have you heard that the government is gonna start having those like ... ohh i dont know what there called its like they pick a birthday and the people who have that birthday have to go to war.... i think its cause they arent getting enough people signing up but anyway what do you think of thar????

Its called, The Draft and legally you have to sign up for it when you turn 18.

I dont think theyre kicking too many people out right now. Im in the National Guard and theyre offering some unbelievable enlistment bonuses to prior service members. I re-enlisted at the beginning of the year and received a nice fat check...not to mention I really kinda missed it. You hafta do something really stupid to get kicked out right now. I dont even think positive drug tests will get you more than an article 15 now. (reduction in rank, forfeiture of pay and allowances and extra duty for 14 days) You pretty much have to take pictures of naked iraqi detainees or something equivelant in stupidity to get the "boot." The military is hurting for soldiers...bad. The reserves and guard are pretty much used up. My question is, if they do not re-instate the draft, how will the military maintain its manpower? Recruiting is at an all time low.

dont get me wrong...I dont foresee a draft in the very near future, but eventually it may happen. Unless the military comes up with an alternate solution to their recruiting problems.
I check out www.military.com on a regular basis, and if there were a draft even being tossed around congress, it would be newsworthy enough to be on that site, not to mention cnn and such.

the draft is already in effect and i was drafted. But it realy didnt bother me cause i was about to sign up anyway and war i just like tp use the guns

as far as i can remember the draft was only for males at the age of 18, a required thing.

There is not an active draft in effect, nor has there been since the Vietnam Disaster. Yes, every male over 18 has to file for Selective Service for the possibility of a draft, but there is no logical reason for a draft currently, and if they were to reinstate the draft, it would cause even more protesting then it did last time. The public's support of US military endeavors is at an all time low. Reinstating the draft would cause a pretty massive uprising. It's not going to happen any time soon.

i think that is crazy and some bullshit because they are too gettin tons of people to sign up. in my lil town of clinton, i know more and more people signin up. and one of the reasons that they aren't actually gettin the people is because they are turning them down. now i am speakin from expierence. they wouldnt take me because i have od. but my shirnk told them that it was ok for me to go but noooo i still couldnt. what kind of bull shit is that? i mean damn i was willin to help my fellow americans but then i get rejected for actually expierencing the troubles in life?

Actually tricky they are saying the military is over it's quota.I just got out not to long ago and that's what they were doing,kicking people out.Even though they're offering bonuses just remember there have been more guard and reserve sent to the war then actual military.......just something to chew on.

I think its time to put guns in Bushes kids hands and send them out to war and lets see how he likes it.

Yeah, a draft just doesn't seem likely to happen at this point. They're closing military bases all over the country, so it just doesn't make sense.

i dont think that there have been any new reports indicating that the draft is happening soon...

a bill would have to be passed...and hopefully we'd hear about it being on the floor *knocks on wood*

there have been rumors floating around for a while now though because the bush admin did make some adjustments to the draft laws and got the selective service board fully staffed (which it hadn't been since the vietnam war when the draft was implemented)

also, they've made a few changes to the regulations...now, being in college wont get you a deferment
there was also a rumor saying that women wouldnt be excluded from the draft...but it seems that that was just part of a bill which did NOT pass..so the draft is still male-specific for guys 18-26
