimed by Marco Polo to be one of the World’s “noble and great cities”, a new Global Empire, the United States, holds both our past and our future in its hands with the discovery of this ancient Vimāna.
To if the Western leaders who have seen this ancient wonder will allow it to be known it is not in our knowing. What is in our knowing, though, is that if the past is truly an indicator of the future, the words soon to flow from Christendom will echo those of times past…. “Kill Them All, The Lord Will Recognize His Own”.

Las Conchas Fire Woke Us Up—Let Us Now Stop The Plutonium Bomb Factory

The Las Conchas Fire in New Mexico is still burning. It is rapidly growing by the day. On June 29, I did a phone interview with Jay Coghlan, executive director of Nuclear Watch New Mexico and his colleague Scott Kovac; and sit down conversation with Marian Naranjo, a prominent native American elder and activist from the Santa Clara Pueblo and Joni Arends, executive director of Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety. As you’ll see, the Las Conchas Fire has woken us up. It is time we learn from this deadly fire and stop a proposed plutonium bomb factory at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). I’ll tell you how your voice is crucial in this matter, but first here is an update on the fire that is also burning Santa Clara Pueblo lands.
Las Conchas Fire Update
On the morning of June 28, when I posted my first piece on the subject, the Las Conchas Fire had burned about 50,000 acres. As of yesterday 10:30pm it has burned 93,678 acres, 322 acres shy of being the largest fire in New Mexico history—by the time this piece is posted it’ll be the largest. Mother Nature is in a frenzied state right now and breaking record after record on wildfires across states. Last month Arizona broke their record with the Wallow Fire.
If you’re not right underneath the smoke it is difficult to get a sense of the scale of a large fire. NASA’s Aqua satellite flew over the area on June 28. Following day NASA released a photo of smoke over land that you can check out here. Last year smoke over Moscow made international headlines. Siberia was ablaze also and NASA released a fascinating image of smoke over Siberia and the adjacent Arctic Seas, also taken by the Aqua satellite that you can check out here. According to NASA the fires over central Russia, Siberia and Canada during summer 2010 created an enormous poisonous ring around the northern hemisphere. Unfortunately it didn’t get coverage in the US press and media. Nevertheless very large fires send a lot of toxic pollutants into the air that are hazardous to human health.
The wind has spread the Las Conchas Fire generally in a north–south direction. If the fire had expanded east toward the Area G, where 20,000 drums (each 55 gallons) of plutonium contaminated waste are sitting on the surface inside fabric tents, air in our region probably would have been nuked by now, but that is not the case, so far.
We do not know what ecological and human health impact the Las Conchas Fire will leave behind, but since the fire started we’ve been very concerned about what’s in Area G and is there any possibility that the fire could reach there? In a June 27 article, when asked by an AP writer a LANL spokesperson “declined to confirm that there were any such drums now on the property.” In a June 30 AP article, asked by the same writer another LANL spokesperson said that there are 10,000 drums stored there. Why didn’t the government tell us the truth, the first time? And, are we still getting the truth—10,000 is not same as 20,000, but who is counting?
Joni Arends told me, “After the Dome Fire of 1996, we asked for hardened onsite storage for these drums. They did nothing. Then after the devastating Cerro Grande Fire of 2000 that burned 47,000 acres including 5,000 acres inside LANL, we pressed for it again. They laughed at us and told us that by the time they get the permit to build the hardened storage, all the drums will be offsite. Here we are 11 years later, 20,000 drums containing plutonium contaminated waste are still sitting stacked three high inside fabric tents between a super volcano—Valles Caldera to the west and the Rio Grande River, our main water source to the east, on an active seismic zone, in a forested wildfire habitat.”
Jay Coghland walked me through a June 29 Google Earth image with overlay of the fire that you can check out here. He specifically pointed to the western edge of the lab, which is heavily forested. He showed me several red squares, which means there was fire activity in the last 0–6 hours in those areas. This is known as Tech Area 16 adjacent to Hwy 501 where there is a large Tritium Facility. Jay said, “this is a micro location which is pretty heavily contaminated with heavy explosives residues that would release dioxin and other toxins in the air that cause cancer.” He also shared his worry about the northwest corner of the lab, Tech Area 3, which he said has the densest concentration of lab facilities and employees. This area was also burning heavily.
I wanted to learn from him other radioactive contaminated areas in and around LANL. He told me the story of the acid canyon. “During the WWII days, the lab used to dump radioactive fluid literally over the edge of a canyon on the north side of the lab. This area later came to be known as acid canyon,” he said. “It is not threatened by the fire so far.”
Joni Arends told me, “The lab has acknowledged that there are only 1,000 toxic dump sites at Los Alamos, including a PCB dump where the levels are 38,000 times normal. The story that comes from the lab is not true.” She urged me to read Glenn Walp’s book, Implosion at Los Alamos: How Crime, Corruption, and Cover–Ups Jeopardize America’s Nuclear Weapons Secrets.
Marian Naranjo shared with me their spiritual beliefs about the land they inhabit, “The Pajarito Plateau on which Los Alamos National Lab was built is a sacred place to the native pueblo people since time immemorial. Look at the Bandelier National Monument, our ancestors lived there, but right now it is threatened by this fire. There are 19 fingers in the Pajarito Plateau that you call canyons. Those are sacred to us. That is where the springs are. Fire is sacred to us, as it replenishes life. Cloud is sacred to us, as we wait for rain. Rain is sacred to us, as it keeps everything alive in the desert. But after Los Alamos was built, our spiritual belief system has been shattered. Now when we look up at the sky and see cloud, we wonder, is there radioactive elements in the cloud? When we get rain, we wonder, could it bring poison to our communities. We’re afraid of our own rain. You talk about Area G as if it is an inanimate place, but all those plutonium–contaminated drums are sitting on one of our largest sacred Kiva’s. The lab is destroying our spiritual belief system.”
The government is heavily monitoring the air in the area for toxic pollutants. They’re using dozens of monitors on the ground as well as a specially outfitted twin–engine plane with sensors that came from the Environmental Protection Agency. As of June 29, “top lab officials and fire managers say there have been no releases of toxins.” Let us hope we’re getting the full truth.
Marian Naranjo told me, “you cannot see radioactive elements in the air, you cannot smell it, you cannot taste it, and just because it cannot be detected with technical toys, doesn’t mean its not there. After the Cerro Grande Fire the government told us that no radioactive element was released in the air. We never had leukemia in our children, now we do, in Santa Clara and the San Ildefonso Pueblos.”
Santa Clara Pueblo Land Is Ablaze
“Santa Clara is on fire now,” Marian’s voice was filled with pain, “it reached our reservation line yesterday. The smoke was so bad at Santa Clara that they had to distribute masks to our community members. I cried. All that water, all that effort, all that building of fire lines are for protecting the lab. Who is protecting our community? Are they letting the tribe burn? It doesn’t feel very good to be on the short end of the stick. Fire has also reached the Cochiti Pueblo on the south. This is a very deep environmental justice issue.”
By June 30 the Las Conchas Fire had burned 6,000 acres of the watershed of the Santa Clara Pueblo. It is continuing to destroy cultural sites, forest resources, plants and animals that the people of Santa Clara depend upon for their livelihood and culture.
On June 30 the Santa Clara Pueblo Governor Walter Dasheno issued a Declaration of Emergency. “We are devastated to witness the destruction of our precious homeland,” said Governor Dasheno. “From time immemorial to this day our community has been stewards of this land, have fought to regain portions taken from us and have invested millions of dollars in restoring the forest and resources.”
The fire exploded across the western third of the reservation, including P’opii Khanu, the headwaters of the creek, which the Pueblo regained in 2000 after 140 years of struggle. “Our canyon is the source of our Santa Clara Creek that we rely upon for irrigation but, more than that, it was a beautiful place of abundance in wildlife, clean water, culturally significant trees and medicinal plants,” said Governor Dasheno.
Pueblo officials have urged Senator Tom Udall and Congressman Ben Ray Lujan, in helping to stop the progression of the fire. They’ve also stressed that financial and technical assistance will be needed over the next several years to address the fire’s impact.
“This is the fourth fire that has impacted our homelands and all of them have begun outside our reservation. Santa Clara alone cannot bear the extreme costs to help Mother Nature restore herself,” said Governor Dasheno.
Massive Plutonium Bomb Factory Proposed at Los Alamos National Lab
Los Alamos National Lab is proposing to build a massive plutonium bomb factory. Here is a short description of the project based on my conversations with Jay Coghland, Joni Arends, Marian Naranjo and Scott Kovac, and from various hand–outs Nuclear Watch New Mexico and Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety had prepared for community meetings and hearings that happened earlier this year to oppose this plan.
In 2003, the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) completed an Environmental Impact Statement for its proposed Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) project at the Los Alamos National Lab. The acronym CMRR hides the simple fact that it is a plutonium facility for expanded nuclear weapons production.
An 185,000 square–feet Radiological Laboratory, Utility and Office Building was completed in September 2009 costing nearly 1/2 billion dollars, including equipment. But this facility will not handle large quantities of special nuclear materials, like plutonium. For that purpose CMRR’s final phase would be the proposed Nuclear Facility. If built, this complex will quadruple LANL’s plutonium production from 20 pits per year to 80 pits per year. All of this will be used in making bombs to blow up places, people and animals, if such opportunities do arise.
Jay told me that the original EIS did not take into account the seismic risk that is now known. That coupled with the fact that there is a proposed 50% increase in size, citizen pressure mounted and finally NNSA prepared a hurried Supplemental EIS (SEIS), which was released on April 22.
Scott Kovac explained to me the seismic risks. In a 2007 site–wide seismic report LANL issued a warning that there was not enough information on the seismic properties of the reference rock. There is not enough information to determine seismic safety of the old buildings and the new proposed facility.
The draft SEIS has two geologic options: deep and shallow alternatives, for constructing the proposed Nuclear Facility. In the shallow alternative they would build a 17 ft thick slab on an existing weak layer of ash. The building would float in a raft–like fashion over soft, volcanic ash that forms a weak geologic layer. “Starting at about 50 ft all the way down to about 75 ft below the surface there is an extremely fragile ash layer,” Scott said. The scoping for the draft SEIS was completed by November 2010. Then April 2011 LANL released a memo that describes why the soft option is not safe to prevent the proposed building from collapse into the underlying layer: compression of the layer of soft volcanic ash by the heavy building; seismic shaking from an earthquake; and liquefaction of the volcanic ash because of water leaks. Scott also talked about the deep alternative that would involve digging out the entire soft layer and then pour concrete and build on top of that but it is a much more expensive option. “The government has not done enough seismic analysis, they do not know if there is no fault line at the proposed site. They’re designing it with an earthquake of maximum 7 Richter scale. They do not know what would happen if an earthquake of larger magnitude hits. They need to do more research and find all the faults,” Scott said.
I asked Jay, did the government in their draft SEIS took into account the latest knowledge about climate change in the American West. Then I realized they could not have as the draft SEIS was completed in November 2010 and some of the most important findings about climate change have come out after that.
On December 13, 2010 online issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the University of Arizona scientists published a major study that concludes that the American West maybe entering a prolonged 60–year drought. “The CMRR project would require 16 million gallons of water each year for its operation,” Jay told me. I asked him where do they intend to take this water from, to which he responded, “from the San Juan River and from underground wells.” In simple terms it means that the lab would take precious water away from human and animal communities in a severely drought stricken region to build nuclear bombs to blow up the planet.
Now, add wildfires to that equation. In a climate changed drought stricken American West the forests are dying too, the fires are getting larger, burning hotter and coming more frequently. Right now as I write this, in addition to the devastating Las Conchas Fire, in New Mexico, we also have the Pacheco Fire in the north that has burned more than 10,000 acres since June 18; the Donaldson Fire in southeast that started around 9 am on June 28 and has already burned 72,650 acres; and the devastating Wallow Fire of Arizona that since May 29 has burned 538,049 acres including 15,407 acres in southwestern New Mexico. Fires are everywhere in our state right now, and, we’re also planning to build nuclear bombs to blow up the planet.
July 4th is approaching—fire is on the minds of many New Mexicans. We may begin to think about how we celebrate July 4th in a climate changed American West—not with fireworks that might ignite more fires of the larger kind, but by coming together to repair our communities.
The CMRR project would cost taxpayers an estimated $6 billion.
Jay said, “We need to begin questioning whether expanded nuclear weapons production at Los Alamos is feasible in a possibly long–term drought and climate warming punctuated with catastrophic forest fires. More broadly, as we face increasing budget and resource constraints, we need to decide whether our money and water go into expanded nuclear weapons production, or do they go into repairing schools and infrastructure for the common good of society?”
Joni and Marian suggested an alternate use of that $6 billion: Jobs that would go to 12,000 individuals including from the distressed communities like Santa Clara, Cochiti and others; $50K a year for each individual for ten years—for forest restoration, watershed restoration and management, replenish our communities, and give people back their humanity. Sounded like an excellent plan to me, but instead, we’re planning to use that money to build nuclear bombs to blow up the planet.
“In 2008 we passed the Santa Clara Pueblo Tribal Resolution No. 08–16 in which the Pueblo opposes the expansion of plutonium pit production. This was in response to the Complex Transformation Supplemental Programmatic Environment Impact Statement. Along with the one–page resolution we also included 22–page comments from 256 community members, and some of which were included in congressional record. Joni and I went to Washington, DC and told them that the Santa Clara Pueblo is serious,” Marian told me. “Here we are in 2011, and they are still ignoring our comments and our beliefs. They’re arrogant and disrespectful. Its addiction, they need to go into rehab. It is heartbreaking that they disregard the sacred nature of our land. They want to make Los Alamos a permanent and perpetual nuclear bomb factory. Maybe we’re talking about genocide of pueblo people.”
What Can People Do?
I asked Jay the simple question, “what can I as an individual do right now?” He suggested, “submit your comments to oppose the CMRR Nuclear Facility project.” He explained that even though the deadline for public comment submissions was June 28, no one at the lab has been reading comments anyway, because the lab is closed due to the Las Conchas Fire. So we can assert force majeure and submit our comments. He stressed that we must submit our comments today by email at NEPALASO@doeal.gov.
Joni told me that Rick Wayman of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation in Santa Barbara is having to photocopy 4,500 comments that were submitted electronically through the Department of Energy website, but it bounced. So he is planning to mail the hard copies.
“People are apathetic, they need to engage right now at this crucial time and do what they can including writing letters to the editor, calling and emailing their members of congress. Most importantly the New Mexico congressional delegation must be pressured to stop this plan to make New Mexico a permanent nuclear bomb production state,” Jay said.
It’s not about stopping everything, everywhere, but also to imagine a different and more sustainable and just future for all life on earth. There exists a brighter future for New Mexico, one that is powered by the sun and the wind—not by nuclear, coal, oil and gas that our Governor Susana Martinez would like to continue to keep us locked in. The New Energy Economy, a Santa Fe based small non–profit organization has already imagined such a bright future and are fighting right now very effectively.
Why is the government pushing the CMRR Nuclear Facility project in such a hurried manner? The supplemental EIS must be retracted and the public comment period must be extended. The Las Conchas Fire has woken us up. We must now stop the maniacal plan to build the plutonium bomb factory at Los Alamos.
