When we do Magick around the moon cycles What type of moon would you pick to do a Good luck spell ? Waining moon, Blood moon or the moon it self. The moon has alot of effects to magick. This is what I am understanding Can any one tell me What Kind of affects the moon h as with it?
Depends on your path as to which season to use for good luck and also your perspective on life … ie the blood moon before the winter when we slaughter the animals we cant keep fed through the winter is great for us as lots of meat to eat and mighty crappie for animals for sure.
Best rule of thumb dark moon to light for positive and light to dark moon for neg … not that we have such extremes in real magic … but this formula is good for everyday types
the moon itself in order to have all aspect of its elements and force
The full moon is the best
because her effect is at it`s best then.
Also the prihelium is great!Usually when the moon is closer to the Earth it`s bigger so you would recognize it easyer.
The Black Moon could help sometimes too.
Generally speaking if you want to increase things or make them grow, use a waxing moon. If you want to decrease things or cut them off, use a waning moon. Or so I've heard ;)
I'm not sure which moon phase is the best, but I'm sure it's very effectual to ones magic....I don't have experience in this department...
The moon has been at the center of the earth since creation and the effect of the moon on people has been written down the centuries by poets and authors alike :)
Exactly what is it about the moon that affects magick?
From what I have always understood it is firstly the full moon and a close second the new moon.
To be honest I prefer full new moons to perform rituals, good luck spells, money spells, etc. I find the moon's energy during a full moon to be stronger and I have better outcomes.
While the phases of the moon do provide some effect on magic, it also depends on the diety being called upon. Some deities are tied to specific phases.
Well for good luck spells I use the Full Moon as it is at its strongest for such spells. Alot depends on your own energy as well so it can ary from one to another...sometimes you just have to practice it and try all phases out to see which one you feel may work for you...
Moon phases have different energy and it depends on your pantheon as to which phase is best for working. Generally the Horned Moon is best to start a working, as the energy is increasing. The full moon is best for working with high energy spells. The dark of the moon is best for working with darker energy, and is as powerful as the full moon proportionally. The full moon eclipse is sometimes called the Blood Moon, and because these are rare, working at this time will have long term effects.
A lot of the effects from the moon have nothing to do with magic... but science.
I have to disagree. I think (believe) science and magick are just two sides to the same coin. There is so much one could explain about the other and vis versa.
MY ~FIRST~ POST IS GONNA BE ABOUT MY FAVOURITE SUBGECT . . YAY!!
WELL, TO MY KNOWLEDGE A GOOD LUCK SPELL SHOULD BE DONE ON A WAXING MOON.. FOR BETTER RESULTS THREE DAYS REPEATEDLY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY!
BUT NOTICE THAT IF WHAT YOU WANT TO BE SUCCED IS TO GET FREE OF STH SPECIFIC THAT CAUSES YOU BAD LUCK, THEN YOU SHOULD DO IT ON A SATURDAY WANING MOON..
ALSO, AN IDEAL MOMENT FOR RITUALS IS THE BLUE MOON, MEANING THE SECOND FULLMOON IN THE SAME MONTH. THAT HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR.
ANOTHER THING YOU SHOULD CHOOSE IS THE RIGHT HOUR OF THE DAY (OR NIGHT) YOU CHOOSE.
Not just what moon phase but specificly the effect/affect desired is a factor to be considered, for example good luck for you and good luck for others can be done best at different times. Good luck with money or good luck with love, yeah they are both good luck stuff but their main aspect are love and money which are led by potentialy different stages of the moon than the good luck part.
as we all know the lunar cycles effect the tides of the oceans our own bodys being 70 % + some of H2O the moon surely effects how we act ...and that being said also works with magick being stronger or weaker at differant times in the lunar cycle.
I would definitely go with the waxing moon, or the full moon if you would like to increase prosperity or your luck. Now, if you want to banish bad luck, or heal your luck in some way, probably go with the waning moon or dark moon. It does depend on the tradition. You can also tie it in with the days of the week, if it corresponds with the proper moon phase. Thursday would be a good day, being ruled by Jupiter, which brings about good luck and success.
moon does effect magic it can also affect the caster so it has to be taken into concideration.
i think the moon gives difernet efects depending on the type of moon
Looking at the 2007 calander...I only found one new moon that landed on a Monday. Interestingly enough...that Monday happened to be during the week that I was in Hawaii.
A NEW MOON ON MONDAY IS LUCKY!!!!!!
Duran Duran knew this fact.
They lit their torch & waited for it ;-)
hmm..when it's a really huge full moon I feel the effects, and it actually somehow (coincidently??) affected my menstruation cycle as well...This also seemingly happened to my mom and sister too, and we don't even live in the same house...So..I know the moon also affects the tides..So who knows. Umm....eclipsed moons seem really cool, but don't last so long LOL. I just feel the full the fullest moons, to be more affective on me personally. I dunno. :) maybe it's affecting the current of my cerebral fluid surrounding my brain...like it affects the tidle waves?? haha.
full moon is usually the best to perform during but it would depend actually on your own preference as to what would work best for you , such as when you feel strongest and most energetic about what your doing
Full Moon I think is more magicial and maybe used to make good magic spells, as it wans the spells get uglier..
It depends on your belives. It is a matter of feeling.
Harvest moon (blood moon, hunters moon) is said to be pretty powerful in Norse mythology. It apears on the northen hemisphere (everything north of Ecuador) on the 23rd of September, approximately.
if u are unsure of how to use magic, do not attempt.. if u want a good luck spell, try eating ginger
I am not sure, but from what I have read the best time to perform any spell is after midnight during a full moon.
The moon goes through astrological cycles. Like, right now, it's in Libra, an air sign. You can pick up a book to see when it's in different signs and live life around that. I do. Cut hair when it's in Virgo, things like that. Farmers almanac keeps track of that too. They have forever!
Each of us works in a different way. Perhaps it is best that you try the different phases of the moon to find out which ones works best for you. For myself its better to do spells and such on the full moon, new moon, and blood moon depending on the type of spell that is being used.
Good luck in your search.
I've always been told a full moon is best because that's when it's the most powerful
I have hear the blood moon has sinster and and full power to cast a spell
It's pretty wild how people take this big dirt ball in the sky to be some kind of "magical enhancer" . I wonder if aliens do the same about Earth. o.O
TigerLillith -
Aliens might - if the Earth were a satellite body to their planet and reflective of the Sun's light.
I had posted a link to the Kolisko Effect in another thread. Apparently, Kolisko also investigated the claim that plants grew better when the seeds were sewn during the waxing of the moon.
The only logical assumption I can make from that, is that the plants were gently coaxed out of their shells. As the moon grows stronger, the light and gravitational pull increases, providing the plants with proper nutrition at the just the right times. Rather than being blasted with a full moon energy when they're too young to process it.
This could be applied to magical practices. You may wish to nurture the spell, or what have you, through the waxing, then actually project it during the full moon.
very good info, and the moon cycles do tend to get to me at some times more then others
The Full Moon and Dark Moon are the best times to work spells. One can also consecrate tools and cleanse objects under moonlight and in between Full Moons.
The Blue Moon or the time where there is a second Full Moon in the same month is a good time for making long term goals and reflecting on one's past.
full moon is nice but makes other people mad i know it dose this to my friend
I think a new moon because Its the beginning of a new cycle and that would symbolize new beginnings.
The waxing moon, from my own readings and knowledge, I know is a time for new beginnings so this to me would present the kind of moon with which to practice a good luck spell. A waning moon is another possibility as I know it is the time for removing negativity, so it too seems ideal.
I do believe.. that the new moon and the full moon will be the time for a good luck spell...
i think its a good time to do a love spell seeing is how i have more energy during one.
Hello!:)) to bring things to you ;the full moon or during the waning phase ,naturally the new moon and waxing phase would do the opposit ,peace and love Sachamoon.
I can't tell you I'm just learning about this myself I'm in training so to speak I started out wanting to be more of a wiccan rather then a witch I wanted to use herbs as medicine and such but I preformed a spell a few nights ago and I had an weird feeling a good one but weird one :] I did a spell alowing me to obtain insperation and eversince I've been comming up with many ideas things that I really have never thought about.
I wonder if thats personal gain? I wonder if there will be strings attached to this wish I have made...
Well supposedly for magic to be cast out into the universe, for witchcraft and such, it needs to be a full moon. I know they say that all the "weird" things happen on the full moon.
Yes in deed it is important to know which phase of the moon your in when performing each spells, for each has its own intention with each phase here is a brief descroption of the main ones :
Depending on your spell, you should aim to cast it in harmony with the cycles of the moon to achieve the most effective results. Below are the phases of the moon, what they mean, and what sort of spells are good to do during each phase.
New Moon - The new moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle, and means that the moon is completely in line with the sun and the earth. We see a dark sky with no visible moon. It's a time of newness and rejuvenation. The new moon is the three days after the new face of the moon and also includes the day of the new face of the moon.
Spells: New beginnings of any sort, beauty, health, personal improvement or new employment.
Waxing Moon - The waxing moon is the period of time between the new moon and the full moon. Every night, the moon gets a little larger. Any spellwork that requires growth should be done now.
Spells: Courage, motivation, inspiration, friendship, elemental magick, healing or luck.
Full Moon - This is a time when the Moon is at its most powerful, and the magic most potent. Performing any positive spell at this time will achieve good results. Since the full moon only truly occurs for one night out of the entire lunar cycle, it can be hard to fit it into your schedule. You can harness the energy of the full moon for about 2 days before or after the night the moon is truly full.
Spells: Artistic projects, love, romance, fertility, psychic abilities or making decisions. Also healing, guidance, and completion spells.
Waning Moon - The moon is waning as it gets smaller again, after the full moon. As the moon seems to disappear in the sky, use this time to do spellwork to remove things from your life. The waning moon is a good time for the casting out of the old ways, banishing old habits, smoking, eating habits, the removal of troubles and worries.
Spells: Banishing bad habits, addictions, or ending relationships
Typically, there is one full moon every month, but since the lunar cycle is a bit shorter than our calendar months, there is sometimes two. The second full moon in any given month is called a blue moon.
I want to mention the Dark Moon here, also called "The Dark of the Moon" because I find it very interesting personally. Many witches do not bother themselves with the dark moon or are not aware of the meaning of it. Below is a description of the dark moon.
Dark of the Moon - The Dark of the Moon (or Dark Moon) is traditionally the last three days of the Lunar cycle, immediately preceding the New Moon, and the time when the night sky is notably absent the presence of the Moon. George [1] notes that: “The earliest peoples understood that the power of life lay in the darkness of the moon.” “The purpose of the dark phase of any cycle is that of transition between the death of the old and the birth of the new. The dark time is a time of retreat, of healing, and of dreaming of the future.” i.e. the fallow times preceding outbursts of creativity and growth.
“Most of us do not realize we all have many dark phase times in our lives, and that these are naturally occurring periods in any life cycle. We fail to understand that endings are the precursors to new beginnings; thus when our life rhythms move us into and through these dark phases, we are ignorant of what is actually happening.” [1] It is the grandeur of Death and Rebirth, not merely an ending with the proverbial ride off into the sunset.
“The dark phase of the cyclical process is a phase of healing and renewal rather than one of fear and unknowing; a time of mystery, wisdom, and healing power -- all gifts of the Dark Moon Goddess.” [1]
“There is less energy available for outer activities and meeting the expectations of others, because the purpose of the dark phase is for focusing on the inner dimensions of our bodies and minds. If we can learn to attune ourselves to the natural rhythms of ebb and flow in our lives, we can use the intrinsic function of the dark times for healing and renewal. When we resist this inward motion in our psyche, then anxiety, stress, and fear are more likely to take hold of our emotions.” [1]
“The Triple Moon Goddess, in her new, full, and dark phases, was a model for the feminine nature in her entirety as maiden, mother, and crone. In her original worship the Dark Goddess, as the third aspect of this lunar trilogy, was honored, loved, and accepted for her wisdom and for her mystery teachings of renewal.” [1]
Spells: Healing, renewal, psychic spells. A good time to meditate on the inner self.

Also each fullmoon has a different name for each month :
January - Wolf Moon
February - Storm Moon
March - Chaste Moon
April - Seed Moon
May - Hare Moon
June - Dyad Moon
July - Mead Moon
August - Corn Moon
September - Harvest Moon
October - Blood Moon
November - Snow Moon
December - Cold Moon
I feel it depends on the person doing it and what effects they want from the magick / spells. I myself use the full moon for anything I do except a select few things that do not need alot of strength for it to work. I just feel full moon is best for a strong energy and power for any spell to be worth doing...
This is the link to a page a friend sent me on some certain areas that are best dealt with in which moon cycle.
http://www.everythingunderthemoon.net/moon-phases.htm
Well, I've only done some basic spells, but they've all been done during the full moon. And no, that wasn't on purpose, not consciously anyway. I had that fact pointed out to me a couple weeks ago and was a little surprised. Maybe it was meant to be.
i do a lot of my spells around the time off a full moon to me it gaves me more power and adds more power to the spell im sending out but all work in deffrt ways and deffrt moons gave deffrinet power to people
I use mine 2-12 days after full moon< different times day or dates. But very nice post LadrDarkRayne.
New Moon
New moon, new beginnings. Calling in new ideas, abilities, blessing new projects, "planting seeds". A very good time also for wishes and desires. If you are looking for a new love, now is the time to cast the spell.
Waxing Moon
This is a powerful and steadily strengthening time and best to lend extra strength to endeavours and spells that are already under way. Love spells which strenghthen what is already there are very powerful under a waxing (growing) moon. Also spells for enhancing prosperity, luck, and existing abilities.
Full Moon
Full moon magic power, for major rituals of all kinds, including healing and manifestation. Perfect for group work, as well as working with groups as the full moon "binds all". Full moon is also a good time to bless and charge objects, crystals, water, instruments and ingredients with extra moon power.
Waning Moon
The waning moon lends strength to spells and rituals which seek to remove, reduce or take away. Banishing and binding spells are good during the waning moon. Use the waning moon to remove negativity, stale energies, intruders and to put things into their right places and perspective.
Dark Moon
The dark moon is the perfect time for magic of the self, including communicating with spirits, finding goals, meditation on life purpose, and personal recovery. The dark moon illuminates the present, past and future in a particular way, making it easier to perceive great patterns and wisdom.
i feel the effects when we have a blood moon it does feel magical to me.
if you do a spell that was pre-made, it should already have what moon phase you should do. I have spells like that in my journal.
-I believe for good luck you should do a full moon. or anything that brings goodness into the life.
-For bad spells, do the new moon.
-For spells to make things increase (like money doubling spells) do that on the waxing moon, because it symbolizes increase.
-And finally, the waning moon, during this phase, it's best to do spells to lose things, such as weight, because it symbolizes loss.
I'm not sure which fazes of the moon do what but I do know that the moon has an effect on all, weather for magik or the average person.
I hear you there. My mom says everybody acts crazy on full moons.
The monn's phases have a lot to do with the potency of the spell but so does the moon's place in astrology. The waxing moon would be most efficient for gaining luck but be careful which astrological sign the moon is in to make sure it doesn't backfire on you. I hope this helped!
Blessings~

I was always under the impression that it was believed that the moon's cycles could affect a human population because the moon's gravity would effectively apply an outside gravitational force to the humans' brains, thus causing crazed feelings and the like. During a full moon, too.
Many believe that the moon has potential effects such as sanity a lot of people associate the moon with sexual drives in men and women. Just like the fazes of the tide in our oceans so are the cycles of human nature in accordance with astrological phenomena. But there is so much in the world we can not understand.
yes, the moon is supposed to affect everyone depending on the phase
Most spells I have read require a full moon for them to work.
full or new moon are very common, it is seldom that you do a spell or ritual on either of the other 6 moon phases, but does happen
