The Following Is A List Of Different Legends I Found, Now Since There Alot Of Legends I Want To Know If The Rules Of A Vampire Apply To Them, Such As Sunlight Killing Them , They Only Have Eyes That Change Ect.
And Why Do We Only Accept The European Version Of Vampires.

List From....

http://www.geocities.com/jptempleuk/SBN/rules/vampire_legends_from_around_the_.htm

Check Out The Different Types And Decide For Yourself.

Asanbosam:

African. Asanbosam are normal vampires except that they have hooks instead of feet. They tend to bite their victims on the thumb.
Baital:

Indian. These vampires natural form is that of a half-man, half-bat creature roughly four feet tall. They are otherwise unremarkable.
Bajang:

Malaysian. The bajang normally take the form of polecats. They could be enslaved by sorcerors and forced to kill the sorceror's enemies, and some families were believed to be hereditarily stalked by the bajang.
Baobhan Sith:

Scottish. The baobhan sith (pronounced buh-van she) are evil fairys who appear as beautiful young women and will dance with men they find until the men are exhausted, and then feed on them. The baobhan sith can be harmed and destroyed by cold iron.
Callicantzaros:

Ancient Greece. According to Greek legend, a child born on Christmas will become a allicantzaros.

These vampires often appear in half-human, half-animal shapes.
Ch'ing Shih:

Chinese. Ch'ing shih appear livid and may kill with poisonous breath in addition to draining blood. If a Ch'ing Shih encounters a pile of rice, it must count the grains before it can pass the pile. They can be harmed and destroyed by normal weapons and by sunlight. Their immaterial form is a glowing sphere of light, much like a will-o'-the-wisp.
Civateteo:

Mexican. These vampire-witches held sabbaths at crossroads and were believed to attack young children and to mate with human men, producing children who were also vampires. They were believed to be linked to the god Tezcatlipoca.
Dearg-due:

Irish. The dearg-due is a standard European vampire, except that it cannot shapeshift and may be defeated by building a cairn of stones over its grave.
Empusa:

Ancient Greece and Rome. Empusas appear as either beautiful women or ancient hags. They are strongly related to the incubi and succubi (q.v).
Ekimmu:

Assyrian. These are vampires of the spirit variety. They are naturally invisible and are capable of possessing humans. They can be destroyed by using wooden weapons or by exorcism.
Hanh Saburo:

Indian. These creatures live in forests and can control dogs. They will attempt to lure or drive travellers into the forest to attack them.
Incubus:

European. Incubi (plural of incubus) are sexual vampires. They are spirit vampires of a demonic nature. They may enter homes uninvited and can take on the appearance of other persons. They will often visit the same victim repeatedly. A victim of an incubus will experience the visits as dreams. The female version of an incubus is a succubus
Jaracara:

Brazilian. Normally appearing as snakes, jaracara are said to drink the milk of sleeping women as well as their blood.
Krvopijac:

Bulgarian. Krvopijacs (also known as obours) look like normal vampires except that they have only one nostril.They can be immobilized by placing wild roses around their graves. One way to destroy a krvopijac is for a magician to order its spirit into a bottle, which must then be thrown into a fire.
Lamia:

Ancient Greece and Rome. Lamias are exclusively female vampires. They often appear in half-human, half-animal

forms and eat the flesh of their victims in addition to drinking their blood. Lamias can be attacked and killed with normal weapons.
Loogaro:

West Indies. Appearing as old women, these vampires go abroad at night as blobs of light, much like the will-o'-the-wisp.
Mulo:

Serbian. Mulos normally appear as people wearing white clothes. They are active both day and night, and can assume the shapes of horses or sheep. They eat their victims in addition to drinking their blood. Mulos are also known as Vlokoslak.
Nosferatu:

Central and Eastern European. The "traditional" vampire described in Dracula. Most vampires appearing in movies and books are of this sort.
Rakshasa:

Indian. The Rakshasas are powerful vampires of the spirit variety. They usually appear as humans with animal features (claws, fangs, slitted eyes, etc.) or as animals with human features (flattened noses, hands, etc.). They often appear as tigers. In any form, rakshasas are powerful magicians. They eat the flesh of their victims in addition to drinking blood. Rakshasas may be destroyed by burning, sunlight, or exorcism.
Strige:

Eastern European. These are "birds of ill omen" who will attack people at night, with a whole flock of strigoi sometimes attacking a single victim. The strigoi use their long,sharp beaks to peck holes in their victims and drink their blood.
Vampyr:

Serbian. The vampyr is naturally invisible, but can be seen by animals or by a dhampir. A dhampir is the (living) offspring of a vampyr, and is capable of seeing vampyrs and of harming them physically. Dhampirs would often hire out to destroy vampyrs. Vampyrs cannot shapeshift
Vrykolakas:

Medieval Greece. Described as being "swollen" and "distended," vrykolakas can walk in daylight without being harmed. The vrykolakas may only call to be let into a specific house once a night. In addition to sucking blood, vrykolakas also cause nightmares. They may be destroyed by exorcism or burning. In Crete, they are called kathakano.
Wampir:

Polish and Russian. Wampiri appear exactly as normal humans and have a "sting" under their tongue rather than fangs. They are active from noon until midnight. A wampir may only be destroyed by burning. When the wampir is burned, its body will burst, giving rise to hundreds of small, disgusting

animals (maggots, rats, etc.). If any of these escape, then the wampir's "spirit" will escape as well, and will later return to seek revenge. These creatures are also called vieszcy and upierczi.

ah, i just read the rest of the question :-P
There's a difference between hollywood "vampires" and real life "Vampyres". They say vampires are immortal, in real life, vampyres are not, we may have a more abnormal duration of life, living for around 100 years though. Some of us still have the trait of growing fangs, but seeing as how in modern day use, donors now cut themselves for us, meaning there is really no use for fangs. we can't transform into bats, that's just silly. and sometimes, maybe like when the beast comes out, our eyes can change.

That Is Part Of The English Version, And I Really don't Think Vampires Hunted Only In Monarchy, In Fact It Would Be absurd To Think They did At all, Since It Would Be Better To Drink From A Commoner Because They Would Not Be Missed So Much.

As in this replicated Society we share here, there are distinct Levels and 'pecking orders', owing largely to longevity, so thus it would be assumed that the more 'seasoned' Creatures Of the Night, with many centuries behind them ad greater powers as a result, would be of Higher Kind.

well like my teacher once explained to me back when he was taught in school (what years they were im not sure i think he was around 40) america was very one sided where a lot of the history taught was mostly only european, since thats where most white americans came from most of our understandings of myths and ledgens are most likely from theirs.

and no if these legends are true then no there are no equal vampire i mean if you had a country surrounded by desert whether and then a country like greenland they would not have simialiar rules like sunlight issues because of the drastic difference in the enviroment also like crimsonscarab said humans are not all made equally and most of that is due to the different enviroments as well

And Why Do We Only Accept The European Version Of Vampires?

I do not think this is an accurate statement. First, some of the counties you mentioned having other types of Vampires of are part of Europe (i.e., Bulgaria, Ireland, Scotland, Rome (Italy).

Second, people who are truly into the history of Vampires in Lore (and who have read several of the forum topics here in VR) would be famliar with more than just the Central and Eastern European version of Vampires.

The vampires that we (and I am speaking as being from the US) are most familiar with were brought to us from the lore of Central and Eastern Europe. As explained in another thread, Vampires were not known to the colonies until the late 1800's when they were used to explain a strange phenomenon that was plaguing America--consumption; it was supposedly a person claiming to be a "Doctor" (name unknown) of Eastern European origin who brought this information.

I believe the reason behind the different stereotypes of Vampires is more of a cultural difference as each has their own versions and representations of the undead and for their own particular reasons.

Native Americans have their own versions of Vampires, to include:

The Apotamkin, U`tlûñ'ta and Jumlin.

I think alot of it depends on the person bieng transformed, we are not all the same as mortals why wouold we be the same as vampires, and most of hollywoods versions of the vampire is an portral to make the movies more gory and special effects, so we can not take this for gossip.

Just another thought--my previous post was more geared towards the different breeds of Vampires in various cultures--for this one I'll get into the point of Vampires being created equal.

Vampires are not created equal. Each has different personas, demeanors, physical/mental attributes, powers, levels of humanity, etc.

A few factors (there are more) that may determine the type of and how strong and or affluent a Vampire he/she becomes may be:

1) The individual they were and how they lead theirs lives when human;
2) The Vampire that embraces them;
3) Generation;
4) Inherited and learned abilities/powers/disciplines;
5) Bloodline (Mortal family);
6) Bloodline (Sire);

White Wolf Vampires are also having different acquired appearances, disciplines and such depending on the Clan they are embraced into.

Regarding sunlight--the first vampire that had a weakness to and was "turned to ashes" by sunlight, was Count Orlock in Murnau's Nosferatu. Some said this is one of the changes Murnau made due to circumvent copyright issues.

Strengths, Weaknesses, Merits and Flaws of each type of vampire is left to the imagination of the writer/creator......

i believe each is different. first as has been stated we are not the same when we start out, so the person who is turned has their own unique abilities.

second the vampire who turned them has their own unique abilities that they received from the one who turned them and so on.

it is a never ending cycle, for we are not the same in life why would that change in death. the similarities might be unable to go into sunlight or the need to feed, but i believe that is where the similarities end.

they are created equal so they can make the decision to kill this way or that way, to hunt or not to even exist or deny their nature, the creation is nothing more then a combination of molecules and atomes who have no will or mind to decid what they want to do, they only exist to allow the one created to decid.

I'm no scholar, especially when it comes to vampires, but from what I've learned on here so far, I would say that Vampires are very much individuals with some similar traits. But they are not all created equally. I am fascinated by all your references to other cultures beliefs. Thank you for this post.

as far as "being created equal" goes, i think that matters entirely only which mythology you believe in or who's fictional story you are reading. it seems to me every time i see a vampire movie or read a book involving vampires, they each have their own characteristics or powers.
you'll recall in "Interview With the Vampire" that there a special mention is made from Lestat for Louis to "read someone's thoughts" but Louis could not and that each vampire had a certain set of "talents" which was not necessarily gifted to all. so clearly in Anne Rice's "universe" NOT all vampires were created equal.
Also, in the "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" universe, some vampires are able to use "thrall" (re: Lothos in the movie and The Master in season 1) but not all, and Dracula in the "Buffy-verse" (season 5) was able to shape-shift into a bat and mist but these were special skills he had acquired and not typical of the vampires in the Buffy-verse.
Also, in the Dracula novel, Dracula is clearly the most powerful of the vampires seen in the story. yes, his brides are powerful, but not as much as their master, and after Lucy is "turned", she is only able to feed off of a baby, nevermind skillfully hunting a full grown man.
And even Dracula himself has been known to vary in strengths and weaknesses depending on who is interpreting the story. sometimes his fangs grow to feed, other times he has them perpetually, sometimes he needs the dirt of his homeland, others it isn't even mentioned, sometimes the sun kills him and sometimes he is only mildly weakened.
and in the comic book MAGE there is a supernatural creature who seduces and feeds off the "sidekick" character. she takes on the form of girl he likes and uses a stinger under her tongue to suck the life out of him slowly, and over time. i think the writer was going for more of a succubus type than vampire type, but looks like he blended a couple of myths to suit his own story, which many writers often do.
and this is probably why we get so many varied accounts and mythologies of what a vampire is exactly. people change things in accounts make them more interesting or scary or simply to suit the needs of the story.
i seem to have gotten a bit tangled up in my chain of thought, but hopefully you see what i mean...

In response to the post "But As Far As Vampires Go We Are More Geared toward The Bram Stocker-Hollywood Types."

I would reiterate such as statement with, as far as Vampires go, I am more geared...Instead of the we, you do not speak for all within any community, merely for yourself.

This thread reaches a couple of differant areas of conversation and discussion, are we discussing the political natures, the legend, or the communicable stand point that many within society live by in their own ideals and beliefs?

Personally, no creature under any sun or moon is created equal unless we are discussing individual rights whereby political agenda's are born.

BECAUSE, we have linked the fictional vampire to the folkloric. We have extrapolated from that because Bram Stoker changed the name and location of his dang book prior to printing. The book was so popular that it became the yardstick for what the vampire is and that was Eastern European. Many people think that since he used Dracula for the title somehow that miraculously turned a real person into a vampire. Sort of like guilt by association. Much of the folklore comes actually from the Gypsies in that region. Tracing the language of the Roma they are believed to have originated in India. That is where I would look for older tales. It is impossible to sort out fact from superstition. Some of those stories have been handed down orally for centuries until a folkorist gathered them and put them in a book. That is what foklore means...stories of oral tradition. Its like anything else...a name for something changes by language. Banana in English and Plantain in Spanish (not all places), black in English and Noir in French...same thing...different word or application.

Many don't realize that some things put in that book were thought of for the first time. For instance fangs on a vampire. It was his idea because he looked into the werewolf legends and sort of blended them together via things Baring-Gould wrote about. Many cultures have creatures in their lore that could be loosely called by the name Vampire if that is your favorite word to describe them. It would depend on the superstition of the area or if fiction, the writer if sunlight bothered them.

I guess that all depends on who's writing the story, eh? Anne Rice will tell you one thing, Stephenie Meyer will tell you another. Then you can go ask Mark Rein-Hagen.

when you're finished with that, make up your own story.

rank would only be put into effect in a society of vampires yet many to me would be loners and territoral. the vampire being equal never, we all as mortals and such are different, strengths and weakness and this would play into a vampire and his being. for if we turned would we not be the same yet a learning process for the powers we would fall before another that has many years turned. there is no logical answer for like the saying is said," never under estimate your opponent" a rule from the streets to society.

I planned on saying something similar to what PsiVampire said last about vampires strengths being effected by many factors such as the person they are and the vampire who gave them the gift of immortality. I you had a strong unconquerable spirit as a human, than attitude will remain apart of you, and likewise if you were a push-a-round. Also, if you were turned by a full blood vampire then you would of course be more powerful than if you were turned by young vampire who just decided to snack on you in an alley.

With all the difference in the descriptions of vampires that vary from country to country.... I think much of it has to do with some civilizations being more dramatic than others. Also could have to do with some parts of the descriptions being lost or over emphasized in translation from language to language.

Vampires are not equal in their abilities. And it is difficult to compare different cultural variations because they have totally different attributes. European vampires are the more familiar to this audience then Asian or other blood sucking beasties. We are more likely to think of a human looking vamp, who has fangs, is nocturnal, and immortal. The abilities of these vampires are what supernatural powers they possess, and these powers are their offensive and defensive capabilities. One able to turn into mist and float away would have the advantage over one who does not.

well all 5 elements contribute equally to the formation of the vampire. nature and range changed due to the changes in the nature, weather and formation of the Gigantic Creation. the nature & range changes person to person due to nature and mouldings it get from surroundings.

say one person is normal and remain normal just like me. and one person art c f p exercises and become highly psychic of honorable class.

Equal; what a strange word to apply to anything.

Equal is a definition of a relationship... which is all a matter of perspective. I think that the only perspective that matters is when coordinate one significantly affects coordinate two; but is, in return little affected by it's effect.

One vampire would need to give it's authority to another to be considered lesser, and that probably only from the perspective of the submissive. Anyone submitting to someone who alleviates their fear (parental/leader/authority) is an example of this type of submission of equality. Another type of submission would be to someone claiming to be a victim, as they have relenquished equality to someone whose purpose was probably to do exactly that.

Most vampire types (cross cultural) would have no effect on any of the others... so they are equal.

Within this forum the various vampire types have little effect apon each other, psy, sangue et al have no unhealthy (unequal) relationship with each other except where one tries to overbear ones superiority over anothers (usually unsuccesfully... which is emensely funny) or when a group of Vamps as a whole generally imply to another group of vamps that they are inferior (*cough*LARP*cough*.)

However in the world we live in today (and through history) equality seams to be a paranormal experience to most.
