The sacred Aztec calendar is properly called the Eagle Bowl. It represents the solar deity Tonatiuh. The amazingly accurate calendar has been in use in various forms for more than 2,000 years. A Zapotec prophecy, based on the Eagle Bowl, states:
“After Thirteen Heavens of Decreasing Choice, and Nine Hells of Increasing Doom, the Tree of Life shall blossom with a fruit never before known in the creation, and that fruit shall be the New Spirit of Men.”

The 13 Heavens and 9 Hells were each 52 years long (1,144 years total). Each of the 9 Hells were to be worse than the last. On the final day of the last Hell (August 17, 1987), Tezcatlipoca, god of death, would remove his mask of jade to reveal himself as Quetzelcoatl, god of peace.

In the mythology of the Aztecs, the first age of mankind ended with the animals devouring humans. The second age was finished by wind, the third by fire, and the fourth by water. The present fifth epoch is called Nahui-Olin (Sun of Earthquake), which began in 3113 BC and will end on December 24, 2011. It will be the last destruction of human existence on Earth. The date coincides closely with that determined by the brothers McKenna in The Invisible Landscape as “the end of history” indicated by their computer analysis of the ancient Chinese oracle-calendar, the I Ching.

The Mayan calendar is divided into Seven Ages of Man. The fourth epoch ended in August 1987. The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Sunday, December 23, 2012. Only a few people will survive the catastrophe that ensues. In the fifth age, humanity will realize its spiritual destiny. In the sixth age, we will realize God within ourselves, and in the seventh age we will become so spiritual that we will be telepathic.

Personally I prefer the ancient prophecy of the dark planet that skims earth every few thousand years.
Prophets speak of the miss then the "collsion". More detailed analysis of the so called collsion states the dark body comes so close to earth as to cause techtonic shifts, earthquakes and fire.
Astrology shows the dark planet does not exist but there is an asteroid due that will first miss us, then come very, very, close around 2030.
Perhaps this is what they spoke of, I think so.

Just watch the show Doom Preppers on national geographical, its just full of people who have let their commonsense be highjacked by irrational interpretations of stuff left behind by a superstitious primitive culture.

I can hardly wait to see how quickly they will slide the date once nothing happens.

Nice topic, but what is the question for discussion here? Or are we just supposed to comment on the information you stated.

It's amazing how many times they have already changed the date for the end of the world, it was supposed to be last year, the world was supposed to completely crash in 2000, nothing happened, we are all still here......

Unless....... the world really did end and we are stuck here in this form of hell...... would you really know? How would you know if the world ended? something to think about anyway and its just my opinion

End of the world will come soon for everyone.
It is called Death.

2012 is a CHANCE.
A PORTAL.

For most of us.

But humanity will live on.

I don't think anyone knows when it will all end. You don't know what is going to happen next Wed or next Sat how can you expect to know when the end will come. And yep death ends the world for ya and since we all die. I don't think we are going to die this year. I mean nothing happened in 2000.

geology shows us that the world has ended several times.but the world and earth are actually two different things.ive heard of the black planet nibiru.humand an dinosaurs coexisted.there is a famour fossill footprint showing a dinosaur and human footprint in the same rock.of course the scientists repressed it.artifacts have often been found in coal seams.when the portugese found the canarias the inhabitansts where amazed.they said they thought they where the last people on earth as all overs had died in a flood.

I really cannot see how they can predict the end of the world on a specific date when they have a hard time predicting the weather day to day.

The earth waxes and wanes in its cycles we are all on a cosmic ride spinning through space on a wobbly, ball of liquid rock with a thin crust at around 67,062 miles per hour around a immense ball of burning gas..aka .. the sun! Now , that in itself ought to make you feel proud to be alive! Sort of squashes your ego when you think about the reality.

Bottom line is , maybe we are over due for something drastic, the earth has been stable for a long time now and maybe she is due for a "face lift". Nobody will know for sure but when it happens .... and if it does... then we will deal with it accordingly. Also, it would not hurt to be prepared. After that not much else that can be done.

I am sure the dinosaurs thought hey had sealed the deal but in the end....we are all at her mercy. Who is not to say one day the slate will be wiped clean again.

"The Mayan calendar does not end in 2012. Like all calendars it is perpetual. A great cycle of time ends in 2012 according to the Maya, but the calendar continues. No one has ever found a Mayan prophecy about 2012. The actual, ancient Maya did not predict any particular happening in 2012 except the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. The whole 2012 end of the world song and dance comes from people, usually of Christian ancestry, projecting their unconscious, ancestral apocalypticism onto the unsuspecting artifact of another culture. “Mayan” has become a kind of brand name, a cool icon that people can put in front of whatever stares back at them from the carnival funhouses mirror. Mayan culture has less to do with them than Cuban Marxism has to do with the guy in your local coffee shop wearing a Che Guevera T shirt. Sure it’s become a tasteless, if accepted, pop culture tendency to appropriate meaningful items and make them into a bit of image or word “bling”, but at least it is done blatantly. For example, no one buys a Zen Republic Energy Drink thinking that they are imbibing Zen Buddhism or supporting a republic."

So what does 2012 hold? What will the end of one age and the beginning of another bring forth? Well we’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe nothing spectacular, maybe something so great that it will unite or even possibly destroy the human concept of reality as it is propagated by those with apocalyptic dreams of the end of days and the beginning of a new reality.
Maybe the “Overlords” of Arthur C. Clarke’s “Childhoods End” will appear in the heavens and reveal themselves and admit that they are no greater than we and that they too answer to a higher force. Maybe “First Contact.” Maybe nothing at all, maybe everything hoped for.

University of Kansas study...the LAVA lamp theory...that title made me giggle...winks at Paul Newman.

This theory reveals facts, extinctions that conicide with Geological upheaval...techtonic plate upheaval...shallow seas, mass extinctions.

To cut a long story short it shows how Lava Plumes surface every 60 million years making things very hot and volatile on the crust.

DAVYDENKO-great post, I also believe it is not a prediction of the end of the world but a new cycle to take place, many doomsday theories have been and all have gone past the times of its occurrence. will mother earth live forever, nah, but for any mortal to predict the end of days would be a 1 in a million chance. This theorizing has been around since the written language of the past and will continue long after I am gone from this place.

I just read something about a giant asteroid possibly hitting Earth in 2014.

"On impact, it could have the effect of 20 million Hiroshima atomic bombs, a spokesman for the British government's Near Earth Object Information Centre told BBC radio."

Now, THAT is something.

I know I am going to be a little unpopular (as always) for saying this.
But we humans are so far up our own arses it,s untrue.

Look around, have we done a good job, have we created fair socioties? have we looked after our planet?
do we value aour animals and fellow species?

No, we just want to get rich quick and if that means F**king over our environment, killing something that's been around a million years then so be it.

I love the film "Alien" where they are all trying to kill the evil Queen alien. Scrawnybeaver turns to the corrupt company man who she has discovered is trying to smuggle alien feotuses back to earth.
She says, "so who is the worst species, they are just protecting their own, you don't see them trying to f*ck each other over for a percentage?"
My gut feeling is time is running out for us, Iran and Syria and all the other others bossing people around to stay in power need to Grow Up. Or it won't be the USA and Isreal they have to worry about. It was ok to hide behind religion 100 years ago but no more, the internet has educated all. It reminds me of the SS running around with the Nazi's in black uniforms with skull and crossbones logo's wondering...Hmmm, are we the bad guys?

The asteroid 2030 has a 1 in 500 chance, this is the one they have miscalculated as it is too far away. The numerous others that will just miss are just ordinary and the chances are their calculations are correct, but I think this one has the 0.1 % error.

I think a positive attitude will help alot.

ent of the earth i dont think, end of something else maybe, but mother earth is getting very cheese off of what were going to her, and if it dont slow down, or stop shes going to show us, whom in control, and will tell me all, is not us.

so to the young i said, learn and understand the land better, learn to hunt and bushcraft, but only kill what u need,

to the older one, teach your young one what you can

to those very very young learn to look after yourself and your familys

things can go on like this for too much longer, or can they?????????????????????????????????????????

The Doomsday Preppers programme is hilarious, one guy is teaching his kids to throw sticks n axes in case we run out of ammo...
They call us here on Vr crazy...wheee...we are positively sane compared to the guys on that show.
Like I say, the asterois that has them worried is the one that is due to miss by only a few earth diameters.
That is only a present guess, if it vents gasses whilst warming near the sun, or hits gravity holes then all bets are off.
P.s. Hiding in a bunker is a waste of time, no air is no air.

So I would like to point out the mayan calendar already ended last year, the mayans didn't have leap years, and the 2012 was a direct date coalition not accounting for the leap years.

Currently I think a near mass extinction caused by super valcano such as yellow stone sounds probable, but we are a resilient cunning species and I think while a good number will die, atleast 1000 will survive

Like many others, I have no clue as to when the world will end.
I can say that when it does end, it will most likely be done by our own hands, via diseases, ruining the planet, and war. If not by human hands, then by an asteroid, or the sun exploding perhaps.
Everything that rises must converge, so this world will have an expiration date...not that any of us know what it is.
LOL.

do you mean the end of earth or the end of the human race? rather different i think.
if the end of the planet, there is always the sun expanding till it burns...or a black hole...etc

if humanity...then perhaps ourselves...or a meteor....a really ugly solar flare...velociraptors....its all guess work really.

whatever the cause, we can dwell on what might be, or what is. i prefer to live in the now, but plan for eventualities.

I can tell you for certain NASA has looked into the end of the world theory there is no evidence to support the claim, their is nothing in space near us either, IF a planet or large object were that close to be a threat it would be visible with the naked eye, tere simply is nothing there and as far as the Mayan Long Count Calender goes, its just a calender it ends and starts over just like the one hanging on your wall, people try to theorize mayan culture and beliefs, the mayans disappeared knowone knows what happened to them and when the spanish meet the mayans they destroyed most of their writings because they were not christian based. The world wil end one day history repeats itself, its not if but when? knowone knows really, rather then being concerned with this theory I believe people should just focus on those they love and spend as much time with them as they can thats why we are here, our purpose is to live and love all things come to an end its part of life, we must die so that others maybe born.

I think if the end of the world happens it will be because of man's inability to stop war, pollution, and exploitation of the rrsourses we waste on a daily basis. As a societe, we are bent upon conspicuous consumerism, depleteing resources to the point that we'll be having wars over food supplies.

According to this website:

http://the-end.com/2008GodsFinalWitness/?gclid=CM7gs5jIqa8CFSc0QgodGHa0QA

The end of the world is May 27, 2012... ummm, ok...

This one:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/11/091106-2012-end-of-world-myths.html

Says that it is Dec. 21, 2012, but it also has some pretty interesting stuff in about some of the myths being debunked or at least explained.

This one comes straight from NASA:

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html

It explains some things as to why certain things are happening now.

So as you can see, some people believe, some people don't. But all it takes is one end of the world believer to get everybody up in arms and upsetting everything and everybody.

Nobody knows for sure what is going to happen at the end of 2012.

yes i believe that one day the world will end but the world is already ending for hundreds of people throughout the world whether its children starving to death elders dying from old age or even world disasters like floods. There are so many theories but the truth is we shouldn't think about the end we should think about the beginning and now because the end will come soon enough for all of us

I think people are hooked on the "Whoosh it didn't happen..." setting a date (Prophesying) is nothing new, and cults have been there to cater to the "seekers" or Rubes. people would give up anything to somehow shirk the dig event.

Its the impending feeling building up to the date (dates) that hook people into these theories, all it takes is a moment to look at the credentials of the writers. The fact remains that every forecster falls short in filing studies in things known as journals thaat are reveiwed by peers. All to keep people in suspense, and unsettled states.

Historically, NASA and NOAA repeatedly stated these quakes were within normal range and frequency.

I think the "End of the World" theories are absolutely hilarious.
The end of the world WILL come. But not any time soon, and definately not within our lifetime.
The Mayans predicted the end of the world to be December 21, 2012.
Is it true?
I do not believe so.
Because technically, that date has already passed.
If we didn't have Leap Year, we'd already be somewhere in the years 2015-2020.
But due to Leap Year, we are still in 2012.
That's my theory. Don't believe alot of hogwash you hear.

Commenting on the end of the Mayan Calender a bit... for those that aren't aware it's has not ended yet, that is more internet giberish!!

What they are referring to the Julian calendar named after Cesar but the calendar we use today is the Gregorian calendar. It was instituted by Pope Gregory XIII, Again after whom the calendar was named, by decree on 24 February 1582. This Calendar is the one that makes all 4 year intervals a leap year.
This was done to correct the flaws in the Julian calendar which did not account for the vernal equinoxes... of which with out the prediction of Easter Sunday would be impossible.
The Gregorian calendar made each year 365.25 placing it in corect time with out current atomic clocks.

P.S.
The atomic clock gives us a 365.20 day cycle and the Mayan calender was 365.24 day cycle. Since scientists admit there is a error value of .05 on the atomic clock they still aren't sure which calender system is more accurate.

Applause to you, ~Severus~!

And on another note to prove your point, to institute the Freemasonic Calendar of Anno Lucis (Year of Light), technically we would be in the year 6012 A.L.

Then again, the Maya were not following the calendar dates themselves. They were following the star constellations as well as the alignment of the planets, they were after all very talented Cosmologists.

They believed that beyond a shadow of a doubt, that by the time a certain conjunction of planets aligned with the center of our galaxy, i.e. the sun, earth and the black hole (correct me if I am wrong here), that something spectacular would happen either physically or spiritually.

Much of it has to do with the geomagnetic's of the Earth (leylines/dragon lines) the magnet that is our black hole and what ever spiritual magnetude might be happening on the "cosmic" level if you believe in that theory.

This concept is rarely understood in full benefit to the mind.

Sorry for the rudeness, but here goes. I am not sure if the black hole that holds our galaxy radiates anything back to the planets. I may be wrong. All I know is that it takes in whatever it can take. Not all planets are self-renewing. But the Sun and Earth are. Since the black hole is in the middle of the galaxy, I think you can say that the planets are all aligned to it in one way or the other. It may not be in exactly the same straight line, but how else do the planets (the self-renewing ones, that is) feed from the Source?

I believe that the "cosmic" level is equivalent to the COnsciousness of beings. So, if that is true, then Earth would not be the only planet that would be affected. But yes, to bring it back down, there would be a shift in Consciousness if the alignment were to ever happen. So yeap.

Remember, these are only theories... brought to you by uneducated individuals, professional scientists, etc.

This next educated note comes straight from Nasa:

"The claim for 2012 links these two pieces of astronomical fact with a third -- the position of the sun near the galactic center on Dec. 21, the winter solstice for the Northern Hemisphere -- to produce something that makes no astronomical sense at all.

As Earth makes its way around the sun, the sun appears to move against the background stars, which is why the visible constellations slowly change with the seasons. On Dec. 21, 2012, the sun will pass about 6.6 degrees north of the galactic center -- that's a distance that looks to the eye to be about 13 times the full moon's apparent size -- and it's actually closer a couple of days earlier. There are different claims about why this bodes us ill, but they boil down to the coincidence of the solstice with the sun entering the Dark Rift somehow portending disaster or the mistaken notion that the sun and Earth becoming aligned with the black hole in the galactic center allows some kind of massive gravitational pull on Earth.

The first strike against this theory is that the solstice itself does not correlate to any movements of the stars or anything in the universe beyond Earth. It just happens to be the day that Earth's North Pole is tipped farthest from the sun.

Second, Earth is not within range of strong gravitational effects from the black hole at the center of the galaxy since gravitational effects decrease exponentially the farther away one gets. Earth is 93 million miles from the sun and 165 quadrillion miles from the Milky Way's black hole. The sun and the moon (a smaller mass, but much closer) are by far the most dominant gravitational forces on Earth. Throughout the course of the year, our distance from the Milky Way's black hole changes by about one part in 900 million – not nearly enough to cause a real change in gravity's pull. Moreover, we're actually nearest to the galactic center in the summer, not at the winter solstice.

Third, the sun appears to enter the part of the sky occupied by the Dark Rift every year at the same time, and its arrival there in Dec. 2012 portends precisely nothing.

Enjoy the solstice, by all means, and don't let the Dark Rift, alignments, solar flares, magnetic field reversals, potential impacts or alleged Maya end-of-the-world predictions get in the way."

I heard about the Mayan calendar theory, but I thought the date was December 21, 2012. I don't know what's going to happen, but I am just being aware of things. My friend has this crazy idea that there will be an earthquake on the West Coast in either October or November of this year. In California. I don't know where she's getting her information from. Of course, if i listened to her, I'd have to cancel all future trips to Disneyland at around that time. But no one's in a state of panic....yet.

Well there are nutters and they influence a lot of people. Like that one nut pastor campbell who told people that the end of the world was coming last May, and fools actually sold their homes, quit their jobs and drove to this so called sacred space to wait for it. Imagine how stupid they mist look, having to return home. All that humiliation.

I'll go with sun flares and emp's. lol But chances are your home will be blown away by a snow storm before that will happen thou. Some have hurricanes, and that could cause a few days of headaches and no lights. But the rest is such far fetched. All i can say is, enjoy the ride. :D

The world still possibly has 1000 to 1000 million years to go, who knows when it will end. We have to take care of our planet i agree... but no reason for ridiculous theories like 2012 end of the world.

Myself being from the "Bible Belt" and being forced to church each time the doors were open, I have been told for 30 years that we need to prepare ourselves because the end is near! Im still being told this because my mother is a ordained minister.

My point, I dont believe it. I think we live, we die, and that is all there is to the story. Some of us have a very exceptional life with certain gifts as you may call them, and others live a life following others and what they say is what people will do. Christians are followers. Non believers tend to make their own way, but we all continue to live till our time is up.

That's my opinion anyway. Take it as you may.

For me their are to possibliities one of which is crazy to say but i like it .... computers and robots taking over the world.
At least then I would be in a world that I love and like the most. I would so gladly fight and die for the matrix. lol

But the other that scares the living shit out of me is the world being over ran with zombies. A bomb bigger than Chernobyl and Hiroshima going off in the center of the usa where the whole world could see the shrome cap of that thing. Where half of the world would just die right there leaving the rest to either be killed and rise as zombies or fight to keep what little growing land left for food.
But that nightmare isn't true... yet it still pops up in movies and they scare the shit out of me still... and i know its all make-up.

All I can say is that when I bought the calendar for 2011, it ended at December 31, 2011 so by the logic of the mayan calendar, the world must have ended. But wait a minute, it is May 2012. Guess the world didn't end. The Mayan's had to have a stopping point. Nothing is everlasting. Everything stops. If the mayans were still alive, they'd make a new calendar when this one ran out. Look it up, the mayans have predictions going beyond the mayan calendar. Why would they predict when the world is supposed to be over?

Technically the Mayans are still alive. They relocated. There are at least 1.5 million people, who speak the Mayan language in Guatemala, Belize and the Yucatan.

I watch a lot of the program Ancient Aliens and probably would suggest others did too considering the information they have.

Not just the Mayans but other civilizations had their own Gods they worshipped and knew astronomy, and their environments rather well. They did calculations of things much like we do today, only today our ways are updated and improved, and we have more enlightenment on what is more....factual.

The ancients weren't talking about an "end of days", they were talking about an end of an Era usually wrapped around their Gods and sometimes a rebirth of said Gods.

So far, all the prophets have been 'false', and as we see, one Doomsayer always misleads the masses and just like sheep, people go into a crazed fit each time a new date is presented to them. If it's not the year 2000, then OH it must be 2012. If it's not 2012, then another idiot is going to find some other culture's calculations of things and interpret THAT to being the "end of times".

So at what point are people going to stop the nonsense and realize that humanity has always been easily manipulated?

I find this a fun topic ,since there is no proof til the "world ends". And if it were to end this year could anyone of us stop it, of course not. So to all those that worry about it I tell them to just enjoy wants here and now. Before the Earth reminds us in her way of wrath.

The problem is that the calendars never mention anything about an end of the world, so who exactly came up with THAT concept exactly? If someone can't interpret ancient writings correctly, then perhaps they shouldn't interpret them at all.

Acually the problem is people hear junk information and then repost that junk.
The end date of the Mayan calendar 12/21/2012 has nothing to do with the marching of time as we know it today and the date we apply to it has no baring on it either.
(Please refere to my earlier post!!)

The phase for which they decided to end their calendar on was the end of a cycle, one that is a galactic alignment of the Sun, the Earth, and the center of our galaxy.

This event is a specific point with a fixed date. It has nothing to do with our system of telling time... all the leap years and internet blogs in the world are all irrelevant to this fact.
So my fellow members please don't listen to that junk... December 21, 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar, there is no question about it!!

This is what I have found....

Not the end of the world just the end of a cycle...
http://www.lifeslittlemysteries.com/2220-nasa-crushes-2012-mayan-apocalypse-myths.html

Then I question this....what about leap years? Caesar created leap year not the Mayans or Aztecs....so did the Mayan calendar count the extra days for leap year? Wouldn't that change the date for the end of the world?

Either way...if this is my last year or even if it is not my last year, I will live life to the fullest.

I have been watching doomsday preppers and have heard many from electrical grid failure to oil shortage.

But here is my take...The world WILL end. It is almost a scientific certainty and here is some of the reasons why.

Things that have been shown my Geography to have happened multiple times......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a volcano that erupts every so many thousand years and here is the fun part....she is LATE.

Sun Spots are another occasional thing. They are common by at semi regual intervals there are massive ones that mess with earth really bad.

Severe Climate Shift... simple terms Ice age.. its happened more than once and will likely happen again.

Polar Realignment... Basically north becomes south and south becomes north.

I am sure there are others I can not think of at this moment.

The moon is moving away from us at a regular rate and will leave our orbit. Could very easily destroy life due to its important effects on tides and stability factors.

The sun will become a Red giant...*has not happened to the sun before but is part of its life cycle

Continental Drift...

Couple things we may do...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CBNR War (chemical, Biological, Nuclear, Radiological
Depleat resources
Excessive pollution

I dont know which one will get us or when but that first list is all scientifically proven.

Its like Russian roulette with all six chambers filled one will get you...but which one.

Didn't Jehovah's Witnesses claim that the world was going to end in 1918? And when it didn't happen, they changed their story to say that the date was 'the beginning of the end'? And they later had a new date, @ 1973 or so?
Anyway - so much for anyone - Mayans, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc - making an accurate prediction. I don't recall the book or verse number, but there a quote in the Bible that states that 'Only God knows the end - not his Son, nor the Angels...' While I'm not religious, the quote does make sense, in that NO ONE can predict the end of the world, or anything else that momentous.

I believe the point to the Mayan Calendar's End of the Age is simply that...an end to the 4th age which will be marked by any number of various earthquakes. Has anyone forgotten the massive earthquake that hit Chile? It physically altered the Earth's axis. A change in the Earth's axis affects the weather and can nominate a definite "end" to life as we have known it, although it would take an even more massive quake than what hit Chile to effect our axis significantly enough to warrant an "immediate" change in weather and atmosphere.

As I recall reading upon the topic of the End of the Age according to Mayan theology, it is more in point to the advancement and development of the human race as a whole. That with each age we learn something more or evolve to a different level.

The new age according to the names of our Zodiac, calls this the Age of Aquarius, which indicates an time of increasing knowledge and technology. We are certainly there. While the Mayans call the passing age, the Age of the Old Man, which is indicative of the death of all things once accepted or known, that what served us in prior centuries will fall away as "old tech."
Tell me, what's the new trend on our current technology that denotes as soon as you purchase a computer of any sort, it's value declines within 6 months as newer, better technology becomes available? At the rate we're going now, the I-pad and I-phone will soon be a thing of the past as something better will be developed and it is most likely as mankind adapts and evolves, we won't need the 4G connection to communicate anymore, we'll be able to "think" our communications telepathically. There is already a great deal of study and development for the use of head sets that actively create a way for your own brain to become an interfacing computer to the world around us. At the moment, they are being used in gaming systems but it shouldn't be long before they are utilized for helping the handicapped and then on from there to other applications.
The End of any Age is always fraught with loss of life as those who will fight to keep things as "they are." Or shall we forget this Age of Darkness we've only recently left behind when the Catholic Church, at one time and many others, decreed the studies of Universal Sciences a reason to put intelligent men on trial for blasphemy?
Personally, I don't put much stock into the End of the World theories as All of Life being Destroyed. If we shall devolve or evolve, it will happen on a gradual but progressive slant as the disappearance of the polar bears now...or the dodo bird. Thankfully, we've not any pretty plumage upon our hides to pluck for some Alien Lady's Hat.

ok heres my 2 cents.. Everything has a beginning and an end. Including the Mayan calender. Its an end of an era or phase it doesn't mean its the end of the world, just a cycle. Besides if the Mayans could predict the end of the world, why couldn't they predict their own extinction? People have been talking about and predicting the end of the world since the beginning of time. (Take Y2K for example) For all we know the Mayans calender ends there because they were annihalated while they were still working on it. Like a lot of people I think it's simply the end of an age,not the total destruction of the planet. Granted there are astronomical events that are scheduled to take place at that time and I think that that's what is giving the "end of the world' theory credibility, when it's nothing more than coincidence.

The resources of our Earth are finite. At some point this will end in a mass extinction event.

One thing I know for sure though... I am using the end of the Mayan calendar to party like there is not going to be a tomorrow. If the worse happens at least I will have no hangover to deal with.
