I was wondering how many people think or feel that an improper burial, or were the deceased who were forgotten and not given proper tributes. That they would or may return to the earth, not to seek revenge, but simply to torment and leech from the unfortunate people who crossed their path.
Eerie it this thread brings to mind the rash of shady funeral homes uncovered.
Personally other then through memory, I believe once
Your dead, you are dead. If this was a possibility then the numbers would be staggering. Those who claim the ability to communicate to what is refered to as disembodied souls would create a soup of communication.
Though I acknowledge the possibility of some part of a departed person's 'spirit' may remain behind after the death of the body, I do not think this would have anything to do with the treatment of the former body of the individual.
Most instances of hauntings seem to be centered around the manner or mode of death. A reaction to an untimely or violent end to the life of the body. I don't think the 'spitit' is concerned regarding the treatment of their former shell.
i dont think so .... i think most of the deceased that stay behind either dont know they are dead or had like said above had a tragic end and so stay behind for some reason like to help find there killers or more reasons like that........
There are plenty of other reasons to stay behind and torment certain people --- improper burial wouldn't top my list. But I can understand why in primitive times, when humans didn't understand the stages of death or decomposition, they would attribute strange happenings to improper burial.
Just think about all the murdered and abandoned bodies, or people who die in war and are not properly buried. Why aren't they roaming around causing havoc?
I tend to agree with silentsorrows for the most part a soul wandering around in our realm is lost and/or has no idea they are even dead.... Although I believe there are a few who remain behind that are completly filled with rage and are here simply to rain down suffering on one and all and clearly it would take more than an improper burial to produce such an angry spirit....
The ancient egyptians had many burial practices including rituals and questions that must be answered in order to ensure a safe journey to the afterlife.. If they were not followed it was said they would not gain admittance to their heaven and would undoubtedly be stuck here... Some further reasearch into ancient egyptian burial practices may be helpful....

As a paranormal investigator I can say it to be my beliefs that there are different kinds of haunts.
1. Residual~ A residual haunt is not a spirit at all but simply energy (as everything is made of energy) that still travels and can be dispersed away. It simply has one job and that job is to continue the pattern of someone previously over and over again. If you sit down on a sofa and then get up and walk into another room you have just created energy. Sometimes people will see that energy and mistake it for a ghost. A murder usually results in a residual haunting... it takes a lot of energy to do.. you have emotions, and the act itself working side by side causing a whirlwind of energy. Thats why it is said tragic deaths are what cause hauntings....
2. A spirit~ Many times a spirit doesn't realize they've passed on. They will continue on just as they did, and although eventually they may figure it out it can be a shock to them as well. To them seeing as they don't realize they've passed they could think we are the ghosts and be afraid of us which is a good reason to run and hide from anyone trying to talk to him/her. Most of us would run and hide if we thought we saw a ghost.
Another reason they may choose to stay behind is because they are attached to someone... perhaps a loved one they aren't ready to let go of..
Or perhaps they just don't know how to pass through the veil to get to where they need be.
All that said, I don't really think an improper burial would affect a spirit, because 1. if you don't know you're dead you wouldn't realize you weren't buried. 2. If you are attached to a person you don't wish to let go of, you really aren't thinking about your physical remains. 3. If you are lost and have no clue how to get through the veil you're REALLY not thinking of your physical being but more or less looking for someone to ask directions.
Now I suppose if you had a person who in life was adamant on how their physical remains would be laid to rest and they died and it wasn't followed through with they may stick round because they are angry and wish to torment the one that was left to make the final arrangements.
All in all spirits are people too. Not were but are... They feel emotion, and think just like us.. they just cant feel physical pain. So think of yourself, would you be upset once passed on if you weren't buried properly? If so then you've answered your own question because just like us this is a case to case scenario.
When a body is unaccounted for the Surviviors lack closure, they are in want of, this lingers in their life, as well as those who are by degree
(like a small town ghost legend.
Having worked in a cemetary, I would think this is not plasable. for think of the caskets that have to be moved after several years because of family desicions to go somewhere else or to move the cemetary to bigger locations and the casket breaks open, man they would be torremented alright. a sad thing have seen it several times. dead is dead
i want to say that their spirit might linger but i think it would be more in limbo than to haunt or for revenge purposes...more like they are looking for answers themselves
Hauntings always occure in this manner. Just as with accidental deaths, murder, suicide. Voilence in death lead to hauntings as well as poor burial services.
Alot of as said tormented souls walk the earth or go to hell, these being the suicides, the killers of this world, yet this is a myth for we as living do not know what may lie on the other side of deaths grasp.
we speculate and hope for better or worse. yet nobody has died for a period of long time and came back. the white light at the end of the tunnel. the light above the table. specualtion and guessing.
i dont really believe in hell...but i do believe in many things.
one possiblity might be that some cultures (ancient romans for instance) were fanatical about having a funeral that was done just a certain way.
if ones spirit was present, and seeing that things were not being done as they wished, they might show anger.
most of the angry spirit stories tho make me think the spirit is completely insane.
I see death in the stages, and my experience the Dream/ interactive hallucination I had was very panoramic I saw what I saw, assured that others would "trip" to there happy, perhaps a rigid person would struggle, being negative keeps the body from living, over investing the DMT to planning after life , emotions get neglected, the trip at the end is bad.. The idea that people may celibrate your death.. Haunting to the dieing mind.
Many different cultures through various times of man's history and different geographic locations have come up with vastly differing burial rituals. Most, if not all, have at some point, asserted that deviation from their accepted burial practices might lead to spirits which are not at rest. And yet, were there any truth to the assertion, the vast majority of the dead would indeed, be in a state of unrest because the vast majority of burial rituals simply can't comply with all of the various burial rituals all over the world and throughout history which are proclaimed as necessary to provide rest for the dead.
If we look to the evidence (the same thing we look to for every aspect of every moment of every one of our lives), we find zero credibility for the idea that there is anything left to linger about in any kind of sentient state after a person dies. They die, they're gone. Simple as that.
The burial service is for the living. For those to say good-bye.
The spirit moves on for its next journey. Hauntings happen when the dead are unwilling to let go. Usually after a violent or unexpected death.
A victim of a horrible crime is likily to "haunt a small town" the crime usually
Works its way into local lore. How is a crime picked? Relative to the surrounding sentiment, or memorial ( or lack of).
"ghost don't linger because they cannot pass on, or are unable, they linger because the living gravity them, rather then propel them.
This is my experience as a ghost.
Nefarious Geist are " Produced" in a similar manner.
Oceanne makes a note in the Furnace post for that.
There are two camps of believers I know, one accepts the after life as existing after life. Two is those who believe there is interaction between the
After life (beyond) and this life. Personally I find the idea of beceoning a deceased relative to "return" to attempt delievering a garbled message to through a medium to be rather selfish, more concern for asking the right questions of a person before they die, even though I don't believe what my friends believe ( beliefs they don't expect me to consider) I still know about their accepted personal meaning of dying.
Belief plays a part in that dying moment, I want assured friends.
I find people in every practice, and religion some adress ghost, others consider it occult, unless it is the Greatest Spirit.
To me my spirit is the make- up of chemicals in my body, resonated by my signature heart beat, dying at test with myself, perhaps an uploaded guide for hallucination, and my body has a chance to glance all the memories at once, dopes the body.. Breathe out, know you will be remembered, or relise
People will not miss you, and some may crlibtate you death. Even as an Escapist I allow for Just Desserts for the Cruel and Inhuman person, I know not as tormenting as he'll, or wondering the earth.. But in my story of works.
I don't believe that is true. I believe that the burial is more for the living than the deceased honestly. I mean there are different ways to be burried or laid to rest so they can't all be wrong.
I think that there is something to be said for spirits bieng tortured and having to remain in one place for a reason. Whether it is to transmit a message or to be freed from someone living holding on. I have expierenced enough paranormal activites in my life to know that on some level these things do exist and so they cannot be discounted
I have seen people confronted by their unsettled ghost. I know the imprints, or even something as basic as a news paper front page story can be projected by a image sensitive, mentalyand ,Sentimentaly, imprinted, any abstract surface , and phenomenal motion of light (Or lack of light) in a conductive environment. Just my experience watching people see, and react to "ghost".
I honestly don't think that it's possible. While I do believe that it is possible for spirits to come back, I doubt that they would come back to reek havoc on other's lives simply for the fact that their burial wasn't satisfactory. I've always believed that when a Ghost comes back, they think we're the ghosts as well. To them, we're just spirits, so why would they care if their burial wasn't like the most awesome spectacle ever? They wouldn't. I seriously think that burials and what not are more to appease the broken hearts of the living loved ones of the deceased than anything else.
The burial is for the living to give them peace of mind not the other way around. But it does raise a good question I mean makes me think of Gravedancers one of the 8 films to die for.
Gravedancers is also a work of fiction, and as with all other works of fiction, has no bearing on reality.
Gravedancers fiction huh the movie may but I do think this is fact. society has many rituals for the died.
Fact is a bit of an overstatement. Just because society has rituals for the dead doesn't really mean much of anything. At one time, 'society' would stone adulterers to death, along with people who gather sticks on the Sabbath. Popular opinion has no bearing on fact. Primitive beliefs on what happened to the body after it died has influenced many cultures throughout history, but is there any reason to believe that unless a body is embalmed according to ancient Egyptian ritual, that it won't make it to the afterlife? If you don't put a coin under the tongue of a deceased person, will they not be able to pay the toll for the ferry across the river Styx?
yes and no fiction the ferryman or embalming, death is death, there is nothing more for that shell to do. corode and become earth in what it first was.
rituals and atoment is in every culture, for respect and high regards to the dead. celebrations, rituals, cannibalism of the dead to get some of their wisdom.
Well stated, fear has the alluring power of cultures. Death is no different.
Yet the post stated or wanted to know if improper burial would bring the dead back ot haunt or torment.
Yet if this was the actul case alot of the dead bodies buried without proper burials from serial killers and such. we would be infest to high heavens with spirits.
alot of bodies of the killed have yet to be found, so is this a case or is it just moved bodies from cememtary to another or someone walking on the grave. crows flying over a fresh grave.
superstitions and rituals of the fearful.
Exactly. We'd be OVERLOADED with spirits. There'd be no question as to their existence, as they'd be all over the place.
There is rites of passage in some cultures that teach people to let the dead pass, those I know from that culture are very much against mediums, it is an insult to them pretending to contact spirits in the beyond. One such Family disowned their step daughter because she had visited a medium, and then tried to relate what that medium told her about the son of the family.
When peoples faith is selfish, and they invest so much of themselves into what "comes next", they lose miss something here, in that final hour, those who have a preset program (projectible, imprinted concept) it will be "visualized" as the DMT comforts them, what of those who demand so much from their DMT supply in life?
What of those who are rigid, and self retentive?
Having watched a few people dying, and approaching the threshold myself. I am Assured in regards to dying, what I have "projected suits me. Let your deceased pass their way.. if they have no way.. or you dont know their way.. then learn from that, and ask your remaining family, and loved ones, the reason for sharing faith is for those moments when closer comes with basic faith, or Assurance.
Can you picture yourself watching a person slip into death?
I dont think improper burials can cause a spirt to wander the earth, though i have to say i dont like the sound of someone not getting a proper send off - it just doesnt FEEL right O.o
I suppose it would depend on the deceased and how much it matterd to them.
If it was as black and white as the question, could you imagen how old battlefields may present themselfs?
i think strongly that something can go on after death...and yes...id say there is some pretty good evidence for that.
i know a number of people that have seen things, felt things, etc....and i have as well.
Shadows out of view of the eyes or a cold chill, phantoms of images in pics. possible yet not probable.
I believe in after life yet is it my dream or hopes that this soul will still be alive after this body is gone.
i have yet to witness this but i keep an open mind, strange things have happened around me yet i always say the wind or whatever.
Did you know Adrenline is a Drug?
Can you accept the possibility that when you are on the threshold, and your body "scrambles" all sources, that the mind, being the same mind that crafts your dreams, from fragmented subconscious "input, so imagine how much more so Beliefs "input", or "program" the mind for the Final Projection.
People mention seeing many things, usually aligned with their beliefs.
I can hear in narrative those who have shared The Final Projection. I can account only for what I "saw"/ "experience".
Dying is not a mystery to me anymore. I don't accept petty implications that something doesn't die. I want a smooth release, stressing the final moment really lags the projection your mind has prepared, I know this!
Investing so much to the "programing" of the mind, leaves one short in compacity to fully engage life. Dwelling on the death of others is futile beyond common mourning, and memorial, speak with your loved ones while they are alive! Why haunt your own mind, so every stray breeze, every natural abstract inconsistancy becomes some glaring sign. Celibrate life!
In Vampire Lectures which I don't recommend because too dense and written as if he were high or trapped in the eighties, Rickles approaches vampirism from a psychoanalytical viewpoint saying it is all about mourning, which makes sense especially when it comes to mothers.
Ok so what would the case then be for those that are MIA and no bodies have been found or recovered ? Do you think that the person would linger around until their corpse is found ?
Such people would die lonely, wondering if they will be found. Their surviviors would wonder as well.
Without all the added hub-bub death is a complete package.
One thing that gets to me honestly, is how the faith of others is interjected into the death of others, if someone was not " born again", and a family member assigns their faith to the death, that sucks, it no doubt presses on the minds of those who rather just consider that person dead, at peace, checked out, maybe they personally knew the persons accepted understanding of Dying. How selfish people can be about the death of others, expecting them to gravitate to the earth to ease petty insecurities.
To me personally I have assurance, rather then some self involved belief.
People who believe doubt in the final moment, they lose something, it shows.
I am one to believe that hauntings have nothing to do with the flesh but the spirit and how it was treated. The treatment you give to those around you effects your spirit. The choices you make in life also effect your spirit. If a spirit is tormented it is possible that once the flesh is gone the spirit sticks around due to memory or simply they are lost or angry and can not move on until they have made peace or found peace. Peace is different for everyone.
The energy or spirit lingers because of what... death is death and yes maybe a few anomilies to say exist, yet if every soul that has passed, nd has not been buried right or war. the energy on this planet would be off the charts.
new source of energy to say. scientific examples or non examples of spirits is still up in the air.
Personally I am convinced ghost do not exist in any physical way, psyiologically I can tell when a person is haunted, or is observing ghost. I can also tell when a person is sharing a ghost tale.
Some people will commit pious theater to impress others in their beliefs.
How many people claim to see spirits, or feel when a dear person has passed? Is that super natural in nature? Personally I know it is subtle instict
Relating to our introduction to death. Rites of Passage appear in many cultures to prepare for watching people die. Insisting that another person suspend there ideal death to consider another persons faith.. That is not realistic. Sharing is one thing, conversion is another. In the end it only benifits the individual, pressing conflicting beliefs can hinder a dying persons projected metaphoric amophic halluncination.
