So i'm just making a random thread.

We've all had dreams in which were falling, flying, witnessing catastrophic events and even dieing. But some dreams go even deeper, and you can talk to some of the characters in your dreams even if you only get a short response from them.

My question is simply this:
Have you ever had a dream which changed your perception of a person/situation/your general take on life?

well it is difficult to keep from getting upset at somebody for something they did in a dream.

perception toward something can change in a dreamland because the everchanging, hyperemotive environment. now how you let it change you is not beyond control either. becoming afraid for example of traveling because dreams of crashing in vehicles is intimidating that is going to be hard but not impossible to overcome. perception is indeed a wonderful thing to have fun with. seeing other peoples point of view, even if its only the one they seem to have in dreams.

Well, I can tell you that my wife has had some pretty lucid dreams where I turn out to be the bad guy - and the next day I get into trouble for what she dreamed I did.

However, the brain processes everything through symbols. During your dreams, it reconfigures things that you have learned and tries to sort out what needs to be kept and what needs to be deleted. In this way, it allows you to determine which decisions to make the next day or week or month when confronted with a particular situation. (I apologize if this isn't making much sense. It's an abridged version of the whole explanation).

For instance, my wife dreams that I'm cheating on her. It's not necessarily that I'm cheating on her but she's had men do this to her in the past and, being the current man in her life, I represent or symbolize all of those men.

I don't see why not.....

look at it this way.....

Dreams give us the opportunity to do things without the bad consequences carrying through to our lives.....

Or the dreams can teach us a valuable lesson without causing issues in our real lives....

:)

definitely.
i have had dreams that specifically changed how i look at certain aspects in my life or situations i get in.

since i believe dreams are very personal and that every one pertains to something important, it doesn't mean that the specifics in my dreams are literally what change my perspective... it's the meanings behind them that change my views.

the feeling of the experience can definitely affect your actions
a reoccurring dream i had when young, that i now know represented my fear of losing my family, changed how i treated my brother for a time.

I can understand how this might happen. The dream world is something that we can control but for those who don't understand how that can be done they will take what they dream at face value. Dreams that are remembered are vivid and influential. They are a way to reflect on situations and problems not just to have funky things happen.

For example: I only remember dreams I have while napping and there have been several that have made me wonder what the heck I was doing but they gave deep insight to a problem I was having at the time. I was able to view the situation from a third person point of view and see the whole picture instead of just my perception of the issue... I was able to use this information I was given to rectify an issue with a friend of mine. It was good!

In conclusion I feel the answer to your question is yes! At least for me!

Yes, I've had dreams that have been some what prophetic, yet not because in the act of knowing I changed the outcome.

I have even had dreams of people dieing, and I've tried to change them but all I seem to do is change the way they die.

I've gotten to the point where I don't like to dream. It made me think that maybe it it good to not know, because then you aren't as cautious...

I used to live in my room read go to school, and talk to no one, now i'm outgoing and I take risks and sometimes extreme risks.

I do believe that this can happen. I have had dreams about some of my friends that have caused me to change my thinking about them. Some of the things from the dream would be from past events which made it hard to change my perception of them but it gave me food for thought.

I remember when I was a little girl I had a dream where my aunts boyfriend (at the time) killed her. I was so afraid of him after that I wouldn't go near him. I think to this day if I ever saw the guy I would still fear him. Well, and I know what happened between them too. LOL

I rarely have dreams about people I know now.

I've actually had dreams where I did something to hurt a loved one and have woken up feeling overwhelming emotions of shame and guilt, though they are things I would never even contemplate doing in reality. I have also had dreams of being hurt by a loved one and woken up furious with them.

But these emotions tend to go away after a day or so. If it were a recurring dream, I imagine it would be a different outcome

Others have told me that I have visited them, and done things to them. And I have woken up with bruises on me in places where someone was trying to hold me off. I have also had dreams where I can talk to people and have conversations and what not.

Has anyone ever had dreams, that, when they are dreaming they are aware that they are dreaming, but they can't make themselves wake up from the dream?

Dreams are very telling and can teach us about our subconscious. If you are clairvoyant, like I am, your dreams are very vivid, colorful, specific, and plays out like a movie.

If I dream something and it has a not so good ending and starts playing out in real life...it changes how I perceive that moment time....I have been able to alter my mood or what I say so as not to have the outcome from my dream. Pretty weird to say the least!

VenusFire, no what you are describing is not weird it happens to a lot of people. Some like you have better control over their emotions when dealing with the after effects from a dream.

Misfitschick, I have had the same happen my dreams as well. Talking to friends and family in my dreams is not something that is uncommon for me on that note. The only thing that has ever bothered me with it is when they bring it up the next time that you see them.

I do recall a dream of my mother and I in the dream I saw things from her perspective. It changed how I viewed my mother. I guess I still held the childish view where she was my protector and that nurturing safe haven in my life.

After the dream I realised she was more than just my mother, she was a woman with hopes and dreams. It matured me in a way and I developed a more adult relationship with my mother.

So in answer to your question I do believe a dream can change your perception in life.

My dreaming experiences have been a wide range from lucid dreams to controlling where the dream takes me and such to having them feel so real like when kissing someone in a dream and it feels like it's happening for real, the flood of emotions are something. I like those kinds of dreams. When I wake up and I'm crying or laughing. It's interesting and I make notes on all my dreams if I remember them. If I don't remember my dream, I just write in my book that I wasn't meant to remember what I dreamt about.

I also notice that when I feel a certain way, let's say for example, being stressed, then my dreams take on a whole different pattern, following my mood. Sometimes these dreams are useful in letting me know I need to relax or giving me clues as to how to release some of the things that are bothering me. Dreams can be useful. Keep a diary!! It really does help!

I have to admit that I do tend to look at things/persons differently after they have appeared in my dreams. More like taking a step back and trying to see what it could mean and looking at them in a slightly different light. I'm not sure that I would say that my behavior towards them changes though necessarily. I dream often, many times an evening so for me many people that surround me pop up in them.

When I dream of people I have no clue as to who they are or why they're in my dream, those are the dreams I try to pay close attention to so that I can figure out why I dreamt that and what the message is or was. It's happened on many occasions. Dreaming of places and people I had no clue who they were or what I was doing there.

I've woken up and written items down which made sense, and then when I woke for the morning what I had written was garbled and unclear.

I have also come to revelations in my dreams and awoke to answers.

Dreaming is fragile.

Dreams sometimes is a opening into our subconscious mind and we can sometimes solve problems or change our feelings towards something as a result of the dream. So my answer to this question would be yes they can change our perception of a person or even of an event.

It's hard for me to have my perception on life changed by a dream. Dreams fade eventually..

I remember once I had a dream that I died, it felt so real that when I woke up, I was amazed that it had just been a dream. I felt incredible that day. I was still alive...

Sometimes it's good to be reminded of those things. You need a hardcore reminder every now and then ;)

Yes, I've had a couple of Deja Vu's that made me stop dead in my tracks and examine what was going on around me, because of a dream. When this happens to me a spider sense goes off in my head and I know that theres something I'm doing wrong and am about to repeat what happened in my dream.

DeadlyXDesire - my point is that I am usually grateful to be alive. Or at least I try to be.
I should have made my point a bit more clear. I think my dream reinforced the feeling of joy when it comes to being alive.

Is it strange that I don't even remember what the dream was about, but I remember the feeling that came with it?

Whenever I think about it, I am glad that I woke up and am still alive. So I do think it strengthened my desire to be alive. So we're both right :P

Mobius...I was not discounting you by any means at all and yes we are both correct in what we view or perceive of the situation. It is good that you are grateful to be alive and remembering how you felt when you woke up from that dream is something that you can always carry with you and refer back to when things get tough and hard to handle.

I myself had a dream last night about a tornado...it was in regards to my life as it is now and the changes that are coming and that the way may be stormy but not destructive as the tornado did not do any damage in the dream. The storm represented the turmoil in my life at the moment and the cleansing that will be an end result and a clear path ahead of me to start fresh and anew. It is wiping out all the bad things in my life.

I don't know, I mean my dreams are always what I like to call deja vu I see things happening and then I live it happens all the time, and then sometimes I try to change it in real life just to see if it's a different outcome or the same, usually it's more tragic than what it would have been so i jus leave it alone now.

I think everyone has had a dream that was so vivid, that upon waking, you carry those same feelings you had in the dream. Whether you felt wronged by someone or a situation or whether you dreamed that you were dating and REALLY happy with a friend or co-worker, can influence how you feel.

Of course, reality will set in and put your emotions back into perspective soon enough :)

Other than having dreams that I tend to confuse with reality I've had dreams involving people and habits and I find that they do affect how I interact with them. My dreams sometimes leash me from doing things that I want to do by showing me an outcome that is desired but entirely not appropriate. And then there's the dreams that show me some things that are not to be avoided. I'm not entirely clairvoyant but it does run in the family. I learn to trust my dreams unless they tell me to take out my eyes and keep them in my pocket.

I have nightmares all the time and sometimes my family members are the people causing pain or to run. I think this is my head messing with me because none of the members I dream about are near evil but it makes me think about them that way a lot more. Also if you have this dislike for someone sometimes you can have dreams of wanting them to be with you and that makes you think of them in a different way. Your dreams are like subtle hints from your mind of your deepest desires.

I've had many different dreams about many of different things.

-people that are dead coming back to life and living like nothing happened.

-losing all my friends over something stupid when the something stupid turns out to be nothing at all.

-Things that are in the past that have changed how i view life now and possible future

3 examples to sum up most of the many dreams that i've had but its 3 examples that have indeed change how i view different aspects of my life. I used to view all aspects of life similarly. Now that i'm a little older and have experienced a little more i have different takes on different aspects of life

Of course they can...

I never have what I would consider nightmares...
I also don't worry about people, places, things or events. However, I had a dream the other night when My Parents told me they were going on vacation for a week without mentioning where.

My father fell from a great height and died on impact while I (in the first person view of my mother at his side) watched. When her scream faded from the dream, her eyes rolled up and she fell into a dead faint...literally as she fell right behind him.

Needless to say, it bothered me. So I asked them where they were going and they told me into the mountains...loads of cliffs there. Seriously, not a good sign. So I am concerned. It wouldn't be the first time I have gotten a dream than changed things drastically. As is, I have my parents telling me where they are staying every night and where they are heading every morning. Usually, I wave them good-bye and am glad to get them out of my hair. They think it is funny. I don't. I am worried about them and I never worry...

In a odd sense, I suppose it would tell them clearly that I love them despite my usually stand-offish attitude of severe independence. I guess they should have addressed that when I was much younger, but how could they when I was practically a grown up at 6 years of age? I matured too fast.

I think the dreams would be playing out in the back of your mind as life happened and it could in fact play out of changing feelings or situations one perceives to another.

Much like haunting dreams that seem so real and when you wake and the day plays out the same as the dream from the night before. but in the dream you get injured. so up to the point you have not avoided the obstacle at hand to not get injured.

I think dreams reflect the state you are currently in in a subconscious level, since your eyes are closed, your conscious is at rest, and the brain reflects what are your preoccupations, fears, emotion of the state in a interpretation of an image/images, the sole representation of the image is the encoded meaning of it, so those who don't let go of the past get haunted by it, those that fear of something get occasional nightmares. That's why is so weir when you have a friend in a place, that you found weird of why there, and some people you know, animals and things, but never understand what means; now the place could be how you felt at the occasion or the role it has in your life, or what time, the person and things personality can reflect yours as well.

Sometimes I dream of people I know..
sometimes in my dreams they help me but sometimes they stab me in the back..
It would be ridiculous to get mad on them or something like that.. but if I have a dream of some of my friends doing some harm to me than I get caution towards them.. it's not something that I want to do.. but that's something that comes automatically..

in my dream the moon is blood red and then starts spining like a top and turns into a top and a voice tells me get rid of it. so i try to but the top keeps comeing back to me so any way some were in the dream i lose the top and say well thats that . But just then a bat flys in the window and i fall to the floor and say if only i had followed the rules and the bat talked and said what rules and bit me and i woke up.

Anything and everything in life can change our perceptions... including those imagined and those believed and those dreamed, regardless their relevance to or in Reality.

It is our maturity, our common sense, our knowledge, and our desire to seek and follow Truth that help us best choose what we allow to affect our perceptions. The more developed the former, the more accurate and helpful the latter. And, obviously, the less developed the former... the less accurate and more damaging and disturbing the latter.

It has happened to me several times that I have had a dream that came as a warning. So I would have to say yes, I let my dreams effect how I perceive things. It hasn't steered me wrong thus far.

I think it may be a case of which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Our dreams are already part of our consciousness, as is our perception. Our perception also has the ability to change our dreams...

More accurately is the possible ability to change our very thoughts and internal dialogue.

AA..I think you are making a very good point here and do agree with your post. I think they are interchangeable and work hand in hand.
