Aliens have been said to be on this planet way before people came about. Usually, everyone has always known aliens as these little green creatures with a big head and a rather small body.

This has always been the image of an 'alien'.

My question is, do you think an alien that we know would evolve, or stay the same way forever? Do you think our view on aliens would change in the future?

Sure, most living beings or creatures would have to adapt to their environment thus change. Also I think the more familiar something became the more accepted it becomes.. Equal rights for aliens are not too far fetched.

As far as I know and have researched, people have seen aliens under practically one image for hundreds, if not thousands of years. (Green, short, black eyes.. ect).

So I'm wondering if aliens are just imagination or something indeed living and striving, and something that has been to Earth.

Though, imagination could also evolve..

Actually I am not sure about that. I would believe they would evolve like everything else does in life. But then again they could not there is not a sure answer.

Well, evolution would probably only occur if the need to adapt was present. So, if something was already totally adapted to its environment would it really need to evolve? Would it evolve even if it didn't need to? I'm really not sure.

Also, I have heard of more than just the "grays." They just happen to be the most well known.

Well, more than just the "grays" as you say Jack, would be all the details ect. The main image of an alien we all know. If there was any adaptation present in the aliens people "see" over the years, people would have documented them and I'm sure they would be seen in the next alien movie or something.

And yes, I think every living creature would evolve in one way or another. If aliens are indeed 'living creatures', they would evolve. They would be forced to unless they are perfect, which obviously aliens are not.

I have thought for a while though.. aliens are a lot like God, in many ways...

But that's for another discussion. =)

The view on what is an alien will probably change in the future, as what people usually think an alien would look like.

However, if indeed a real alien looked as what most people portray them to be [short, green, et cetera] it's possible that they can evolve just as humans and animals and plants do.

But, that also depends on if it is possible for alien evolution considering their whole different genetic structure.

I would think that they would have to adapt and evolve also, unless they've already somehow reached the ultimate biological perfection. Which seems unlikely to me.

For hundreds of years the alien image practically hasn't changed. What makes you think it would in the future, Nocna?

There's the possibility of real alien discovery in the future with the advancement of technology and such. If such a thing like that were to happen it would most definitely change peoples opinions on what an alien looks like.

But if there happens not to be something as proof of actual alien existence in the future, peoples opinions on what something looks like can be influenced easily. Such as, a widely popular comic strip or a world wide television show.

Just because the image of aliens hasn't changed for hundreds if not thousands of years doesn't mean that they don't evolve. Take a look at the human race and how little its evolved over the past few millenia.

Yes, mentally people have evolved and devolved though the centuries, but our bodies haven't. Think about how you would physically describe a human to a visitor from another planet. Has that physical description changed much in the course of human history? No, not really.

There have been more than one type in the public eye. Such as the nordics, reptilian and praying mantis style as well as a few others. There is also supposedly sub categories of each. Here is one link I found after a quick google search.

I don't believe anyone knows if aliens are real or not. As far as I am aware there have been no alien bodies recovered or proof of alien ships aside from people claiming alien ships are kept in 'Area 51'.

Also, I never said people would discover aliens in the future. I said there is a possibility, and thats pending on if they truly exist or not.

However, I think most people believe in the existence of what we call aliens as they say we cannot, in all its billions of light years, be alone in this universe.

ND, you may see it that way because you are a person yourself. It would be a lot easier to see an evolution of a different creature other than your own race. Just like if you would live with your brother, lets say, all your life. If you would live with him all your life, you wouldn't see him change at all probably. But if you would stop seeing him for 10 years and then see him, you would see he looks completely different.

It's the same way with any living creature and evolution.

Well Jack, that's not really evolution of an alien. That's more like different species of alien, isn't it? It's probably more imagination than anything.

Nocna - If you say people haven't seen any real aliens, then there can not possibly be ANY chance of people discovering such a being in the future (as we know aliens now), because they simply don't exist. So it's either you believe aliens really exist and people have discovered them already (as we know them), or they don't and we will never discover an 'alien'.

Very well, then enlighten us. If you say that the human race has physically evolved over the last few millenia, tell us how. Have we as a race become taller, shorter, more muscular? How has the physical description of the average human changed?

They are changing as we speak and slow evolution of any species seems to be the norm.

We have evolved simply by the genes given to us by our ancestors. They evolve us physically, emotionally, spiritually, and every other way. Our planet changes everyday, and with that, people adapt and change aswell. If you say we haven't changed "lately", then how have we changed at all then? Are you saying people have not evolved at all? People are evolving each and every day, even if it's not visible to the naked eye. After 100 years though, you would see a change. Leave for the moon then come back to your home time in 100 years and find out. ^__~

It depends on who you ask.

If you ask someone who depends specifically on proof of alien existence, they'll say aliens aren't real. And in that way, there will be no possibility of discovering aliens to them.


But then if you go by those who say they've seen aliens and UFO's or have been abducted, then to them there will be a possibility of discovering aliens.

Those who have "seen" them and those who "believe" in aliens basically have the same image of an alien. You can't say something exists, but it doesn't...

Do you honestly think aliens are someone's imagination, or do you think people have actually discovered them, Nocna?

Gregory, I am not disputing the fact that the human race has evolved/is evolving. I'm saying that over the course of human history the base physical description of the human race hasn't changed a whole lot, just like the base description of aliens hasn't changed a whole lot over the course of history.

I don't doubt that alien races haven't evolved or are still evolving. What I AM saying is that because humans haven't seen a lot of physical changes because of evolution, why should we expect aliens to?

You see, people have pictures of 'UFOs' from back before pictures could be edited by a computer.

But then again, there are no proof of alien bodies or UFOs that have crash landed on Earth. And also there are so many stories and such that could have led to the people thinking they saw aliens and the like such as 'War of the Worlds' that they could have just been thought up by that.

I'm going to repeat myself and say because aliens are not of our race, ND. Aliens don't visit us every day, do they? We're not neighbors with aliens, are we? Aliens are a "rare" thing on Earth, so when they come every 10 years or so, I would expect to see some changes in them, because I haven't seen an alien in 10 years. We, however, have not changed our basic image of an alien for hundreds of years. Have aliens been exactly the same for hundreds of years?

So are you confused about the existance of aliens, Nocna? I personally believe aliens do exist, just not the way we think. I don't think they look anything like we think they look. But, I do think other life forms really exist and have visited Earth several times, and if we have really discovered them, they would have been seen evolved over the years and that would have been seen in cartoons, books, movies, ect.

I believe that anything that has a thought process can evolve. They had to figure out how to get to Earth and keep going as they are, so yes if they exist, I believe they can evolve.

And what I'm saying, Gregory, is why wouldn't they look the same, or leastwise simular enough where our basic understanding of what they look like stays the same?

I'm not disputing that they would evolve or change somewhat, but for extreme physical changes to occur in a species, it usually takes tens of thousands of years.

Many people believe that aliens have been on Earth before people, or even dino's, as I said in the description of this Thread. However, the image of the alien has practically been the same since we first "discovered" them.

That I am. There are so many possibilities out there as to what aliens truly are or if they exist or not. To me it's just a wait and see thing.

The image of the alien hasn't changed yet because aliens probably haven't changed a whole lot yet. Once again I say, it takes millienia for a species to evolve any drastic physical change, and they usually need a reason to do so.

I think aliens have been depicted on those stone thingers from ages ago. Just like animals, god, trees, people, beasts.. and so on. That was a few thousand years ago. To this day, aliens still have the same general figure. No great changes have been seen on aliens in thousands of years.

No, real aliens may not be "little green men" or "grays" but they just might. Their own home environments may have caused them to evolve into that state over millions of years because that may very well be the best way to survive on their home planet.

So far, scientists have been unable to find a planet that is EXACTLY like earth, so why would aliens from those other planets look like us? They'd probably at least look a little different.

But everything must evolve in order to change with their surroundings or they will die out.

If aliens really do exist, then I believe that they would have had to evolve just like every other living thing, or they could be like cockroaches, not much evolution there.

Yeah well, cockroaches don't really have to evolve. They're already pretty well suited to their environment.

This is also a point; however, the universe as a whole is ever changing as a result of the big bang, so why would a single world be immune to such change?

Because many times things don't change for thousands or millions of years. And sometimes its possible for something not to change at all over the course of years.

I think that over time all things will evolve, including aliens. As time goes on the world changes. In order to survive the creatures living on the planet will have to change in order to survive.

So during the time that humans have known that aliens exist, it is possible that the supposed alien world has gone through very minimal changes, therefore the way humans perceive the aliens has been pretty much the same since little evolution takes place.

I believe Hollywood has played a huge part in that perception of how a Alien looks.

It is very hard to prove that aliens do exist, but those who claim to have witnessed them describe them in similar ways. So they could either be telling the truth and aliens really look the same way that they are often being described, or they could be attention-addicts that just describe the usual alien because everyone else does and therefore it makes it more difficult to prove they're lying.

well as we have seen through time nothing stays the same forever. so i believe that they would indeed evolve.

Is we have or had been visited by aliens of some form or another, intelligent or not, I believe that they would eventually evolve if they remained and lived long enough.

The earth evolves, the creatures and plants on the earth are evolving, as well as the resest of the universe is evolving.

Aliens would be subject to the same changes.

It's hard to say because if you actually believe in aliens, it doesn't have to be the conventional small body big headed green alien... There could be all sorts of different looking aliens. I'm not saying that aliens are real but the universe is so vast and expansive that aliens couldn't really have one look... I think that the media just portrays a small green alien for merchandise and that sort of thing...
As for aliens evolving, no one is to say because no one really knows for sure. Of course there have been many legends or myths that aliens are among us and they can disguise themselves but that seems more of fiction to me... Er, science fiction. There could be some logic behind it but the possibilities are endless.

Everything need sto evolve in order to survive. As new problems arise, average temperatures change, species levels vary etc everything needs to evolve and change to suit.

I believe they would evolve exactly in that way in wich they are conducting their phisical and mental capacities, and of course, those would increase/evolve with time, wich would of course give every species, depends on their phisical and mental conduct, their own distinguishing phisical appearance/features.

I would presume that any living creature in the universe evolves... and that would include any sentient alien species. No matter how advanced a species is - it is always evolving...

... also remember, evolution is not moving with an "end state" in mind... it is constant adaptation to conditions...

As Evolution is defined as being universal then, if factual, it would apply universally to everything... including aliens. If however Evolution is not factual, then the question is made moot.

For everything there is evolution, If in fact aleins were here they would evolve like everything else. plants,animals and this earth all have gone thru changes over the course of mother earth life.

I agree, evolution is a survival method programed into each living species. Whether the evolution is mental or physically, I beleive, is dependent on the requirements of the environment.

Everything evolves over time, as we gain knowledge we move onto another level I would guess aliens would be the same.

So what if aliens have changed there looks in ages, mankind hasnt really changed that much over history either, yes we have lost a lot of hair and have learnt to stand up straight but thats about all (unless we go right back). However we have learnt to do things from the bending over to walking upright, from walking to flying planes the list goes on and on....thats evolution, we learn and progress.

I am a great believer in evolution and I can't imagine it being any different in any environment that has life in it, but you have to remember it takes a really long time. Humans haven't changed in millennia, most people wouldn't be able to tell apart a neanderthal from modern man on the street. Any alien changes would probably take an equally long time.
