By now you have all probably gotten wind of the story of the women who had puppies cloned from her former pitbull.
If not see this link.
My thoughts on this are, whatever makes you happy, I am ok with that. I don't know for sure if I'd even want that power, it can get out of hand but it would be tempting on many levels to have the option to clone.
On a deeper level, I am posing this to you all, as I have asked myself the very same thing. If there was a way you could clone someone who had just passed on or who you knew would soon pass on, would you do so?
This could be a pet or a person.
If so, why would you choose to do so?
if not, why would you not choose to do so?
Well, I had a pet die about 10 months ago, and if I was given the chance, I prolly would have cloned her.
But now, I don't think I would. The clone wouldn't have the same memories and actions and everything that you loved about the original.
Sure they would look the same...but I mean, wouldn't it be the same age as the one that was sick??
-Juggalette givin MMFWCL
No I would not, while I feel that stem cell research has a lot to offer us I find cloning somewhat immoral. I can see it getting out of hand and the world over populating at a rapid rate, its bad enough now as it is. I believe that everything happens for a reason.
I agree with Petal life is a circle its not ment to be mess with next they going to try doing it with people.
they thought clones are a copy of the original but it turned out that it does not work that way
A pet or a loved one, nah, that would be kinda creepy, after seeing them die and all, just would'nt be the same, but i would definantly get a clone of myself, i would do well with a couple more of me around here
people should stop messing with things that were not ment to be
to clone like bringing them back to life, huh pet cemetary comes to mind. the clone in my mind is still up in arms, for the process and the total outcome is still unpredicatable. what about cell mutation or any other bio that would create alter gentic pets or people.
No I am not for cloning. As mentioned earler they would look the same but would not be the same in any other way.
Also i can see cloning being used in the wrong way. I could see this leading to another hitler that would want to create what they think is thier own perfect race
i wouldn't clone a human, but i would clone an animal. I had a dog that i was very close to but my ex step-dad ran it over.
If you are lucky you would be able to teach it the same things as the original animal
I would clone my dog in two minutes i lover her that much.. But the question is would she be the same dog personality wise? i didnt raise her from a pup.. i adopted her..
my opinion on the whole thing is that its wrong, an animal maybe, but to do that with people just does not seem right, your messing with something that should not be messed with, like someone said earlier, life is a cycle, your born, you live, and you die, if you died but there was someone else just like you that takes your place, its not really you, do we know for sure they would have our same thoughts and feelings? what about memories? would they be there? I dont know if those are questions anyone can really answer
i think that if ther gods wanted two of that person, or pet, to be on this earth then they would have done so them sevles
and for the person part it would take to long because the clone would be a kid
Personally if the animal dies it dies it was it time to go to dog heaven or be reincarnated.
But cloning is a dangerous game that can have deadly force in the end because humans are trying to play a part that is not meant for them to play.
And you think a animal whats to keep going on after it has been done in??
what i would give to have my samson back i would have cloned him if i could i agree with animal cloning and organ cloning but not actual human cloning.
I would choose not to clone anyone.
It used to be that people were happy when they had a baby that was healthy. Today, they want to choose its sex, physical features and intelligence.
Now with cloning people want to clone their pets and people. As others have already mentioned, even if you could clone your pet physically--it's the emotional and mental bond that could not be duplicated.
Cloning for the purposes of helping in the medical field is fine; but we step over the line when there are people out there who want to play Frankenstein and when things are done for the purpose of making money.
The problem with today's world--scientific advances are taken to the extreme and we abuse the technology and knowledge we have to create for the wrong reasons.
I would vote no on the cloning as well.
My vote is based on the question I have - even if the clone was perfect physically.....where would the soul be? The soul that gives us animation, heart, morals, the ME in a body.
I do not think science has managed to clone that as of yet.
I would not mess with any cloning because it it was not ment to be
no, although they would look the same, it is not the same person, different soul
if i am not mistake i think that some one actually did clone seven human embryo's and allowed them to grow for one one week until they where destroyed. i will have to look for more on that. but i think i did hear that on the news.
The answer to most of this is "we don't know". Perhaps the personality would be different. This is just conjecture and as for a soul we don't know that either. It is a belief that people and/or animals have souls. I believe they do but not all believe that in the world. Does this make science "evil" now? If they have the technology of course they have to be regulated or you will have dinosaurs running amok all over the planet. I don't think we could control them and they probably wouldn't be some benevolent form but a big teethed meat eater.
Personally I think they should work harder on finding cures for diseases, genetic birth defects and other birth defects, autism which is now an epidemic and eradicating nasty viruses. I believe geriatrics is another area that needs to be addressed and generally improving the quality of life that is already existing.
I could see cloning a body part so you would have the right compatable organ or whatever for your body if you needed a transplant but I'm unsure what I think of cloning animals and humans.
I couldnt clone my animals as everyone is special and i dont think i can replace any of them and cloning to me is really replacing them for your own selfishness.
Well this is very intresting tho highly costly tho tg they didn't charge the ladie 150k that would be wow yikes tho 50k is still hella expencive for a dog @_@. I think this is just the tip of the iceburg to what they do next.
The big question from cloning - does the personality/memories come along or just a duplicate with a clean slate?
Can see people wanting to clone race horses or prized steers, dogs, etc.
Cloning certain things like samples left from extinct species would be a benefit to science and mankind.
Why not clone parts for transplant? See nothing wrong with that, just not a whole person to be cut up and used - that would be wrong.
Very well put Darkestdesire. To clone parts would be benificial, yet to clone a human or pet is tampering with forces of another kind. We donot know what may happen phisically or logical to understand this. May become violent, or ilogical, or the clone may start deterating within because of wrong procedures. we donot know it all yet.
Not sure how procedures/science has progressed since Dolly the sheep was cloned. She was healthy and happy, but had a much shorter life span.
I feel that is wrong and messing with something that shouldn't be it will at some point end up bad
Ever see steven kings Pet cemetery?!
When we saw that, we had a discussion about it. We would consider it. We are still heartbroken from losing our beloved Scooby. If it wasn't so expensive we would. Some family members disagree and so just adopt a animal from the ASPCA.
I would choose not to clone anyone...no matter how much their DNA would be the same....your soul would not be. We always joke about cloning my moms dog for her but he wouldn't be the same dog...
Someone else mentioned that though they may look the same they would be different due to how they were raised and I believe that too, it's our experiences that make us who we are, and in changing any of those things would make them a different person.
Also I think that once you start messing with nature, it can only led to disaster, also where do we draw the line?
Serious answer:
I think cloning people and animals is wrong on a moral level. It raises serious problems about individuality and the soul. I believe that people and animals are given one life to try and make the best of things, regardless of how short that life may be.
I do think that it is only a matter of time until they clone a person though. For all we know, some group working in secret may have done this already. One of the big questions about people is if we are born with our personality or its shaped by what we experience. Cloning a person would definitely answer this question.
As for cloning organs, I see no problem with that. Individual organs are not considered life. For me, its more like swaping out a bad tire on a car.
Stupid answer:
Cloning raises serious dilemmas. For example, if you clone yourself and then make out with your clone, are you gay or just masturbating?
I would not.
They would look the same but there is no guarantee they would be the same in any other way and something about that concept seems morally or ethically wrong.
look for example at hollywoods take of cloning or bilogical tampering and what the outcome may be. I donot wish to be cloned or anything else. i take the stand of not just a religious point but a scientific stand of messing with sometghing we could not understand in the latest. During the war time Nazi's tampered with bio chemicals to perfect the perfect soldier. i just plain think that somethings should be not messed with.
I honestly don't think that I could clone a loved one or a pet. It just wouldn't be the same. Feelings wouldn't match up and so many things could possibly go wrong.
I would have to agree with the post above me somethings are just better left alone. ^_^
I think as long as its a pet ok, but as far as trying to clone humans....I wouldnt do it, its just wrong in my opinion.
I might clone a pet, but I would never want to clone a human wither it be a friend or family. I wouldn't be able to go through the pain of loosing the person, then have them come back only for the clone to die again someday. A pet I might..but probably not.
I say animals yes but humans no way.. Sorry no one will clone me thank you kindly..I mean i am a individual..
No i wouldnt because as human we are meant to pass on. dont get me wrong my father was my best friend, my rock, my confidant, so on and so on. I loved him as he was i am not sure i could have the same relationship with a clone of a person.
I think to each his own but for me I am not on the keen Idea of playing God.And if we keep messing with and altering our D.N.A. in wich cloning dose a little bit the more of the demand the more out of hand it will become.
And one time a human clone was done but they called it a twin and this little boy was soul perpose to save his sister

this is disturbing
I thought instead of me telling it id post it.
and I think in a way this is the next step after they suceed cloning animals
I agree with most people here.... we were not created this way...... although science may be leading to these discoveries, they are not natural. As history has shown the technology we create often ends up in the wrong hands.
Cloned pets even well messed up experiments would be cool I think.
A two headed dog or worse …. Great stuff.
We need to advance and no matter what you feel… somewhere out there is a clone lab with humans… I remember a report on one… I think she is 8 years old by now… must look for info again
I dont think cloning would be a ggod idea.Especally a human.Ido believe humans have souls. If they where to be cloned I dont think they would have a soul
dont they want to clone cows now. to sell clone meat at the supermarket
if we're talking about a pet i think id clone it but to do it with a person just seems wrong to me...i feel like if it was successful it wouldnt be worth it because that person wouldnt be the same person you cared about before they passed...i mean i dont think you could clone they're memories and personality
i think the uk and usa are gonna be the first to start on the clone meat
Honestly, if I had a pet I really loved, I'd probably have it cloned. I get that close to pets.
If I was dying young and it was too late, I'd clone myself and have the doctors try to fix the problem.
We're already using cloning technology to re-create body parts like ears, fingers, etc. Humans and internal organs aren't far behind.
As for the new Star Wars movie, I can't wait to see it.
I am not sure if cloning people is right. and i also want to see the new star wars movie
I think more than a pet, people would want to clone a child. They have based fictional movies on this theme. It was a way to get past their grief. I think it is always hard for an adult to accept the death of a child. It seems so senseless. I don't know if I would do it if I could. The problem I think here would be your personal religious views if you had any about it and the nature of the soul. Would they have one if you did this? Metaphysically I have been told the soul enters the body just before birth. True or not true it is a delema for anyone who is religious minded. I can't even imagine what a cloned person would be like and then I worry would man dehumanize them because we created them. Would there be a whole race of slaves created? There could be scary ramifications to human cloning. I think if all it should be done with endangered species when they are down to just a handful.
most people have their pets spayed or neutered these days, so cloning them would be the only option left to carry on the line. many animals are an endangered species these days (many have vecome extinct since i was a child) so again cloning would be a good way to help the species survive.
but humans? a clone is not the same being but a genetic copy. are we not more than our genetic template? part of who we are is formed by our experiences. to clone a loved one would be like having that loved one still with you, but with a completely different personality and no memory of you. that would be even more heartbreaking than their dying.
also, when we mate with another person to create a baby, we are introducing variations into the gene pool. if you look at the results of severe inbreeding, you see the importance of this. if cloning becomes commonplace, our evolution will stagnate and take a downward spiral, so eventually the human race would become a race of idiots.
okay - who's been cloning for the past couple of centuries?
he thing with cloning is they may look similar but they won't retain the same inforamtion or personality we become who we are through experiances we've had so the clone of "jimmy" wouldn't have the scar that he got when he was 5 so its not the same person. and if we were to clone a lover you would have to rasie it from a baby its on the bondaries of peodophillia and in the end they might be someone completely different its like identical twins they are not the same in mind
if i could i love to clone myself then one would be at home with the kids and one would be at work, and i woluldn't feel so stretched in being everywhere at the same place at the same time.
I dont think cloning is right. It is playing around where we dont belong. The making of any being should be left for nature only
we should find out how to clone gas so it isn't so much.
I personally would choose not to clone a person, or a pet, which was dear to me. I like the idea of seeing my loved ones again, but I understand that they have passed away, and that the return of their image for me to see it again, would not mean their true return, but a copy repetition of their unique biological material, which served them at that point of their original souls inhabiting them, which means that I cant recall their soul by merely cloning their body again, and with that those clones are not them, no matter how matching their physical bodies and faces are. Why live in illusion. It is better to accept how the things are, not tricking ones perception that the loved ones have returned, and to continue that illusion, because they are really not them, no matter how they seem, with memory imprints even, they(clones) are not truly them.
I don't think cloning humans or pets is natural and we still don't know what long terms effects the clone will have.
No, because then we'd have weresheep everywhere.
(Movie called Black Sheep and no, not with Chris Farley and David Spade)
But personally, no. If they died it was for a reason. Say it was a perfect clone. What if they had a gentic problem that caused their death? would they die again? Or if they had memories of their death still. What if they died horribly? Or commited suicide? It would cause too much pain.
they wamt to start test it in the usa-uk within the next 5 years
Cloning is against free will. What if that person wants to die, it's not your choice. I also think that is slightly creepy, shadows of the past.
people will use cloning to hold on to the people they have lost. cloning will cop a lot of bad press down the line
Yes I agree.
Cloning is like playing God or something. Some people will seek to destroy it.
I'd never clone a pet. Rather start with a new personality. Feel the same way about people. Karnstein summed up my views. That said, I'm still interested in the science of it, and support stem cell research.
I see nothing wrong about cloning, body might look like the same but soul probably wont be!
I don't know if you think about it what about cloning to save the one dieing. People die from needing of parts if you cloned yourself wouldn't you have the part you need to fix issues. No issues with rejection cause it would be exactly the same.
Not only am I for cloning, I embrace the idea wholly. There was another thread talking about immortality. Think of this. You clone yourself, or at least key parts of yourself, vital organs. Later in life, you have those parts replaced when they wear out, or get diseased. You lengthen your life. You will not have to worry about your body rejecting them, because they came from you. Cloning of animals, for food, for the revival of exstinct species, yes. Cloning of humans, like I said, just certain vital organs. As to whether we are supposed to do it or not. If we never went against the grain, we would still be in Europe, because the world is flat. We have the technology, we have the right to use it. Like any application, it is how we use it that is the key. They technology isn't "evil", it is the abuse of it's application.
funny you made this post as i lost a very good dog i had saved his baby teeth when they fell out as suvineres and after he passed i dont know why but i got an envolope and put his teetth in it got his brush and took his hair and his pic and sealed them up and wrote clone this dog one day ... but my boy friend said that dog would not be my beloved dog as a person is made up of memerys and personal exp so is that dog what if the owner of the clone raised the dog differant thought it differant tricks or abused it in one life but not the other the personalitys would be so differant ....like if i my self would be cloned in todays techknowledgey i would not be usen a note book to learn like in the 70's but a computer that we use today soooo i would be a differant person if cloned soooo i kinda think its a judgement call if you want to look at someone just for looks and that is shallow go for it and with all the diseases and illness if a clone has same DNA i would not wish my 4 rounds of cancer on another ever so i guess i would say its a bad bad idea
I would all for just cloning your organs by themselves, but not a whole person, because now, that person is alive, and they are independent from you in every way expect psychical makeup.
They would have different dreams, goals, needs, loves, etc.
So, now you need their heart. Are you just going to kill this equal human being?
Being a clone doesn't mean he's lesser of a life form, he's a human being too, he just came into the world a little differently, that's all.
it may be the same dna but its not the same person with the same memories and peronality...
sweetblooded,
Re: "eople die from needing of parts if you cloned yourself wouldn't you have the part you need to fix issues."
I suppose the other side of that is that if I were a clone, I probably wouldn't want anyone taking my parts to fix the original. clones are feeling, sentient creatures.
But I don't think I'd want to clone a pet. It wouldn't be the same. With a pet you develop memories and accept them for their personality, not just the body.
no way one life if you die and get rencarnated then more if not then too bad
NO i've have two very very dear people to be pass away, back when it happened i might have gone for it, i was naive. But knowing what i know now I wouldn't do it, I want them to be them not a clone! I don't want them to be fake! so I would have to say no
in the UK we got molly the sheep cloned from its self obviously! but the top fashion designers wont use its wool coz its not original its just a cheap knock off !!!
I would not want to clone any thing that has past or has not passed because I could not deal with the lost of them again
I would not ever clone a person or an animal no matter how much I loved that person. Sure, you get the person or pet to look the same, but they would not have the same personality or the same memories or anything. So it wouldn't really be the same person.
my answer in i would not clone any being and the reason is i do not wish to play "GOD" pass on that responsibility.
I agree with TrollQueen
I wouldn't want to try to play God it's not my right to
Human beings may have the technology to clone, but the question is, do they have the right?
To quote Stan Lee: "Great power comes with great responsibility."
I am of two minds on the whole cloning thing. I dont agree with cloning pets (Re-pet from 6th day comes to mind lol). I had a cat over a year ago that had died and despite the fact that she was a beloved family pet and I still miss her intensly I would not have had her cloned (if I had that kind of chump change just laying around sheesh) 12 years ago when I had spoken to the aspca the cat to human ratio was 44:1, much much higher now. Im not sure what the dog to human ratio is but the amount of animals euthanized because of lack of homes is astronomical. cloning a litter of a beloved pet is just wrong on that level alone. What made a persons pet special are the circumstances that happened to that person and that pet. Cloning people is just as wrong for the same reason.
However... Im all for cloning just body parts...for cornea transplants, kidney transplants, heart transplants, rare blood types etc. But if you give an inch there some one some where is bound to take a mile.
I would because you love that person or thing so much you can't live without them. They would have the same personality and everything you can always make new memorys.
~Katana~
Question: What does she do them when these puppies (hopefully) grow but eventually die, clones them again!? With reproduction around, which is course is a superior method of multiplication, I see cloning as pointless unless of course needed, but this is the only why we should possess the technology.
I just personally feel like nature isn't something that should be fucked with. So I would not want to clone someone or a something. Cause I don't know it just seems like yeah sure if you close to someone and lose them and want to clone them to have them back your filling a void in your life that isn't meant to be filled. And really they person that you cloned, the clone isn't really them, So I guess you could just call it a false sense of security. And in some ways seems like it would do more damage then good.
No matter how much I love someone I would never Clone them if or when they pass away. They would never be the same.
I dont believe that cloning is wrong or anything like that but again this is just mankinds way of medling with nature and one day it will come back and bite us. I believe if a pet or loved on passed away let them go remember them for who and what they where.
People and pets die for a reason.
They should remain that way.
Loss is a part of life. Without that loss what would we learn. Nothing.
life ends for a reason ya shouldnt try replacing the person or pet with a clone
I would choose not to...
First and foremost, even if you clone a pet like a cat or a dog, there are developmental traits (coloring, patterning) that are not transfered over to a clone (take CC, or Copy Cat, the first cloned cat - he looked nothing like his genetic twin). If it's not going to be an exact physical "copy", you've already invalidated the main reason for cloning.
Second, people and animals are the sum total of their experiences. Just because they are genetically identical, doesn't mean they are the same person or creature any more than identical twins are the same.
Bascially the pet cloning industry is there to dupe the grieving into forking over huge sums of cash in the misguided and impossible dream of reproducing a lost pet.
the clones are coming, dosent matter if we like it or not.
NO your dead your dead. No way someone will be exactly the same.
No I wouldn't clone anyone or anything it is not ethical. Also the person/pet wouldn't be the same as the one that died their would be differences in the personality and behaviour.
If given the chance I wouldn't clone a pet that has passed away because although it would look the same it wouldn't be the same and I'd be afraid of any abnormalities arising.
Cloning just preserves the physical form - many pedigre pets are so inbred that there genetics are relatively easy to find
No, losing loved ones or pets is a natural fact of life.
It seems to me that we cherish the relationships of this life so much because they a fleeting and momentary. If you could clone exact duplicates of loved ones or pets, I believe we run the risk of losing respect for those relationships that are so important to us.
I don't think I could do it. I was devastated when my cat, Ashes passed on. It wouldn't be the same cat and sure, I could love the clone as a new cat (he wouldn't have the same personality as Ashes, I'm sure of it), but when the clone died, I would be put through the same emotional ringer. While that is true whenever you get a new family member, having it even look like a lost beloved member (be it animal or human) would make it even harder on you.
I think cloning is not a good idea. Given mankinds history on things I believe it would be abused. Like body farms and such. I would love to have my grandma back and my favorite pets, I don't believe they would be a carbon copy of the orginal.
I wouldn't do it. It would bring back memories, good and bad, but I wouldn't want to. The bad memories would make me upset, and angry and what not. I would want to keep the good memories only, and remember the person/pet the way he/she was.
I also agree with the person above me. It would be abused, and there would be dire consequences for all of us.
I'm not one to pay God here, but cloning animals might be beneficial in some respects...renewable resource indeed
should we be able to clone people? theoretically yes,
should we? no, that's messing far too much with things we don't and shouldn't understand
yea really, it can benifit im sure, but weaken the dna structures im sure, or just cause more risks in health

I wouldn't do it. All it does is drag out the pain. Clones can't live as long and the more you try to clone the pet, the more you see it die... It's just kind of crazy....
