Oh..~Blinks twice to make sure Im seeing right~
Hey,the thread moved.
~laughs~

Ok sure ,Stabb.
There were a couple of things ..
But the one that struck me most was that he seemed quite spiritual, and that he researched many religions in order to form what he considered to be a higher Interpretation of "God" ..or the spirit..
He also cleansed himself alot spirtually.
All in all it looked to me as though he followed and almost priestly way of exsistance.
No sex either...said he had gotten beyond that.
He follows rules that many here do as well, in that he doesnt take blood from someone who does not consent. And even then,he has a very specific way of doing so.
They have done a few medical tests on him, none of the results remarkable but he did demonstrate an accute sense of smell, and could leg press..oh about 400+ lbs.He weighs in at 135 I believe.

I am going to pull this post over here I posted in another thread, because I feel it can by applied here to a degree as well...Since youve asked.

When he came out,of course there was a reaction as always of the ohhs and ahhs and the silly comments, the skeptical ones.Just like many feel you get here. But you know what?it was obvious that he had accepted a long time ago that peeps would react this way and without being deterred,he answered and addressed ALL the questions presented to him with a grace and dignity that anyone could only respect. And by the of the show? There were nods of approval and that skeptic even though still a skeptic, had respect.
He didnt demand respect simply because he felt that it was his right..he went out there live ,in front of milliions and earned it.So it just goes to show, that no matter what or who you are,and you feel you have a voice that needs to be voiced,as a single entity of a community, one must always uphold a behaviour that that community wants to convey.

Being able to leg press 400lbs. while weighing in at 135 is unimpressive. I'm 6'2", 135lbs, and can leg press 400lbs on a good day. I have acute hearing and (until I started smoking) had a VERY acute sense of smell. I'm not sure why I'm posting like this, but all in all, from the description, he doesn't sound very impressive. Still, good that he went on TV and all...

I happen to miss most of that part Stabb, and now,I rather regret it.Because I did find myself wondering about that, and about, what it was that he felt made him such.or how he had earned that titile.Of course ,I thought of Cancer and his place in the whole heirachy etc...I did happen to catch enough to hear that he did not call himself King, and is actually addressed as Emperor.

I saw Don Henrie recently in an episode of a series called "Is it Real?" in which they explored the vampire myths, etc., and quite accurately described (as I also have tried to educate others here) how medical ignorance caused medieval Slavic populations to believe that corpses dug up appeared filled with blood (thus beginning the fiction of a vampire having consumed it from the living), apparently having the hair and nails continue to grow, etc., thus leading to the false conclusion that the corpses were still alive... and on and on.

Following this, they had a segment with Don Henrie in which he was shown drinking a little blood taken from the vein of a young woman that the narrator stated was "... his daughter and lover" (?!?!). (I recorded the episode and watched this part again to be sure I had heard it right... and I did.)

After drinking his own daughter's/lover's blood, he was shown submitting himself to a number of medical tests that proved he did not suffer from porphyria nor anemia. In fact according to the doctor who thoroughly examined him, there was no medical or physiological reason for his desire to drink blood. The episode had hinted earlier that perhaps a psychological factor was involved. I couldn't agree more.

As a youth, I remember Star Trek fans who actually believed they were Klingons or Vulcans... and would emulate them in dress and behavior with as much self-delusion as does Don Henrie his own fictitious character of choice. The only difference is that where the sci-fi weirdos wore phasers and went around neck-pinching and Vulcan-saluting people, Don Henrie wears fake fangs and goes around acting "mysterious" and drinking a little blood from people. Different fictional personas... same childish delusions.

From those videos I get a sense of self-illusion, I think there for I am.

However, Looking at it from a spiritual sense, it could be understandable how he feels that he gains energy from the blood.

Over all, however, I feel he is much like silver ravenwolf(commonly known as $ilver..ect..)
just another person using an image for self gain.

My only posting in this thread will consist of the following, hopefully not to terribly derogatory statements to come.

People who claim themselves to be such thing, openly and publicly whether they are or are not, give up much of the freedoms one has, when not "open".

Being open about something just means an incorporation into the persona if one wishes it. I find that someone who addresses himself as "Emperor" of the Vampires, has shown me no reason to bow my head in submission.

When it comes to the Vampire Community, I find it is the ones with not just the biggest set of fangs, nor how they carry themselves in "scene" settings. I find it to be more of the way they co-exist with the rest of the world, and can maintain in subtle ways the differences which make them who they really are, if only "odd" to the outside world who has no reason to accept them as they are.

Cancer, runs this website, this is his community. For the work he does to maintain the messes which occur in all sides, he will have my respect, as that is what an elder does. They provide a place of sanctuary for those of a like mind. I will not go in so far as to put Cancer in the same playing field, as Don Henry, I do not presume to know either of them personally. However, I would venture that Cancer has done far greater things for the community then Don Henry, and his 15 minutes. If he is what he claims, then may this be the record, may the doctors take his blood samples and tinker with their genetic coding, figure out what makes it so.

That being said, i have a great deal of respect for people like Emperor Norton, the Emperor of San Francisco, who was the founder of the concept of the Bay Bridge, who thanks to his Dowager Empress Jose, has raised enough money to have the bridge lit from treasure island into the city. The man had his own Currency, and to him, he was who he said, that being said, hes also one of the Patron Gods of the City of San Francisco, the only place in our country to be an Empire, and to have a patron god since Grecian-Roman times.

When it comes to titles, particularly of a public nature it must be given in proper context of what order, and what organization recognizes it as such. Because The pope is only the holy man to the Catholics, The Dali Llama is only the holy man to his people, However to each other they each walk the way of their spirits. All the problems come when people start trying to draw lines in the ephemeral sand and pick fights over whose got the bigger set of fangs. Just because some disk jockey hotshot called him a king, or he called himself an emporer it is only relavent to his position within his own cosmology, and social organism. Just like to pagans, Christ is a figure in his own right, but that doesn't mean a damn if you are pledged to another force which has greater bearing on you then a crucified 33 yr old.

UpirLikhyj, id just like to bring up a point seeing how much you love history... vampires are not solely from Slavic areas, Hindus, Asian, meso-american, north American natives, and Polynesians all have had there beliefs, mythology, and practice in Vamprism. yes the word "vampire" comes from eastern Russia, but similar myths, stories, and practice predate eastern European tradition. even cave man drank the bone marrow off there fallen comrades for spiritual reasons. and there are African tribes that also drink blood for warrior spirit.

Yes there are stories of vampires but you can't call them that exactly because each culture has their own name that is equated to mean that because most know the anglicized, slavic version of the name.

Don Henrie is not a King of Vampires and in fact many of his views are that...his views. He is said to be nice and like many young people these days he dresses up like he does. Personally this annoys me but its actually none of my business. It's fine and its his choice and some are spiritual about what they believe and others not. That has nothing to do with vampirism it has to do with his own belief system and how he expresses it through his vampirism. Knowing what I do about television I would take the show with a grain of salt personally. This is like one person speaking for all the gays in the world. I feel he needs to stop doing it and speak only about himself and tell people he is one drop in the bucket as far as beliefs and he doesn't speak for everyone else and many of his views are controversial in scope. There is no King or Queen of the vampires, lol. . . He is just a young man who has affected a particular lifestyle and if there is a reason for it biologically or otherwise he believes what he believes.

There are people who have had genetic testing and do have anamolous genes who say they are vampirics too and as far as I know they do not drink blood but I have not researched that far yet. Takes a long time to gather information and there are only so many hours in a day and time I have to cover everything I am interested in and this topic...it does get old sometimes when you hear about it so much in the circles one travels.

I kinda feel from listening to the YouTube clips that this guy has umm.. well.. taken it a bit to far.
Sure I'm not condeming anyone for wanting to wear what they want, act how they choose to act.
He claims he needs the blood for energy. I really don't know what to make of that. I mean, if he doesn't get any sunlight this can make you lethargic, you need some natural light to keep you healthy.
If he firmly believes that drinking blood will give him energy then it will. You can lure your mind into thinking such things.
But this also annoys me. This guy is getting some fame from this. When did you hear of a drug addict getting famous for jacking up? Its one and the same thing.
In my honest opinion I think he's delusional, taken it to another level.
Can't quite put into words how this made me feel but I've tried. Probably reads in a rather scatty way.

iam,

Your contention that vampires are found in mythologies worldwide, while on the surface might seem true and reasonable, is in fact absolutely not true.

Before discounting this, please read and digest carefully the following, as so eloquently and succinctly stated at (ironically) sanginarius.org:

"These writers, and others, established the notion that 'every culture has a form of vampire belief', that 'vampires' were a universal, even archetypal human superstition, and that they were found world- and history-wide, buried in every body of myth, hidden in every holy book, lurking behind every fairy-tale.

"And of course, they were quite wrong!!! The folklorists managed this feat by taking each separate element of the vampire metaphor and using it to qualify as a 'type of vampire' absolutely anything whatsoever that fitted even one aspect of the definition.

"Was it a supernatural being that drank blood? Then it's a 'type of vampire'!

"Was it something that came back from the grave? Then it's a 'type of vampire'!

"Was it an entity or revenant that was 'hungry' or that pestered the living for sex? Then it's a 'type of vampire'!

"Never mind that the individual cultures concerned had complex histories and belief systems to which these 'types of vampire' really belonged. They all got lumped together, and suddenly the word 'vampire' included at least half of the myths, legends, and folklore ever known on the planet.

"Child-killing demons, blood-drinking gods, hungry ancestor spirits, cannibalistic demons, fierce animal ghosts, night-hag entities, incubi/succubi, the restless dead, plague demons...these and many other very culture-specific beliefs, all with their own context and history, suddenly became part of the definition of 'vampire'."

- http://www.sanguinarius.org/articles/vampdef.shtml (emphasis added)

I couldn't have expressed it better nor could I provide additional commentary thereto that would bring this single imperative fact more sharply into focus that the Slavic Vampire is the only factual historical archetype of the "vampire."

Oh... and to bring this back to point of this discussion, if I might be permitted to address Don Henrie, personally:

Don Henrie... I know the "Slavic Vampire," I've "served" with them and a few of them are, to say the very least, my friends.

Don... you're no "Slavic Vampire."

(P.S. ... much less their "king.")

If he's a sanguinarian vampire, that's fine and dandy, but his entire "king" persona and a lot of the things he says aren't agreed upon by many (if not most) psy/sang vampires worldwide. His fame may be getting the subculture (and possibly the condition) recognition, but he's also putting forth the idea that his beliefs are somehow more important or valid than those of the rest of the community.

I think Don is just coasting from his appearance on that TV show a while back. While I applaud his bringing sanguine practice into media watchers living rooms, I laugh at the "King of Vampires" sobriquet.
I remember another person named Alex Sanders, who was known as the "King of the Witches" about 20 years ago. He too did a lot of personal appearances chatting up witchcraft.
It seems the media love to bestow these titles on those who it promotes. However those who follow the same paths do not take the royal titles seriously.

to the post above, ya i guess... i consider anything that feeds from blood/energy is a vampyre that simple, i even would go far enough to consider the mayan and mesoamerican's as a so called vampirc nation.

i asked some "of the blood" and they really dont know him as much he might be from a different organization than the ones im familiar with...

This is all showbiz. As long as the guy isn't misrepresenting what is standard belief or safe practice amongst sangs, what the hell? The objection seems to be to his title, since he wasn't duly elected, crowned, publicly circumcised, whatever.

While we're on the subject of royalty, how did The Prince get his name?

although he is arogant I have great respect for him. I saw him on the Tyra show, but I'm not sure about some of the claims of his senses and strength. He could work out to aquire his strength. I myself have a heightened sense of smell, but I was born with it. I think he has just trained himself not because of him being a vampire. I am a sang vampire, but I don't feel any different. I have a lot of respect for him. I do agree on his views of having a donor. It is a lot safer.

I must say that his stats are not that remarkable aside from the leg press because, clearly he does not show that he would have the leg strength to do that. but The sense of smell and hearing, well I have those, although with the smoking and loud music you would think otherwise, it just doesn't seem that he is any different except for the fact that he was able to conduct himself in front of so many sceptics, and that he might have changed some of there minds.

As stated eariler,I felt he conducted himself really well. And Billy,I feel as you do,in that he means well and believes in what he is saying.I am still bothered by the whole title thing though, and how he and Vampyra came by them.Which brongs me to ask something of you Nocturnum...I see that you are considered Lord by those in your house etc... is this because you have
"turned" them?Or am I way off track here?
I did note some conflicts in what they both said, and what I have learned here.
Which,if anything ,VR houses some ,what I would consider real vampires,if there is such a thing.

hmmm..emperor don huh?
i'd have been far more likely to back emperor Norton the first
he was less of a sensationalist, and far more likely to be true what he claimed
Don henry is simply a guy who drinks blood, and has good hearing, nothing more, nothing less
and Upir...I see you're still grasping a linguistic straws...
hate to tell you, but considering what the defining points are on what a vampire is....not what the original slavic words and mythologies say....then yes.....other cultures creatures who drink blood ARE vampires...in the same way that irish fairy kind are related to the mythologies of the native spirits

"Don henry is simply a guy who drinks blood, and has good hearing, nothing more, nothing less"
And thats what every vampire seems to say about any vampire who gets any kind of recognition. And oddly enough, they themselves always making claims as to what the real deal is and attempting to be heard as well. ..

I find Don Henrie very interesting. I think he' s taken the vampyre of Hollywood and combined it with "real" vampyres to create himself. He has the allure and poise that Hollywood shows of vampyres, that's for sure.

This whole king thing, I don't believe for a second. I have to admit, I admire him being public, he's bringing real vampyrism to the public eye, without all the taboo surrounding it. He doesn't go out to scare people, just to show them this is real.

Just my thoughts...

I think with anything of this nature you will have those who want others to know, and some who dont.Ive noticed that threre really are alot of peeps who do want the world do understand what its al about, yet they dont want to do it themselves by getting out there. For their own reasons. Thus the evident need of a spokesperson.Which in this case,I felt he did rather well.He didnt put anyone on the defense,he wasnt rude and he seemed t have answered the questions in a manner that kept peeps receptive to what he was sayng.
I hope I understood your question ans was able to answer at least a little.however,my apologies if my answer isnt thorough..Im still pertty doped up from my appt today, but when I straighten up,I will come back and re read this and your question.

Are you really willing to call that Jackass your king?
Once again, someone manages to make the vampire scene look like its full of idiots needing some attention. Ugh!
NONE of the people on that show are Vampires. NO ONE on this site is a vampire, the simple reason is because VAMPIRES DO NOT EXIST. And NO you CANNOT be half a vampire.

Your human. GET OVER IT.

I was reffering the question to you because of the title of this thread. but the same questions goes for anyone who does think hes a king. Obviously the name is self given. He thinks hes the first and whatnot, whatever floats his boat i guess.

I see. That title was the name of the show and what they called him.

Why do you feel it is so obvious? From what Im gathering so far that might not be the case at all.Maybe his followers elected him.

Kindof as obvious as it was that I addressed him as my king.It might help some to read at least some of the posts, wouldnt you think? Then you might see where we are in the conversation.aAnd that I do not acknowlege him as my king.Nor does anyone else here as far as I can see.

Dab,as for the followers..why would they include them on that show?

I do have a belief on what the "real deal is"...it's exactly what I have claimed for him...
someone who for some reason wants to either drink blood, or feel they are feeding on some manner of energy, I make no claims either way if such are real, but live in a realm of maybe's...
we all live and die as normal, can get sick, though some rarely do, and some heal faster that others, though all that is well within scientific reality
energy does exist, and IS given off by all things..again scientifically proven, and energy CAN be manipulated...also provable...but whether a person with no equipment can do it...possible...but unproven at this time....so I won't say impossible...just implausible

im not sure if Don is a real vampire or not, dressing up like that and having fangs is just too stereotypical to be real yet he was right about some of what he said.

Also, what makes him any less deserving?Because he chooses to wear fake fangs as opposed to using flowery words or other such things?Because he doesnt appear to slam others or discredit them in order to make himself look better in his attempts to convince others that he is the real thing?Obviously he has worked to estblish hisself, and has "followers",who seem to respect him?.He has also been somewhat successful in getting outsiders and nay sayers to listen to what he has to say.So would you really take away credit from one where credit might be due?

What makes him less deserving? Well he is all about money and fame, and once he gets it, he will start to behave big and nobel like he is the king of the world, where he will open loads of private establishments preying on his low class workers and cheating them for every cent. All these figures are the same, just trying to sell them selves big with all kind of ideas, where upon success they finally express their true form, loathsome and lazy, with their stretched over faces to make all that even better.

So anyone who gets any attention is all about money and fame..interesting that we can assume that about everyone who finds themselves in that position. And yet there are those who might say the same thing as you do,but at the same time are bucking and vieing for the very same...recognition , acknowlegement and finally acceptance.
Ironic .

A social implosion very messy, the alienation that the group members goes through as the leader starts spreading things to thin, subjecting their teachings to scrutiny, (most leaders, titled people present one thing to out group people, then another to in-group people.) which raises questions to the current devoted, not knowing if a member is there to mock the others.

Not sure Dab,I really dont quite understand all the dynamics that a group of this kind goes through at this point, but I do find it discouraging as far as any hope for Vampires to meet their objective, because from the looks of it,Don's outlook closely, although not in all things, resmble many of those here, yet ,there is an istant resentment, simply because he has gained the very notoriety and acknowlegment they seem to be seeking .Yes,like your PMajor suggested,it looks much like jealousy.
Thing is,from what I can gather,he has been around for alot longer than most..or at least recognised longer,so I could see where some would bestow the title he has.At least those in his imediate group. Now,it only looks like everyone is only focused on the fact he has gotten air time..and all of a sudden,he is "not deserving" because of pressumed behaviours he will supposedly exibit in the future because f it.I felt the man seemed to be a fairly good embassador and spokesman for the Vampire community.
And again I wonder if our Prince Cancer fits into that very heirachy.

As far as Sarah..its pretty obvious what she is after..and that is power and fame.It was in everything she said, the way she presented herself and her body language.
Personally,I believe he fell into it because of his already established position in the exsisting Vampire community.

The showmanship factor, balenced with what the producers wanted to hear. They did do a lot of dub overs, he was expounding on every other question he would go off on a tangent . The show sometimes sound bits off air banter (prep questions) to edit in at moments when an interview dips off course.

Shame I don’t like that music … great vid though.
Reading over the post I feel you guys are being way to judgmental.
Sure there are cuts on the TV show, that’s how it’s made.. so you have room for adverts.
Sorry if Don is not TV cool … he’s just a lifestyler placed on TV, knowing the majority are skeptic or worse .. even with a normal audience one can develop stage fright.
To be honest big kudos to him for following his dreams and beliefs … what have you done?

That video had more than Don, his friend who wrote the Vampyre Codex. She has also been seen on a TV show or two. I did like the music, but the editing was sota' bizarre.
Meanwhile most Vampyres that show up on TV usually end up famous Vampyres, at least for awhile. They give endorsements for custom made fangs and FX contacts. Some have written books and embark on a tour of TV, radio, and booksignings. Nothing wrong with making a living at it.
I would rather stay in the shadows.

Application, and Promotion, the modern day oddity, he stands out as a persona does the whole presentation, weither he does what he claims behind closed doors, and with any groupies, then he knows. Those claiming to be vampires leave a greater question of merit to their claim, at least don has a presentation.

I dont get the show so sadly I never saw it. All through history ppl confess that they are the king of one thing or another. I dont really take notice anymore if some profess to be the king of something anymore.

I check the credentials of anybody that claims a title. How many people lie on applications? How many more people embellish themselves, off paper?
