Okay, since Jamie has already opened the flood gates with her thread on profanity, I figured it was high time i put my two cents worth in. I've been rating profiles alot lately, mainly to catch up on the newbies, see who's here, who has promise, and I've been noticing a trend in some of the profiles. It doesn't confine itself to the teenagers, either, so i'm wondering what the more long term members have to say...
I've been seeing alot of profiles that basically boil down to "I'm looking for women/men who are......*fill in the blanks*" Now, I have found a great many new friends whom I appreciate her on the Rave, but when did it become a dating site? Am I being overly sensitive, or did I misconstrue the mission of the site somewhere along the way?

It was always like this cause an on-line comunity is always used differently from different people.

Some are here for dating,some for friends,some for vampires etc...

In a way I find it a bit strange to put it as a dating site cause after all there are other dating comunities this site was supposed for learning about vampires :/ Still people do it.

I noticed this when I first joined.

A lot of people don't have time to input a profile there and then, so they put a basic description of themselves. keeping it simple. From there they could lay dormant for weeks before profile/account deletion.

But even so... some people just tend to use their profiles to advertise themselves. When their purpose is more than that

I've noticed that with many people ever since I joined the rave. Just because VR isn't a dating website doesn't mean people can't look or try I guess...I mean it's not a terrible idea, seems a lot of members here on this site are together in realtionships.

i will admit i found my new girlfriend on here like 2 days ago, but she found me. i was atfirst just looking for friends and to learn and find other vampires. but yes i do think that it is sortof wrong for a learning forum to be used as a love tool just to later be shot down when we get our fill.

Personally I think is the same with other websites, you know? I mean, hey. If you're here to talk to people, why not look for someone while you're at it? I mean, you might not think it 'till later.

It is not intended as a dating website.

That is what some of the sites like GothicMatch are for.

The main page lays out exactly what this site is intended to be.

But, as with anywhere, I have seen the many many profiles saying, "I am looking for a so and so," as if that is THAT person's exclusive purpose for coming here.

Well, I'm not looking for anyone if that's where you're getting at. I'm just here for chat and info. BUT, if something comes to that well, I AM human. lol

I did not come here looking. As a matter of fact it was the last thing I wanted. But If it weren't for VR I wouldn't have found who I did and I am greatful for it.

I don't think people should just come here to find someone, but people are gunna come here and still do it. I think thought once they start hangin out on the rave more, they'll see what this site's really about...this site is so addiciting.

In a large on line community where people with common interests are gathering it is very natural to try to create relationships! I don't have any problem about this!

Be warned: relationships that spawn from this site tend to result in children.

good very good- I thought maybe I was just being overly sensitive- I too came here specifically to get AWAY from some of the other sites that were "vampire" related, and turned out to be nothing more than glorified cyber meat markets-I wanted information and civilized, intelligent conversation...thankfully I found it here

im really glad you started this forum. it really makes people think and talk on personal experiance. i am with you on the fact that all sites that i have found like this are used for dating and it is sad that this one is taking on that trend but i don't think it is completely wrong to look for people with the same interests as yourself.

I find the whole dating thing that goes on rather amusing. I am not entirely sure of my own motives for remaining on this site, but I am not ashamed to admit that I have enjoyed my share of the eye candy contained herein. I would like to think of myself as a worthwhile contributor, and to that end I seek not for the sexpot wastrels.

I agree, Cyb=gnus- I want to think that everyone I have met here has contributed significantly to many segments on this site- the more people contribute, the better the site becomes- and I'm not averse to flirting shamelessly with people as well- I enjoy it as a form of introduction and conversation, but I do not want thisplace to be "just another dating site" because it is much more than that to alot of people-and thanks to everybody who has contributed to this thread- I thank you

Maybe some people just include that so you know more aobut what they like and dont like. However i know its not the case for everyone. I think that sometimes relationships happen after meeting people on here wiht similar intrest or situations, and after developing a wonderful friendship sometimes other things happen. I have developed a wonderful relationship thanks to the rave, however i came to this site with no intention of doing do. But without the rave i wouldnt have what i do now.

I'm not here for dating at all. I've got myself knotted to someone's heart already. You'll get the "I'm looking for a ...." everywhere you go though.

Oddly to say, I met my man online LMAO. It was on Yahoo! though. And we've been together for like 4 years.

well im new and im not using it as a dating site im already with someone who also has an account here

there really is a bad trend going on here wiht the people usign this as a site to hook up with anyone available they think is like them the whole point of the site is to share vampiric beliefs and ideas

I can see why people would like to use the site in this way, but they will get out of it what they put in. If someone posts two lines describing their age sex and particular fetish, then they are likely to attrack the same non-entities that troll boards looking for a fresh taste of the honey.

In comparison, those that put themselves, the essence of who they are, into their profile, they attract like minds- people with whom they may find a deeper connection than might ever have been possible otherwise, particularly in 'real life'.

i don't see anything wrong for ppl trying to find mates on this site...just as long as they don't flood someone with emails after u tell them ur not interested...

nothing wrong with it at all- but like stabb said- you get out what you put in...and if all you're after is someone to hook up with, there are PLENTY of places for that elsewhere-using this PRIMARILY as a hook up site is what I'm noticing

in my opinon any site you go to someone is trying took hook up with somebody. that is ok to a point. we are all here to read about what everybody has to say and give feed back.

well I hope that this never turns into a pure hook up site I come here for info friendship and good conversation smile that said I beleive anywhere where people go to meet others of like intrest you will have relateionships forming it is a natural progression of things grin

As long as everyone respects each other, there shouldn't be a problem with a VR dating module. Someone would just have to monitor it to make sure that no one is abusing it. If anyone is caught being a asshole they should aiutmatically be kicked out of VR.

i think what it comes down to some people, its a matter of finding a place that has more of the type of people one is attracted to..and what better way to find someone then to let those that are single and looking know that you are in the same boat...it makes the purpose of that particular person simple and strait forward.

People come here to find others that they have something in common with, and obviously the main interest here is vampires. If you can use it as a place to make friends, I dont guess theres anything wrong with making 'closer' friends either. Some people DO come looking for relationships, but not always. Sometimes you find things you're not looking for; speaking from experience here ;)

I too become irritated when someone just makes a profile saying they are a (insert random vulgarity here) looking for a hot partener with a biting and or eyeliner / black nailpolish fetish and so on... I find it degrading that some teens and adults would adverstise theirselves in such a manner.. Yes VR is a learning and teaching site... and of course when you are in such a community where people are allowed to interact, there is going to be some dating going on.. it's "human" nature... but I dont think this site's sole purpose should be for dating, or even seen that way. I know that I have been able to walk away with a buttload of info from being on this site... You learn something new everyday here hehehe, and I have also left little jewels of wisdom here and there.. and yes, I too have fallen victim to meeting alot of very interesting people and yes even romantically.... but that was not my sole reason for coming to this site and it shouldn't be anyone else's reason either.

With any website, especially a popular one that deals with something that can highly sexual/arousing to begin with is bound to have people looking for relationships. ALL of us came here for interaction, some more devoted to dating than others, but similar none the less.

Well I personally am not here for dating and I think largely the rave'll remain as it has been I don't see any harm in people using it for dating if they wish and are responsible enough to make good descisions on who to meet up with!

if they want a dating site they should pay the money to be on a dating site...VR is not a dating site though i did not intend on finding anyone here, and by fate destiny or whichever i found my the person who has been the greatest thing to happen to me should it be the intentions of finding someone here no but can i blame you for making a connection with someone, no if i did that it would make me a hypocrate...

we have to remember that most people find a mate in their "community" (a "community" is a group of individuals bound together by a common thread). Therefor it is no surprise that "love" could be found on an on-line community.

MoonMystic and I met online over 11 years ago and have been happily married for 7 years. I say love is where you find it.

Red Queen and others, for me I saw this site awhile ago and had booked marked it to get back to. since then i forgot about and after my 22 yr.old daughter told my husband and i that we should start a profile on my space. Well after that i joined the wiccan vamp. group were i saw vp. mentioned and remembered and started our profile here. for us its for making friends in all kinds of ways and also for the info. etc. for us i wrote about our lifestyle and what we do, because it is a part of who we are. I wont sit here and favor anyone willing to meet for a "love" like relationship off the net but I will say exercise caution when doing so, to those who wish to use our community to find what they are looking for.

i do not think that it is a dateing site i mean i know that i have not been here for a long time but i know that it is not a dateing site peolple are always lloking for other people ..... and if it is a part of them why should you make them change

Well, you know, it's going to happen when you get a lot of like minded, artistic, bohemians such as ourselves together. Ok, just getting people together will result the same. I like that aspect as well, though...except, when breakups and bizarre love triangles get out of hand and childish and spill into the rest of the community!

When i found VR and started looking at the site it intrigued me. I do see that a lot of people are on this site to find someone ov like interest. I have also found that their are a lot of people that if they did live around me i would have walked up to in a club because in Columbus GA ther are verry few people like us. If you arre hear to find a mate of sorts it does not bother me, but im not going to travle to you! Now on the other hand alot of people are on this site to have some fun and do not want anny advances so i think its up 2 persnal tast

I've been here since April, when it was still under 1000 members. It wasn't a dating site when I joined and I liked it that way. I found it as a place where I was just looking to make some new friends and enjoy myself. Plus the status system offered me a challenge.

As of recently, I've been coming across profiles that just give a physical description and nothing else. They state the breast size, penis size--maybe not so directly but it's still there. "Big boobs and blonde hair" was a recent one.

I don't want VR to turn into a dating site by any means. Vampire Rave is unique, with its small percentage of members growing slowly each day and the fact that it WASN'T a dating site.

I came here because of the intellectual conversations in the forums, the wonderful people, and the freedom from complete conformidy. The first two every other site lacks. I liked that.

Now I see the gothicmatch.com thing at the end of the User Menu and I feel disgusted.

The older members are losing dignity by those who just want to "fuck". Even the VR Girls Gone Wild is a little over the top. Maybe I'm just "old fashioned" but I prefer a site that sticks to friendship and let it possibly blossom from there than a direct unromantic approach to a love life.

well, it was a little different when we met on line. it was on a local BBS, there was no WWW back then.

i dont feel that vr should become a dating site i would rather hang out on this site and when i ask about a person it is so i could gain perspective on you as a person ant to tell the trouth i could care less what you look like i want to know about you so i can gain a point of vew on were you are coming from

Dating isnt a bad thing but this site shouldnt just be based on dating.

I haven't been a member of this site for very long, but I have no intention of using it for a dating service. I recently got out of a bad relationship. I was/am just looking for a place to meet new people who have the same interest that I do. People who I can be friends with and talk with. Meeting someone on the other side of the world is interesting. And yes I have noticed a lot of profiles that suggest they are looking for a mate or playmate, I just go on about my business. No need in messing things up. Just my thought.

I cant say as I came here looking for anything we'll be sides a place to post my writeing because it tends to be at times on the darker side of things. Some people may have noticed I tend to flit in, and out of here often times not saying much at all. I tend to only speek when spoken to, and I am moody so sometimes I don't reply to people at all. I have met on here some wonderfull people, and some I would have to say with wonderfull tallents. I did in my profile mention that I was single but in no way was it an intent to "get anyone" really I was just rambleing on about myself. No I do not think this place should be a hook up site, but as other people have stated it is a community thus inharently people with like interests will attract.

In a world that at times is a very crule place I say if you can find your self some real good friends keep them dear to you for these days I find it is hard to find any real people in this reality.

I think how the "dating" began was when Cancer implemented the ability to be able to send messages to other people on the site. In June, 2004 and a few months after there was no such facility, Vampire Rave was a research and database facility on everything Vampire, with a forum.

Personally I preferred it without a message system, as you had peace for research and developing it. Those interested in each other knew there was a facility in mIRC for them to met there as it was widely publised on site.

It is also interesting to read the responses to the VR a Dating Site thread which I started a short while back :)

I came here to learn about vampires and to make friends of similiar interest. There are some sweet people here and love making friends here. I feel if thousands of people gets together on a site and talks..real friendships can form and then feelings creep in. No avoiding that! But I always keep in mind for why I am really here and that is to learn of something I am very interested in.

I dont think its a dating site any more than it is a site for 5 year olds I admit I have found a guy on here that I am really into and would like to start a relationship with but I dont think I would call this palce a dating asite.

Why is it that mICR is no longer advertised here? I've only been there once and I noticed that only a lot of the older members to VR were in there. I found out through Yendor. Maybe it would be good to readvertise it here. Then the teenie boppers can go cyber there.

people just want to hook up or say they are dating someone or are looking for someone

They either bite constantly or send messages like "hey im 14 and single where do you live?"

As for the mission i think VR should have it own seperate forum for information and another for social posts
