I personally have not experienced the power of the "Ouija Board", but have friends that have. I'm a believer of the power within the "Ouija Board", but am not that anxiuos to experience it first hand. Call scared, call it whatever you like, but I respectfully decline the use of the "Ouija Board".
I say watch out for what you do not know. May not be a possession of your soul, but a misguiding of info. Remember were there is good so is evil.
I have used one and have had nothing but bad experiences while using the board and up until i got rid of it. once i got rid of it the coincidental bad experiences seemed to cease.
I think it can really be either...but there is a lot of danger in using a Ouija Board. It opens a lot of "doors" for spirits to come through, it's essentially inviting whatever in...and you never know what malicious spirit will come along.
It`s not the spirits making the glass or whatever you are using move, but they are using your energies to make the objects move. Like they are directing you as to which way it is pushed.
i have also been curious of the powers of the board i have always wanted to do one but i fear that only bad things will come of it if i do it
The board can be used to "open" doors. Some of my friends have played with one and opened a door to negative energy. I do not think that using one alone is a good idea. My friends ended up having to destroy the board after a series of "accidents".
I believe it's possible. I remember my grandmother having one, but I was too young to be so interested in it. She told me that a man wrote an entire book with the help of a spirit using the ouiji board.
I consider it an instrument that should only be used by a skilled medium and then only in a protective circle. It is a rather uncontrolled implement that opens large portals to the spirit world. It is rather unselective in what can be contacted with it. It allows much opportunity to what the contacted entity can do to the user unless protective steps are taken before hand. I would advise any novice to leave it alone.
my thoughts are if the board says Parker brothers no nothing is going to happen, i don't take much warning in a game for children
now if the board is made by a witch like wood or stone and magic was put into it there is a possibility that something could happen
I had one when I was younger, and attempted to contact some deceased relatives. Nothing happened, but I was probably too unskilled at the time for it to work. Now, I don't think I would try it, but wouldn't mind being present if someone else did it.
I had one when I was younger and expirienced only negative. However, when I got older and became more skilled in my practices, I was able to control the board better. I still think that it is a dangerous instrument but i think that if one knows what they are doing and can protect themselves and thse around them then it is very useful in gaining answers.
I agree with Gealachlass. You should be careful with things you know little about. I am directing that mostly at myself, though. As a result of my general caution around all things supernatural, I have never mucked around with the likes of a ouiji board.
I've never liked them much, not even when I was too young to really understand what it was. I guess I've always just sensed that there are things out there far too big for one such as myself to delve into.
So yes, I believe that a ouiji board could do all that supernaturally stuff. But I also think that it depends how deeply the user believes in what they are doing. With strength of faith and belief I reckon that just about anything can be willed into existance. It's just rare, however, to find such faith and unequivocal belief in something.
I used one when I was very young, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. I believe that the board works more on thesubconscious of its users than as a direct spiritual gateway. This does not mean that the users are not supernaturally influenced, rather that any thoughts conveyed to them are received by the subconscious mind and manifested.
when you witness a friend get lifted into the air while sitting in his chair with nobody holding it and thrown across the room, you start to think it is indeed real. They aren't toys by any means and should not be viewed as one.
I don't want to get off topic here, but the thing that most stuck out for me is that Ouija Board in the pic up top uses only English characters - I have googled for Ukrainian, Russian and Cyrillic Ouija Boards without any luck.
Can it only be used by spirits with a working knowledge of modern English language and used by people who speak English ?
ive used one and nothing happened i think its all a bit of nonsence ! untill i actually experience it first hand i wont believe!!!!
re:artemka
Good question and I have all ways seen english boards.
But I know that the dead speak what ever language they spoke in life.So You did bring a good question to the thread one in which i have wondered about my self different language boards. You can make your own so i guess if you speak other then english you could use your own alphabet.
Yes it is true especially if you do not use protection spell before u do the Ouija board I have one my self and use it often but like anything else u always have to use protection and caution it open to wrong doorways and if u r not carefull it can bite back 3 fold
I used one only once...defying my mother who told us kids never to touch one...
A lot of unexplainable incidents happened after the use of it and I will never touch one again...There are people who will never be affected by it but then there are those who will find that the have made a huge mistake
I have used them without results. I do not like them, and my use was one of curosity. If they do open the gates to another world, I surely would not wish to play with the wrong world. Many people I know have had sucess, some of it was not good success, but a rather evil success. One friend I know had open the gate to evil. Dark shadows started to be with them in the night.
It took awhile for their protection procedures to get rid of the unwanted shadow.
They say never burn the board or you shall hear the witches scream. Maybe this is just a myth.
they are very real and can be very dangerous also if you do not know what your doing and should protect yourself when or if you do use them. Myself I will not allow them in my home or around me bad experiences with them do not recommend using them myself.
well, Ouija Board, becareful with imitation from China, that one, will not work. To get a real on, go to an Occult store and order or buy one. Yes, the real Ouija Board work. The doors that it can open, are not easy to close them back. So, becareful what you ask, because, can not be pretty.
When I was married, my husband bought me The Psychic Circle, it's somewhat like a Ouija board but has other elements added to it. One night we turned off all the lights and lit candles and brought the board out. I did not like the feeling I got and yes the glass moved when asked questions. I got sick to my stomach using it and we discontinued it and I've put it away where no one could get to it.
Recently, my cousin asked me if I still had it and I told her I did and she took it.
I'm not sure why I got a sick feeling but I did and I won't go near one ever again.
I have never had any type of experiance with the board. It never moded, it never spelled anything, but then again, I have never had any tupe of paranormal experiance. People I know claim to have, but when the same people and me messed with the board, suprisinly nothing happened. Hmmmmm......
The board has an invented past, the object of the board shares a tradition of parlor entertainment. I go with the hysteria, ideo-matic movements move the penchet. Penn and Teller did a good show on debunking the board, I always notice (when I have been around groups where a board was brought out) . Eveery body wants the board to be some entity so they can transfer any undesirable thing mentioned or exposed to that entity. The Haunted Museum has a good entery on this topic as well.
Why do people insist it is an occult phenomena, I think it is because the patter was so attractive, a good social ice breaker the Board is, sadly people over play the whole spook thing..the board does prove how novel suggestion is likely to create group dynamics, as well as hysteria, I will look for the Youtube "sitting on video" to show how desperate people are to make it appear that it is actally spirits,
I challenge anybody to produce a historically acurate bio on a deceased person with a board, some thing that should be clearly possible if it is actually as they claim, A portal.. Not Vague but factual..
Dabbler,
It will never happen, "the board" is random. Do I believe in it, not sure. I know what I experienced and I didn't like it, does it mean it's some "spirit" doing this, can't be for sure, maybe it's all in each individual's mind.
Think about this for everyone that reads this, an average person only uses 10% of their brain, what could happen if we used more than 10%? All sorts of scenarios could arise.
The board may be an outlet for our subconscious getting us in tune with the part of the brain we don't use...just a theory to think about
That 10% of the brain usage thing has been refuted, yet i would imagine that the ten percent could be imagination.. I mean why are people so desperate for spirits to "jump through hoops and perform for some parlor gimmick? Mysticism is nothing but astonishment, entertainment. Those that press the occult thing.. what they are climing is power over dead people.. for entertainment, nothing comes of sittings but things open to idealistic interpitation.
Why does the 10% thing come out so much?
I believe in demons and i believe if we let them have an opening say like thru this little board game they will come in.. play with us so to speak and yes sometimes scare the hell out of us. i dont know if portal is the right term but i believe thats what happens.... and i think they do move the board piece for us and answer questions and get them right . ive never played with one because i really dont want to open that portal up..
I have had very good experiences with them.. usually when alone or with one or two people I know well. When the bad stuff has happened.. its been cause I was not with people I knew as well.
For me alot of it comes down to a simple question. Are you able to protect yourself from a spirit that may wish to attach itself to you in whatever fashion. If you are ( or think you are) then I see no need for more than being aware there is some reason for caution. If your not... then in my never very humble opnion... you need not be in the room.. touching or even in the home when one is used. As tis not just you that can be harmed.. it could make the otehrs there at risk as well.
I honestly don't know. My friends and I made one out of cardboard once and nothing happened. But a few weeks later, my friend had a psychic come over because she thought her house was haunted. And the psychic knew where we were playing with the board. We never told her where. And she also knew where she had it hidden. The psychic pointed to the closet and said "it's behind that door." She also said to throw it away because it had been cursed....Odd I know
Where did one meet a psychic? Who introduced the psychic?
What else was stored in the closet? How many people talked with the psychic before the psychic "revealed" information?
I believe that the spirits come and talk through them... why would the producers keep producing them if they didnt think people would play with them?
Is it your belief that they are tools of the occult? If it is. Then why has the name, and origin of the Boards changed so much over the years, are you familiar with the intent of using a board? Ice Breaker. Just like parlor games, the same ones that made the board so popular.
well when I was younger we had one and the danm pointer flew across the room and hit my mom in the chest she had the scar till the day she died, so I do not care for them they are dangerous.
Do you know who else was there? What questions where asked? Or even alluded too? I look for the triggers to the activity that people claim around the boards.. yet it is usually "I heard from a friend that .. such and such happened to so and so. sadly the Ice in those groups is seldomly broken, because some people spook to easy, and others like to see spooked people, so they will instill hype into others.. sort of a script.. all the Tales of activity will prompt the one dramatic person to perform.
Caution Do not play alone one can become possessed.
Is this possible?
No .. it's not.
To have an entity enter us or is it because we were for warned and we think there for we are?
Again, no. Demonic possession .. yes.
Dose the oracle move on its own or do we use our
subconscious minds.
People end up moving it.
When we ask questions are we the ones who are answering it or is there some Supernatural force moving our hands.
We're the ones answering.
I have had my own experience with one and I thought it was real but I began to wonder was it???
Probably not.
In your opinion Is the Ouija Board and the stories even true do you believe that spirits come threw?
They're false in my opinion.
well My mom was Amer.Indian and she strongly distrusted the boards for reasons know to her and her family so I mean once she walked into the doorway of the room where we were using it the pointer flew (literally) across the room and struck her in the chest cutting her. My dad burned the board.. end of that.
our home was haunted with the wife of the man who had owned it previously and he murdered her and we felt she wanted to tell us where she was... and well she was buried in the basement and the police came etc. and well the case was then closed and she was put to rest. Yet, we were not suppose to mess with the magic of the board because it can / could open portals for other spirits not so freindly.
I have used it but I don't know if useing alone I am not sure it would cause a spirt to possess you. I do think that it is possible to be possessed by something. I just don't think that it always happens when you use the board alone.
Are their news articles, obituaries? did anybody research a bio on the matter?
I dont belive that a parker brothers ouija has any real power making an authentic board is very percise and itensive process and yes the real one are a gateway but be carful anyway cause a ghost may see fit to use any kind of board and if you keep it talking long enough it could possibly connect with you and get angry if you try to break that connection
I don't think research is going to reveal anything to counter the conclusion that the Ouija Board comes with bad energies, mojo, voodoo, etc. Anyone care to contradict. I'm open to all input.
Most of what you are saying is superstition. The board has NO POWER whatsoever. If you use it like using a pendulum, trying out automatic writing and other types of divination you can have a bad experience. You open yourself up to it. It is just that the very few that have actually happened beyond imagination have been highly publicized. The board was never made to be used by one person anyway. I have used these boards at least since the 70s and I know what they say. These boards were easy to acquire rather than using any other means and cheaply made. One could make them on their own as there are all sorts of them. This very same thing can happen at a seance and quite frankly even if you have a medium there once you link you open yourself up and entities...discarnates or what have you can channel through anyone in the circle. You must shielf if you don't want that to happen. Most often they will go to the medium but not always.
They have done testing to shown some of the movement is involuntary and answers coming from the unconscious. The thing is some of it isn't. If you used it alone you are foolish. I don't believe in Demons as defined by Islam or Judeo/Christianity. Therefore I don't have the expectation to meet one via a board. You must cleanse these and do a rudimentary clearing of wherever you are using the board and it is suppose to be used by two people placed between them touching their laps. In other words the users are suppose to be facing each other. It can work and does on a table but it is suppose to be actually touching each person to make a link. It is all dependent on who is using it and if you don't know how to shield and other cautionary things then yes you might get a prankster drawn in. We don't fully understand the nature of places beyond this reality...NONE of us. This is no more dangerous than reading tarot, doing automatic writing etc. Whenever you do any type of divination you draw things to yourself. We know they exist but not the total nature of what they are; whether discarnates or something else. Any time a large group of people get together and perform magickal rites they raise energy that draws in entities. There is just a lot of urban legend built up around the ouija board but various forms of these boards and applications similar have been used for centuries. The expectation has been planted now that there is something evil about them and so people set themselves up for something they manifest to happen. It is only a board nothing more. We don't know what possession is really. Fear creates energy and the fear that is in the unconscious mind of the people who are not too familiar with the occult might be channeled to manifest negatively. It is NOT the board it is the people who use them.
I have tried the board on one occassion and did not like the feeling that I had gotten or the things that I ssen with it.
While I am not completely certain that one can be possessed by a spirit from using the board, I do feel that the energies of the spirit can be used while one is using the board.
I do feel that the board should be used by a medium or channeller(sp). And like lastatsbride said always use protection spells or circles when using the board.
Magickal circles have been used by ritual magickians but I doubt when using a ouija board. Not sure what Pythagoras did. He used something that worked similarly. Remember if it is Neopagan it is not usually old but based on old practices so it is sketchy if certain things will work. Spiritualists don't work that way. They say prayer or chants and things like that. They mostly visualize encircling protection of various types depending on the person. They don't do groundings or anything like that. All of that came later when Wicca became so popular after the 70s. I am a spiritualist for a very long time and have three ordinations but don't follow certain practices...big whoop for me, lol. I am just saying I have been around the bush a few hundred times and there is nothing wrong with the board. It is how people are using them and because you are opening yourself up they should not be sold to anyone under 18 to more or less "play" with them. My children as teens have used the board with me but they all have abilities more or less and have been schooled about things. You don't have to draw anything all can be done via the mind and word.
I guess if that is what you choose to do and it placates worries then that is what you should do but those that use these boards the most and divination is a very common everyday practice in what they do, don't use these sorts of things. Perhaps Wiccans use them but mostly it is spiritualists or dabblers. If there is a big fear of that board then one should put away their tarot cards too because a person who uses those can have these same types of experiences if they aren't careful. You are not merely reading the cards through memorization but they are a focus point with meaning and those that use them are usually quite psychic and they are doing more than just reading back rote memorized significances...that is just a jump start. If you don't have a strong meditational background...don't attemp any form of divination or magickal practice. Even Aleister Crowley told his own students this. They needed two years of meditation and visualization behind them prior to doing workings.
I could never understand the obsession with Witch (Ouija) Boards. The graven forms are merely tools. Nothing more.
I, myself use the Tarot.
it is safer to use Tarot Cards in my opinion,
and as for any Bios or orbituaries on the one with Keptdarksecrets event / use of it was back in 1970 in Missouri yet the murder / disappearance of foresaid mentioned woman was back in the 50's. It was a police case and the guy next door was invovled with the mans wife LOL so they both disappeared needless to say.... not much on it actually but, it did happen. As to the pointer hitting her mom well I believe her on that cause i have had simular incidents with the Ouija Board that is why I do not use them they are too unstable for me, in my opinion...
It is a good tool to find the spaz in a group. Always that one person that gets all sketched once some one suggest a game (which it is). However the game for some is who can make-up the wildest "event". People like that are spazes, they will go into a game, and when the questions get to personal, they are likely to act out.. and how convenient they have ghost (coming through portals) to blame for their drama impulsive out break, and if any body challenges them? They accuse the person of not being open minded.. well being some one who could careless for being a cluttered mind I fully accept it for what it is, A GAME, in all forms, manufactured, and crafted.. feel free to spin yarns, testimonials, and anacdotes those are the people who are the butt of a long running joke, involving patter, it goes back to the late 1800's. How long is a rehashed Pitch going to work. If you beg to differer fine but don't call others closed minded for not being a sucker.. err believer.
The I-Feel-Left-Out- Effect: That one person that has never heard of a Ouija board, gets around others that have the occult fad hype. They all have stories of how it is a portal blah blah.. the person sees it for what they show it as .. Why? Because that person does not want to be excluded from the group. So that person (at the next game meeting) re-spews the fad hype pitch. When someone finally laughs at them, and shows them what it is, and they are "dis spelled" it has the effect of a snipe hunt actually, so the phenomena is of the board goes into Para Behavioral. The only "spirits" that are involved are the present ones trying to hype out the other ones, or trying to hint to the answer of a question, or sense for the others understanding of the answer. Micro, Idio-activity, nothing else, subconscious interaction. That is why they call it a game, how much are people investing in a game.. are they that desperate to interact with "mystic powers"? Spirits answering novel questions?
Ouija Boards are a simple tool that has been used for 100,s of years but Parker brothers took it and turned it into a toy for children which was stupid on his part but the ones you get from them I believe is just that a toy if on the other hand you make one your self or have one made and then blessed and cleansed then it most certainly be used for communicating with the beyond, but you must be careful that you know what you are doing and that you are protected at all times and that what ever doorway you open you close.
Parker brothers did not make it. It is a game nothing more actually. Please link anything that supports otherwise.
Sympathatic belief, those that "go along" with the beliefs of others to avoid offending them. Sadly this supports irrational belief, and enforces the likelihood that others will confabulate to "be part of the group experience" Para Behavior., relative to group dynamic, if a person is gullible a group is only as strong as that indivdual.
Ouija boards can be very dangerous if you don'tknow what your doing. you can let something into you house if you don't have the right protections up. You also never know who it is you are talking to.
I agree with users above. The board is a strong instrument and in the wrong hands it can be devistating. Bad powers can give you all the wrong answers to mess with your life. Dont use this if you are not an good or moderate medium.
*smiling* See dabbler is on a roll again.
Sept 8th on A&E Paranormal State is having a program about ouija boards 10 p.m. 9 central.
It's a board, manufactured by human hands, with no special powers. If you're not touching the oracle it doesn't move because people provide the movement for the oracle.
Try this sometime. Get out a Ouija board and set it up on the table. Gather some friends around, turn out the lights and light some candles. Explain to everyone that you're going to use the board in a new method. All of the lights have to be out until the oracle stops. Then just one candle can be lit while all but the person lighting the candle keeps contact with the oracle.
Find an excuse to have everyone leave the room and blow out the candles before they return. While they're out of the room, replace the Ouija board with a piece of wood or masonite. Replace the oracle with something of the same relative size and shape. Have everyone sit down and feel for the oracle. Then play as usual.
The oracle, even if it's just a deck of cards in a box will still move and since there aren't any markings on the board, it's obvious that no paranormal force is using the oracle to provide a message.
Then there are those that prompt others to tell stories, they do so only to mock them, all it takes is one person to start with some simple statement.."I heard things happen around boards." and before you know it the one-up-testimonial/digest stories start, there was a time that I thought this was the purpose of the game.
Then their are people who will never admit that they moved the planchet because they expressed something through the board. That need for third party "protection" is strong. A group of people proding each other, some with more personal inquiries then others. How does one avoid taking responsability for alluded answers? Claim it was a Ghost, how does one cover up a clumsy streak? Blame a ghost, how does one enforce that? Have a Ouija Board Game night, and confabulate an entity. There is a possibility for group mixing, there is a possibility to fragment a group. Some one will get dramatic, and someone will call the whole thing retarded.. and boring.. so someone will go all mystical. Yet just like the parlor game Murder Mystery (where nobody dies) it is a parlor game, and it has a traditional story that is told, and retold, and hyped, and rehyped. All for entertainment, or to somehow show that someone knows some esoteric thing about it.. if this was a board it would not move from..
NO
well all I can say is that when you play with any kind of magic or spiritual things there can be problems and bad things happen. I do not allow Ouija Boards in my home .
Kryptlove,
Can you relate any verified instances? Even one?
Actually she has taken the hype, and done the right thing. When in doubt leave it be. I would not want a board around people who are likely to anything to prove that what they claim happens. example, things being thrown about (by people, on the sly) people act out around those things, there are plenty of other parlor games ones without such an occult build-up to them, yet the majority of parlor games have been high jacked by occult groups.
Well Beast I do not have pictures LOL but I have experienced where the pointer has flown across the room, I have seen a friend speak in a foriegn language and not remember and many other things I have personally experienced so as for evidence there is your evidence. LOL I mean if you want documented proof you can always go google it for yourself.
I had one years ago and I think its BS. i think its our subconsious mind that move it because u want it to move and u think its gonna move.

If any body wonders a ghost made me type this. please decode it.
You have a smart ass Ghost and A very strong one indeed.
In order to control your hands on the keyboard.
But I think your point your trying to make is you controlled your hands. And like the oracle you have the power to control
it and as i asked and it is becoming clear Most of the Ouijia board hype is Mass Hysteria.
The ghost made me do it so there for it happened and we all saw and read what it had to say.
I had a relative who owned one, but I was always afraid to touch it...reading some of the posts here regarding opening doors - ie an unknown energy - seems to be more negative than positive. I guess my initial reaction to the Ouija Board was correct.
Fear has long (perhaps "always), been a part of superstitions. But before succumbing to such fears it's best to look for the evidence.
Does anyone know of anyone attacked by a demon or spirit after working with an Ouija board? Does anyone have a verified account of anyone ever being attacked by any demon or spirit at all?
People are free to assert and to spread anecdotes from person to person. But when you get right down to brass tacks, there's simply nothing to suggest any veracity to any of these paranormal claims. And since claims of the paranormal are as old as man's history, if there was anything to them, you might well expect some credible level of verification for them by now. Instead they survive as myths and popular tales but remain always without credible confirming evidence.
(Tens of thousands of years for many of them.)
I've never used one personally but some friends have and their experience was really scary, as something came through and started following them and basically started to cause a nuisance. They ended up having a cleansing to get rid of it. I've also saw video's on youtube about a few happenings after a board was used and it looks quite frightening.
I personally wouldn't use one, at least without an expert being there.
WickedWhisper,
Is there any evidence that these supposed nuisances were other than imagined? If belief in the board can cause imagined nuisances, then couldn't belief in a cleansing promote the discontinuance of the nuisances?
Good point Beast. I never saw anything myself but then again i wasn't there, but i know my friends and they aren't ones to go wildly imagining things or go for properganda.
Well my dear beatt17 may I ask that you have the evidence that people have NOT experienced any thing after or even during the use of a Ouija board? I mean it is basically one has actually had the experience and some have not and the ones who have not are very quick to say that it is ones imagination. Myself I have experience things and I have seen things just as many on here has now whether or not one believes it is so is their own choice.
Most people will not believe anything unless they have first handedly experienced it, and so they firmly believe that it is not so or even possible. Myself I try to keep an open mind to all things if not then Who is to say that the stars in the sky are real, have you been up close and personal. Just because you see a twinkling in the sky is it a star, or is it a plane OH My.... the sky is also falling .. LOL
I am not being rude I am just saying many have experienced alot of unexplained things in this world so who are we to say that it has not or does not happen, unless there is proof that many of these things have NOT happened.
It is only fair to say anything is possible until you can prove it either way until then well .....anything is possible. Just my thoughts and how I feel about it.
I have bad feelings with used ones because of the way people use them. I believe it may be the people bringing the spirts to them and not the board. We open the portals.
Tarot cards have been said to cause bad things to happen but I've used them for years. Is our imaginations that good or is a ghost of tricks on our butts? who really knows???
I think of you are careful with them you're ok. But recently my friend asked for my help in burning hers. I cast a circle so that seemed to help. But the spirit is still tormenting her.
Kryptlove,
Re: "Well my dear beatt17 may I ask that you have the evidence that people have NOT experienced any thing after or even during the use of a Ouija board?"
You most certainly may and I will be most happy to provide such evidence but it does come at a price... an exchange, actually. I first ask that you provide the evidence which shows that the core of the super-massive black hole at the center of the Andromeda galaxy isn't filled with sentient lint-balls who through their dust-bunny off-spring control the weather on Jupiter. Then I'll be most happy to respond in turn and provide what you wish.
Do you now understand the point?
If you have no evidence to support the idea that a Ouija board can cause paranormal or spiritual problems, then there is no cause to believe that it can. It's just like the belief that earthworms can fly. Until someone can provide evidence that they can, no one has any call, reason or responsibility to show that they can't.
Prove that something did not happen, I was once dragged into a stalking case. The girl used that same lineto respond to question "You cannot prove he is not stalking me, he is slick.", a failed logic ploy. indeed she was making the whole case up, and the farther her story went the thinner her claim got. Here we are in an age with cameras on phones.. yet not one "session" with "activity" has been, or ever will be recorded. With the exceptions of all the dramatic Youtube spoofs.
So indeed your friends are playing on your unquestioning belief. You cannot prove to me that they are not telling you made up stories. So there fore they must be telling you stories, why? Because as you say.. Anything is possible. It is even possible that you made it up your self to support a friends claim, sympathetic belief. A Para Behavioral Phenomena, True believers Syndrome, can you prove that this is not the case, you say you don't want to appear rude, well you are a bit insulting, Insisting that you are open minded somehow, so that those who do not believe/accept something that has actually been exposed more times then A celebrites mug shot, to be a trick, and has failed to show any occult claim to exist. That does not make you open minded, to some it would appear you are gullible. Calling people closed minded, is no better then christians claiming you are going to hell. Duelity in the Occult.. ticks me off, they think they have eliminated that factor, how they are wrong. A Novelty, admit it there would nbe more proof to such things, why, because those that believe, and want others to believe would smear it across prime time news, so can you explain why with all the cameras you cannot catch a session of activity? Besides saying, I won't go near them? How convenient that people can collect spirits, what a make believe power, one that is so impressive to gullible people. Bowing out from the irrational belief does not damage you. It just breaks things attached to your faith. Are you confident.. Confidient that your friends are not "putting you on?" Would you answer specific questions in regards to their claim? See it is possible to prove that something does not exist. But this is your court and you must prove that it does exist, it has been exposed more times then a celirities adopted bady.. get over it.. what significance ids there for it being as you so badly want it to be?
As well you have no idea how many times I have seen boards used in their actual parlor fashion. Even before I was given the Occult Pitch.. it is all hype, get over it. I watch as people are driven to hysterics.. I watch as people make up ( lousy vague stories, about there cousins friends neighbor having a board burst to flames.) and I watch those who are skeptic actually get caught up in the BS exchange. I would suggest you put a screen door on your open mind, to avoid clutter.
Dabbler makes an excellent point (several of them, actually).
Is it better to have a completely open mind where you apply no critical thought processes to anything? Or is it better to be completely closed off to any new ideas?
I prefer something in the middle and Dabbler has aptly demonstrated that he is also in the middle. We don't discard the possibility of the Higgs boson, even though it's never been isolated or demonstrated to exist. We are open to the idea because there is enough evidence to lend significant support to the concept.
But if you don't apply some means of filtering the rubbish, then you end up with a head full of rubbish. Be open to new ideas that carry with them significant levels of evidence. Be closed to those which are composed of nothing but long strings of passed on claims and are devoid of actual evidence.
Are you completely open minded? If you are, then I have some wonderful coastal land in Florida to sell you. You also won a contest and it doesn't matter than you never entered it. Just send me $10,000 and within 4-weeks (required for processing), I'll send you a check for 10-million dollars. Can I interest you in a car that burns standard hydrocarbon fuel (gasoline), but gets 853 miles per gallon? You can own one for as little as $2500. Are you interested? If not, why not?
See the problem with being completely open-minded? See the problem with being completely close-minded? People should aim for somewhere in the middle.
So until you have some evidence that Ouija boards can be utilized or misused to produce any kind of spiritual or paranormal peril, there is but one caution you should observe concerning them: "Do not eat".
I am open minded, but how can an item mass made by milton bradly be anything but a gimic?
This qestion is spliting the party in two :)
Noirtist.
Put a spell on it, like you sugested in the mirror thread. If you can cast a spell on a mirror, you can on a piece of wood.
Excellent point, one that eluded me, lol. So, are there spell casters working at milton bradley? I actually heard something to that effect when I was a kid, but I don't know if that's true.
Just like snake oil it is all in what is claimed, and maybe even performed occasionally.
i have messed around with them to try and comunicate but i have never had a single good experiance with them so all i can say is be careful
heartmender,
Re: "have never had a single good experiance with them so all i can say is be careful"
Does this mean you've had a bad experience with them? If so, was it paranormal in nature? Why not tell us about this/these bad experience(s), rather than simply alluding to them?
Has any body learned something about the people they used this parlor social ice breaker with?
my mom when she was younger had had a bad experance with one andfor bid me and my sister to us them. to this day i have never touched it because i see the fear in her eyes about it.
I had a friend who used a Ouiji board and it told her she was going to die in a car accident. 24 hrs later she died. In her car...she had got in to go home, but as soon as she turned her vehicle on, another car around the corner, smashed into her car and killed her. Coincidence? I have no idea. But even if it is, it still makes me leery of ever getting near a Ouiji board...
I wquestioned three people that have claimed to have a family member or friend have a "bad experience with boards, and after asking some personal questions, I have turned up some interesting preexisting underlying social confrontations in the group that gathered to play the board.
I notice this is a common theme in "haunted houses" as well.
I also notice that clumsy or impulsive people claim more poltergeist activity then unstressed people. Perhaps denial plays a part in the stubborn claims of some. To break the story is to deal with the issue at hand, then to account for all the broken items, one would think there should be poltergeist insurance.. I would find a job as a claims investigator. Would any body like to place their claim up for scrutiny?

All I can say to this is that your just full of yourself LOL Because to be open minded does not mean to be stupid and your implying that people whom are open minded (completely) are stupid..... Well I am not and I seen the pointer fly across the room and cut someone in the chest and they had that scar till their death and it was my mom, now if you want to imply that because I experienced something and that I being open minded means I am stupid and should only play in the middle (as You say you do) then you are the one who is totally closed minded and just want a good debate on this whole subject and not a true discussion as to who has or has not had an experience with the Ouija Board, because I thought that is what this thread was about a Discussion not a debate to earn postings as you are doing in many threads on here, and that is JUST AND OPINION, I am open minded enough to think that you actually may respect persons on here who have had things happen to them and not down grade them by implying they are stupid or dumb enough to fall for con - artists. Because they are *open minded.
I try to weigh the difference between actualality and falsehoods. I know that some things are just a hoax yet, If a person has actually experienced it I am not gonna blatenly say that they are basically full of it as you have implied over and over in many threads.
I am sure this will be removed also by an ADMIN. yet I am just stating my opinion and responding to your Post.that is directed at me.
There are many unexplained things done by the power of the mind:
These are just examples ...
Voodoo is supposed to work because either the victim believes it will work, or the spell casters believe it does and this allows them to channel their energy
Poltergeists are supposed to be psychokinetic energy of a teenager
Ghosts are supposed to be the impressions left behind by a mortal and picked up by a believer
If we can accept the possibility that the simple power of the mind can have an affect on physical stuff (moving objects), then if someone can swallow all the hype and really, honestly believes that such-and-such is supposed to happen, surely their untapped mental powers will create them
No-one has really answered my question on languages. I still can't find a Cyrillic ouija board - if we assume that these boards can communicate with the dead, why can they only communicate with English speaking dead ?
Very well stated Armeka (sp) I find like in Parlor Games in general that a Sociogeist (if the people gathered have nothing to "hide", and want to open up to each other) will provide that window of candid communication. All the spaz stuff is likely the result of impulsive challenged people. Those that like to keep a shallow associatation, usually based on trivial claims, and tall tales to bolster stagnant social skills. For a good case study of a "poltergeist" I suggest The Tina Resch Case. Even if a board communicated a message in another language I would be likely to suspect that a group member was fluent in such language, though I would go along for that reading, because it would really be something to watch those present to recount it.
i own a board- and i have used it alone alot of times and nothing out of ordinary has happend. it hasn't moved on it's on, no hauntings, nothing. lol- although when i was younger i saw the movie "witchboard" and it scared the hell out of me. it's just a board.
It`s a hoax!Search for the ideomotor effect!
It tells you only what you want to know, not what really exists beyond.
;)
call me a chicken.. the whole thing kinda creeps me out just a little
I kinda believe that they work. I feel that most of the time it is the person moving it though. I have had one weird experience with it. I was having a new years party (non alcoholic, we were all minors) and we decided to play with my ouija board. One of the people decided to ask if there were any spirits around and as it turns out the dead grandmother of one of my guests started sending messages. The messages were warnings that she had actually been murdered and that my friend shoudl beware of her grandmother's closest friend. I dunno if I believe it or not but it was still pretty weird.
I am not sure about others experiences with Ouija boards but I will give you mine.
I was babysitting at the time and me and the girls that I was watching decided to use the Ouija. I asked the board where my real mother lived, mind you these girls had no idea nor did I, but the board spelled out Dayton. My biological mother did not live in Dayton but guess what? She lived about 30 miles NW of there and so it did give us an idea of where to find her. That has been over 20 years ago and now I have a wonderful relationship with her!
