For all those 'Anarchists,' I'd like to say a little something. Anarchy is impossible. To live with no rules what so ever, is absolutly rediculous. By obaying the speed limit, that's following a rule. By listening to your parents or going to school, that's a rule too. But if you don't do any of these things, then you're living by your own rules? Isn't the point no rules?
I'd like to hear about Anarchy. Please, try and change my mind...
I can't recite the definition of anarchy but it isn't "obey no rules" . More like "obey you own rules and not those of others" ...
the definition from the webster dictionary is:
1) a : absence of government
b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
2) a : absence or denial of any authority or established order
b : absence of order : DISORDER
http://www.m-w.com
Yes, but obaying your own rules and not those of others is impossible. Everything in life has a rule. How can you be an Anarchist is your going 'against' what you 'believe in?'
MistressIsis got it right (or Websters!)
Anarchy isn't living without rules, it's living without essentially legal/governmental order.
Living without rules would be defined as 'chaos', not anarchy.
think id have to agree there u cant live with no rules
Thank you. At least some people understand what I'm getting at. It's impossible. Chaos is most definetly a better defined word for it.
=)
Exactly. A true anarchist is against the government and law, not rules generally.
I agree anarchy is impossible. Anarchy is something for rebelious teenage punks.
Anarchy is total chaos...think about those two words, it's redundant.
I'm very relieved so far. I really thought all those rebelious teenage punks would be trying to prove me wrong with their chaotic thoughts. Thank you all. =)
The only people I've seen or heard were seriously into anrachy was all the back in middle school. LoL
I think you have hit a touchy subject here, and the ones that believe in anarchy, will prevail in this instence, or even the people that just know what it really is, maybe you should actually do some research on something before you go and bash it?
i agree with beautiful nightmare, anarchy can never exist coz there will always be some sort of rules.
if it was possible though it would end in chaos and nothing would exist for long
Anarchy is not the absence of rules, it is the absence of organized government. It is not impossible! Quite the contrary, we are the only species on earth that has a governing body! All plants, animals, insects and other life forms live out their entire existence without being governed.
you cant live without rules but that doesnt mean you have to like them.
i like to do my own thing i dont like to be told what i can do or where i can go .for a country of the free we have to many laws that we can do without
I agree i never thought anarchy was very practical. A freind and I had this very same discussion at my old job.
Yeah, as an ideal it's fine, but an actual realisation? Not in this day and age.
You can believe in anarchy, but practical, it is not.
Once again, as stated so many times, Anarchy is simply the absence of government. Theoretically, anarchy can exist in multiple forms. Chaos is one of those. This would be the anarchy that would result if all governments were gone in the real world.
But anarchy does not mean chaos. True communism is also a form of anarchy. Ok. Stop now. Get the USSR, China, and any other nation on the planet that has called itself or been called communist. That is not true communism. That's more socialism then anything. True communism, as outlined in Marx's Communist Manifesto, is complete equality. Everyone puts forth what they are able, and recieves what they need to survive comfortably. It is a utopian society. But it only exists in theory. Humans cannot accept this plan. A doctor will not accept receiving the same "payment" as someone who shovels horse crap out of stables.
It's not like you can't break rules. We make rules and laws, but they get broken every day, usually with no consequences. Really, what would the difference be if we took away the rules and laws? The only thing that's really keeping people from breaking them is themselves. "Well, I was going to shoot that guy, but apparantly it's 'against the law' now. I guess I'll have to turn to a life of labor"
You'd have to some damn good moraled people for Anarchy to work. Everywhere you look there is always someone giving orders and such and such is the way of man, anarchy is a fools dream right up there with communism
the definition of anarchy is a society devoid of government because the people have enough respect for everyone that it isnt needed. that being said, great idea, but so was communism. on paper it works, in practice its fails horribly. yay humans
anarchy is without a government not without rules simple as that ...
ya it really has nothing to do with being against rules just against authourity in general so ther is no contridiction, and is very possible. Sorry Raven had to go with teh facts on this one, still love ya.
hmm.. anarchy is bisicly anit-authority :/ im prety sure they like making bombs and stuff like that 2.. and making bombs are pretty fun ^_^ and watching them explode is even a better site :P

I sapose im the man to clear things up for you all. Ther are maney diferint types of anarchy ther is anti government then thers the belife that chaos is the only way to be free then thers the anarchy that I belive in and thats beliving we all have a longe way to go tell we can call ourselve free, whell hear is a piece frome my profile that may help
My Real name is Jared
But
I gave myself the screen name anarchy101 not becuse I dont belive in ruels or anything like that, but bechuse the life we live is the chaous we thrive for (the great depression of our times is our lives). people ask me why mosh at concerts? why get in fights, dosint it hurt? and yes thats the point! Becaus i know somthing they dont know and thats the best way to controle yourself is to lose all controle every once and a while. You see pain is plessure to the point that you cant take it aney more. We thrive for pain becaus pain is a way to know that we are trulie alive. So we look for ways to feal pain moshing, fighting, geting tattos, and piercings nomater how you find it thats why! and people wounder why people fight and why we go to WAR! and why ther is racisam racisam is just a way to feal pain becaus our differintses give us a reason to fight, (and feal the pain we need). Thats why we cut ourselfs or fight or whatever think about it! rebelion is just a way to feal like a true person anarchy is fighting for what you belive in and taking the pain as it comes.
lol
A friend of mine who is punk says that Anarchy is not living in chaos but to have no goverment and to live together like a family and share things.Everyone is the same and there are no richies and poor people who have to obey and suffer because of them.
However lately there've been a lot of kids who make a fuss about anarchy. They just think it's a cool thing to disobey teachers and parents blah kids!
same here i agree with anarchy101 not cuz hes my good friend and were in the same band. but because his statement alone states how it really is to live.
plus if you still want information watch the movie slc punk.
I`ve given up on changing people`s minds. But Beautiful Nightmare,I have to
ask between the two slogans which would you pick:
1. How much freedom is too much.
2.How much freedom is not enough.
and I've already been told how violent
a world with no rules would be on your first knowledge.
Nothing's impossible, Unlikely perhaps but not impossible. How would we ever know if we never try ?
If you don't try, you've accepted yourself as a submissive type which means you are a slave to someone or something out there.
It's freedom that impossible, not anarchy.
Contradicted myself. I guess freedom is possible then... Who would of thought ?
So many of are right so far not much I can really say. But her is my view on anarchy. To me I think it is damn near impossible to exist in such a society with the morals and ways of people now days. Goverment is actually a good thing helps keep everything structured ofcourse so total chaos would not occur. While to some people meaning of anarchy is a sign of rebellion which has been many cases in history. Guess if there wasn't a corupt goverment then the need for anarchy or thoughts of rebellion wouldn't be needed. But aslong as there is a society with a goverment there shall be corupted officials holding office ami I correct? I apoligize for my small rant. So how many would agree? *smiles*
i really think that you never could live without sistem it will always be there. but you could go aroutd it. so think about it.
i think that there is no antysistem anarchy but if you will be a free soul person you are antisistem and free person. SO BE FREE!!!
This calls for the quote from my profile: "Chaos is law, and law is only chaos refined."
im gonna have to agree that SLC punk would be a good flick to watch about this topic. "I'm a poser" was a great line in the context of the movie.
look you don’t half to blow up buildings or protest to believe in anarchy its not just some fad for little punks (little dip shits bring true anarchists like me a bad name) its a way of life for some, I believe in the principals ok I agree its not truly feasible or even practical but its a dream worth fighting for who is with me?
i am a long time anarchist, over 15 years and still going.
but it is not about no rules and a free for all that most of you seem to think it is (that is immature anarchy)
but those of it that are for real and believe the core of it are mature about it. it is taking responisbility for what you do.
Yeah, the symbol for the Necronomicon looks pretty cool too, but do I think trying to summon Cthulhu is a good idea, or even possible? And hey, you know, swastikas look kinda nifty too! The biohazard symbol's neat too.... let's find a door marked with it and walk into the room!
"Nothing's impossible, Unlikely perhaps but not impossible. How would we ever know if we never try ?"
Try shoving a huge cinder block up your ass.
I call that impossible.
"come on admit it the symbol looks cool lol"
Yup. It looks cool, but it's just a fancy looking "A" with a circle. You can't prove Anarchishm by drawing it somewhere.
the reason why its drawn like that coz anyway u l0ok at it, it symbols an A, try it. and yer it is a pretty nice symbol :)
From,
Wink
Just seeing the symbol on a wall somewhere is proof that anarchy exists , at least in the minds of it's followers .
anarchy is to over throw moncharchs that dont do anything not living without rules come on we live in a soceity that needs rules with tthe amount of people that take advantage
Raven (Beautiful Nightmare) I couldn't have put it better myself.
TRUE anarchy, simply doesn't exist.
Clearly... There will always be come form of government because someone will always scoop up whatever power is dropped. Whiether it be a band of bikers terrorizing a town, a "lord of the flies" esque situation moght happen. And clearly, there was some kind of dictatorship involved within THAT structure.
Nature abhors a vacuum when it comes to power. Someone will ALWAYS suck it up. It's the way we were built: as herd animals.
i move not for anarchy but to have an intelligent, calculating, and honorable leader which we have yet to get
lmao! that person looked up the word in the dictionary! tis funny.....hmm.....but a good idea! idk...i'm bored.....
Anarchy is living without obeying the government, yes its like not obeying the speed limit, but still Anarchy isnt about not only obeying them but disagreeing with themThe perosn who looked it up in the dictionary kicks ass lol!
hmm. well, it's very much like marxism. in the context of the fact that it's a "nice" idea...but wouldnt work.
Anarchy is th idear that could never work.... with out rules the world would not work. today the whole anarcht thing have seem to turned in to some thing a companys sell to the mass 's. in order to be punk...
anarchy is just a political thing really...they just dont believe in government etc. its not that they dont follow rules or whatever u are trying to say...but i think u have the whole idea of anarchy wrong if thats what u think it is...
Let those who believe it believe it and those who don't go on with their lives.
"Anarchy, State and Utopia" Robert Nozick
take the time to read this book and you understand what is anarchy really :^)
now anarchie = free do you think all of you are free hahaha let me joke a little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we are all slave of the system !!
I will not define anarchy for those who seem not to grasp the idea after so many have tried to explain it so well. I would like to say that the idea seems nice, but I personally don't think we as a society will ever attain it.
u cant jus let people take charge of u.. n its juz not about government.. eg.. diks at sk0ol think there tuff.. u gonna let them say crap about u.. push u around? no u fight back. there usually scared of sum1 that fights back.. they think ur weaker than them.. i like Anarchy.. maybe some people dont think so.. maybe u do n3d rules.. but not from diks..

anarchry is a myth and they portray the symbol wrong also. for those who don't know the anarchy sign is actually historical indian sign and people use it for all the wrong things it is just like the swaztica people don't realize that it also is a symbol for native americans origanaly but hey i am not one to change minds find out for your self on the web
This reminds me of a marvellous thread about anticonfoprmaism. I lvoe it when people claim that they are anarchist anticonformists *giggles*
To live by your own rules can go in a a number foways, either being individual in your guidelines, and to have others conform to that, so their our group rules (a ridiculous minature form of societies strongholds and flaws) or being one and alone with yourself.
To live you must accept that you live in a shared world.
Danzig, I'm with you. Anarchy has been properly defined several times already, to no avail. It would be wonderful, but humans seem to desire a leader. We want others to make hard decisions for us, and therefore couldn't survive long without governance.
I would like to point out (again) to those who claim anarchy doesn't exist that we are THE ONLY LIFE FORM on earth that requires such intrusive governance. All plants and animals live by a few very basic rules and otherwise require no government whatsoever.
i dont believe in anarchy
i beleive i can pick which rules i decide to follow. everyone has a choice
but i think anarchy is a fuckin pipe dream
and if people really knew what the world would be like if anarchy truly came to past
they would look around and say"man, i think we really fucked up!"
-gothpunk starfighter12
Wene I was younger I thouthe that that it would be great if we had anarchy. But ow I have realise that it can´t be like that.
Why don't you think it can be like that? What makes people believe that we need governance?
im making an anarchy shirt ^_^ big pic of the symbol on my back for hallow3en with a hidden face mask on ^_^ if any of u's are in brisebane and c me its me ^_^

Maybe it could work in small comunnities, but even so, there's always a leader persinallity that tends to dominate. A very nice concept of freedom, once we come to think of it, but I don't think it can work for real. Some rules are made to makes us safe, from others and from ourselves.
You know, I have thought long and hard, read long and heard, even wrote plenty of my thoughts and ideas, about anarchy. It is not an easy term to discuss, unless you've read up on it. My two cents: It is definitely possible to live without government/law/rules, because people are born with a sense of morals, and if you were to follow these morals, along with *nearly* everyone else (some people really don't have morals and a sense of reprecussion,) then there would be an opportunity for a utopian community (used the term community loosely for lack of a better word.)
Of course, the assumption is that members of the anarchist community will be able to respect the property rights of other members of the community
Perhaps you should check out the Libertarian viewpoint
Anarchy simply put, is an idea that needs to be put to rest. When we as people see that an idea will never come to fruition, we abandon it and move on with some dignity. Anarchy by far is one of the most immature, selfish, fanciful things ever thought up. The greater good does not matter to them, and they do not look at things from other view points. Most of whom are angsty teens who think punk isnt dead. We need some order, even animals have their order. Everyone needs to grow up.
Have you ever read pieces from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau? They are two well educated individuals that were considered anarchists of their time. It wasn't the actual term of an anarchist, they were anti-statists, which are not as radical as anarchists, but still believe that there should be no government or laws ruling over someone. They held transcendentalist views, and you can see it in their writing. Hell, Thoreau even went as far as to make a sustainable place of living for him behind Emerson's house, because he wanted to be as far away from government as possible. You say that the idea of anarchy should be thrown away; no. People should be better educated on the subject, and it would seem a lot clearer than what it is now.
AnightsShadow....
thank you thank you thank you for saying what i have wanted to say for a very long time.
GO AND DO RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is no one lisstening to the voice of knowledge Anarchy is not the lack of RULES it is the lack of GOVERNMENT.
(I am defending this but that does not make me a teenage punk)
skellum:
Sorry but i have to corect you on that the swastica is a norse simble.......
you know what is funny people who buy anarchy shit like shirts shoes.. blah blah fucking blah... and they say they are anarchist.. They are accualy supporting the government by buying that shit.. So if you think you are a "TRUE" anarchist steal it dont buy it...
LMAO
My take on this is that you cannot view Anarchy at an individual level. Meaning that one cannot say that he lives in Anarchy just because he doesn't obey any rules or obeys only a few that he/she created. I think Anarchy is a social phenomenon that appears when a significant part of society no longer obeys a number of rules that guide how life should be conducted. The reason is either because they don't want to or because the rules no longer apply. I lived in Communism and in 1989 it was overthrown. All of a sudden all the people had no leaders, no rules, all the old law was considered something that all must get rid of. That was anarchy. People understanding the state of liberty as being able to do anything they want and usually that anything never turns up to be something constructive... Just my 2 cents on this...
Antieveryone
Exactly what is the greater good you mention? If people allow a government to throw that word around you could end up with a dictatorship. Do this for the greater good. Do that for the Greater Good. The Greater Good argument can be used to usher in tyranny. Tyranny leads to stagnation, then to a cleansing
I am tired of hearing about anarchy. It is not onlt childish and pathetic, but it can't exist. Not it can't work, but it can't exist. Even without formal government to lead the poeple, someone will be in control. Wether it be because he is the most powerful, or that he has cer5tain supplys. Someone will always be in control. The only way you can have anarchy, is if you are the last person on earth.
My point is that it is a selfish idea. People would get hurt, have you seen what people do when in a situation without control(order rather)? chaos breaks out. The public by the way is in no way shape of foarm ready for this, there is no denying that. We cannot put people on the honor system and expect their "morals" to keep things running smoothe. And it is not ever going to come to fruition, it has in my oppinion already went the way of the dodo....(extinct) more to the degree that the majority don't give two shits about anarchy, or rather ever letting it happen. And also I might add I meant "most" people that believe in this are angsty teens that want to rebel. Im sure some educated people believe in it.....Hitler wasnt a fool, yet look at the things he stood for. Are things really so bad that we need anarchy?...sorry not a world the vast majority would like to live in. I am speaking for the US when I say this.....you don't like it here?, go move to a 3rd world country, see how bad things can be. Can you not see the freedoms we are allowed? and no this does not mean im 100% happy with how things are run, but you cannot 100% satisfy everyone in every way.
Oh? what atrocitys now?.....enlighten us, what has "the man" done to you this time? all apologys that you cannot roll your joints legaly...(this by the way is to everyone for anarchy)...what is your god damn gripe? it is like people always think they deserve more when they already have so much. This is human nature though I suppose....yes the man is holding you down, must be so hard to breathe. *sigh*
For me, I would say that is all about conforming, you either follow others rules and live the life of the follower or choose your own path and become the leader.
I like to think that the rules are there more as guidelines to a more successful existence, they give you some kind of direction to the safer path.
I guess then you have to decide whether you want to live dangerously or not.
Trouble is fun, I choose to make my own rules, but absorb the law of the land too so that I make a more informed judgement on the things I do.
Anarchy is the lack of government. it is impossible to live without any rules. but it is possible to survive without a government. it would not be a great world without a government to keep everything in order but people would still live.
They would still live, but for how long? before other countrys see this as a weak spot to exploit??...what are we trying to get an anarchy world now...that is like asking for the world to join hands and live in harmony, not gona happen. Or before we see weakness in it ourselves and get greedy?? like now! we are given so much yet want more and want to overthrow...someone if not everyone will take advantage. And I might add that "conformity" is a relative term, who is to say what is conformity? we ALL fall under some kind of system, whether it be religious or superficial. Not everyone is able enough to be their own compleat leader, people are naive and it isnt easy for others.
omg LOL it was wasn't it haha I just looked at the date *falls over laughing*
I say we put this one to rest in peace-- especially since the thread creator is no longer registered, even.
