Throughout the ages, men and women have been subject to what is called Devine inspiration.

This mostly concerns the uncovering of certain 'truths' regarding various religions.

My question to the forum is, do you feel you have ever been inspired by who/whatever you believe to be devine ?

If so what form did it take, and what change if any did it bring to your life or indeed the life of others ?

I mentioned something about this in my response to the "human to god" thread, but I dont see things really as "divine". I believe in self-enlightenment. I see realizations and obvious awarenesses coming into being, but I do not persay believe in godly influence. Yes, I am atheist, but I am speaking from an experiencial, as a once before Catholic. I was once hit with a wave of seeming divine inspiration, but looking back, "divine influence" is just what I wanted it to be. Seeing the past as I am now, I see things that could have been miracles as merely happenings that were bound to happen, one belief or another. Inspiriations as me finding things inside myself. Not divine, just me.

I think all people look for divine inspiration at what ever they seek, religion love. and it helps to move a passion in ones self to follow the path they seek.

I have not seen anything in a manifested way, but have felt that certain ideas about a situation popped in my head. It could have been subconscience kicking in. So no, I would not say I have ever had this happen.

Nicolae, that was a spectacular answer. I completely agree with you.

Many people do feel that our existence revolves around a form of divine/ celestial entity, and although I respect this belief I cannot help but feel that divine inspiration is in fact a personal epiphany of sorts; where we suddenly see through things through a new or more enlightened perspective, and then interpret this view as we so wish. So, I do not personally believe that religion (for me personally) comes anywhere into it, but yes I have experiences this to a certain extent, but not on a grand scale. I would however, be interested to hear the experiences of others- I tend to find that it is the seemingle small details in life that suddenly make me stop and think "this is the way the world works" when I am feeling particularly reflective, and I wonder if this state of reflectivity is experienced by teh general consensus who post here?

I have been profoundly inspired but I don't personally feel that it was divine. I don't much get along with the 'divine'. I'm not even sure we've 'met' much less been 'roomies' or anything close.

I have had some sudden, random inspirations that seemed to come out of nowhere. There was one in particular that was very strange and I took it as a sign from God, though it's one of those things that is very personal and no explanations can do it justice.

Carvall - Inspiration can come from anything...an experience you had...a song you've heard...a loss of a friend or loved one...great sex...ad infinitum.

Things happen that click just right or at the right time with a need or mental block that you've experienced or even without a need and suddenly you have the answer or you see something that needs to be written or painted or spoken about. That's inspiration. I can put most of my inspiration down to experiences that changed my perspective or gave me new insight.

When two opposites come together that is inspiration, when doubt mixed with desire and a sense of can do finally bump heads it's called motivation, motivation sparks the drive to challenge things mentally and inspiration is the end product of the two.
To be inspired to write a writer has doubts then desire then motivation then can do and writes even though he/she may have the complete story in their heads and may get ahead of themselves because of inspiration which is the seed of their being coming into fruition. You gain thoughts and ideas from general life or from you imagination of what could be and you just go with it until things come together.

I have never felt enlightened or anything of the sort.... I was baptised when I was 15 but I truly think it was to make my parents happy.... Since I've gotten older I have turned to a more Wiccan outlook and have yet to feel anything really moving..... But I do know I still have a lot to learn and there may come a day when this happens to me but until then I can't say that I have experienced the "inspiration"

You might think me mental for this one, but ever since I started seeing my guardian angel if you would name it that, a human form, not showing its face, but with wings. And that voice it has. I do not turn to Christian nor Catholic beliefs, but rather believing that you cannot worship family. In an aspect, in the biblical texts, he whom is the I am, says we are all his children...Hell no I am not going to bow down and kiss my fathers feet, even out of respect. Even if I do not claim it as my father. Blasted trinities, but of course all things mystical come in threes. Three fold laws are there for a reason, not to be extorted.

In answering the original question, yes I have. It may not be popular but it had to do with who I thought was in charge. I won't relate it here as I think it would muddy the waters. It was a situation where you are asked by another about a supreme being and his place in the world and the answer given was not one that was studied but later found to be exactly right. At least from the perspective of doctrine. Weird situation for me to say the least. I hate giving uneducated answers!! So I feel that this one time it was given by the one in whom I have faith.

Not really a fan of the whole 'divine' thing. So, I'm not really one to believe in divine intervention. I think that humans have more potential than they realise, and, when they do something they didn't think they could do, have a tendency to chalk it up to outside forces. Could be totally wrong, though.

well first I use devine as a synonym for self....
I don't believe in god, but i do believe in "the potential of human[ity]"
So using my definition, yes I have had (actually a few) very profound (if not completly life changing) events. However, interms of inspiration in general all you need do is look around you.
(I love telling this story...) one time, I sat down in the middle of the street and stared up at a very large oak tree.... Just watched it for about 30 mins. only finally getting up and moving on when the person in the car wouldn't get off their horn.... but the tree reminded me of interconnectivity.... and interdependancy...

This is a very good question. To me, I do believe that there is a higher being who created everything. But I think after it created everything it stopped interfering with people. I don't believe that God-I use this name because most people call the higher being who created us, God- reveals world truths to people. I think that it is up to us to find the truths to our world, and everyone has to find their own truths. A person can't just come out of nowhere and just tell you. Furthermore, people who have had "Divine Inspiration," I think that they themselves had a revelation, and it didn't come from God but from within themselves.

I am sorry if I offend anyone with my opinion.

DarkAngelGina...you opened up an entire new spin on the original question! Well done!

Carvali, I have read the entire thread. You have asked repeatedly for us who answer to tell you what divine is. Felix said it the best and Gina added to it. Here is my thought.

Everyone has those moments in life when life is beating them down. All of the energy is negative and you are not going to survive. Being human and subjected to the barrage of information we are subjected to, we "pray".

This prayer could be a thought bouncing through your mind, a well worded plea, or just about anything! It slips out of its own accord.

Then something happens. The earth moves, energy shifts, a mental block falls, or just about anything happens and the situation improves.

Based on our life experiences with mans (using term loosly...all life forms) religions we can choose to call it divine.

For me a divine intervention comes when it is a situation that is a life altering experience for me. The death of my mother was a divine intervention.

By divine do I mean it was from "my" Goddess/God? Yes. Her death gave me a deeper bond with my daughter which I have found a need for as time has passed.

I hope I have answered your question. Excellent thread!

I find it interesting that nobody has mentioned the Muse yet...

According to greek mythology, the Muses were 9 goddesses those task it was to incite creativity and inspiration in individuals.

Wilkipedia can explain it better than I ever could:

In Greek mythology, the Muses (Greek Μοῦσαι, Mousai: perhaps from the Proto-Indo-European root *men- "think") are a sisterhood of goddesses or spirits, their number set at nine by Classical times, who embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music and dance. They were water nymphs, associated with the springs of Helicon and with Pieris, from which they are sometimes called the Pierides. The Olympian system set Apollo as their leader, Apollon Mousagetes. Not only are the Muses explicitly used in modern English to refer to an inspiration, as when one cites his/her own artistic muse, but they are also implicit in the words "amuse" or "musing upon".

According to Hesiod's Theogony (seventh century BC), they are the daughters of Zeus, king of the gods, and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory. For Alcman and Mimnermus, they were even more primordial, springing from Uranus and Gaia. Pausanias records a tradition of two generations of Muses; the first being daughters of Uranus and Gaia, the second of Zeus and Mnemosyne. Another, rarer genealogy is that they are daughters of Harmonia (the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares) which contradicts the myth in which they were dancing at the wedding of Harmonia and Cadmus.

One theory I have is that we are all born with all the ideas, thoughts and inventions we will ever think of already locked away in our mind, and as we go through life certain events, sights, sounds or scents will unlock one of these ideas. I think that's why certain sounds or smells etc seem to remind us of something we sometimes can't quite put our finger on...

I don't really believe divine intervention... i think it is something people made up or decided to believe in to push them towards thier goals because they couldn't find the strength inside of themsleves at first. But if we all truely believed in the strength of self then we wouldnt need beliefs like this one.

Carvall, you asked if anyone had been inspired by another persons courage or endeavors.

I have, and that person is my best friend and teacher. I apprenticed with her for 5 years, and what she taught me got me through some very rough and potentially life-threatening times. She had been through some rough times in her life, but she inspired me to keep learning, and keep living.

Well, here's another reason why I belong in an institution. Hooray for the forum!

I saw the cup glow during the blessing of the sacraments when I attended a Mass to be polite to my professor/priest friend. I kinda figured that was one of those "Hey!" *smack* "Stupid! This is what you're supposed to do!" moments, so I joined the Church, and am now happily lapsed and only go to mass when it's convenient.

Hence the slapping and the name-calling by whatever divine force blah blah blah.

I am so getting a coach seat when I purchase my ticket to heaven.

I am another person that inspiration just seems to 'happen' to... Most of the time I find inspiration through nature, though occasionally I will come across an artist, a piece of music, or even a person who has the same effect on me.

I would say, then, that inspiration in my case may or may not be divine, and is based more on my openness to be inspired.

Heh, yeah, maybe it was just to investigate. It's interesting that the type of Catholicism I joined (Maronite) is a segment of Catholicism that was persecuted by the Church itself. Weird.

Though many have stated they have been inspired, it is interesting to note how many of you question if that inspiration is devine......

Do you think that the devine is 'out of reach/touch'....?

Divine Inspiration...? One would have to believe in some form of divinity. But inspiration comes from everything that surrounds us, everything we see, everything we hear, everything we feel... I for one am often inspired by the way things make me feel, and the people that mean something special to me... hardly surprising that My Soul Mate inspires one or two of my story's gorgeous babes... *grins*

Divinity... depends on your perception of divinity... is your faith an all-encompassing, surrounding one, in which case you could easily put such experiences in your life... as the nature of your faith

If what happened to me was divine in nature, then yeah, I question my worthiness of it, simply for the fact that I don't go to church and haven't investigated the religion thoroughly enough.

If it wasn't divine in nature, if it was a trick in my head played by devious little neurons, then awesome, I'm crazy, and that much more fun to know.

maybe it's divine inspiration, or maybe it's Jung's collective unconscious - I don't know; but i do know that i get great ideas, and i have no idea where they come from. all my life i have had ideas appear in my head, and i just know things without ever having been told.

I know religion can be inspirational for alot of people, but I'm one of the skeptics of religion.

I'll tell you what was inspirational for me...

A few weeks ago, I watched a documentary called "The Secret". It was about the Laws of Attraction, mind over matter type stuff if you will, and if you truly believe and vision something to happen, it will.

There were quite a few stories of people's use of this "Law of Attraction" and the one that inspired me the most was a story of a man, some of you might have heard of this story, they called him "The Miracle Man".

This guy crashed his small airplane, crushed 2 vertebrae in his spine, crushed his diaphram, lungs were collapsed, he had to be permanently hooked up to a respiratory system as he would never be able to breathe on his own, he was paralyzed from the neck down, and a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Doctors told him that he would pretty much be a vegetable the rest of his life since he would never be able to breathe on his own, never walk again, and never be able to speak again.
This man told the doctors through code of eye blinking, "I'm walking out of here by Christmas". The Doctors just shook their heads.

The man said everyday he visioned himself breathing on his own. He concentrated everyday, opening his mouth and trying to take breaths on his own. A few weeks later, doctors took him off the respiratory system because he was breathing fine on his own. The doctors couldn't explain it.

8 months later, at Christmas time, this man, deemed "The Miracle Man", walked out of that hospital.

Now if any of you ever get a chance to rent "The Secret" and watch this documentary, this story I just told you about will truly be an inspiration.

I hope that's what your saying here? lol or did I misunderstand question... As I myself am a LPN furthering it to RN. Her belief's were passed down to me.

I agree with those who have said that inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere.. personal experiences, the experiences of others.. simple things..natural things.. etc..

For me spiritually.. when I connect with the Lord and Lady, be it by meditation or ritual or prayer, I am reminded of the blessings and gifts I have been given, which then inspires me to make use of them... I suppose that would be divine inspiration.

I personally feel that there hasn't been a divine inspiration. When you really need inspiration and believe there is no hope and it just so happens to come is it truly divine..or are you divine for inspiring your self?
