The First Mark
Love
To show that the flesh and blood and bone are loved. Adored. Worshipped, almost. To say “I love you” is easy enough. To have a Mark gnawed into your bone, a permanent statement – to experience the pain required to place it there. That mirrors the true fantastically sweet pain that love is.
The Second Mark
Owned
To show that the recipient is owned and belongs. An acknowledgement on the part of the recipient that they belong to the other person. A Mark that shows up on x-rays as proof the person belongs, truly, completely, without reservation, belongs to someone else – with all the implications and responsibilities that come with ownership. Being owned can be painful at times, hence the pain required to place the Mark.
The Third Mark
Forever
Forever is a long time, but to be marked thus and have the marks endure on bones, long after death…………that’s the definition of forever. It’s proof of the enduring quality of the love and the sense of belonging body and soul to another person.
The Fourth Mark
Mastery
This is an acknowledgement of the mastery of the recipient over the giver of the Mark. It’s a permanent way of saying the giver of the Mark belongs in every possible way to the recipient. – it promises that the giver will protect, love, cherish and otherwise do their level best to make the recipient happy, to please them. It is not necessarily an acknowledgement of subjugation, but more of equality and love.
The Fifth Mark
Soul Mates
The complete unity of two souls is something magical and much sought after. The fifth Mark acknowledges that person has been found, and will never be lost. It is a culmination and continuation of the other four Marks. It is the deepest and most profound of connections possible to find.
