do you believe that human nature is good or evil?
I think that Human natur is evil and that "good" is taught to us during childhood by mean of disipline when we are "mean" or "bad".
what are your thoughts on the subject?
Well to put it bluntly am proud to be human and at the same time I'm not but apparently no one is born evil and were taught different moral's and ethics at a young age in relation to our culture race and religion so it depends how the individual choose'sto interpret theor personal teachings that will shape their human nature :) hope that helps any
I would have to say that evil and good are human creations......
and that humans do not have a nature.....
or rather it is their nature to be without nature......
the ability to choose and to weave a path from the world isn't an ability to be lightly catagorized.....
good and evil are just tidy little boxes that we wish other people would fit into....
I Don't belive there is good/evil thing in the world...
For example, something is evil to you and that same thing is good for me :)
That's really just a point of view
And about humans, I could only say that they/we (whatever) are disease, we destroyed this world...
I personally think that we are born with the elemental idea of 'survival of the fittest.'
The idea of how nurture effects our human nature is questionable, as from a personal stanbpoint, none of us knwo anyone that has not been affected by modern society.
heh my that's a little arrogant saying we've destroyed the world.... we're a speck in comparison to other species polution wise (oxygen is pollution from plants that killed off the then dominant anerobic bacteria)....
or asteroids (one collided with our little blue sphere with such an impact that it vaporised the ocean and burnt all life from the surface but it still didn't destroy all the life on the planet.... anerobic microbes survived miles below ground...... )
to say that humanity is a disease that has destroyed this world is giving us far too much credit... we're not as big and bad as that.... if we're a disease to this planet we wouldn't even be a cold....
human nature is a very compelx thing it has so many dffernet levels so i dont know were to begin
i see humans as blobs of shapeless clay. Circumstances mold us into what we choose to become ( whether it is evil or good ).
i think that it is different for each person, because of choice, it does not matter how much disipline we have at childhood or throughout our lives it is our choice weather we choose to live good lives or evil lives.
humans are definatly born without good or evil. babies aren't capable of saying words so they can't know the concept of good and evil.
it's third party influences that make a person who they are. but even on top of that some "bad" things have logic.
there was a farmer here in england not so long ago who shot some kid in self-defence (the kid was also robbing his house) the farmer went to prison. he shot someone... which is pretty evil. but in the circumstances he was pretty right to do so.
i liked echo's point. that none of us can really see humans completely untouched by society.
i think there was an experiment once (unsure about the truthfulness of this) but i heard a scientist put four babies in a white room. and gave them no other human contact. they were fed through means of mechanical arms i think... anyway the babies basically died unexplainably after a week i think and didn't communicate between them.
shows that society and contact might be needed in modern humans. which in turn would label them with "good" and "evil"
Everyone has own thoughts about it.
I said mine
for example Look only at the wars...
If one sees humanity as evil , it's because they fail to see the good some do.
Evil and good are overrated terms for "acceptable and unacceptable to society".
Oooh! A discussion on psychology! *jumps up and down* I think Gorey said it best. *points up* People are born neutral, and then shaped by how they are raised and subjected to society.
SilentSway, my post was sort of spawned from echos as it was pretty much saying the same but smaller.
well we're not the only species that wars....
but if you are using war as an example of evil then wolves, ants and most other social creatures are therefor evil or plauge like....
Most behavior that man has, has anologs in nature so if we are evil for our behavior then all life by default that shares that behavior would have to be evil....
I see alot of people refering to acceptable and unacceptable in society, (I even do it but who decides what is and isnt acceptable??
I think a concensus of sorts decides, well that and the shudder factor....
if anything can make you shudder by mentioning it... it is usually unacceptable and possibly very fun.....
you take the uck factor in as well and generally acceptable things tend to be like pablum or wet cardboard.... inherently unpalatable
humans are creatures who fallow what they are told and led by fase hope for a better ending or more power. humas are powerd by greed they must have what they cant. i have studied the humans and they seem to flok and hudel around the most powerfull one in order to learn. the weaker ones are picked on or made fun of, all for the more powerfull ones intertainment. humans are nothing but bullies who consider themselfs to be superior
human nature sucks...but I love to be alone in nature...it's peaceful and takes away my soul
it balences it out we do both good and bad. i will expound on that after i come off from work.
So humans are like a wolf pack in other words? Picking off the weaker ones and watch the alphas run a muck?
Watching humans? What exactly are you dear?
humans i believe are neither good/evil in nature, but are influenced my good/evil things
i really dont look at it as good and evil never thought of it like that.
i know that we are creatures of habbit and we evolve over time to adapt to the changinh world. we are born to surivie its suriviel of the fittest with us and everything around us. the strong live on and the weak die out
i guess we are all born good and something happens in life that changes some to be bad and then theres some in between it all.
the human race is inehrintly evil in my opinion, babys and toddlers are greedy and hateful, we concider that an evil trate.
being nice and "good" is something we learn and none of us get it right all the time. in my mind, if you commit one evil act, youre evil; hensforth were all evil by nature.
I believe human nature is sometimes bad and sometimes good. we seem to achieve our greatest feats trough selfishness. and everything we create seem to have a side effect that destroy or hinders nature. as humans we tend act as if we are above nature. try calling a person an animal they get angry when infact we are just that just another thing of nature on this earth another animal. some of us do love nature and all that and others just see their own self interest. and sometimes humans do follow others no matter how idiotic the idea is.
Evil and good are something we're "taught", not something we learn ourselves. I don't see how anyone can say that humanity is evil or good.
very true......humans are neither good nor evil.........we just are.....
to add to echo's post it is true we are instilled with the fundemental idea of " survival of the fittest" even little kids in the first grade have social monarchy and all the "un-cool" kids are seeked out to be metaphysically "lynched" . and you survives all this? the "cool" kids or the fittest of the playground
we as humans, are what we make ourselfs, by choice and paths we take
humans in general make their own desions (sp) we choose whether we want to be evil or not
I think human nature whether being good or evil is a decision that we all make. I don't think it's something that we just automatically are.
at birth i think that the human nature is not good nor evil per with out evil there is no good. we at tought at an age that we out understand what is good and bad but if we are not tought what is bad then how would we know when we do something good..
Human nature is what ever we want to make of it. Tis not good nor evil. It can be but that all depends on us...
Human nature is a balance to me...good and evil...but in some cases one out ways the other and it depends on which path you would want to take...or just keep a balance
I have to side with humans not being inherently good or evil. I also don't believe there is any absolute to either side. There is at least a minute amount of dark in all light, and light in all dark. You cannot have one without the other, they are neither good nor bad, just opposite sides of the spectrum.
We make oru own demons and our own personal strengths, although ti does matter on how we have been introduced to the world... I dont think that either exist, we just merge with our own feeligns and morality.
Humans can be good natured creatures when they want to be, but all they spread is evil. They always have to be in control of something or its to death with who ever disagrees. They start wars and all they want to do is fight until everyone and everything is how they want it. If you ask they need a good taste of their own medicine. They always do this if something isn't their way they have to change it. They need to stop for what goes around comes around.
human nature is neither good nor evil....simply self serving and greedy
and a bit childish
wow just one act of greed makes you evil. well hmm then blame this capitalist society. we shall all become socialists. :)
Good and evil is always very difficult to define except in extreme cases--and even then you have to know the events surrounding that case.
I think humans initially have a capacity for both--and yet choose to do one or the other depending on what "choices" they have available to them at the time. Of course, this belief is often problematic when you start to include psychopaths and antisocial persons.
i believe 90% of human nature is stupid. nothing more nothing less
Humans are selfish, arrogant, and greedy. Because of their sheer numbers and hold of society, we are forced to hide our vampiric nature. They treat us as abnormal or as abominations. They are hypocrites to everything they say and do.
its just human nature to want more and more. if someone else has something they want and they can't get it(like powers of a vampire) then they seek to destroy it!
i believe that we're all born with pure and innoscence and like deity said it's life's experiences that alter that
I think human nature is to ask silly and pointless questions.
When will people realize everything is balance. There is no such thing as just evil or just good. It's a waste of time and an example of human stupidity since we spend all this time wondering whether we're good or not and just sit on our fat asses watching starving children on tv thinking about how "Unfortunate" that is. Cut the crap and go out and live.
Human nature is not so easy to note. Then adding good or evil there is no easy response. It is what we make of it . We as members chose our path in life. We direct ourselves to what lifestyle we would like to live. We do this by any means nessaccery !!
inside, deep, we are bad, we love to inflict pain on others and see the pain in their eyes
but we were taught since we were children. "thats not nice sweetheart" "dont be rude, be nice" blah blah blah. The same old crap
But we all know deep inside we love to feel pain and hurt others and see pain. That is human nature, what humans truly love deep inside their broken soul.
'Is the devil Out, trying to get In? Or In and trying to get Out?'
Hmmmm................
What is evil to me may not be evil to you!
Hmmm, did I just wrote the same sentence that I wrote 1874638326365 times in all "good and evil" threads?
ohhh, it doesen't matter anyway... helps to raise status...
I believe that from pre-conception we are born good, rid of all evil. As we progress in life, human nature currupts our being. It all depends on the choices we make. Our whole being lies on a thin line between good and evil. Whether we choose to cross those lines/barriers, it is our choice. Our conscience per say. We decide what we want to be and how we want to be. Hardly do our experiences take us there but our very own nature. We only blame those events throughout our lives because we see them as an excuse for the way we behave, for the way we are, for the way we choose to be and have others view us.
I do not think humans have a nature to be good or evil.
at this second i do belive people isn't mean or jus stupid, i belive right know that people are pure evil
Human beings aren't born "good" or "evil" they're born somewhere inbetween. Parents and other people around them influence their decisions and in turn make the outcome different. The human species is the only species of animal on earth that fights its own kind for no reason. You can't tell me that that plays no roll in how we act or are looked at.
well most of you mentioned parents, well it's not only parents who influence people, some people can become''evil'' or ''good'' by expiriences, and it also depends what is ''evil'' and ''good'' for a person
that's very true. it can be influenced by your friends decisions. and good and evil are only defined by person performing certain actions.
...still tough people like more to be evil.Cause to be evil is more labelled as cool and it seems someone has to be evil to survive or get respect.
I've been in a fight today and all I can say is humans are stupid, and unluckily I am a human like them grrr....
...it is like when a parson is good natured means that has to be rejected/beaten.
Unfortunately that's true. To be cool you have to do bad things, and to be good, you need to be ridiculed and made fun of. You think there's an inbetween?
human nature is to feed, live, figh and mate. hows to say that is evil is that not what wolves or panthers do. how are we anydifferent from the animals we share Gia with?
Good and evil are human creations. Are sharks good or evil? What about chimps? Lions? We don't generally assign good or evil to anything but ourselves, so I'd have to say its all in our heads. Furthermore, I don't think its possible to be fully one or the other. Everyone is capable of being both naughty and nice.
i think human nature is what ever your instincts are. and i agree i think that what people consider evil or good was thaught to them during childhood. and i think if they were just left to figure things for themselves the world would be a much better place.
There is a very good story called "Unready to Wear", it talks about how the body is attached to all emotions and that if we could shed them, we can get rid of our emotions.
Im not so sure of being able to shed emotions, afterall we are all born human. All humans have a brain and most have the ability to use it. We use logic and yet that is still an emotion. However, good/evil thing, well ummmm ok the world is evil we are evil so we fit.
Humans are moral agence. We are allowed the free will to follow any nature. I believe humans are addapt to the world's cycle and the emotions. If they do or do not enjoy those things that are hassels they can do what they want, and not concerning teh aftermath.
To tell the truth, it all depends on the minds eye and how a person was tought to think. No one can truely see things as Good or Evil, we have moral codes, which is known as Humanity, which we judge things by. Yet, if you strip away the humanity and go with pure logic, what do you see?
If there was a man who just walks up and stabs some one else, everyone would brand this man as a murderer, yet, when you strip away the humanity, you look at it as, yes this man killd this person without what seems to be any reason, yet you look at this world and all the people in it, you come to see, its a form of population control.
Nothing is inherently Good or Evil, like I said, it is all determined by how we were brought up. Humanity is a set of moral codes we were raised on, not some form of race.
Men are still primative, most women are still primative. I'm too lazy to go into why I feel this way and to some it may come out racist.
It is. humans by nature are evil and taught norms that are socially deemed exceptable; not only this but are taught to moralize and justify their evil as good.
human nature in general is neither good or evil. its somewhere in between the two
I am not a big fan of human nature... Alot of them are cruel and heartless... To say if they are born that way oir not, I can not say... All I know is that alot of them turn out evil...
*~Gylanah~*
well you know human nature is so hard to explain soo i don't really know were and how to begin..
I like the way Deity put it. "Circumstances mold us into what we choose to become."
We are nothing but our past and that dictates how we approach future situations.
i belive that over the mordenisation and the change of ethics ideas of good and evil have changed as has the idea of human nature, some beliveing that one can be born evil or good and other favouring the nurture idea, that we are infulenced by what is around us, impresioning our brians and forming the human we become, if you look back at criminals life as a child it is likely that either thier role models set bad examples of what is aceptable. or that they were wronged as a child and taught them that people could be treated as they were and it would be aceptabel, it is all what you have been shown is aceptabel, if you are brough up with strick rules and punishments you are more likely to rebel against them as there are rule to test and try if you are brought up with out punishments but with rules and love then it is likely that you will keep to them to keep the love strong, with no rule but alot
of love then you are unlikely to rebel as there is no reason to.
Human nature is about greed. To take what is not ours and to be unsatisfyed with what we already have. I usually have this dream where everyone is represented as a black hole consuming things as if they were nothing and then moving on to destory what cant be theirs.
I believe humans are both good and evil. We have good personality traits and bad ones too. I think if society wasnt here and we were just primal beings then there would be no such thing as good and evil. Basically good and evil come from the church, telling us morality and the way to behave according to the bible. Obviously certain things concerning morality is natural instinct. Like not killing your own child. But then again in the animal world some insects kill their babies for their own purposes and thats not bad for them.
I see a lot of posts saying I belive this and that in this thread...but that isn't the interesting part......
the how's and why's you came to belive as you do are much more significant.... and hence more interesting.... if you can't figure out why you belive as you do that is interesting as well 'cause are you meerly echoing someone elses conclusion? The core of this being is that we learn from others when we share enough to be let into their world and to see through their eyes at least for a moment...
so the question isn't are humans good or evil by nature but really do you think humans are good or evil and why?
I think the and why is the important bit
I belive most humans are good till the wake up to the real world then they either stay good or change to evil. It all has to do with how your raised and what type of enviroment you live in to.
humans are EVIL!!!! they are soo into them...and like they are EVIL..lol
classifing humans as just evil isnt the way to b. humans are given a small amount of kindness and it is up to humans to nuture that kindness. So basically it depends on the person.
they are food and that is all that is the only thing they are good for~~ and that is all
I think we are born with good and evil intentions...it depends on which was nurtured more as a child. Some people do have more tendencies toward evil behavior if they do not know how to handle life's situations...and of course there are those with mental disabilities...such as the infamous sociopath...born without a conscience...not knowing the nature of right or wrong...basically imprisioned to the "id" part of human nature where basic survival and needs are stored.
i mean there is more to humans then just food they have emotion that gets in the way...but you know...yeah
HUman nature, well, people tend to be bad..some tend to be good..some in between..and so just don't care...
people!
well yeah..i mean feelings do get in the way ..cause i mean they do!!!!!!!!!!! its really sad but..no matter wat you do you will end up getting hurt so i say screw feelings they are stuid...
human nature sucks. the whole concept of human nature is confusing
