Well, for those of us that use crystals or those that are new to the use of crystals and stones, how do you chose yours or do you let it chose you? I. myself when picking out a new crystal will pick up different ones and just go by feeling, some times I am drawn to a certain one, or sometimes a spell i am doing calls for a certain one. But generally I just go by how i feel when I touch it.

i when getting my crystals will pick them by what i sense energy wise in how strong it is and what kind of quality,i tend to go for the natural crystals that are from mines rather than the polished and sanded ones.

I as well, we are planning a vacation to NC and there are some mines that I want to check out.

The crystal will pick you. When you touch the crystals you will know which one is for you. Many can feel the vibes the crystal gives them when the hold it in their hand. My crystals are what feels right to me.

i think going to a crystal mind will be a great experience.in that you can find one that is untouched.

That is exactly the purpose. something directly from mother earth untouched. I think its going to be a great duation to my 11 year old as well, as it will be his first very own crystal that he picks.

I've never bothered with crystals. I guess I just never got into that kinda thing. What are they used for that makes them usefull?

in charmed / mojo/ medicine bags
placed at the cardinal points in a circle
certain spells and rituals call for different crystals/stones
to wear as a talismen
Scrying
some are used as pendalums
and some are jusy hung in a window charging for positive energy from the moon or the sun
So there are many different uses and many different kinds of crytsla. Me I am drawn to amethyst rose quartz and indian tears, but everyone has their own.

i didn't really pick them as much as i picked them
some it was by sight, i knew right away that was the one, others it was by feel, as others have mentioned

I have to confess, I'm also skeptical about crystals and their "powers". Why not simply use a rock?

I feel that if you are looking for a crystal when you pick it up the feeling will tell you.

I think that the crystal picks the person not the person picking the crystal. When you pick it up or what not you will feel if it is the right one for you.

I mostly always pick a crystal of my liking, and stick it in to my rectal opening, and if it fits, than I am sure that it is the right crystal for me.

It is not only looks that matter, but the functionality as well.

When I first picked up my crystal there was like a spark feeling and the energy level was intense.

From my experience at working at a Metaphysical Store & using crystals myself, I have found that you don't pick one, it picks you. If you hold your power hand over the crystals, it will be drawn to a certain one. And when you hold that crystal in your hand, sometimes your hand will shake.

Normally I just go withthe feeling that I get from the gem or crystal. It also depends on the purpose that is needed for the gem or crystal. I do agree with alot of the responses within the post on this as well.

When I buy a crystal I usually know which one I am looking for depending on its healing qualities then by the energies I get from holding it and also by the color and the purity of it.... When my son was very young he had an amazing give at choosing crystals, I use to go by his suggestions too!

I bet it would be really pretty seeing crystals natural and then picking it..

As with anything that I purchase or pick out, I go by feeling. Course, texture, the color, the light it catches, shape goes into it too. =)

i personally don't go by the looks because i feel it does not really matter how it looks since thats not gonna help in using the crystal,i go by the vibrations i get from it and the feeling,i know some crystals can have negative effects as well.

I normally dont by the looks either, the more natural the better in my opinion.

I dont use them,but I do like them..and when I choose one,it is based on what I feel at the time when I handle it.

i agree you should go by vibes and also the way it feels me i also check if i can connect with the crystal for serten things like taking or storing your own energy

thoe i know most go by vibes and feel i got this friend who is always pulled into each item she sees just by its shear beauty she swears ut calls her when after all it only looks pretty i know this because i know how she works the wheels in her head giggles as we walk into any store with gems just to see her spinning round gasping this one is pretty oooo no this is much prettier and so on then it boils down to whats in her pocket book

Truth is,they arent needed and neither is any other tool to accomplish manifest or protection.It takes a split second to do that,and no tool or herb or crystal .

you should pick up the crystal and let the crystal pick you. you'll get a feeling from it. depending on the feeling you get from it will help you decide

I don't use crystals or know much about it. I do have a chunk of Tigers Eye that my husband found once and gave to me that I find makes me feel warm and good inside. Is this a response to the stone? Does it have some kind of power for me? Or is it just because my hubby gave it to me? The reason he picked it out is because I refused to let him buy me a diamond for an engagement ring. I told him I would prefer a real stone like a tiger eye. He says when he saw this stone he had to buy it for me because the feeling was so strong. He wants to make it into a ring and/or bracelet for me, but I told him that I actually like it just the way it is. Is that weird?

I generally go by birthstones first, then all the genral quality ones, such as rose quartz and all that.

I had someone do the whole "alligning of chakras" thing on me ~ it was really relaxing and I got to keep my favorite stone afterwards :)

I would definitely like to get more into buying crystals, I would like to make a necklace out of some that feel special to me ^_^

I go by the feeling when i choose a crystal or stone.

I look for a crystal as required by a spell for a type but pick particular crystals by the one(s) to which I am drawn. These seem to be more attuned to my personal energy. I use the same technique when buying/gathering other articles to use in spells, such as athames, an altar cloth, or feathers or other natural symbols.

hmm i always see one that hooks my attention and if i can afford it at the moment i get it.of course i make sure to cleanse and charge the crystal once it's mine to my intention.

i bought a big quartz stone when i was travelling... one day i visited a fair and i was looking one to hang around my neck...
the guy had different stones on his table ... so i put my hand over them and started moving it...
i felt something special with the stone i bought... and i have it around my neck to repel bad vibes ...

Just pick what feels most natural to you. One that you're comfortable with.

I have many crystals, but do not have "one" that is my special one. Sometimes I am drawn to one certain crystal and I will sit and hold it, then realize it was just the one I needed for the occasion. They do draw you. I am usually wearing some kind of crystal pendant. They are soothing to the mind and spirit.

I do not work w/crystals but enjoy them. Glad to see I'm not nuts, others pick like me. The crystal just jumps into your hands,or you cann't leave it in the store feeling comes on you.

I use two different ways, it either draws me to it, or I will run my hand over them till I feel a connection and to be sure I try to move my hand away, if it goes back again then thats the one.

There is always a huge crystal faire here in rochester ny and i always find awesome stones and crystals there

On another note.... *smiles*....I do have one that I just recently found again that I purchased about 10 years ago...It's a rose crystal/quartz and it's supposed to heal your heart and reflect love......I lost it about 8 years ago.....Actually found it right before that New Orleans trip.....lol....Hmmmmm....lol....

Anyway, I'm glad I found it again.......

Everyone has a different way of either 'picking' or 'choosing' crystals. I honestly have two ways:

1) I pick up different crystals and 'feel' them, finding out how much energy each one has. Yes, crystals have energy in them, even though a lot of people handle them.

2) I check the crystals individually for 'inhabitants'. Crystals do have inhabitants that stabilize and help reinforce the crystal.


These are just my methods. If you have other methods you use, even better. These are the two that work best for me.

I also go by feel. Some just feel "right" in my hand, while others just feel like rocks.

As with everything in my life, I pick by feeling. Best way to go. =)

i use a little of both there are many crystals that have more than one enregy in them i pick one out of the group that i feel is right

well feeling is good...looking is good, but me it has to sing to me, ok don't laugh.
It sings in the sense when I pick it up an dhol dit, I feel a vibrating melody from it through my body, it enters my fiber, and I can ear it sing in my heart.

Pick one which feels right to you. If it doesn't, it's not right.

i set out some diffrent ones and when i touch each one if i get a certian feeling then i pick it

on another note bigger isnt always better with crystals either, granted i do have some that are large but most the ones I have are smaller i have ahuge chunk of tigers eye that sits on my desk myself im rather drawn to amethyst always have been

LadyDarkRayne, The place that you mentioned in NY sounds to be interesting. There is a place in Gatlinburg as well that you can actually mine for the gems and crystals. Raw and uncut.

The one stone that draws my attention is the Bloodstone. It has always been close to me. Like you with the tigers eye.

well its like choosing tarot cards its not the holder that chooses it is the cards or stones in this case all mine chose me except for the family tarot set that have been handed down to me

i good rule of thumb in shamanism and the occult is always follow your intuition... if you pick up a crystal and it feels right then take it

I think its a personal choice. For me the crystal picks me by drawing my energy.

It would appear tha 90% of us agree that the crystal picks us and not the other way.



Some of us are drawn to GOLD, while others quartz and tigerseye.

I pick crystals that feel right to me too. I think you have to pick them or let them pick you which ever way you want to look at it.

The only Crystal I have, found me while I was walking a trail in the woods!

i found them. i just know that when i touch them i get a feeling that i chosen correctly.

There are several places that one can go to get the gems or crystals. The fair like LDR mentioned, there are mining places within the Carolinas that you can actually go to and mine for them.

For me, as I stated before there are only two that I am really draw to. The bloodstone and the moonstone. I use all of the gems and crystals that maatch with the Chakra's and some that work for me but does not work with a certain Chakra.

I strongly believe that you have to go by feel when picking crystals. It does not matter where you get them as long as they feel right to you. If they feel bad avoid them. If they feel like a rock and nothing more only use these if you wish to put energy into them. Most people are attracted to one stone over another, just go with your first reactions.

I believe the crystal will pick you, and that you will know it when you see it, feel it, pick it up, or perhaps when you are drawn to it...

i have never picked a crystal they have always picked me i have picked up a fev at once and than put them down and i have been called back to one and knew i had to take it with me. so i would have to say it picks me.

are you suggesting dear that the crystal picks you?....i have gone out rock hounding and found crystals before, seems to me that is the way to aquire them not buying them in a store.

When I was introduced to the wiccan way years ago I was guided through the stage of crystals. Its a fact that when searching for crystal that the crystal actually finds you.

Yes dear, but some people are not as talented as you are with hounding and there for most fo to a shop or order their crystals from onlne shops. Hmm thinks maybe if you hunt them I will bring the mystics to them.

I have always been drawn towards crystal like there is something pulling me towards it and then I hold it my hand for a bit just to see if I get a feeling from it.

My experience has been to place the object..whether it be a crystal or an object...in my hand and feel the energy that is emitting from it. If it feels like a good, strong energy then that is the one that I would choose but if it had energy but just felt wrong then I would not pick it.

I've always gotten crystals based on how I felt when I held them.

I would hold my hands over the crystals and see if i feel something from them...
then pick each one up one by one
and the one that gives me the most vibes i will chose

Normally you would get drawn to one and when you hold it it feels good, this is because it has choosen you. You dont choose it.

Crystals pick you...... some of them are warmer than others... but you'll know which one is yours.

seeing the energy each holds and then holding them is the best way for me to choose which crystal I get..it goes for all the ones i use in spells or to put in the candles I make

I pick a crystal or rock because its pretty and I like they way it feels.

My guess would be when one hits you in the forhead thats a good sign that this cystal has choosen you.

Some crystals I am drawn to such a rose quartz a great crystal for matters of the heart, Tigers eye, great use to legal matters, agate all kinds of agate and amethyst, I have several treasured ones. Each carrying a specail meaning to me.Some crystals are just always cold t the touch for m, but when there is indeed a connection I can feel it strong

Wonderful discription Ade. You are right about the Obsidian as well. There are a few others that are that way also. The warm feeling and vibes or other may touch you to let one know that this is the right crystal or gem stone for you.

I think that when you pick a crystal, ou have to have a connection with it. I don't think you pick the crystal though, I think it picks you. Like tarot cards.
