Ok, so I've tried over and over and over again to explain to my guy what I am. (I'm a Psy and Empath Vampyre) He doesn't believe that people have prana, chi or anything like it. So when I try to explain a situation I get told I'm nuts. He's closed minded to anything and everything. It's not like we're dating I'm married to him, So it's not like I can just dump him.

Any discussions come down to me having no concept of "real life". It's not like I walk around clothed in black with plastic 99 cent fangs in all day only leaving the house at night. I'm perfectly stable mentally and emotionally and yeah I know this for a fact.

So at this point I'm tired of fighting anyone have any advice about dealing with a spouse who questions your sanity? Any other idea's how I can explain this to him? I've given him books like the codex by bellinger to read and that only seemed to make things worse.

I have found that trying to explane make matters worse as you have found out, what i tend to do is not discuss anything until they make the discussion, which is really hard since at times you want you closest to understand everything about you why when certain engeries flow your way you react differently and when your tired, it's not physically or mentall exhustion it's something else...

I wish you luck, but the best i can suggest is wait until he approaches the subject......

I agree with soullile- my ex had the same kind of attitude- thankfully (although we divorced for other reasons) I now have a husband who not only understands, but opens the discussions, and had the same attitude I do-
just let it go, find someone here or in your town who feels the same way, a good friend, and discuss it with them- unless he brings it up, just let it alone for now, or you will only continue to fight-

He doesn't approach the topic unless it's to mention he saw or read something then to bring it up in a negative way. Instead if I react even slightly to the way I'm feeling something is suddenly wrong with me. We've been together for a long time and the longer the harder it becomes.

A friend talks about paganism and he goes off belittling them. It's hard to ignore your husband without it taking a toll on you. You have to be able to talk to them but I can't. You always hope that the person you love the most won't judge you but when they do, and you come up without an answer they want it's really hard to overcome.

I would just tell him simply, that your beliefs are yours, as his are his. It sounds like you'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Tell him you don't think he's crazy for liking*and find something completely, indisputably logical* although you may not like it. Maybe he'll see if you use that comparison.

He does feel alot of what i do.. after affects... long story about that ( i dont kiss and tell)... BUt I will say that he does fill my appetite.

If your husband is closed to you on this matter.. Dont force it upon him.. do what you must but dont let it ruin your marriage.

Words of wisdom. Thank you.

I appriciate all the support. I'll try and not talk about it but we'll see how long it lasts. Sometimes I think he just likes to pick fights and he knows my beliefes are an easy target so I get emotional and defensive about them easily. (Yeah I know I shouldn't) but when you come under attack from a loved one not making a point just doing generalized bashing it's easy to let emotion run free.

In a marriage, as in any relationship, we have to accept the other person for who or what they are. You are not crazy and he should accept that. What if he believed in UFO's like you believe in vampirism?

While it would be nice to have a significant other who accepted all aspects of us, that is only going to happen in a perfect world - and this isn't a Walgreen's commercial.

If your SO isn't accepting, I would recommend not talking to them about it any longer. You can only have so many conversations about it before you get annoyed because they don't believe you and they start to get concerned that perhaps they're dating a crazy.

If the only roadblock is a lack of understanding of how energy works, perhaps some literature on that first? Maybe something regarding chakras? Get the other person to understand exactly what it is you're lacking and perhaps THEN you'll get them to understand what it is you do to make up for it...

Perhaps not, though.

People are brought up in different ways, if hes not been around the "culture" and is not interested with supernatural paranormal. It would be like trying to get an atheist to acknowlegde God. That isn't their belief, that is not who they are, you have to respect that. You are your own person as is he. I think all you can ask is that he respect you about who you are.

I sincerely think that no one has the right to doubt of your mental sanity or call you crazy...or nuts... because of the things you believe or you feel as true... call it religion or simply faith or whatever...
It's better for you not to expose yourself to that... he's your husband, but he's not understanding you...

interesting - you say you cant just dump him because you are married. you didnt say that you deeply love him.

unless you are devoutly religious, a marriage is not final and set in stone. people can make mistakes, and sometimes we rush into things (like marriage) without giving it proper thought.

i may be speaking out of turn - but he does not seem to respect your beliefs, and therefore does not respect you and who you are.

do you belittle something he feels passionate about? what would his reaction be if you did?

are you going to let him crush your spirit, and destroy your dreams? or is this something that will rankle and become a constant source of irritation, until you become a bitter couple who stay together yet hate each other?

the feminist inside me says "dump his sorry ass"

It could also be fear as well as a lack of knowledge. This is something new for him, but its also a big part of who you are, you can't really love someone in halves can you? You have to think about how important this is to you and explain it to him, and how you feel when he laughs it off. You could also compare it to something hes interested in etc; As i said people are different, there will be aspects of people that clash. Beliefs and opinions are very hard to change.

You're right. Perhaps I should just not bring it up at all. He will when he wants to twist the proverbial knife wile in a spat but while bring it up. At the same time I feel like it's keeping secrets and hiding something, which doesn't seem right. It also makes me feel like I'm ignoring a problem in hopes that it will go away.

Hmmm.... things to consider. I was awakened before we ever went down the isle, it didn't seem like an issue then but I guess people change. As for talking to a professional I don't see that as going well. "My wife thinks she's a creature of the night and I think she needs to get a grip on reality and grow-up. Would you recommend drugs or a strait jacket for that? Perhaps Both?" Sorry Sarcasim is a friend of mine. I think normal circumstances counciling would work.

Does anyone else go through this? If you don't talkabout it do you feel like your living your life (who you really are) in secret? I'm all for discreation but if you can't be comfortable at home then where?

respect for your partner's beliefs is essential. he doesn't have to agree, but it does sound like he does not respect you, and uses your beliefs as a weapon against you.

when i consider a relationship, i consider compatibility and a respect for my beliefs and who i am to be vital. if it isnt there, then there is no future in the relationship - and that's the end of it.

perhaps you should make him aware of how it makes you feel when he disrespects you. i don't think this is something you should hide inside and pretend isnt a problem - it is something that should be met head on. let him know "this is me, it's who i am - live with it."

i have met women who find me interesting and exciting at first, but then decide it is just too wierd for them too really accept. if that is their attitude, then they are not right for me.

this is your life, it's who you are.

MahKat, maybe you should just grasp on the concept that people are different and believe in different things.

You can never really force your beliefs on anyone else. Just accept each other, that is if you're mature enough to accept that your husband has a different idea ( maybe even no idea on the subject ) and him vise versa.

Stop talking about it the way you planned on doing.

Not to be hard on you but if that doesn't work and it's important to you enough that you guys keep arguing about it and it's eating you up - Maybe you could've got to know each other better before tying the knot.

I can't say I've ever sat there & thought is this person compatible with my religion/beliefs Karn, the reason for that is I think it makes the relationship more interesting having different ideas & beliefs as I enjoy discussing them.

He doesn't have to agree with you or believe in vampires, although I dont think he should make fun of you're beliefs, he should respect them & realise no matter how much he puts you down for them, you still wont change.

Personally I dont think it should be a problem...I know people from all types of different religious backgrounds & beliefs, & there married to people with the total opposite ideas/beliefs. In my opinion it keeps it interesting, discussing different ideas.

I agree with Chris sometimes you have to dish back to them what they give to you, to make them wake up to themselves. Try telling him how it feels when you belittles your beliefs and then belittle his for a while and scoff at his ideas. When he has a go at you just tell him now he knows how you feel when he does it to you. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and make someone wake up. Stop trying to explain when someone is that closed minded there is no getting through. Other than to mirror their behaviour. Next time you and your friends talk about paganism and he enters stop talking and wait until he leaves.

ALthough i agree with everyone on here, PLEASE be careful if you "mirror his behavoiur". i tried that once and it seriously backfired. Perhaps i took it too far because my then partner was SO closed minded. just feel for yourself how far you should go with it before saying now they lknow how it feels..... remember, two wrongs don't make a right....

When someone doesn't understand something, and is DETERMINED NOT to listen to your side of the case, then you are better off leaving it, as they never will.
However, the only other way to HELP THEM UNDERSTAND (fear of understanding is actually a big thing. he may not BE a bad person, just afraid!) is to SHOW them...
now... my suggestion is this...
IF HE WILL ALLOW you to prove your theory.....
Take him down to an eastern Accupuncturist. Get them to work with his Chi and Energy channels. or even an aurasoma therapist, or a Kinesiologist! There are several methods of unintrosive proof. He'll allow you to state your case if he truly loves you.
he may very well be enlightened!!!
And if he's not..... then fine.... just agree to disagree and you have seperate hobbies.

I'm sorry this is long winded, but a part of me has answered some of my OWN questions based on my previous experiences. I feel for you, and i don't want you affected like i was. I turned into a viscous monster with arrogance and unfortunately aggressive actions because i spent 3 years not being allowed to PROVE my innocence. I regret not backing out early in order to "clear my slate", and i fell, almost mortally.
I'm not going to lie. This message is also aimed at somebody very dear tome who may not still nderstand what happened to me, and i hope it is read and taken on board.

My apologies to anybody who is angered or confused by this thread. I mean no harm.

I myself am not a vampire (as a matter of fact, I can't stand the sight of blood --especially if it's my own), but I do understand where you are coming from.

As a Wiccan, many of my friends do not fully understand what it is I practice. I even have friends who adamantly believe that there is no such thing as magic, and that I am completely insane in calling myself a witch.

Some people have mentioned that you should wait until the subject is brought to you, rather than you bring up the subject yoruself, and this does work, though only 90% of the time. I've had friends bring up the subjects of Wicca and witchcraft with me, only to end up telling me that they think that I am nuts for believing any of it. Sometimes arguements cannot be avoided (especially with people who really, really want to argue), but all around, the best way I have found to deal with it is to agree to disagree. If they want to say I'm stupid or nuts for being who I am, or thinking I am who I am, as they believe it to be, then I don't go out of my way to change their minds. Being told I'm wrong, crazy, or stupid doesn't make me any of those things, and it doesn't make you any of those things, either.

My advice is that be who you are as soon as possible. The voice of experience is talking. I was married for almost 30 years and it is better to let your significant other where you are coming from. Trust me, you are preventing the inevitable. Tell the one you love how you feel.

to me it sounds like he is afraid and yes he would argue that point but most people will get mad or make fun of things they don't understand or are afraid of.

it is the base nature of all humans to meet what they do not understand with a sense of awe, fear, or hatred.

Sometimes combinations thereof.

maybe he is afraid because he doesnt understand - or maybe he is just showing his contempt for anything that doesn't fit into his "normal" red neck box of a life. either way, Mahkat should leave his sorry ass and find someone who loves and respects her. remember - stupid people tend to destroy what they fear and dont understand.

i hate it when you are with someone that doesn't understand or believe. I thought the whole thing about being married or in a relationship was for the two people to be together and accept one another for who they are and what they are and support them.

i think it is terribly sad that someone must hide who they are from the one person in the world they should be able to trust over all others. anyone who is living a lie, and must hide their true self from their spouse is married to the wrong person. when the rest of the world turns against you, there should be one person you can be sure will defend yo and stand by you. that's what love and devotion is all about.

I'd like to say off the top that I really don't like that he will insult people simply because his beliefs are different. My BF doesn't believe in half te "crap" I believe in, but he gives it respectful space. If I bring it up, he grins and talks about him worshipping magic sandwhiches. I've given up convincing him, as he has me, but we're at least polite about it to eachother, and certainly neither of us would belittle other people. Sounds like he needs to GET REAL himself.
I'm a registered Reikki practitioner, certified by a Reikki Master of Canada. It has a very prestigeous history and it WORKS. My BF has seen me heal, and still doesn't believe in it. Just closed minded about the whole thing. Can't make someone want to believe. All you can do is be respectful

Some people are just not into all this, and close themselves off from this part of the world that we live in. There is nothing wrong with him feeling the way he feels.

We can not control others, but only ourselves.

I am so sure it has been very frustrating to handle, and try to communicate to him more about your awakening. However, you need to just let it drop. Accept the unaccepted. ~NFA

I always try to let the person know first off of what I am, and what some consequences of being with me may be (i.e. unintentionally feeding off of them). However, it's always hard when your facing someone who just doesn't want to listen. All you can do is present that information out to them. Whether they chose to believe it or not is up to them. There is really nothing you can do to change a person's mind when they have set to believe what they believe.

The same questions I asked are being repeated. As it seems like there's no way of getting around it you should both respect the others beliefs and no9t make fun of them of course the way you claimed he does.

At the end of the day respect is the basis of every relationship.

Thank you .. all of you. To answer a few questions. Then I will probably close the thread in the near future.

Yes, He knew before we ever got married, heck he knew before we were engaged. Once engaged he had 2 years to bring it up.

He wasn't always closed minded. He used to go to Beltain with friends in the spring, used to read anything and everything he could get his hands on just to learn more and understand.

Then slowly and surely things started to change and he claims that he was always the way he is. It was little stuff at first. He didn't like going to my parents church when we would visit them because it wasn't catholic. Slowly the books started disappearing then things became very extreme to where we are now. I CAN'T even meditate without the snarky comments.

So yeah I'll let it go, and try to agree to disagree, but it's hard when I am active in a local community and he's under the impression I'm insane and need saving from myself. I guess the best I can hope for now is that in the process he doesn't become overly controlling. Well.... wish me luck.

I HAVE to put here that i FEEL that him saying you're in sane is actually quite hurtful.
if this guy LOVES you.. HE ought to allow you to grow and BE WHO you WANT TO BE.. Not belittle you and insult you.. That is making me feel like your relationship with him could me guiding towards misery.
I am sure it makes you fel Damned miserable knowing your partner doesn't support or even accept what YOU like doing.
If he has a hobby or a belief, perhaps explain That you support/ accept HIS.
You are NOT insane don't listen to his verbals like that.

This is a really difficult situation. I know, been there done that. You cannot force someone to believe in something thet can't comprehend. I would just agree to disagree and hopefully that will be enough and just dwell on what you have in common in the relationship and build on that. I have to agree with the others that it is best to not bring up the subject it seems to be a sore subject between the two of you and he probably will never accept it.

lol, I just think it's a big strong & over dramatized that people would leave a partner for a disagreement on beliefs...If thats the case, then Im sure you're gonna be single all you're life...When I disagree with my guy, we may argue over it sometimes, but in the end we agree to disagree....

Thats just my two cents from what you've said, I obviously dont know the whole story & forgive me if Im wrong...I just think it could be overlooked if he stops saying you're "crazy" & respects you're beliefs, even if he doesn't agree with them.

A Partner NEEDS to BE a partner.. and ALLOW the fact that no 2 individuals are the same.

Don't takeany shit from him tho.

If he is gonna behave like an Ogre, that is HIS beef.
your behaviour doesn't SOUND unreasonable.
I really HOPE that you guys come to a happy medium.
I tried Ultimatums, I was TOLD that I was 'forcing' a choice, I was tired of being made to feel so shit and like a 'nothing'
Just go with what you FEEL.
I wish you the very best.

Ultimatums are tricky. If you give an ultimatum you have to be prepared to follow through. If you're partner sees, that you don't follow through after you gave him/her one the first time, it's never going to work again, they know you wont stick to it.

This realy hits home for alot of people. I am Pagan so I get it all the time. I dont go around screaming it from the roof tops , but still I wear my black clothes to sheild me from negitivity and of corse I NEVER take off my Pentacle! So when people see it they sometimes like to throw mean looks, and say things like "your going to Hell", or " you worship the devil". To say I don't belive in a devil (thats christian dogma), almost always makes things worse! However I'm not about to hide, or let my true self be shut up in some closet either. If I where you I would find something he feels strongly about and try to relate it to your own situation as best I could, and if he still doesnt get it just remind him that you are who you are and all those thing that make you diffrent are the very things that make you unique.

you said he wasnt always like that - that at first he was tolerant. either he was pretending to be tolerant, hoping he could change you once you were both married - or all this really has nothing to do with your beliefs at all. perhaps he is being like this towards you to deliberately hurt you, because he wants you to leave him. it certainly does look like he is doing all he can to drive you away and make you despise him.

Ultimatums will ONLY work if it is fair.
eg..... if you said "believe me or i'll leave you" THAT is as unfair as him saying "Stop believeing or'ill leave you"
However, should you actually BE ALLOWED to prove your belief HELPS you.... EVEN IF HE DOESN'T AGREE, then he should respect YOUR way of thining and dealing with certain things.
If he doesn't, then you have every right to give a fair "ultimatum" ie "stop making disrespectful remarks or XYZ"
At least then he can mock in his mind if he wants, but it doesn't hurt him and it doesn't hurt you.
MOREOVER, and please don't be offended, but nobody else has asked this, and i actually doubt that it applies, but i am a Libran, so always look both ways. We have all only heard YOUR side of your and his story.
May i ask... HAVE YOU actually discussed WHY he has changed his views and processes? did he read / experience something that spooked him? has he had a bad circumstance with something spiritual? He's Catholic, so he HAS to believe in SOMETHING! so why all of a sudden, or gradually???
People mock when they are afraid or DON'T or can't UNDERSTAND... e.g a white kid mocks the red dot on an indian's forehead due to not knowing or understanding!
has HE been given the opportunity to explain his issues?
I DO understand where YOU are coming from. Some things i do are VERY difficult to understand, and no matter how i try, it always seems i am in the WRONG, which makes me feel worse, but if you saw my "life story" as to why, one may actually give me "the exeption to the rule".
Rant over!
I hope you can come to some agreement.... as someone said earlier.... if he went fishing.... and you see NO sense in it, you MAY mock it. but should he tell you he feels at peace, and can clear his mind, who are YOU to stop a human doing that in this mad world? (ironically, he's meditating in HIS way!!!) LoL

Here are my tips:

*Ask him if he feels more alive while at a club surrounded by energy than he does sitting at home alone.

*Does he know of anyone that when he is near, his energy drops and he becomes tired? Everyone knows someone who just drags other down.

*If he doesnt understand it, tell him its ok. Most people are not aware of how much energy swapping happens and how to block your own energy from escaping. As long as he doesnt belittle that part of you, just don't talk about it.

Its no different than having a husband who loves football, but you're not into it. You don't understand the downs, the scoring system, etc... But you still let him watch even though you won't.

Personally, I don't agree that someones 'life story' ought to interfere in a negative way, with who somone is supposed to 'love'. From my experience, My husband was VERY willing to give me the time and the energy to get involved with parts of me that he hadn't known before. Heck he never even knew what a garlic looked like til I showed him!

He Loved me and he WANTED to get involved Because He loved me, and my beliefs were part of ME.
He didn't like me planting the joss sticks about LoL.. BUT he accepted them. I comprimised by not putting them about, too often.
I think a compromise is better than an Ultimatum.
My experiences of Ultimatums were just GHASTLY, I guess it ruined it for me.
I have also experienced someone NOT accepting what I am and What I do.. I too was mocked and belittled.
I have learned that they simply didn't LOVE ME.
Perhaps TRY a compromise.
go with your heart and it FEELs wrong, it probably IS.
Peoples respnces on here have been really interesting. I have found that in my life, People ought to practice what they PREACH.
As i aforementioned, Find something that HE does, or likes that you particularly Dislike, bring it to him.
I am afflicted by eating shellfish, but I won't stop my partner eating it!! (my life HAS affliction, but I won't afflict my partner WITH IT) I am able to look at myself introspectively and avoid such unnecessaries.
I was cheated on and physically hurt, But I won't afflict my partner with my pasts, or negative experiences. for me, that Is dwelling on the past.

I feel, your beliefs are a huge part of who you are, But it isn't as damaging, if at all, as HE makes out it is, or could be.

Could it be that he feels he isn't getting attention from you?
(just a thought)

If you are truly happy with this man then just let him stay in the dark about these things. Some people just can not be reasoned with. You have us here at the Rave to talk to with. I understand what you are going through. I was married once to a man that was nothing like me and could never understand me or how I felt. I wish you the best of luck. But don't push him. Some people have their own religious or psychological beliefs so deeply engrained that they not only can't accept other points of view, but they then think anyone with a conflicting belief is automatically wrong, insane, or a heretic.

I know people who think anything not "natural", from ghosts and spirits to vampires and shapeshifters is automatically a demon, and anyone who has an interest in them or doesn't see them as demons is corrupted and worshipping satan.

Its best to stop trying to get through to those people before it gets ugly. If someone can't accept your beliefs and practices, then you are better off finding someone who will. A persons deepest held beliefs and prejudices never really change, no matter what they may say.

Just seeing if there was any update with advice. Hope all is sane. I do agree, you should not mix religon and relationships.

sometimes when your partner does not understand or does not wish to be open minded about your beliefs it is best to let it just be for alittle while. You spoke to him you gave hima book etc. now just allow him to take it all in to see if he can absorb the fact/ideal of your beliefs. in time if he does not approach you on it maybe ask if he thought about it.... and sometime people do have to agree to disagree I do with some... just my opinion

you tried to explain, then to give info with books and toher ways, I guess the only thing is to show him. Show him what it is directly.

I feel your pain believe me . I have to agree with others. An open mind can not be forced. Maybe , perhaps, by degrees, but proceed with caution.

A lot of people, like your husband, dismiss what they cannot piece together. It almost sounds to me your husband may be frightened by the mere possibility of you being a Psy because he doesn't understand the facts behind it. Since you simply cannot change a person besides yourself, I'd recommend limiting your conversation about your experiences with him and share them with someone who understands.

Maybe you could just ask him to sit down and listen. Try explaining the whole situation... what you are and what you believe. Then ask him why he doesn't believe it's real. Try to show him you aren't "nuts" and that this is real to you. Is there any way you could physicaly prove it to him?
