does anyone have any opinion on spirit animals? do we have to find them our selves or do the just come to us, i really believe that mine is a wolf or a dog but that only becuae i have this thing with them, i think i canunderstand them better than other animals.

I think there are such thing as spirit animals. I think that in a way, you have to find them yourself and that they will come to you. Let me explain, I think that you have to realize in your own way what that animal may be. And that if it's possible, that spirit animal will come to you, and you'll hold a connection with it that's nearly unexplainable.

I think both and I aslo think that they might change from time to another.

From what I know of it, It's something given to you by an elder member of the tribe...the Shaman I think...

yeah, spirit animals pretty much find you... you just have to wait. be patient. If you are atracted towards a certain animal(not that way) its because you were meant to be guarded and protected by them.

Mine is a wolf. I am Cherokee indian and still teach my children of the old ways. My great grand parents told me the story of the night I was born. They saw a wolf come from no where and howl the moment I was born.

Spirit animals are very real indeed. We usually have one or more that are with us for life. Then there are others that come to us when we need them.

If you want to find your own spirit animal/ animal totem here are some questions to ask yourself. They may help.

What animal fascinates you?

What was your favorite childhood animal? Is it the same as now?

What animals do you see the most? Are they common in your area?

Do you dream of a certain animal?

What animal do you fear?

These questions and others can give us insight to what animal totems are with us. Each animal has his/her own power/medicine to teach us.

Well, I had a puppy get run over when she was only 4-5 months old and my dogs sometimes just look back and fourth in the sky. I think they are watching her.... and sometimes I feel this wet nose touch my hand or leg, like she use to do, but there is nothing there to see.

When she died (I came home from school on a Friday and found she wasnt coming to me when I called her), I got worried but I thought it was nothing.

Found out she got run over... and for like 2 weeks everyday - I heard her bark. The 1st week, I thought It was really her because I had forgotten she died, but after that and I heard it, I got teary eyed.

Spirit animals are very real. I think the idea is that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Similar to your spirit animals, when you are ready to meet them, you will. Most of the work is usually up to you, though.

1st: what a huge dog
2nd : my spiritual animal is a crow with a white bright spot on his left wing always near my office

Yes I believe in them but I always thought that they chose you and that you most be open and willing to embrace the knowledge in which they can give before they appear to you. But that is just what I think, and I may be wrong.

spirit animals are not just native american the celts among other tribes in europe have the belive in animals that are guides almost all great heros had a spirit animal that helped them or was geas that forbade harming it in anyway

I do believe in animal totems. Most Witches refer to their cats..I am a Koala freak..and I refer to them as my totem. Native Americans have awesome totems. I read Clan of the Cave Bear..The mention of animal spirits were strong.

nifty i mean all these different ideas of anilmal spirits, i belive it might just be the snimal you feel most closly related to, likeme i treat all my pups as family even more so than regular people. in my understanding there are two ways to have an animal listen to you....out of fear which i absolutly hat seeing people do and then the way that i treat my pups and that is out of respect and the listen to me out of mutual respect, this is waht i believe.

Spirit animals are in the American Indian cultures as guides......., the also have a great deal to do with the naming of the children....., and they are known ot give their attributes to those named for them,,,,,,

You can meditate and speak to your totem animal if they want you to speak to them, or you could do pendentism.

(that is using a weight, tying it to an 8 inch string of some sort (for me, a chain) and using it to ask yes or no questions, yes being north and south, no being east to west, and large circles being you shouldnt know quite yet.... or taking that same pendent and string, on a peace of paper, list out "A B C D..." and ask questions it can answer through spelling. It's so awesome. My recomendment on the A B C D thing is to draw a circle in the center of the paper, and write A B C D E F G out spiralling outside of the circle, and holding the pendent to the circle, and asking it to let it swing where it so does desire)

.. or again, you can still do it the richious way and meditate, or almost die and hope they'll have a word with you then...

i have 2 animal spirits the spirit of my familiar who died after having her for 23 years.....a black calico cat and i have a raven who guides me

when my animals die i can still feel them here and i hopr ppl do not think im weird b/c of this.

my animals keep changing, but my original and most favorite one was a yellow corn snake, Ciz...but lately it flips between two different black panthers, Brandan and Drake...how I wish the latter would disappear...I think I want to be a corn snake again, because then it was easier for me to feel certain emotions about things; now it's hard to determine what I feel about anything at all...so yes, I believe strongly in spirit animals...

well being of native american ancestry I believe in spirit animas as I do in everything spirititual it is just the way of life.Everything around us is surrounded by spirits

sometimes it doesn't matter about the animal that you love, it's the animal whose qualities you possess most in life! However, I was lucky enough to have my favorite animal BE my original spirit guide! So know there is no we can say "I want my guide to be a ----" and have it come true, but there is a good chance it could very well be your favorite animal!

I believe very strongley about totem spirits I was at a pow wow and this old Indian told me that the wolf was my guide through life so I did some reading and thought about my life and I see he was right so if you just read about it you can find out what your animal spirit is very strong magic in totems

To tell you now, I DO know there is such a thing as a spirit animal. I have one, a griffin. It came to me as I was near death. It told me not to die and after I awoke I thought it was a dream, but throughout my life I've seen glimpses of it in the shadows or talked to it in my dreams. I kid you not. It watches over me. A friend of mine also has one. His came to him because it's the reincarnation of his father, but as a wolf with an earing in it's right ear that his father wore in actual life. His spirit animal talks to him outside of sleep. He has many of the conversations from old times when his father was still alive.
There are many others I know of that may have spirit animals, but my friend and I are the only one's who I can proudly say have proven to ourselves that the spirits ARE real.

I believe people do have spirit animals, although l believe that they are not what we think they are.
Other wise can you imagen how many people out there would be a wolf or a panther etc.

I belive that my spirit animal is my dog Bruno. He was born on the same day as me, he also protected me when i was taking him for a walk some years ago. I was taking him for a walk, it was about 6am in the winter and the sun had not yet risen. when this stray bull dog came bounding out of no-were and started growling at me, as soon as the bulldog jumped, my dog Bruno had it pinned on the floor. Bruno didn't harm the other dog because that was not his nature, but he was very protective of me. Unfortuantly last year he had to be put down, he was 15 which is a good age for a dog. I still feel like he is there watching over me.

It can happen either way. Usually when a person is ready, they'll seek out a spirit animal on their own. But if the spirit feels the person is taking too long, they'll seek the person out.

Well I know for a fact that spirit animals are real. Mine is a tiger that has eyes that are the deepest of green. He's got a face that tells of wisdom and courage not to mention the protectiveness around me. I never feel in danger when hes around. He always is but sometimes I forget to thank him for his kindness as a guide and a protector.

immortalkitty, it's not necessarily what we believe is our spirit animal, it's the traits of what animal we have...my g/f is a black panther, and my ex b/f is a wolf...both of them have the qualities of their respective animals in their personalities...I know it seems like people would just choose an animal to be theirs, but they find ones that are truly descriptive of them...

Sure, there may be a lot of panther and wolf people, but maybe that's because those really are their animals...?
Sorry, I like to talk about spirit animals...big part of my life...and I was just stating a hopefully non insulting opinion...

I think that once again it is mental, and if something can be used to focus your ideas, then its a good thing... however, I don't believe in it in the spiritual sence.

I did the power animal meditation once, and I found a small purple dragon :-P

If you want to know your spirit totem animal all you need to do is ask. When you go to bed at night before going to sleep say out loud, "I will meet my spirit animal totem tonight". Then when you dream you will see your spirit animal totem reveal itself to you. If he speaks to you listen very carefully and when you wake up write down what it has told you.

If you go to my portfolio you will see my medicine bag with my spirit totem animal the horse and a description of what the horse means. I asked mine to come to me in my dream, which he did and spoke to me. He is beside me when I journey or do soul retrievals....I would not do them without him present.

That is what I think...

They will come with you both ways. Then it is up to you to discover why the ones come to you that do and accecpt what they offer you.

The real question that I always wanted to ask is; "Can you hunt the Spirit animals down and eat them?" hehe. jk - honest.

Spirit/ Power Animal will always come to you. If you need to meet another kind of animal, you will be sent there to meet them. Remember that these animals are Spirit guides. They take form as an animal for your learning. Because you are in or at a certain level of learning. They change only because you change.

i guess you just have to think really hard about it! if thats the case maybe they show up in dreams because you think about it too much, and when you decide to follow there instructions you could be wasting your time. unless i got the wrong end of the stick lol
