Ok this might not apply to any one but if it does please. POST POST POST!!!
Question: Do you associate colors with things like music people sounds movements etc............?
Example: when I close my eyes while listening to music I see colors dance. Even with my eyes open I can still get a hint of what color I am listening to. Scientist have brought up the theory of animals smelling in colors. Do you think it relates?
I don't think it really goes in this section but I like the topic anyway.
I can't say that I've seen colors while listening to music. I know that scientists have associated colors with emotion and I think that maybe that's what you're referring to. Music plays a big part in everyone's lives and ties in to some kind of emotion so it would make sense that you would associate some colors to some of the emotions you're feeling while listening to some of the songs. That's my opinion on it anyway. *shrugs* I could be way off. *laughs* I've never heard of the animals smelling in color thing though. I don't think that part of it makes much sense. I don't see how smelling in color would be of any help to them at all but hey. What do I know? My nose is nowhere near as powerful as other animals.
Nice topic.
It is known as Synesthesia...where people see or smell colour when listening to music etc..
Im not so sure about animals smelling in colour however, because many animals are colour blind..But maybe they do.
yes i do associate colors like i do music i get feelingas off of colors as well as music, i think that why i listen according to what mood i am in
The only thing I associate with color is coffee when it is way too strong. I don't know why but, I always say coffee is "red" when it is too strong.
As far as music goes, I associate it with people, places and how I'm feeling at a certain time.
When I listen to music, I come up with stories, or scenes in my head, or, depending on the strength, flashes of images. Sometimes, colors give off feelings rather than feelings give off colors for me. And other times it is the other way around. When it comes to my mood, music doesn't depend on the type, or the artist. It depends on the sound or picture it depicts, or perhaps simply the type of sound (no, I do not mean the type, like if I am sad, i do not want something depressing.... I could still want something the same, I just want something where the voice and the music work a certain way. I listen to music according to levels of sound, because they make specific scenes, and in those scenes, come color.
I get this sort of thing allot , but i tend to get colourful geometric patterns with music .
I see many colours during meditation and think they are a crude form mental imaging they often develop into more complex patterns or picture scenes , almost a simplified / crude form of dreaming . Observing these images leaves me wondering where they actually come from . I've come to think they are the subconscious interacting at a very deep level with the ether / dream substance . Some of the images and colours interacting with each other can be insanely beautiful , i love observing these sort of things .
i do associate colors with music. my music always depends onn wht mood im in.well most of the time.
*looks up* I agree!!!!!!!
Very beautiful very entrancing. I've come to think of it as a companion. Feels I'm not sure but hell maybe your right people tend to change color as fast as their emotions.
Colour, incidently has a lot of influence on our moods, due to our natural ability to entrain with their frequencies.
Plus, even though most of us do not experience Synesthesia in the literal sense of the word, most of us do associate colours with music ,mood and scent.
Its fascinating really.
i see all kinds of colors when i listen to music. i dance a lot and i see my aura in my dance steps and it matches songs perfectly. i love to dance so if u see me on cam feel free to ask me to dance
i associate moods with colors not the cheesy mood ring color changing stuff but i can see the emotional waves of people kinda like an aura except in bursts...
~silver
I argee with you about seeing it in bursts but don't you always feel it under everything.? Like something you could almost grasp but not quite there.
i feel it stronger with negative energy...possibly becuase i am always positive..so there could be another negative force trying to counter mine or not? any ideas?
I know I can smell color, but most people look at me weird if I mention it.
Music evokes people and images for me as well, and with that comes a full range of Technicolor...or a beautiful dark glowing blue with grey and black.
(And my fave color is red - lol).
I associate purple with Enrapture, red with Rose, and yet can never pick a colour for myself.
One of my favourite songs ("Bring Night" by Sia) makes me think of bright yellow and certain voices make me think of certain colours, too.
The voice association is interesting..I would like to hear more about that.
Well, my mum's voice is lilac, but her in general... pale red. Rose is red too, but a deeper, richer shade, and her voice is pink.
Like those 'mood rings' of the 70's? Even though one got a variety of ever-changing colors with those, it was pretty obvious that the rings were using body heat...
which brings up another question...do moods have colors? At least on a representational level?
(For example, anger and lust is generally represented with the color red).
Sorry if I went a bit off-topic...
Still the same, really, if not a little darker for anger and so on and so forth.
I know there's gotta be others out there that think of people and voices in certain colours.
This sort of thing is extremely helpful for the aspiring energy manipulator.
Anyway, it's more of an artsy thing than synesthesia, unless i misinterpreted. Moods are attached to vibrations, which are attached to colors... Abstract art arises from colors portraying moods, and i'm pretty sure it's what makes them interesting. Ever consider painting? Or composing?
True,true and...sorta true.
Theres difference between artistic impression and synthesia thou.
True synesthesia is actually kindof rare..
Theres a pretty good file on it..
Synesthesia: Phenomenology And Neuropsychology.
The link is too long to post.
indeed there is.
I heard it happens a lot while under the effects of LSD, though
certain music makes me think of psycodelic colors and swirls
Sorry I've been gone a while. With emotions, to me the stronger the emotion the darker or bolder it becomes. People with a weak will tend to be pale in comparison. Thoughts?
Tzaddi, same. :P
And since I don't believe in "energy manipulation" and since I am fantastically arty, I'll assume it's because I am an artist, and "we see the world in different ways".
Not trying to be at all mystical, but meaning... I think I have a greater appreciation of colours, hues, shades, bright and bold than say, my brother does.
It interests me, so I pay attention.
I think about it a lot, so it becomes common.
Makes logical sense to me.
No I have not read that bit on animals smelling in colours. I only they know they "see" in colours.
Emotions are associated with colours more frequently than not. Music is also associated with emotions, thus colours. Perhaps.
I have often associated music with colors, and it does come in bursts. More often than not, I associate people with colors by how I percieve them.
Lullaby -
I'm an artist too, and colors and what they represent - even on a subconscious level - are important.
I think it's interesting that there was a comparison here with 'weak' people being like 'weak pale' colors...hmmm.
Great topic. I don't know if I have ever associated colors with music but I can close my eyes and lay my head down touching my arm and I can see like a galaxy image. It's still there when I open my eyes too.
Synesthesia is a form of schizophrenia, which may or may not be related, or you have a strong connection to colors
Synesthesia is a form of creativity. During Romantism and Symbolism it was a method largely used by poets! So if you can make the difference between real and imaginary you`re not yet crazy.
I do know that colors influence how we are feeling. However, not every color may mean the same to someone else. For example: Most people when they are sad they usually say I am blue. When someone is in a romantic mood or in love they say they are red or pink. However, I feel purple when I feel romantic or in love, while when I am angry I feel as if I am red.
However, I do agree that color does have a lot of influences on everyday life and such.
Great discussion by the way.
It is real. I learned about it in my psychology class in college. I don't understand it as much. I associate colors with feelings sometimes, yes.... maybe the feeling a song gives me, will relate to a color.
But the whole smelling colors, I get confused about. It's just something I can't understand because I don't experience it. I think it would be neat, though.
I live life in color! I smell in color, I hear in color,
I taste in color!
I understand your question.
I don't know much about that because I don't smell colour but I used to see a light blue colour when I was about the age of thirteen
~littleredvampire
I'm sooooo glad this is connecting. And with everyone I'm glad we are getting such good discussion. I know several people tucked base on this before but as a whole do you think that color will effect every person in the same general way or not even close?
There are many different types of this condition,so it isnt going to affect two people in the same way.Remember..these people actually SEE colours when they hear music, and are not just creatively associating sound with colour.
*looks up* ok but for me I don't see so much as feel, that is unless my eyes are closed bu do you think the experience is the same. My music teacher and I both find minors in blue and things like such. But essentially we both experience it the same way.
Its a pretty rare condition in its true form, but certainly stranger things have happened!! :)
Next time you see the DR. ask him about it.
maybe its just colour of life.and its influence your lifestyle or your music and your mind.
i like black colour, why ? black have meaning of scient.
Everything and everyone is not the same so every encounter will not be the same. From time to time it will differ and when you lose yourself it will disappear with you.
Actually, I do associate colors with things. One of my friends is color blind, so whenever I tell him about a memory or a certain item he's looking at, I associate it with a color. Like yellow makes me think of the sun, it's a happy feeling. Or purple reminds me of butterflies which make me anxious or excited.
You know,I have a friend also who is colour blind.I have always tried to imagine being that way,but its very hard for me to do so.
But I am blind in one eye.
And I think about how it feels normal to me to be that way.Well, until I get the urge to see in 3D.
Someone who is colour blind might feel the same way too.
Funny how that works.
ive heard that colours can have varoius effects on people.black being a power colour and red and white also.ive heard that some people can see colours while listening to music but never experianced it.my fave colour is blue and white.i like wearing things with those colours.
OK so now I'd like to know what color you'd see your self as and why.
black because I am a dark soul and black butterflies are drawn towards me as if static
First I'd like to point out to Oceanne that 1. I love your name! and 2. My eye doctor once told me that both my eyes are light sensitive and that they are heightened then normal. meaning i see better then normal people would think. BUT he told me i may be going blind in one eye some day.
Anyways, I actually am not sure of what color i see myself. Personally, if you were to look at yourself through colors then the color would have to match your personality along with your emotions. Which can be very tricky. So, I am a little stumbled upon that question.
maybe multiple colors? I am not sure.
sight is only one of our senses but it is a major part of how we take in the world around us As individuals we are weak in one area and strong in another so it is possible that you "see the world differently" than say I do. Perhaps you are obsessed with color in which case perhaps you are an artist on some level.
I have music as a major part of who I am so oddly enough I am counting time almost all the time. In the back of my mind I am counting off a rythem that most time I am the only one who can hear. If that makes sense to you.
We are all vastly more dimensional than we know.
well im no doctor, but i think you have Synaesthesia.
Synesthesia (also spelled synæsthesia or synaesthesia, plural synesthesiae or synaesthesiae), from the ancient Greek σύν (syn), "together," and αἴσθησις (aisthēsis), "sensation," is a neurologically based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.[1][2][3][4] People who report such experiences are known as synesthetes.
In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme → color synesthesia or color-graphemic synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored,[5][6] while in ordinal linguistic personification, numbers, days of the week and months of the year evoke personalities.[7][8] In spatial-sequence, or number form synesthesia, numbers, months of the year, and/or days of the week elicit precise locations in space (for example, 1980 may be "farther away" than 1990), or may have a (three-dimensional) view of a year as a map (clockwise or counterclockwise).[9][10][11] Yet another recently identified type, visual motion → sound synesthesia, involves hearing sounds in response to visual motion and flicker.[12] Over 60 types of synesthesia have been reported,[13] but only a fraction have been evaluated by scientific research.[14] Even within one type, synesthetic perceptions vary in intensity[15] and people vary in awareness of their synesthetic perceptions.
I hope I've helped
Ummm i see myself as a dark purple. Because i get visions a lot.the day i was awakened i saw ahouse being set on fire. To da later it happene. Two kids. 6&8 died. I didn't knw it was i saw was real. Lent do anything about it.
And i know that purple is usually myaura color!
simple: these are called auras- you see auras in motion.
Thank you Celest.:)
@ Catseye..Indeed they do influence us.And in a big way too. This is mainly due to their frequencies and how we,as humans naturally entrain with those frequencies. We tend to prefer colours that are close to our own.If we read the posts above,it is aplo probable that we project those very colours when we are healthy, through our auras..
I do associate colors with certain things but not very often. I can't even think of any particular examples right now to post. I see words, I hear things. My visual and auditory senses are very acute. I kind of have a 6th sense, kind of like intuition or psychic abilities.
