I just realized that I spend all night long almost everynight here.. this page is so addictive, it eats my bandwith but who the hell cares? it's MY bandwith.. what do you think about this? what's the most apealing thing about the entire site?

You're right, people here are just like I wanted/needed to be, different but necessary to everyone when it comes to opinions..

I think its the constant little surpises.. like a bite from someone, or a message, or someone that rated my profile/portfolio.. the constant new things invented by Cancer, the polls, the interesting threads we're always inventing... its endless.. and that why we come back.. because something new will always crop up and interest our minds >=)

I think Cancer has installed certain subliminal messages throughout the site, thats why everything is free at first, get you hooked then start charging. Im sure ive seen secret little images pop up between pages every now and again.

the people are really truely great here and theres so many cool things on here theres always something you can do or someone to talk too.

i agree with lenore i dont think its so much the site, than it is the people that keep me coming back.

And yet another vote for the people. I have met some very special, and INTERESTING folks here that are fun, supportive, and just neat-o!

It's so true how you get addicted.... It's the people here. When I'm here, it's kinda like another world, as crazy as that sounds.....

i have made loads of friends on here and so i look forward to coming on here and talking to them, talking to new people, see whats being discussed in the forum

This site really is addictive. I don't think I've ever spent so much of my tiem on the computer until I came here. And now when I'm on the computer, it's the only thing I do besides maybe check my e-mail. I like the fact that there is so much to do, there are the user levels, and there are so many other people on here to meet and talk to.

It's because it's never the same day after day. Besides there are some very interesting people here, have met some really nice people as well. Very informative.

I think it is a combination of things. I personally have made some new friends, learned a few things, and learned a few things that I already knew and wasn't correct about. The people here are great. And Cancer is awesome. This site is awesome.

I can explain. this is a dynamic website unlike your static sites its ever changing. this is a webdesigners/webmasters goal right here to have a site like this one. I keeps you on because the information is ever changing and the whole rating thing can be seem as a competition and who wants to be at the bottom of the food chain no one. :). and there is interaction between real live people etc... and its about a great topic. This site has all the element of a great website and it utilize all the techniques i've ever encounters.

I don't usually post to threads like this, as to me it seems narcissistic, but...

There's no one answer to this question because different people come here for different reasons. Some like to read profiles. Some like to read journals. Some like to read the Forums...

If I had to pick a single element that elevated this site over others, it would be the Status System. When I started designing the site last year, I knew I would need the Status System. At the time I just didn't know what I would need it for. The ancients will tell you that originally there were only 9 levels. But I quickly determined that would be insufficient and I created the system we now have - 30 levels.

The Status System isn't about rank... Although a lot of members here treat it that way. It's about rewarding members based on their site usage. It's extremely flexible and allows me to do things other webmasters can't... Like message limiting for new accounts. Since I enacted message limiting, the problem of message bombing has all but disappeared.

Another example is the delay in allowing new members to post to the Forum.

Ratings are tied to the raters Status, which helps eliminate the problem of users signing up multiple accounts in an effort to rate their own profile and boost their rating.

There's a lot more that I can do with the Status System that I haven't yet... But the mechanism is in place and it's easy to alter as Vampire Rave grows. I expect you'll see other sites copy VR's Status model in the future...

If it was subliminal messaging I think my tinfoil helmet would have kept me safe. Only kidding, I don't have a tinfoil helmet (honest.)

I think it's the variety that makes it addictive. Having so many great things in one place rather than hunting the net for a dozen different sites is fangtastic. And the people jut add to it

I am addicted because of some of the people I have met on the site...

The compitation with status I think is a big reason that some people use it. I like the forum topics. I also like being able to toy around with my profile.

Becomming a premium member has helped with my clicking O.C.D. Now I have nifty new things to click on! So many wonderful clickey toys! Thanks Vampire Rave.. for helping my O.C.D...

Meh...it's not really addictive to me. It's just kind of...there. But, maybe it's because most people don't really say anything when they rate, they just say "nice profile" or something, probably just want to up their status...and the fact that I'm hardly even acknowledged on the forums...and the polls are questions I've already answered many times before...meh. Maybe it's just me. *shrugs*

I'd have to say it is the people! I have met some really awesome people on here! Mom, your up there on the list!

Other than that I love reading poems by others and viewing their art! So AMAZING!

I found this site by mistake (thanks to Darklight)... but, it was a great mistake! I thought I was one of the few weird people who had a passion for vampires and other dark and occult things! I was wrong...

The Status System is also addicting... I like moving up!

I don't need to be here more than 8 hrs/day and it's really not a problem to me to not post a message for almost full hour, I mean why should I post a message when I can rate profiles and portfolios and VR is not my home page because I'm addicted, no not at all, I can unregister anytime I want, but I just don't want to...


And yeah, Cancer, I recognized you! You're that Cancer man from the X-Files, but detective Molder was on your track, but you changed your identity and came to hide here! But you made a mistake, you started to deny everything, again! And VR is another great conspiracy!

i believe the reasons could go on for a long time. everyone has different thoughts. though alot of us do agree on what eachother say too.

This place is absolutely incredible. It's like my home away from home online - it gets me out of my head to meet some of the people; especially when I read some of the journals or profiles. It's fun to post in the forums and rate people and is (usually) a pleasant surprise when you receieve messages.

I think it's because the vamps on here are so friendly and they are always willing to chat...
oh and because the forum usually has really cool things to talk about especially the bars...

Another thing is, for me anyway, you have got to find out what changes have been made, what is happening next, and just plain curiousity.
