I'm seeing more and more threads along the lines of Why don't people understand me blah blah nonsense... While this type of blabber seems more prevalent with newcomers to the gothic lifestyle, those who have lived the lifestyle for a while have little patience for it.

If you choose to live outside of the norm, you choose everything that goes along with it. That includes criticism, lack of understanding, and in some cases, harshness.

Whiners give goths and vamps a bad name.

If you don't like criticism, blend in with everyone else. No one will notice you.

If you want to express yourself, understand that along with expression comes disapproval and condemnation. It is the price. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. While you might think it would be nice if everyone sang campfire songs and got along without disagreement, that’s not how the real world works. People of similar belief generally get along better than those with dissimilar belief.

People need to learn these things in their own good time. And seeing that we are adding more more younger members each day, it will become more on going.

They do hold some appeal in these threads as they keep coming back to the top of the pile with more frequency.

Hehe Khayman, I like the "priceless". And I agree with cancer, but is there really a 'normal'? I mean we are all different and thats what makes the world go round. Who has a definition of normal for me? Are we talking a group of people with the same or similar ideas? Then no one is truely different or alone. You have just not found your nich yet is all. I have always prided myself on being diferent. I dont need to follow a crowd for acceptance. As long as you are happy with ones self, thats all that should matter.( just my opinion)

very true cancer if they r so uncomfortable with the way people r treating them either learn to say f*ck you to the person or change back to the way u were cuz alought we will help u deal with it every other thread being i don't undertand why no one likes me boo hoo boo hoo suck it up. most people choose to live life like this and i am one of those people when i have my child i will let him/her deide for themself if they want to follow in my footsteps but like cancer said it gets very annoying

Familiarity helps people accept. When I was following around certain DJs that spun at all kinds of clubs and raves, I didn't change anything about how I dressed or acted to try to fit in. Of course, if you don't have a sparkling, charismatic personality, I think sticking to your corner and keeping your mouth shut might be a good idea (Sorry for being so blunt) until you feel you have something constructive to say and a more constructive way to say it. When people ask questions about why you dress the way you do or whatever, tell them honestly and don't catch an attitude. Or say nothing. Eventually you'll learn how to tell the difference between people who actually want to know and the people who are just baiting you. Some people are honestly curious and not judgemental. And to assume everyone mainstream IS that way is to be judgemental yourself.

I don't have I have a personality that's too sparkling but I'm working on it.. But I do very much so agree with Cancer. Not gonna go into elaborating on my own because I'm not too good with words, but I believe everything on this post sums it up.

Indeed -- Everytime I see one of my 13 year old sisters poser friends I die a little inside lol It is just ridiculous! There claim to being gothic is wearing netted shirts listening to evanescense and sometimes even wearing black nailpolish oooooh! lol

I agree with Cancer, but if you want to be happy and still be a little different the go start one of those happy cults, I saw that on a tv show once.. kinda creepy.. but you never get critized!

Some of these complaints remind me of the voice over advertisement cancer had me do a few years back ... "goth is what you make of it ... what makes you goth?" I belive it was an add for a store actually *shrugs* personally I like hot topic but then again I get free certificates from the district managers in sums of hundreds of dollars for advertising them :D
Whilst I agree with Cancer we must remember being kids ourselves ... people never understood us nor listened to what we had to say and if they did it was disregarded becuz we were young! I was taught Suck it up, it doesnt last forever!

I used to get annoyed with people yelling abuse at me, but now I just find it amusing.
Considering that half the people that yell abuse at me, I probably serve food to when they're drunk.

The real funny thing is that if most of these people who yelled abuse could actually get past the "image", then they'd have some great friends.
