The Origins of the Vampire, a topic touched upon mainly in the how and when, but I am now wondering Where......Any thoughts?

Many ancient cultures,possibly going back to the Neanderthal,left food & items that the deceased would need on his journey to the land of the dead.
The Egyptians & others did this in "more recent times" after the Neanderthal.
Some cultures continued to leave food at the burial place for the deceased.
Belief had it that to fail to leave food for the deceased would anger the dead person & they'd return to either remind oer punish the person or people responsible for feeding them.
This belief later evolved into the belief in vampires,who would take revenge upon the negligent caretaker of their after life by killing that person.
After that,this revenge became a "contagion",a person who is killed by one of these "avenging spirits" would,themself become one of these spirits.
Also,our species has known for an extremely long time that the blood is the life.
So,"marry" the one belief with the other & the belief in vampirism is born.

That is a hard one to say, there are many who think that the first master Vampire was actually a Priest who was the first Master vampire, some say Vlhad was who really know.

Then you have them whom do not even believe in them or that the movies and Hollywood in general blow it all out of perpective and make it up as they go.
Again a question that can be debated on so many levels. I wish I did know for sure if there is a master Vampire out there......

i don't know about geographical but i all started in our thoughts and our fears it took a outward form when we stoped fearing it and stared embraceing it thats where i thing it started anyway

that really is a hard subject for even us vampyres ask that question from time to time. being a vampyre myself, i would like to know when this curse started for if it were not for this curse i would not be here, living and reliving for centuries.

Ok.. I am going to to kick off here..This will be long but it shall be very informative..

Vamprism was started in Sumar.. outside of palastine.This is the furthest date of record.But in these dates,It speaks of them as a people.. a family.. that they have been there for a while.The sumarian tablets date to 3663 BC.Over ten thousand years before the first book of the Christian bible was written.(which was argonet.. not genisises I know i have staryed from the subject but only kinda.. bear with me.
In 4200BC the astroid belt we know of to this day was two planets called Daeno and Gunert.. Proven studies show that they where once habitable..These two planets collided So in retrospect.Vampyres came from another planet before dwelling in sumar.. Which is also ancient greek for another.. Whelsh.. without the vowels of course means from away...

First the first books of the Bible were written around 4-5,000 years ago. So your dating is WAY off. Second the only planet that has ever been inhabitied in this Solar System is Earth, and only a 30 or so % chance of Mars.
Vampyres go back well beyond Vhlad and modern histories.
Vampyres have existed as long as humans have. The actually ages have been erased from memory.
Lets please use common sense when discussing Vampyres and a bit of logic please. Just my opinion.

realisticly speaking, would not the origins of vampires have started with the original myths which date back to cavemen days?

Some say Vlad the Impaler was the first, yet others say Adam's first wife, Lilith became tainted by his rejection of her and became the first vampire.

My mistake was one the ten thousand years ago.. .. The first first book of the bible was writen in 1600Bc.. it is a proven fact,i meant 2 to three thousand years before that.. As for a bit more information on the location of the first Vampyres, some African legends talk about blood sucking creatures. As far as stories and myths about Vampyres they do indeed go to the time of the Neanderthals.

my guess would be somewhere in eastern europe as on old wifes tale to scare the children, or maybe not! just a guess.

many oragins have been explored. romania, america, england, scotland, russia. so many countries and yet, very few tells the tale of history.
sure we can have the where and the who, and now there is the how,,,but what about the why?
Most vampire enthusist will tell you that, dracula was not born immortal, but instead cursed or enturnity, to be immortal, so as a result nothing could kill him, not even god, and so he hated god, and over time, the hatred grew and became more obsolete, in the modern world, a vampire hates mortals for theyre inaptness to be proper. they do not like that they have cares to care about, they believe that mortals no longer take passions in theyre life to their deaths. I guess that is just my expressed theory on how, maybe.

I'm gonna have to go with the Garden of Eden/middle east. Going back to the previous thread of E. vs I.D. I think that humans were always blood drinkers and psyvamps. People who are not energy manipulators are crippled; and drinking blood is a safe sustinance source withou killing your food supply (ie when humans talked with animals / did not kill them in the garden of eden) or if hunters needed an energy source to go hunting, or to stay warm... et al.

The other possibility would be the cradle of humanity... africa; but I personally believe that africa is not really the cradle... it might be, but I think that the middle east is more likely.

Just as every culture often contains mythology on a flood or great catastrophy sent by angry gods to wipe out mankind, so almost every culture has mythology that encompasses the dead returning to feed on the living. I don't believe that you can say a particular area created the original myth because I don't believe that one myth is the original for all the others.

The global scale of vampire mythology does not appear to be an evolution of myth with one myth changing little by little as it moved with the evolution of civilization. Rather, it seems that most cultures simply created or recorded their own vampire beliefs at the same time or without influence from neighboring vampire beliefs. As well, some cultures, completely cut off from other cultures, were able to come to similar myth or belief. Aztecs were not believed to be familiar with Sumarians but both had 'vampiric' mythology. Likewise, Native Americans had their vampiric mythology long before Europeans came along.

Each culture seems to have it's own birth of vampire myth and therefore, no culture can seem to claim the origin of belief.

Seems we have a lot of Eurocentric opinions on what a vampire is. The idea that Romania and more specifically Vlad Dracul is the origin of the vampire is to discount countless histories in countless cultures like the Babylonian "Lilu" or Hindu "Vetalas".

If one was to take the line of evolutionary theory, then being that it's all supposed to have begun in the Nile Valley, I'd have to go with Egypt, but then, this assumes that Vampyres did not evolve as a seperate humanoid species.

And also, without a specific timeframe in which to base vampyre beginnings, we can't nail it to the same timeline as homo-erectus.

I'd also have to take a look at mountainous areas, since sea levels would have been much higher at various times in history, narrowing the range some. This could also leave Antartica as a possible place of origin, which has not previously been considered from what I've read so far.

Stabb - busting out with Antartica...that's a favorite theory i've read on pre-historic cultures and civilizations. There's accurate maps that exist today that show the continent before it was covered in ice...those maps are hundreds of years old and were said to be based on maps made in that earlier 'ice-free' time (since no one had discovered Antartica in the 1400's).

However, vampire myths are so varied in their style form that some may have been created individually at similar times on different continents. If the world was re-populated or re-civilized by 'gods' from an earlier Antartic civilization, it would at least explain why the myth is on continents that didn't have contact with each other...the differences then simply from different 'teachers' to different cultures.

The snow in the Antarctic would be really tough on beings not particularly fond of the sun. That would not be a place for such creatures to evolve. I am going to go with the evolution theory however where it would be naturally applicable. Wherever the greatest food supply is- that means alongside humans everywhere.

Anyway, even if there was an ancient culture there, what I'm saying is that the vampires would evolve right alongside humanity, wherever it occured.

That is a very interesting question and one which I dont believe will be easily answered because the common misconceptions of vampires today has blown everything out of perspective and has even blown the truths about vampires away. So this question will be very hard to find an honest and true answer to

as far a the theory of polar ice caps of antartica, it is know that once upon time they were green with grass and life. so it is very possible for the origiin to began there. but I think that the theory of the origin of vampires has to go back way before homo-erectus. and there are wiritings that come before mesopotamia. they are not all understand and many cannot be translated.

But I would have to say that the origins or vampires probably predate most of what has been stated.
