I would like to say something about alchemists.

Firstly an alchemist is a form of scientist. They research minerals and chemicals so much that they combine them to create desired effects.

The idea of the philosophers stone being created by a powerful alchemist is pure falicy and a myth conjured by those who did not understand the rudimentary basics of alchemy.

An alchemis is much like a true chemist of today. A chemist (as in someone who makes the various commercialised drugs that are available today and not just the person who dispenses them) will combine certain chemicals and elements to create effects. However, with this said, a true alchemist will not only search for solutions to specific problems, they will also use their arts to determins the next question.

I believe that the person who discovered penecillin, paracetamol, and other pain killers and antibiotics would have been alchemists.

I strongly suggest that others actually research this in more detail before they make judgements.

I don't think alchemy is as much in the spotlight as it was in earlier times. Nonetheless, I feel certain that their are more alchemist than you think. Be patient, there seem to be a number here.
They should respond shortly.

i think there are still ppl who practice alchemy. im sure its not as well known because its not a popular science. society tends to ignore things that defy what we all ready know and keep it in the darkness. but im sure there are alchemists out there.

Hidden secrets? Underground groups? Funny.

Alchemy went occult because you can't turn ordinary objects into gold. I highly doubt anyone is working with quick-silver any more and adding it into potions. It had its day and now is dead. Chemistry came out of it. Granted it is cool to think of someone mixing and brewing things but really. As for the deceit and secrecy, it was for a good reason. It was a good job at the time but if you didn't have some results, you lost more than your job.

The old alchemists are to chemists today like the witches / healers are like doctors today. They tired to work with various minerals and metals but didn't understand the scientific method and what happens at the molecular level.

I would note that our British friends call a chemist what we call a pharmacist in the states.

All I thaught Alchemy was, Was the art of changing something in to something else using the same matrials but differnt properties of the materials.

I see I was wrong...and the Symbols Maniferous posted.....Many are used today in almost the same meaning.

The Egyptians made a mix of metals that looked like gold … some greedy westerner took the idea back …. The church burnt those who went against gods nature.
Funny alchemy is just that lol only the church stood to get gold as much as they could so this form of magic was allowed …. Funny old world … bit like famous people getting away with murder

I am sure it is still around, as other forms of science. But, it really isn't needed as much, since many of the compound items that were once created, can now be aquired with greater ease.

I must say that i still perform some alchemical things, but most of the old style alchemy is long dead since the arts of chemistry and physics branched off.

However, anyone who is a physicist or chemist is indeed a form of alchemist.

but yet i would have to say that it is a state of mind even tho some people would like to use it for physical charectoristics

it was back in merlin's time where that had all begain and then started to branch off into different countries and prectices

Alchemy IS practiced more and more everyday, we just don't call it "Alchemy" or "Alchemists" anymore.

It's called Science and scientists nowadays.

Alchemy is the study of mixing different chemicals together to see what reactions you can get from them.

Alchemy is practiced everywhere..... How do you think different kinds of paints are made? Such as epoxy paint for example, if you mix the wrong compound with the "base" epoxy, then the paint never heats up and dries. Now, how do you think people found out what chemicals to mix together to make this work? And this is just one example.

Household cleaning products would be another good example, as most medicines are good examples as well.

There are "alchemists" everywhere.

I have to agree with Almighty13. Alchemists are now called scientists. Historically alchemists were considered mysterious because they blew things up. Mixing compounds can be a dangerous thing! lol

As a science teacher I can say that scientists today are doing the same things that alchemists in those days did. Historically scientists mostly did physical/earth science, not chemical science. Today, science has branched out to include all the genres.

I think the alchemists had their big time in the middle ages of course, yes today they also exist, but not much as than, beside i think today they are no more so stupid illusionist like in the middle ages, i don`t think they still believe that it`s possible to find the "wise stone" to turn metal into gold and such stupid things

All life is a form of Alchemy, the blending of spirits to create from nature.

All things, how you interact with anything, with even but a thought is a chemical process that creates a result that nature yields. You just have be observant enough in your actions to be able to tell whats going on.

Alchemists may call themselves different things. They may be chemists, researchers, pharmacists, brewer or botanists. Or they may be witches, grave robbers, healers, toxicologists, herbalists or the "crazy old woman who lives on the hill". In the EPOCH world an alchemist is anyone who collects ingredients and creates potions of some sort.

I am utterly amazed how the same conversation can be had repeatedly in quick succession with absolutely no regard to the fact that you are merely repeating yourselves.

Someone should take the natural state of this forum post, and combine it with the logical conclusion of reading the entire post, putting some thought into the original question as well as taking into account of the opinions and notions put forth since the original, and then formulate a response only if you have something to add to the conversation. You may find a different beast altogether that is more than it's sum parts.

That is true alchemy, Watson.

(did I respond to this yet?) Physical alchemy like turning lead to gold... Started out as what we now consider chemistry. And though completely unstable I'm sure, it might be accomplushed in some of the physics labs they have in Switzerland or something. (wow, that sounded ditzy) But there is the whole spiritual alchemy and evolution of self to achieve Ascension or immortality that interests me far more.

Just made an observation. Now, if I were to express a personal opinion that mirrored that of one that has already been mentioned, that would be hypocritical.

Homey don't play that.
