Ok, I’ve been talking about doing this thread for sometime… but the problem I had was, I wasn’t really certain why I wanted to ask the question.

First it came from my discussion with someone on VR- and I thought it was a very funny pick up line, “Hey you’ve got ‘strong blood’”… And I wanted to post this as a joke.

But the more I though about it, the more it became a real question.

What does strong blood mean and, why is it an important question?

I’ve realized that the phrase to me means physical/mental independence, strong character, integrity and the ability to make my own way. These have always been of the utmost importance to me and it really relates to why I love the vampire lore: strength, independence, supernatural and mystery. I want this as part of my life. Which is what has led my search for those that I choose to partner with. I want them to possess these same qualities, for the times when I am unable to do them for myself.

I think that all of us here are looking for something, and that part of this relates to vampire myth/beliefs and the importance of the blood within all of us.

So I ask the rest of this forum, what does the phrase “Strong Blood” mean to you, and why?

It could mean different things, as with the whole grey area that is life :-)

Genetically, strong blood is obvious. Certain characteristics and suchlike...

In terms of feeding, I think its a mixture of diet, state of mind about donating, and the persons "essance" that you can only really sence yourself.

The only thing that comes to mind is that you possess strong genetic traits - traits that are good, that is.

Other than that, I really have no clue.

For me it means internal strenght.

That's part of my point- when I started to think about this, it was only about the physical... but I think it's much more than that....

Does it mean anything to you beyond the physical? Again, while what I listed seems to be physical attributes- in really thinking about them, I am trying to pin point the mental/emotional/supernatural part of all of this.

So (not picking on you Echo) but since I know you and Gorey are couple- I assume that Gorey has attributes that you associate with strong blood, beyond just the physical and mundane, and that’s what I’m trying to ask… as I know it is different for all of us- yet so telling as to where we are in our individual paths that just happen to cross here at Vampire Rave… and no I’m not trying to go into destiny… LOL…

what comes to my mind when someone says "storng blood" is someone who can stand for what they are, not what everyone else is, and stick to it, through anything.
That, and that their bloodline will go on "forever" because its either that prue, or that powerful.

I believe that strong blood can be both physical and mental. It can be passed down through generations or be something all your own that ties in with your character, or who you may become. It, like many other things, can have many meanings and I suppose that the one that matters most is what strong blood means to you.

in my opinion, strong blood lies within the person themselves..if your weak and do not accept the person you are, then your blood wont be as string as someone who accepts themselves

personally. i look a tiny bit like my mum and not at all like my dad. i sometimes wonder where the extra information to make me came from.

i really liked what gothchick414 said about a strong bloodline. a bit like boromir and faramir in LOTR (good example as they had more nunemorian (sp?) blood in their bodies than all other gondorians)

Personally I think strong blood could be taken many ways. bloodlines and family trees is one of the most obvious.

But if a person really stands out, say you go to a party and they stand out, really draw attention without trying. that could be strong blood. an excess of a strong personality.

I'd like to make a random point. Bodybuilders... those that go over the top... they might look like they have strong blood physically, but if they get flu they nearly die... so you could say they have weak blood...

I think Gorey' personality... he's nature and his sensitivity for others don't just come from his personailty being formed ovr the past 20 years... i think it does have a lot to do with the person he "is."

In my language when they said for someone that is from strong blood means that he/she has a good bloodline and good genes. Is healthy and strong!

Gorey- your last random point was one I was hoping would be brought out. Weakness physically does not mean weakness of spirit. My grandfather had a dead kidney in him from the age 10 until he was 35 and they had the means to diagnose it. He considered himself weak in comparison to others because in some ways he was dying that entire time- yet he never stopped learning and always looked for the positive in those around him regardless of their (sometimes obvious) flaws. After they removed the dead kidney at age 35ish his health improved and he even went on to ride his bike over a hundred miles when he was 90. Yet by then everyone else he had compared himself to was dead.

Looking at vampire lore, isn't that part of the beauty, small seaming weak creatures (frail of frame, pale, unable to bear sunlight) with extraordinary strength that comes from...

Gothchick- I agree, and context does matter but part of what I’m trying to do here is see what we think about this statement besides just the physical- the metaphor of blood is very significant – to many people here on this site to freely admit bloodletting. I am truly asking this to see / discuss the part I think we all can sense, but don’t name because it is primal, emotional – difficult to put to words.

ZuberiUrbi- I agree with the idea that we ourselves can to some extent our “strengths” in this.

Echo it is hard to describe which is why I actually did this thread- I was hoping it could bring up some interesting discussions.

'Strong Blood' for me conjours a number of thoughts to my mind.

The first of which was the genetic heritage as has been mentioned, in terms of the fact that we exist in the now, means that we have the 'stongest' blood of any generation prior to our own (barring disease).

That led me to consider it in an existentialist light, whereby the genetic pattern that is in each of us is formed of a unique combination and so enables us to be defined as individuals.

Although, it is not the blood specifically which is used in our creation as beings, it is itself defined by the code which we inherit, so, the stronger your 'line' the more powerful is your blood.

It is now a generally accepted theory that blood contains and transfers nutrients and waste to and from the body in order to 'power' us, so, it appears that 'the blood is the life' literally.

The primary of these, which relates to the DNA is vitamin B12, a deficiency of which causes anemia ('weak' blood) and so, strong blood may be that which is rich in this vitamin and so leads back to genetic heritage.

strong blood, would that be like well bred? Or maybe like you said, integrity, pride, strength, honor, etc...

well as alot of people have said in here:) strong blood can mean different things..
either that a person has a strong character... or else..it can also mean that he desceneds from a high ranked society.. like when we say that you are blue blooded..or else..it can simply mean that the blood is pure...and rich..

a person's presence as in do they have a commanding essence about them.

To me "strong blood" brings to mind breeding. Any champions in the lineage? Any genetic abnormalities? Mental dissorders? Is the line worth continuing?

Strong blood, in my opinion, is a term to describe when the vamparic spirit is able to make it'self known well...

The stronger the spirit, the more vamparic the person.

Interesting thoughts Lillyrose, so would mind going more into that- do you think that the stronger a vampire's blood the more powerful s/he is or just the stronger tendencies toward vampirism?

Strong blood can mean a number of things, psychically, physically, taste wise, and smell. its all in your interpretation i suppose. I believe we all have strong blood though, most of us. it keeps up going and sustains out life when it is needed to be taken from our prey!

It depends on the person's will and their feelings towards being a vampire...

If a person is strong willed, they may fight the spirit and thus keep their natural tendisies under wraps... if the will is strong, but doesn't mind, then the vampire is strong..

Weak willed coupled with a strong spirt is a vampiric person, weak willed and agrees is an average vampire...

I should mention this is the more updated version of vampire, the psychic vampires, and the other such... not so much the traditinal bite and feed vampire..

Well its means strong emotions which run through your veins. Its a short post, but thats what Strong blood means to me.

Strong blood to me means that you exude a certain air about you, whether it is a mental exhuberance or a physical one.. it is something about you that makes you stand out as a strong individual.

strong blood...i dont know why,but that makes me think of peasants...some time ago noblemen would wed young peasant girls in order2"strenghten" the blood of theyr familly,or so i've read in some book a while ago...

strong blood -

has a sense of inner dependence on the blood of your veins and what type of blood you long for to me. i think its what i pick up on in someone when they are chosen you just need that blood like a blood lust.

i think it has to do with the power you have...

It is said in the druid faith that spiritual power is in the blood lines and to thin that blood line with infearor blood would result in loss of power in the later generations I think that should explain what you are looking for if not just message me and I will try to explain further.

to me, strong blood would refer to your physical and mental strength. someones persisance in all things in which they face opposition, be it love, work, religion or the like. strong blood is a characteristic of someone who knows who they are and is not afraid to stand up for themselves or others.

i think it used to mean in mid evil times that you came from a good familly..(ie noble) your blood was strong...because you ruled.

It all has to do with your bloodline. Your predecessor's greatness determines your blood strength.

Strong blood could have several different meanings. One, it is a reference to a person's moral strength. Two, a reference to a person's parentage. Third, it could refer to the purity of a person's heritage(for example, the use of the word mudblood in the Harry Potter books to refer to someone whose parents are not both wizards.
