I belive that gothism is a way of life, a lifestyle. Does ne one really think that to be gothic, you have wear all black or listen to a certain type of music?

I do wear all black, but I do this because it is my favorite color.

Personally,I don't do the "label" thing.Too easy to be put in a little box and catagorized.I am just me,live my life as I see fit,like what I like,don't like what I don't like.As far as "being gothic"I don't believe there should be a uniform of non conformist conformity.We all have stuff we tend to lean towards,there just happens to be many things labeled "gothic"that I happen to like.

I am uncertain if there are any requirements for being "Goth". I would assume that it is similar to being Selene. I do what I want, wear what I want, listen to what I want, ect., ect., ect.

Gothic is more a lifestyle...u dont have to be exactly like everyone else...u dont have to dress exactly like everyone else...just like everything else in life there are always choices...its up to the individual

Okie the G word "goth" means so much to different people. To little elitest pricks maybe your lol not goth if you dont listen to this or that.... some people listen to metal... some people listen to 80 new wave.... some people listen to rock.... some EBM.... "goth" is one hell of a big title for a very large group of people.

Some people say its dress, some people say its music... some people say its attatude....

For me a gothic person is a 'normal' person you see everyday.It can be your mum,your best friend whatever.It is a person who appriciates art,poetry,literature and everything non materialistic and honestly how many people are like this?

At the same time someone who makes a balance between happyness and sadness.I don't believe in the depression thing.I believe it's moreo n how you are ablt to accept both of them and to transform your negative emotions into something beautiful like poetry or art.A person who sees beauty in both light and darkness.Is individualistic and is not afraid to say her opinions.Is also attracted to things that other people are scared of like the paranormal.

Obvisiouly it depends on how you perceive it am not saying it has to be exactly like this cause people who are in this scene differ from each other like the rest.

I totally agree with Alilyanna. It`s a mindset. A way of looking at life and seeing those things no one else notices. It`s the fascination with paradox. Seeing beauty where others see only madness and horror.

Fucking stereo-types! So many people think that just because you wear black or look the part makes you a goth. Jeez I'd really hate to be in the 'teeny bopper' stereotype thingy..I'm not being mean or anything but i've been there when I was younger and that stereo-type fits then very well. They aren't themselve, their someone else or they try to be someone else, they wear the same cloths and talk the same....It's interesting because their like robots, lol they all look the same, act the same and well 'most' of them think we are some kind of satan worshiper...

first of all..gothic was the name of severl french/german tribes of warriors..the visi goths the austro goth..and the i think the philistines of the david and goleath story count as gothic

as such..it was a culture and a group..they where warriors they where mercenaries and they lived on the steppe...they survivved some of the worse conditions and endured endless hardships

water didnt exist to them and when it did it was in an ocasional river they crossed on their hounry...they would drink horse milk or even horse blood to survive..they were tough sons of guns

then the romans came..and they pretty much either conqoured all the gothic tribes...or whiped them out

only the austro and visigtohs survived and then they invaded rome in the fourth century..after that..their poeple and culture disapted.

the poeple now adays who call them selffs goth..be it the poeple dress up in blakc and act like the stero type or..what ever

really dont have any right to call themself gothic..as they are not..

goths died out..in the middle ages...their culture survived in churche desings..but their poeple where not gloomy emo type poeple

If I had to categorize myself, I would consider myself to be goth. I don't wear goth clothing or makeup, for me it's more like I have a related belief system.

so when you're in your 60's you'll still be wearing goth makeup and dressing in goth clothing? Or are you truly a goth and see no future for yourself at all. As all is meaningless anyway?

I think it's a way of life, how you think and how feel.
I dress in all black very often and i am called goth just because of it. But i wear all black because i think it suits me best.

Well, it`s impossible to really label someone; we have different facets... all people are paradoxical. There are some who say I`m Goth, others say that as I`m Wiccan I can`t be Goth, others think me a satanist, others think me a bookworm... it`s endless. Each person sees you in a different way and no matter what we say; we ALL label every1 else in one way or another. It`s human nature; that`s the way our thought process works (I actually studied this at college).

erm...Germz, if you're talking about Alaric's rebelion (the king of the Goths around 400 a.d.), it's easy to know why they rebell against the Roman Empire - they were treated like slaves -, and it wasen't a bunch of goths, and other barbarian tribes that braught the Roman Empire down...By that time, the Roman Empire was in a down-fall alredy, because it was devided, and the roman soldiers weren't getting payd anymore. The Empire was doomed from the moment it was devided...

To see what lables can do, just because I was dressed in black, and i usually do (i got used to it, I like it), once, this kid comes to me near my place, I was with my baby cousin and some of her friends, and out of nothing, she whispers to me : "I wanna be a saNtanic too, but don't tell anyone, ok?"....Since when am i saNtanic or ever stated that I was satanic, for that matter? It was the 1st time that the kid spoke to me!

Most think that when you belong to a certain scene or are in a group you get that label.

If you live life with you own ideas and way still people will label you with a certain label that has to do with a certain group.

I have friends of every type of music,race,sexual orintation,nationality and I can go on yet am still called goth cause of certain clothes and say I've a gothic behaviour 0_0.

So at the end we are all people so labells are just another part of life,or you accept it or you dwell on it.

If any of you had a clue to think about those things like, Where does the goth archetecture structure design come from it would be from the goths and their Church Structures. Yet so many of you are so willing to deny the existence of the "infalible." Don't label it as goth when you don't even know its roots. Gothic is just a stereotype (God! Do I even ditest them) It really has no 'real' meaning. But it does allow you to get a point, or view across easier and quicker. I feel that being "gothic" has nothing to do with whether or not you listen to certain music or dress a certain way, but how you treat people who don't necessarily have the same preferences you do. It's about embracing differences and everyone's ability to express themselves how they want. But a lot of it is NOT being afraid to express yourself, to step out of what society says you should wear or what you should listen to or how you vent artistically

Be the cliche, you end up "the cliche"... however, if you worry about being like the cliche you still end up the cliche. Clothes and music, outward apperances dont really say much about a person. And if someone judges or sums you up by that, then oh well for them. I wear black and like certain things, but I do not limit myself. Nor should anyone. Keep an open mind but stay true to what you like.

i think many of the stereotypes seem to overlap these days that it no longer makes a difference...dressing all in black could make u punk, emo, goth, vampire, wicca, and many other things....i think stereotypes just give reason for ppl to look down on others...eg punks look down on skaties...skaties look down on emos...emos look down on homies etc etc..in the end its up to the individual how they present themselves and should not be judged solely on their looks

I'll agree with other people when I say I don't like labels. I wear black, honestly, because the color makes me comfortable. People think I'm gothy like but I'm friendly outgoing, and I try to wear more than solid black.

I believe that "gothic" is no more than just another style. I like it but still is nothing more than a style. It will go & it will come just as everything else. Not many will agree, but that was the same thing they said when hippy's where at its best as well. It is basically indefinable, because "Goth" means different things to each follower. Many adopt unusual fashions in order to separate themselves from other youth

in my opinion, to be gothic doesn't mean only to follow a certain style of clothes or listen to certain music. to be gothic is something within you, something which reflects your way of thinking and dealing with things. in other words, to be truly gothic means to have also a gothic character.

'Goth' does not exist anymore. It was real in the 1600's but now it is a bunch of kids dressing in black clothes listening to Good Charlotte as they talk about how bad they think they're life is. Goth is non-existant.
