I believe that the self concious mind is vulnerable and can be lead to believe in things that never really happened. I do not believe in hypnosis as far as making someone remember something but I do think that you can make someone 'remember' something that has never happened to that person.
Hypnosis can work if done the right way. If the wrong questions are asked then false things can be conjured up from the mind. You need to make sure the hypnotist is very experienced at his/her job.
I believe hypnosis can work if done the right way. Everyone's mind is susceptible to hypnosis, just some are stronger minded than others.
If you have truely walked between the worlds, you know this to be impossible for you become of two minds. Your conscious and your super conscious will not allow it. For those who haven't achieved such states, Its interesting to watch people subject themselves to it.
I think the reason a lot of people can be hypnotized is because the brain is able to consume lots of information fast, and i would think a smart person could be hypnotized faster than a dumb person could, and their are some people out their that can not be hypnotized at all...
i agree that some poeple cant be, but i wonder if a person had a dual personality could one be hypnotised and the other not be??????
yea i truly believe in hypnotism. i think magicians do exactly that with their audiences.
i believe only those who believe in hypnosis can truly get hypnotised
One of my grandmas went to hypnosis before and they couldn't get her to go into the trance! She said that shes one of the few people who can't.
I my self have never had it done.
I believe with the right person and the mood anything is possible..guess our minds get vulnerable so yeah it can happen
I believe it can happen but they tried to hypnotize me but couldn't. I wish I could get hypnotized, I would like to see if I had a passed life.
It could be used as a mind control tool, forms of it are used by advertisers on TV and radio every day.
Most people are not even aware of it, for instance; playing the commercial 5 times in one episode or repeating lyrics in a song.
It's subtile but effective.
i believe that we are always being hypnosis everyday of our lives one way or another it start in the 50's with secret passages being send in movies to today with trend setting in what clothes and food is best to wear or eat.
I have been to a hypnotist, but they were unsuccessful. My psychiatrist tried once too, but no luck. It's even been tried on me in my sleep, apparently I told the person to go **** themselves. Hypnotism is possible though, and it can bring out the true potential of the mind. I watched a girl get hypnotized once, on of my brother's friends. The hypnotist told her that when he counted to 3 that she was to levitate off her stool, I couldn't believe my eyes when it actually worked. Using hypnotism to retrieve lost memories is a bad idea, there was an issue in a court about it being done on a rape victim to help her remember who did it. The problem was the girl didn't even remember being raped, it was later decided that the memories they retrieved were false, accidentally created by the hypnotist. Marlene, you can find out about your possible past lives without hypnotism, there is a Native American practice that is similar, but it isn't the same, you remain conscious during it and you'll remember everything. If you would like some details on it send me a message.
I have witnessed hypnotism as a stage act several times, and know someone who found it useful to conquer a phobia.
As to how it works....?
Cerberos69
raises a good question, can anyone enlighten us ?
I believe that hypnotism is possible but only for those who can be, there are a small percentage of people who cannot be hypnotized, those of strong will cannot be.
welll i cant tell u more then i cant be hypnotized many have tryed....=]
but i dont have a clue how they do that to others.....=]
Cerberos69 it would be possible depending on the other personality. Now the trick to that is, the dormant personality will often times reside in the sub/unconscious. So if the dormant personality can't be hypnotized there is a possibility it will interfere with the hypnotism of the awake one.
here is an interesting article i found on self hypnosis that some individuals might find helpful.
credit goes to (http://www.mindtools.com/stress/RelaxationTechniques/SelfHypnosis.htm)
for this is the source i got it from.
First, decide if you want to use affirmations as part of your self-hypnosis session (you will still be able to relax deeply if you do not use them). If you do, then prepare the affirmations you want to use before you start the session, as you will not want to think about them once you have reached a state of deep relaxation!
Next, find somewhere comfortable and quiet, and sit down.
Now, relax your body. A good way of doing this is to close your eyes and imagine waves of relaxation running down your body from your scalp downwards, washing out stress. Let the waves run in time with your breathing, first washing down over your head, then your neck, then your torso, then arms, and finally your legs. Feel the muscles in your body relaxing as the waves of relaxation wash over them.
The next step is to use suggestion to deepen the state of relaxation. This can be as simple as saying something like: “I am feeling relaxed and comfortable to yourself. With every breath I am becoming more relaxed and more comfortable…" Alternatively, use the traditional approach of suggesting sleepiness: "I am tired and sleepy. I can feel the heaviness in my arms and legs. I am more and more tired…"
Once you feel completely relaxed, use the affirmations you have prepared. Mix these in with the relaxation suggestions.
Typical self-hypnosis sessions can last between 15 and 25 minutes; however, they can last for as long as you like.
An alternative to using self-hypnosis is to listen to hypnosis MP3s - the benefit of these is that you can listen to them and relax when you are too tired to want to hypnotize yourself. A good source of these is Hypnosis Downloads, whose information we show on the sidebars. Hypnosis Downloads provide the following relaxation and stress management programs..
Self-hypnosis is a practical and effective technique for relaxing deeply. It can be used with or without affirmations, depending on what you want to achieve.
To use the technique, find somewhere comfortable and quiet to sit down. Think about, and prepare, any affirmations that you might want to use. Start by closing your eyes and relaxing your muscles. A good way of doing this is to use imagery. Move on to use suggestion to relax yourself even more. When you feel very relaxed, use any affirmations that you have prepared. Enjoy the state of hypnosis for as long as you like.
Oh boy...I read the thread and saw the question above about what hypnosis really is. I looked it up.
The state of hypnosis is compared to altered sense of reality. Research has shown that the electrical state of the brain actually changes with hypnosis. Your brain waves actually change.

interesting thread i must say. i have enjoyed reading it. my veiw of hypnosis is that it is real and if some events may not have happened maybe its from many past lives events coming together to form a memory that never happened in your life time. I have never been hypnotised but it is somthing I'm fairly interested in.
I dont trust hypnosis as it can be mnaipulated to make a person see or say or do as the person who hypnosus her or him wishes.
i belive the reason is cause than we no longer have control over our selfs and our mind
I believe in hypnosis, though it is definitely something that is not easily done. And some people, I think, cannot fully be hypnotized due to a strong will and clear mind.
I think there are levels of hypnosis. Some people are like a portal to post hypnotic suggestion, where as others are like a brick wall. Stubborn, strong, how ever you want to classify that person. Then the others who are easily hypnotized, who are more open minded, sensitive, easily swayed. I personally think hypnosis is very over rated, not to offend any one. I believe that people do and behave in a manner that they genetically engineered to do. By this I mean traits, inhereted by the parents.
If you do not want to be hypnotize then you will not be. It is that simple. No body can make you do anything that you do not want to do. It has nothing to do with a clear or strong mind. Although some people do create blocks in their minds that will prevent a good session. Some of these blocks can be dealt with while others are considered to be healthy. You would not want to remove a block that a psychotic made for himself for example.
Other than that, a person can experience hypnosis in about six seconds! It is not hard to do. The unconscious mind is liken to that of a child. And this is how we deal with it - as a child. If you take something away from a child, you better give that child something in return for it. A child also does not always know what it is doing either. You need to talk things out.
As for the shows that you see on TV and school, they are fake and staged. If I tell you that a camera is on you and you will be on TV or on stage, you would act like a chicken too. Its all in fun. But it is not hypnosis.
i believe in hypnosis... i have known people who has had it done for looseing weight, memory issue, stop smokeing, and it has worked.. how this really is able to be done i do not know.. id like to be hypnotized once
I believe that if you are open to the hypnosis, then maybe it would work. I thought about trying the 'quit smoking' hypnosis, but I am a little afraid of some stranger hypnotizing me. I think I have a fear of them putting something else in my mind.
I believe you have to have a strong belief in it for it to happen I have tried having it done and they could not do it. Guess because I had mixed feeling's on it.
I believe that the self concious mind is vulnerable and can be lead to believe in things that never really happened. I do not believe in hypnosis as far as making someone remember something but I do think that you can make someone 'remember' something that has never happened to that person.
I agree with BillytheJust~
Tha crap you see on television, that has to do with hypnosis is fake they need to get good rateings, i think hypnosis is possible but only for people who wants to be hypnotized i have seen people try to get hypnotized and they just could not get hypnotized so its up to the person if they want to get hypnotized or not...
I do believe that people can be hypnatised and can hypnatise them selves.
A friend of mine's Mom is into psycology, self hypnotherapy and practicaly warships a professor that has written books on the occults.
anyway to get to the point she has hypnatised me and it worked. she made me a believer.
My grandfather was a hypnotist before he became a reverend..lol, how interesting.
I also have a good famiy friend who is a hypnotist. Not the stage-show type, but the therapeutic kind. (Habit stopping, childhood regression, etc.)
It's said that people who don't think they can be hypnotized fall under easier than others.
I've never had a hands on experience with hypnosis though.
It's known that our brain is the most complex thing that we know. It is said that we only use 17% capacity of our brain. Which should leave you wondering how powerful could our minds be if we used even a further 10%?
Can the mind create events that have never happened...? I reakon we can do many great things with our mind it's a matter of focusing, many hours of meditation, you would find alot of information reading on buddah and the monks they can travel up to great distances on foot going days without food and water and they survive purely on mind power will and strength.
I have been hypnotised before. It felt as if I was in two different places. My body was in the room but my mind was at the beach. I believe the reason hypnosis works is because at some level we want what our minds are being told is happening or happened. Anyway thats what I think.
I have had people try to use hypnosis on me and it doesn't work, i am too much of a control freak.
i do believe hypnotism is real and think that our mind is just open to suggestions is why it can create events that are false.
Well, I suppose believing in hypnosis depends on ones definition of the phrase. Darknessgalore said that magicians hypnotize people. This isn't entirely true. Those performers are either called mentalist or simply hypnotists usually. While both types of performers are about suggestion. It isn't really on the same level.
Generally, when you see a person being hypnotized on stage and they are doing outlandish things they are just "less inhibited" for lack of a better term. They know what they are doing from what I have been told, even if they don't admit it after the fact. While they might be disconnected on some level they are conscious.
Magicians on the other hand are all about "breaking down the fourth wall." Instead of just going through the motions and trying to be entertaining, a good magicians will try to connect with the audience on an almost primal level. By showing them something impossible, and letting them experience it without guidelines, it could create a disconnected feeling of astonishment. This is how I see the similarities.
I just thought I would add my two cents.

I think people are very suseptable to hypnosis, some more than others but everyone can be.... But the power of suggestion is a powerful tool used by many to get people to eat and drink things... Go to a movie etc. A lot of times the way a person pictures something when suggested they are able to put themselves in the situation...
I hope I made sense on that if I didn't please let me know and I'll try to do better with this....
