We have all seen them and experienced weird coincidences. What do you think about things like this?
Taken from the Post report..
Some pretty amazing things have happened at Belmont Park. This famous track is where Secretariat clinched the Triple Crown in 1973 with one of the most memorable feats in sports history.
Secretariat was a miracle in himself, but another tiny miracle happened at the track in the little town of Elmont, N.Y., on Sunday. The first three winners of the day were the 9 horse, the 1 horse, and the 1 horse.
That's right: On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the first three winners were 9-1-1. Jockey David Cohen rode the first two winners, Say Toba Sandy and Wishful Tomcat. Then Simon P. Husbands rode Haya's Boy to victory in the third race.
Was it a coincidence? Call it what you want. But this didn't happen at any racetrack. This happened at New York City's home for horse racing -- at a landmark that served as one of the staging areas for emergency vehicles and personnel in the days following 9/11.
And the races were held only a few minutes after a special ceremony to commemorate the sad anniversary:
The $2 Pick 3 paid $18.60, but anyone with that priceless ticket will probably want to hold onto it forever.
Personally, I don't think that's anything out of the ordinary. It's like saying there's something mystical in having an emergency and having to call 911 on Sept. the 11th.
Before Sept. 11, 2001, how many other things happened on that date? If not for the tragedy, this wouldn't have made the paper.
Is it coincidence that they started construction on the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 1941?
I agree that we tend not to notice these things unless something else has happened to make it significant and bring it to light. But even so,its always a little weird when it does happen.
Its weird Ill agree. But theres nothing extraordinary about it at all. It just happened that way.
I agree.
You can look into anything in history and find some sort of pattern. You can drive yourself batty over it. Sooner or later you're going to find something like this.
Anyone remember that jim carrey movie? its the same idea. no matter what, you can find a pattern if you look hard enough.
And everyone will see into as they will.
And humans DO have a propensity to look for patterns in almost everything.
Yup i agree. i think its our need to find a way to control everything. We find it hard to accept -or handle- anything being out of our understanding or control.
So we give order to chaos and randomness by finding patterns to explain everything.
Although it may be a fluke, I tend to be kind of supersticious. It may be randon, or it may be some kind of sign. I do agree that we tend to find patterns and oddities. It's the way our mind works. I would undoubtedly be one of the eones who kept the ticket withiout cashing it in.
The dates for anything else may not matter as much when they happen at the same day as a tragedy. However, I think it wasn't so random when the planes hit on 9/11. People take years of planning (Or months) to pull something like that off. It's a shame but it happens. I find it sad that some people believed the war started that day. It started years before it. People just don't read recent history and blow everything off.
You're right Stranger, the Jihad HAD started years earlier.
My sister, who has been in the NSA for years used to tell me that...and this was 20 years ago.At the time,I had not even heard of it,and no one I knew had either.I sure know what she was talking about now though.
I even wondered if the jockeys might have had something to do with it,but having first hand experience in racing, and knowing about half those guys personally,Im not so sure .
Ironic.
I just find it odd because there were stereotypical movies based on events like that before it had happened somewhere around the 90's. The fact that it happened is the sad part if people had a bit of knowledge of it.
Cool story about the horses. Stuff like that reminds me of how people compare Lincoln to Kennedy. :P
Thats what it reminded me of too Stranger. And the 20 dollar bill thing..the computer font wingding thing...
Come on Oceanne, you know its called chaos theory.
Humans developed a natural sense to look for these patterns over 40 million years (our ancestors the Lemas)
An interesting pattern developing around the ring of fire, South ameiricaa (Chile) twice...N.Zealand 4 times....Japan 4 times...Alaska once...Fiji twice...
Guess who is NEXT ! USA.
A perfect example of our minds ability to find patterns...

Agreed Master Severus, a simple version but to the point.
Two better examples...I warned Jersey Shore 10 days before the event and told a member here on Vr. Now Guatemala is under siege. San Fran looks rather vulnerable, don't you think?
Best sleep in a sturdy bed with water a hammer and a satellite phone me thinkst. We will see.

Oh, wow. That is a very interesting observation. I would definately believe that was not just a coincidence. Something about that story just screams serendipitous signs of hope.
I had two friends accidentally pick the same lotto numbers, and didn't know it. They each won $500. They're in two different cities near me.
Or what about when you use a phrase you havent used in years, then it comes up seconds later on tv or the radio or somethig..
Or what about when you use a phrase you havent used in years, then it comes up seconds later on tv or the radio or somethig..
Oh yes that happens to me, it also happens with people when I talk to and I tell them that I use the same phrase too.
I don't believe in coincidences, I believe in synchronicity, however, I also think people are semi-programmed to find patterns in things. Especially when one thing is brought to their attention, suddenly they see it everywhere, just like Jim Carey's '23'. Two babies in opposite geographical coordinates are born at the same time and end up getting named the same thing. Is it coincidence? Not at all. Lots of things are bound to end up being the same or similar and it doesn't mean anything. Like meeting someone with the same birthday as you. Lots of people were born that day, you were bound to meet one eventually. Not only do I think people are born semi-programmed to see patterns, but I think we are also born semi-programmed to see deeper meaning in something where there is none.
For example, my great grandmother (who died before I was born) collected elephants, had a rather extensive collection. I also have an affinity to them and have an extensive collection. Is it coincidence? Some have thought that maybe I an the reincarnation of her. I don't believe that. I think that because when I was little and my Aunt showed me some of the collection and told me what elephants meant to my great-grandmother that it made an impression on me of how majestic they are and it stuck with me. Simple as that.
Now don't get me wrong, I do believe that some things do have deeper meaning, like I said, synchronicity. The book 'The Celestial Prophecy' is a great read and a good example of what I mean. Some things are meant to happen and are supposed to help lead us to where we're supposed to go. But we have to use our head to figure those out.
Just my two cents on the subject.

My birthday is july 13 and i was born on my due date. The doctor told my mum that I was conceived around the 30th of September...Thats the day my fathers mother died.
I have her smile and wicked sense of humor Im told.
My brother is june 6 and we tend to notice that weird things happen on that date and he can turn his date of birth into 666.
His next trippy event is when venus will pass betweeen the earth and the sun which will be visible from earth on the 06/06/2012
To continue on the thread of historical coincidences. It seems remarkable to me how often ancient classifications fell during times of conflict due to natural disasters.
The Mayans fell due to 9 years of drought and floods.
The ancient Britons spoke of three years of rain when king Arthur left the land.
Not to forget the plagues in the bible, the scourge of the black death and more recently the flu pandemic which killed more soldiers than World War 1 itself. Almost as if our masters were spanking us for bad behavior ?
I still don't find any of that a strange coincidence. Simply cause and effect. Whether the cause was intended by a higher power or not I can not say, but for the majority of it, I doubt it.

Synchronicity is a good word for it or chance (coincidence) or possibly a sign.
I had a happening over a few years. It started in the middle of the 70s and ended when one of my granddaughters was born (2004). She doesn't seem to be related to it directly. At least I haven't figured the connection except by date.
My Father's first name was George and his birthday was in August but not the beginning. I dated someone and almost married him (this is where it started). His birthday was August 8 and his first name Jorge (George). He was from Argentina originally. I met someone just after whose birthday was August 8 and whose first name he spelled George but was Jorge technically. His father was English so he preferred that spelling due to his last name. His Mother was from Mexico and he had been given a very long Spanish grouping of names starting with Jorge. As far as I'm concerned George is George no matter the language. Then later I met someone I was with for seven years and his middle name was George and you guessed it, his birthday was August 8. He cheated on me with someone who had recently gotten a divorce but I knew them as a couple prior to that. Her husband's name was George and his birthday was August 8. Then my granddaughter was born on August 8. Her gradfather of course is George.
Very often I will speak to someone about an old movie or some other thing and within a week or less it appears somewhere. The movie on TV or mentioned in some series show, etc. What it all means I don't know.
Well sometimes agencies screw your computer and mobile phone /facebook and forum threads for new ideas on Tv etc or to get notion of whats popular.
Discovery, true blood, being human etc all hang around our threads. Sill, they are public so who cares?
What I mean by this? it is not random.
I think its just a coincidence and not much else. I agree with those who point out that the human mind has to find patterns and secret messages in everything around us.
I don't know. Personally I don't believe in coincidence. I think everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we don't understand the message. I have had another that was really out there but I won't post it. I have posted it before when a similar thread was in the forum.
This is a pretty strange one...
Choir practice at the West Side Baptist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska, always began at 7:20 on Wednesday evening. At 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 1950, an explosion demolished the church. The blast forced a nearby radio station off the air and shattered windows in surrounding homes.
But every one of the choir's fifteen members escaped injury, saved by a fortuitous coincidence: All were late for practice that night. Considering the sanctified site of the explosion, it was not surprising that some attributed the near miss to divine intervention.
They supposed rightly that the odds of unanimous tardiness were slim indeed, especially when the reasons were examined. Car trouble delayed two women. The minister and his wife and daughter were delayed by a dress that needed ironing at the last minute. Others were late because they paused to complete homework, finish a letter, or hear the end of a favourite radio show. One awoke late from a nap. Some could think of no special reason; they were just late.
It is impossible to calculate precise odds for all these events occurring at once. But past performance indicated that each person would be late for practice one time in four - producing a one-in-a-million chance that the entire choir would be late that night.
Beatrice: The Explanation
It happened on the evening of March 1 in the town of Beatrice, Nebraska. In the afternoon the Reverend Walter Klempel had gone to the West Side Baptist Chruch to get things ready for choir practice. He lit the furnace -- most of the singers were in the habit of arriving around 7:15, and it was chilly in the church - and went home to dinner. But at 7:10, when it was time for him to go back to the church with his wife and daughter Marilyn Ruth, it turned out that Marilyn Ruth's dress was soiled. They waited while Mrs. Klempel ironed another and thus were still at home when it happened.
Ladona Vandergrift, a high school sophomore, was having trouble with a geometry problem. She knew practice began promptly and always came early. But she stayed to finish the problem.
Royena Estes was ready, but the car would not start. So she and her sister called Ladona Vandergrift, and asked her to pick them up. But Ladona was the girl with the geometry problem, and the Estes sisters had to wait.
Sadie Estes' story was the same as Royena's. All day they had been having trouble with the car; it just refused to start.
Mrs. Leonard Schuster would ordinarily have arrived at 7:20 with her small daughter Susan. But on this particular evening Mrs. Schuster had to go to her mother's house to help her get ready for a missionary meeting.
Herbert Kipf, lathe operator, would have been ahead of time but had put off an important letter. "I can't think why," he said. He lingered over it and was late.
It was a cold evening. Stenographer Joyce Black, feeling "just plain lazy," stayed in her warm house until the last possible moment. She was almost ready to leave when it happened.
Because his wife was away, Machinist Harvey Ahl was taking care of his two boys. He was going to take them to practice with him but somehow he got wound up talking. When he looked at his watch, he saw he was already late.
Marilyn Paul, the pianist, had planned to arrive half an hour early. However she fell asleep after dinner, and when her mother awakened her at 7:15 she had time only to tidy up and start out.
Mrs. F.E. Paul, choir director and mother of the pianist, was late simply because her daughter was. She had tried unsuccessfully to awaken the girl earlier.
High school girls Lucille Jones and Dorothy Wood are neighbors and customarily go to practice together. Lucille was listening to a 7-to-7:30 radio program and broke her habit of promptness because she wanted to hear the end. Dorothy waited for her.
At 7:25, with a roar heard in almost every corner of Beatrice, the West Side Baptist Church blew up. The walls fell outward, the heavy wooden roof crashed straight down like a weight in a deadfall. But because of such matters as a soiled dress, a catnap, an unfinished letter, a geometry problem and a stalled car, all of the members of the choir were late - something which had never occurred before.
Firemen thought the explosion had been caused by natural gas, which may have leaked into the church from a broken pipe outside and been ignited by the fire in the furnace. The Beatrice choir members had no particular theory about the fire's cause, but each of them began to reflect on the heretofore inconsequential details of his life.

"Coincidence. That's an explanation used by fools and liars."
~ Lionel Luthor
This world is purpose-driven. Things happen for a reason which we don't know yet.
Patterns patterns patterns. That is what the humans look for is it not. I believe in no coincidences. Fate is it.
Long it has been told of humans that can take the mind of creatures.
Favorite among these is the Raven or Crow.
Tolkien mentions the talking Raven in the new film and old Book, "The Hobbit"
Of course, these old legend of witches watching others through a Raven, in films like the Omen are all non-sense?
Until Now, scientists have discovered Ravens are UNIQUE
Indeed, very intelligent, use tools, bond with a mate, point and communicate just like us. So next time you think they are watching you, smirks, they are.
Or perhaps, it is just Coincidence?

It isnt just Ravens and Apes Fallen..ever see an Eagle drop a Turtle to crack his shell?

I think our government knew of these happenings way before hand since you can fold money and see the buildings and if you fold it a different way you see the buildings get destroyed ON OUR OWN CURRENCY I think that is messed up....now south korea is building two towers that look like they are exploding lots of gossip about if they did it on purpose or not....the world is a strange place but I believe the fates control everything and the coincidence factor makes it easier for us to communicate our thoughts and feelings
I think it all is just coincidences. I think there's an explanation for everything, though we may not be able to find it at times, and things certainly are strange, and ironic, but not "fate" or anything like that.
I think it's likely that we cause coincidences like this one to happen more often than we realize.
We have never had two go off at once, bound to happen sooner or later...I love strange coincidences....

Our minds have undectable fields in the "dark spectrum" and I can prove it (for omce, a genuine scientific article for the Wizards n Witches amongst you)
Read this cleverly hidden article...experiments prove mind over matter actually directly affects both energy, matter, and therefore future events...and Gov.ment know...

As my good friend Mulder would say "there is no such thing as coincidence". It is all cause and effect. Visible or not!
I don't believe in coincidences. It is just a thing that happened, and that people look too much into. You can find coincidences everywhere if you look, but that does not make them coincidential.
All through out nature, there are patterns.
It has always seemed to me that this would hold true in events that happen as well.
