how is it possible to tell the difference between good and bad, just and evil?
For there to be good and evil in the first place there needs to be a confliction of interests.
Both sides think they are the right/good side fighting the wrong/evil side.
How is it ever possible to tell who is indeed fighting the good fight?
generally you have to ask the people who don't care...
for example, lets take spiderman and doctor octopus... take a neutral person who doesn't care about eitherside, weigh up their views and what they are fighting for... then decide.
yeah, but in the end can either side really be right or wrong if what both sides think they are doing is just?
in the case of spiderman and doc-ock it is clear who everyone would back (assuming they were real and such)
in real cases. lets take two religious people in an arguement stating different things. they both want to do different things and cannot decide. you would have to get a neutral person to look at their situation and decide for them.
it's an odd situation. and if any one side has power, they can influence others to their view.
sometimes "good" prevails... sometimes "bad" wins.
it's just all about beliefs. which are probably the human races major problem. as they've caused everything from kids on chat rooms flaming each other. to world wars.
it's mad. but i don't think anything can really be done
the fact that nothing can be done is what makes it all so pathetic, and in most cases people fight over nothing, its just frustrating.
There is no real definition of good and evil when it comes to humanity and sides. Each side thinks that they are the correct ones. When actually both are wrong. Look at the war for example. We think we are in the right. And what Iraq did thought that they were right. They were trying to destroy their enemies... But neither one is fully in the right..
It really doesn't matter...just sit back and let other people worry about it. It's better to just be on no side at all.
I will not tell you that good and evil exist, I can only tell you that the world is ignorant and from there you will have to make a choice.
yes it really is a matter of perspective and intuition....
many people do things they know are wrong.....but the reasons they are doing them may be valid
everyone has a reason for doing something, but not everyone considers what their actions might do in the long run.
I aggree is there is no such thing as good and evil, just strong and weak, in this society whoever wins is right.
I really think there is a good and evil?
What really constitutes good?
What constitutes evil?
No one really knows the answer to the question.
Im not really worried about the good and the evil, Im worried about the crazy people stuck in the middle not able to arrive or decide on one or the other.........oh the damage they do.
good point.
i give up trying to understand human nature there are too many uneplained anomolies.
thats a good point bout how they might think there cause is just.
i suppose it comes down to law aswell, if someone breaks a law for whatever just cause, they are considered the evil party.
but i dont really know, there are to many variables and such.
sometimes evil can act to be good, but evil will always be inside of them
and sometimes good wants to be evil, to fit in or something else, but inside they will always be good
sooner or later, their truth inside will break and everyone will be shocked....it will be a big discovery
everyone is capable of evil, but we simply choose not to embrace the 'forbidden feelings'.
I also believe everyone, even the most evil of people has good in them, it can just be buried very very deep.
is this not what the apple from the tree signifies?
the acceptance of self determined action through a concious awareness of the results.
Umm my good side is when I say, kiss my shamrock.. my bad side is when I say, Eat my shamrock. Either way I enjoy both *snickers*
LMAO @ Emmy... tee hee ... I've heard 'em both .. >;^} J/K
I think the issue of good/bad, ugly/pretty ... what ever you want to call it is indicative of a persons thoughts, feelings, beliefs, up-bringing, opinion ... what is good or pretty to one may not be for another ... this is the age old issue in all of us .. is there truly a "right" or "wrong" answer to this question ???? >;^}
easy answer. there is no such thing as good or evil its just all in our perspective. like we meat eaters think hey eating meat is good and vegans are like the atrocity. good and bad exist only in what you make of it. we decided good and evil
:). well society seems to determine it like on a concensus but in reality there is no such things. and A so called "evil" charactor i love is MR> freeze from batman for hes doing all these so called evil things for love and doens't that make him good?
in other words if you feel hurt by the end result or it causes pain it takes away from ur happiness then its not
That's a great question LeSang, but I don't think that there IS a good and an evil. Well, a definite definition anyway.
its all in ur head u have to trust them then u will know
would somebody please come by my place my sentiments on this topic/thread -thats what its all about; starting from my portfolio (textwise) and going where it leads you. Its all about that discernment Good vs Bad
emmy...
is this taking into account that you still have that shamrock g-string on? ROFL
LOL, Deity yes.... but did I ever tell you what happens to shamrocks, when one gets absolutely evil?!
I don't say 4 letter swear words in public LMAO o^O wiggle wiggle
I think good and evil are based on a few things. One is the person's up bringing. Two is how the person perceves it. One person can think one thing is totally evil. For example sex before marriage in some religions. Others think why wait its a piece of paper.
If a person was taught one thing wasn't evil throughout thier life.. and another person was. Then that would be a conflict in opinions. Therefore making each individual percieve it differently.
*note*
please excuse spelling errors... my mind is not fully functional
I agree Countess, as they say one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.
It's all in perception
Gorey and DarkAdmin seem to share my opinions, but fi you are looking for a personal basis, then you need to look into the society around you, and question your own morality... i.e. not much would be wrong if you where a nihilist :-)
Consider the philosopher Kant... can animals be evil? If so, do they have to pay for their crimes, or are they excused because their autonomy (exertion and existence of free will and capacity to make choices) is different to ours?
I would like to discuss this subject with you if you still haven't found a way to consider your question.
the only good things are the things i like.... hahahahah
I was reading this thread when I came up with a random... Well not quite... Hypothesis... That being... In order to do a 'good' deed to one you must do an 'evil' deed to another to at least some degree... Thus... Everything sort of cancels itself out... I would like to see this proven wrong... Any ideas?
I just realized that my last post was a little short sighted... For one... The reverse doesn't work as well... That is, every 'evil' deed will cause a 'good' deed'... Also... In order to answer this question you have to assume that you can distinguish between the two... Which, as was apparently decided, is not possible to any degree of significant accuracy...
if you have a time machine go back to the midevil times and ask a viking if hes good or evil.....then duck bc hes going to swing an axe at your head and say that hes good and just in his actions......pretty much i'm saying the same thing thats been said already...everyone has their own prespectives
do you think human nature has anything to do with how we see good and evil,
how would you gefine human nature?
It all depends on your beliefs.A lot of people like to hurt others, that's good for them but not for the person who is being hurt.
As for the human nature, who knows?I don't think we'r born evil or good it all depends on what we are taught, our expiriences, our actions, our perpectives etc...
Really you can't tell the difference between good and evil because everyone has a different definition of it.
true, humans werent made with a sense of good and bad included, shame.
You need one to appreciate the other...one cannot be punished for being 'evil' or 'bad' if they do not have a guilty mind...no matter what is done to you or what you are prevented from doing...because you will always feel right and correct and therefore never be sorry for your actions....so it is all relative to each individual..there are commonly held beliefs of course of what is wrong and what is right...and most adhere to that...YAY!!!....LOL
I say weigh up the pro's and con's of each action and usually you won't go far wrong...oh and dont shit on your own doorstep..that is NEVER!!! good....LOL
Neither is right or wrong.
That's what makes choices so great. People are always are on the wrong side. Eveyone. One way or another about something.
He's evil but I'm evil and she's evil.
He's good but I'm good and she's good.
What if there was somone who just got rid of everyone then there would be no conflict at any given chance?
What then?
Shall he be rid of thy self.
hmm i think you just choose whichever side does not conflict with your beliefs and values
there's no clear cut difference between good and evil. most people seem to pick the gray area in between the two
In addition:still am sure people are more attracted to evil. It's not my opinion it's a fact.Just look at the world around you and you'll know am right. All you can see is wars,criminals,rapes,homocides...this is not something I believe it's bad but it is something that everyone knows it's bad.Yet still people know and like to do it, cause being kind hearted it's not cool so yeah better be a pussy and hurt others than helping people. It's not my opinion it's a fact.
My opinion seems to match a few others.
Good/Evil and Right/Wrong is subjective. And being right doesnt always mean you are doing a good thing. Just like being wrong doesnt mean you are doing an evil thing.
Boondock Saints - perfect example of this. Killing 'evil' men. Actions are 'wrong' themselves, but the outcome is 'good'. One of my favorite movies.
The ends dont always justify the means, well they usually do, but only for those that are doing the action to get to the end. Especially if they are doing an 'evil' thing.
sorry to double post, but I wanted to explain myself more on the last part of my last post.
People who are committing 'evil' deeds will at times use "the ends justify the means" to cover thier ass. At times the ends do justify it, but its still a cover up.
*snickers at Miz* better now?
Bah! When you commit crime, only evil succeeds; the end never justifies the means.
So if a mans family is starving and he steals a loaf of bread, those ends do not justify the means?
Again evil is subjective. So the level of it can be as simple as that or like in Boondock saints, where they kill evil men to rid the word of them.
*smiles and kisses Miz on the cheek* no worries.. runt will always be good.
I dont think there's no good and bad, it is what you make it be...
psycovamp you must have a conscience! Everyone gets one.
This has me furioussoon we'll some kook talking about core and non-core evil.
Eivl is not a thing it is a state of mind. To tel if people are in an "evil" state of mind there actions will be unthoughtful. My 2cents neway
I beleive that good and evil are what people make it. Good and evil is different for everyone. One person may think something is justified but another person might think its outrageous. It all depends on the person or group of people.
hummmmm can't have one with out the other......humans were given a conscience and that for each lets you decide one from the other.........some humans cannot seperate the two and then you have goevil........xo lol
Good and evil, right and wrong are just points of view
It all depends on what you're fighting for and how you go about getting it that may appear good or bad to someone else
