so heres an interesting question... when the human body is forced to switch its waking hours, it goes all wonkey for a while and you get all sleepy when your awake and stuff... what about a newly embraced kinderd who previously had slept at night?

This is a hard one. The shift can be slow or fast. Take me, while no one know it that are close (vampire and other wise) I can feel a slow change over. Have for a long time, I am at the point that I get up early and can stay up most of the night, but I must still sleep some at night. Though the ability means I need a good amount of good rest every now and then to catch up. Though it does also tend to bug my family.


So be there, some times it will take a while to adjust. That is the way it goes, though if they adjust fast then try and help them do it in there mind. By being there if they have problems. Though if they adjust slowly it does make it easier.

For me it was quick. The past two years I sleep only a few hours at a time, and I can stay up most of the night, though I do take naps during the day

Wow, I have not heard the term "Kindred" since the series Kindred: The Embraced, from WhiteWolf back in the 90's.

Since you are talking about the RP vamps of old, and the classical movie vamps, I would think that the turn would not make one exhausted during night to day. Since the change would make said "kindred" act on instinct, and sleep and wake without remembering to do so. Of course, they may sleep a bit later than expected, but as this is a human function and not immortal behavior, I would not think so.

Well depends honestly. Hard to really say for sure. Could take a bit to adjust, but then again it could just happen very fast.

Just like getting used to time change when the clocks are changed back or forth

when the shift happens to fast it can make a person feel sick

It was hard at first ,,,,, now it's all just normal to me .

I have to agree with Soulshroude on this one as it would no longer be a human function and therefore the same rules would not apply. I think it would be more annimalistic in its nature.

It truly depends on the individual. My switch came pretty easily because I was close to a nightowl anyway.

actually "Kindred: The Embraced" was based on (and not very well mind you" the LARP game "Vampire:The Masquerade" , which yes, is a White Wolf game... it still exists and i am actually a player, i am the lesser harpy of the domain of Fargo, and the wife to the malkavian primogen, both in character and soon out as well... when i say its not based very well, the series was missing clans, the toreadors acted like they were both torys and malks both, as well as other clans not acting the way they should (actually the only clan that DID act the way it is meant to was the ventrue, but then they had too high of humanity) as well as EVERYONE having the eat food merit, and EVERYONE had protean... etc...actually we have a player in Fargo who has been playing her character for over 10 years now... if shes not the longest played giovanni in the game, world wide, shes pretty damn close, it actually wouldnt surprise me if shes the longest playing player or character period!... so anyway, i guess im just used to calling vampires kindred, i did not specifically mean the vamps of old, i meant vampires in general...

The question seemed to be based off the LARPer (Live Action Role Player) from the WhiteWolf genre. I am very well aware of WhiteWolf's attributes, as well as the Masquerade. When I stated the thought about Kindred: The Embraced, I was merely relating in general.

Which is why the answer I gave was in that degree.

Now, if we were talking about the differant kinds of vampires, from the classical movie vampire, to the VN living vampire, these are two entirely differant answers.

And why would people consider being awake at night and sleeping during the day be considered vampire/kindred/insert noun here?

As so many threads have pointed out, vampires do not necessarily sleep during the day, can handle the sun to different degrees..well I can go on but won't.

Being nocturnal just makes you nocturnal, not necessarily anything else.

Is anybody else as lost as I am on this thread ?

I'm not sure if we're discussing LARP, board games, TV shows, or reality vs fiction here.

to me it would be like anything ..you eventually adjust to the change and differences that you encounter so .. who is to say everyone is different.

I think it would be the same as the humans switch between.

This is just opinion here, but there is no such thing as being embraced. One either is or is not a vampire.One may be latent and be awakened later in life, but I believe there is no switching of any kind. Most of these folks had these traits to begin with. They were always there, embracing concept is just pc game stuff.

you know, honestly, it's hard to say what a now dead person would do and if they would still take on very human attributes.

I honestly dont like changes they change not only how i feel after i wake up but sumtimes it effects my entire mood.

changes in sleep patterns only effect some people because of their inablitiy to sleep during the day. some people become sleep deprived.

The embraced vampire, in most accounts, will fall into a deep sleep lasting for days sometimes. When they awaken they are fully turned and their metabolism is altered. This accounts for the increased visual acuity, the extra physical strength, and the nocturnal lifestyle.

You would think that there be an udjustment period

I'm a little confused on this....a real vampire I'm pretty sure has no problems sleeping at certain parts of the day so they wouldn't need to change any sleeping habits ...the sun doesn't kill them....why would they need to sleep during the day?..........a fictional vampire isn't real obviously as it is fictional and can be dictated by the person telling the fictional story...so depending on what story you want to look at decides the answer to this question on a fictional level.

Who needs sleep? Overated...Vampire or human.

If your dead you do not need sleep. Only stay out of the sun or get toasted. Besides who needs much sleep.

I am already on the "night shift" so I know it takes sometime to adjust as a mortal... but as the undead I dont think it would be a problem.

Every boss or manager I ahve ever had loved me for the fact I could and still can switch at random to any sort of sleep schedule to include being up for days. It is when I would actualy sleep I had problems, lol. I can never seem to hold a normal schedule because if I am kept up too late I stay awake and I reset as to say and am up all day again, and if the same thing keeps me up, like being online, stress, playing or what ever... opps I am up for another 24 hours.

The transition really isn't that bad it just takes time as mostly everything else does. If you tend to change fast you will only end up with transient insomnia and that sucks trust has happened before. If the change is steady and slow youwill adjust just fine.

it's similar to being jetlagged.. shouldn't take more than one cycle to get re-acclimated, I'm sure.

I did have balanced my dark as well as light with very hard work otherwise few days i was plump in awakening and was hung to space from where I could not move. I became that time the part of entire universal space and I could feel everything my conscious was grasping it all but could not move my hands towards my toys I mean my objects or targets.

Now I am balanced myself into demon and human both are min and i can mutilate my inner to anykind of these kinships.
