Congrates,
Reading a members profile can sometimes demonstrate a collective shared
concept.
I always look at the date that the profile was started, the level, and the date they last were on to see if they are active or not, plus if they have simular interest as the concept of the Coven that it is based on . hope that helps. :)
Dont commit forced induction - If someone wants to join your team by all means i'm sure they'll prefer being approched.
As for criteria for induction - Unless you have something to offer in which they want, i would throw your criteria out the window.
I would NEVER ask/beg to be inducted into a coven on here. They are tyrants.
Forced induction is not the way I choose to go but, I do understand why it is done. Cancer has allowed it and it is appropriate.
I think if I were a Coven Master searching for prospective members, I'd use the some of the following criteria:
1) Neat profle that is coherent and nicely written without too many quizzes and pictures to take up space. You can also look in the Journal, if they have one, to find out more about the person. What is also important: that you have no issue with the points and opinions made on the profile. If foul language is a problem, you might want to look at that as well. You want people in your Coven who will represent it, and you as a Coven Master, well.
2) Membership/Participation: How long has the person been at VR--if they are a lower level and have been here a while--most likely the person is not that active. I am sure you would like members who participate, especially when your coven is new.
If the person seems like he'd be a good addition to your Coven, then personally contact him/her and talk to them and scope them out a bit more--find out what they like to do here in VR (i.e., do they rate profiles, return rates, submit database entries or post in the Forums).
alot of good advice here and I also do not do force inductions even tho' it is allowed LOL
I agree with dabbler, one should read profiles and journals to see if this person will be best in your coven, thus work hard for you!
Thank you everyone!
Your suggestions are very helpful.
Communication.
Message the members you're interested in, talk to them, get to know them. Decide whether or not you feel this member would be a valuable addition to your society and what they may bring to your society.
Whether force inducted or not, you're going to have to communicate with them at some point, why not start there?
I always look at the 'last on' date on their profile; usually if they've not been on in the last 2 or 3 weeks they're probably not going to be that active - although if the profile is good I will keep nipping back to see if it changes.
Well we must see the movements and adoption of the VR customs of that kin and how fast convey his messages to the Peepal while rating them. This must be the base of inviting person or induction forcefully, coz if member not adopted the VR customs well and have attitude problem, it is a waste to the Coven. If he or she flourish in the VR custom, will be an asset to The House or Coven... coz of active participation and harmony.
If you compare the, profile created date with their level, you will have an Idea of how active they are. Quickly go through the last couple pages of tehir rate and see how many people they have blocked. If they have blocked more than 1 or 2 comments, chances are they are fecal rearrangers.
i followed he vr rules mostly. For all the societies I ahve been in, as ACM and now with both my covens where I am cm, I used the forced induction to start.
We all need favors to began, so I used it to be noticed and show: Hey! why not try it? You might like it? If not, don't worry I wont keep you long.
And so far it worked well.
I only had to let got with my main coven 3 persons to prugatory by personal decision, du to their threats and agreesiveness. The rest finaly loved it and when to another society where they ask to go because they made friends and loved it, so I let them go, it was a win win.
As time goes, I stop doing it, I rarely do it on my main coven. my ACM also are wonderful, they talk with new prospect, I do the same.
As for going to talk to other society's member, I was warn by a society master not to do that. I was told not to talk to the members of her society, and try to steal them.
I do not mind of others talk to my members, but I respect the fact that others don't want us to talk to their members.
I also check the date of create profile, level, and last on.
I also do not dictate the content of the profile of the members I induct, as I noticed a few were offended by previous society that commanded them to place the society symbole on the profile. I do not ask that and never will. The profile is personal, and it already says membership. No need for more.
I consider there are ways to find the right person, each have their ways, and none is better then another. It is simply a mther of what makes you feel at ease and is natural for you.
Natural is always the best way.
Induct people who are promised to other Covens.
Great way to get favor, that.
As for members, force induction is your friend. Members that are above level 20 and below 100 have no choice as to where they can go. Just because you force induct a member, doesn't mean they won't like your Coven.
If the member acts childish, they shouldn't be on VR and should delete their profiles. They'd also make a good speed bump over in Purgatory.
Forced induction is a cancer on this site. I even put on my profile that i didnt want to be in a house/coven and still i was inducted *Sigh* ive never used there forum, i dont rate profiles or poles. The only thing i do do on VR is the main forum.
So then, why would anyone want me in there coven?!
RELLEAASEEE MEEEE, RELLEAASEE MY BOODDYYY. :)
TheKing:
I think you are going a little astray with this. This particular thread was not meant to be about Forced Induction, but what criteria a Coven Master might use/take into consideration when looking for prospective Members for His/Her Coven. Induction is a term used when any Member is newly brought into a Coven, whether forced or not.
I totally Agree with you PsiVampire, just because they were inducted before soeaking to them does not mes that they have to stay in said coven. That is what trades are for.
As per VR manual::
If you do not understand the underlying concepts behind forced induction you should not be a member of Vampire Rave.

Now on another thing, I agree with MBK for purgatory, I did it a few times in all the covens I am in and both covens I am cm in, I grabed a few and send them to purgatory if they act to offensive. But also I got a few that after have learn to like my society, if not they have ask to be traded and that helps you start for favors.
We all need favors, one thing also I noticed is since my acm have write in their stamp that we are inducting, we gained a few member who ask to be in.
I also on my other account, cm, I got a few members because when they came in the alliance they wanted to be in my society, so they still have access to their original but are in a new home where they feel they belong.
Just a taugh. Good luck
I do agree with MBK, maybe forced induction will be the way to go (at least for awhile). I also agree with Cancer that, if people don't understand "forced induction", they shouldn't be on this site.
Thank you for the insight everyone.
on forced or reg induction to a house or coven.
A member doesnt have a choise when he or she becomes level 20 that is in the rules and the fact is no matter how much you can complain about that on here everyone on this site no matter how much they like it or dislike it is going to be placed in a coven or house no matter what. that is just how it is here on the rave. This is all a given fact and it is why you need to work on becoming a sire so that can be elimated for you.
on choosing a new member to a house or coven
I think it is the stats on how long a person how been here and how fast it took them to get to their current level. I f you that person has friends in your coven ask the members of the coven if anyone has talked to this member about joining them. You could have coven members who do the recuiting for you and then you can choose whiether or not that new member have what it takes to be in your coven or house. To me it is just finding right mix of people to keep things interesting and fun. hopefully that help you out a lil more.
thanks,
Dmz
I start by reading their profile and checking the dates of when they joined vs their level if they've been a member 2 years and are just getting to induction level then you can guess they might not be that productive a member but it always comes down to message them and talk with them. See if they would be a good fit with your ideal of how your society will work. Just be flexible so you don't lock yourself into a head butting contest.
Trying to force a square peg into a round hole (society) will probably make you both miserable.
Forced induction has it's place and many a person has found a good home by just that method.
Don't forcibly induct anyone.
You will then have members that have no interest in your coven, won't participate, and will just generally be grumpy.
:D
I should know. I was one of the above mentioned inductee several times.
Personally forced induction has neem here from the start...I have been force inducted myself a few times...the thing to remember is you can always trade em were they wanna go and if you dont force induct remember that the early bird gets the worm. I do agree to check members last date online and how much effort they put into there profile says alot about how they feel about VR. When scouting I would definently read their profile to make sure they wont be a thorn in your side. Lets face the facts this is vampire rave and forced inductions are how covens are built. What I wouldnt do is trade for someone against there will as I feel that would be in bad taste.
I usually just message potential members. or my ACM does. get a feel for them, see if they will fit with the other members of the coven. I understand forced induction. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. i prefer to have people that want to be in my coven and will get along with other members and participate. will follow the rules i set. this avoids the drama and problems with other members in the coven. sure you want favor, sure you want members, but you also want everyone to get along and participate.
This is just what I do. Everyone has their own way of doing things. you just have to figure out what will work out best for you and what you want your coven to be like and stand for.
I look at the date the profile was created and what level they are up too and how long it took them to get there, and last time they were on -- Most times I don't ask, I just
induct them -- And message them right away .
Nice going on making ACM.
In the coven I am in we are selective on who we want to join and do not forcibly induct anyone. Our criteria is based on the type of coven that we have and also the type of people we want. Usually we will message a prospective member to see if they are interested in joining. How we select those is by reading their profiles to see if their personality is what we are looking for. Of course we have gotten some that did not work out so traded them out to other covens that they would have been more suited for. If a member decides that they do not want to be a part of our team any longer all they have to do is to request trade after messaging the master of our team as well as the one they are wanting to be traded to.
I know everyone does theirs differently and it is up to you to ultimately decide on how you wish to do it.
Well, first off...I will have to state my (unpopular with lots of people I know opinion). The people in this thread stating "Do not force induct" should not be on VR. Go away. I know so many people that don't agree with it. It isn't evil, or a sin. I also agree that the Promised to this and that Coven tags should be banned, so bite me.
I will relay this...I have two profiles. I have been inducted 3 times. Or inducted twice and traded without realizing it was being done once. I have spoken at length with all three CMs.
I haven't found one yet that just made me want to puke. I did have an issue with the first. As such, I can also say this truthfully. You do not have to tap that little Coven link on your page. You can enjoy the wonders and thrills of VR without even bothering to pay one little lick of attention to the Coven you are in.
Follow VR rules and make your own friends. Level up and leave. You don't have to participate if you don't want, and most CMs will trade you out if you don't like the people in the Coven. If you try, they will usually be willing to find you a good home. If you don't, you won't care where you are. If you act like an ass, you deserve to delete or go to Purgatory.
If you don't like the system, the delete button is at the bottom of your profile edit page. Go cry on someone else's site. It is getting old fast, and I don't want VR to change. The Dark Network is the only reason I get on the Internet. All of the other sites suck, specifically because the Admin. cater to whinny jerks who can never be pleased.
I was spoken to by the first CM's trade master before induction. I didn't realize they would induct me as two others had also spoken to me. I didn't mind. I tried to like everyone in the coven. I ended up in an argument and so I just enjoyed VR without going into the Coven for a while. I am sure we would have resolved the issue (as it was minor), but I lost my internet.
When I came back, it was to another Coven. I didn't mind. I love the name. I love the ACM. I love several members, and the CM is rather nice too. The aliance Coven is polie. It might not be the most entertaining place to be, but it isn't bad. The CM is a trip when he is in the mood to talk...lol.
I agree with Serenity, MBK, and PsiVamp.
The third induction was a tossup. I had 3 places sitting on me and several more really wanting me also. I never knew I would get so popular. I have no clue why. I personally picked Lunazure, and had two of their girls waiting to get me, but as stated before...I had 3 Covens sitting on my page. The last level was slow going. My page kept freezing due to too many people trying to induct me at once. It is a little funny when you think about it.
I love that coven too. The people are wonderful. The CM is an old, dear friend from the first Coven, but I still think I would have liked Lunazure. Billy was really nice and we had a lot in common. Maybe I will still go there...in time. As a Sire, I can go where I want, so no worries.
I say this. Find people who fit your style. Talk to them. Don't ask if they would like to be inducted. You can ask if they think they would like your Coven for an honest opinion, but in the end it is up to you. If you feel they would learn to like you, your members, and your home...induct. If you make a mistake, trade them out to a place they like or you think they would like later on. Even if they make the rounds to all Covens, more the better. When they hit Sire, they will know where they would like to go...won't they? The more homes you have, the better off you are, and the more friends you make.

i will approch a member i think would fit in and ask if they wish to join that is the way i do it and all of my members are happy and there is no drama in the coven
"I totally Agree with you PsiVampire, just because they were inducted before soeaking to them does not mes that they have to stay in said coven. That is what trades are for. "
Trades are completely useless to me considering that i dont want to be apart of a coven...
What i'm trying to point out is that i'm not a Team player. I dont gain favour for the coven so me being apart of that group is pretty....pointless, isnt it?
Now if you go down the road of forcefully inducting members, what i'm saying is your team is going to be full of people that dont want to be there and thus, your forums empty, your favour low, and your happy little family down and out without a whim of enthusiasm.
:):):):):):):):):):) Forced induction - A cancer to covens XD
Exactly. The whole point of a coven is to gain favour. I'd outline this before anyone was inducted.

The best way is your way.
This is a vampire-themed site. Forced induction is a vampire theme. I you don't like or understand that, what is it about vampires that you do like and understand?
"Forced induction is a vampire theme."
Eh? since when?
Sinec when a vampire bites you and makes you one of his children against your will thats normally the case the vampire doesnt ask. I feel if I ran a coven of my own and I force inducted as long as they were polite about it id trade em were they wanted to go and if not if they try to cause trouble Id blind them and they would be my favor slave until they leared how to be polite. Force induction its a fact here on VR and thats the way Cancer wants it so I dont question it :)

TheKing - The system was set up in a specific way, which encourages forced inductions. If you have such a huge problem with it, you don't have to be a member of this site. All the whining and railing on forced inductions will not change things. If you want to have a say on where you go, all you can do is hit Sire as soon as you are able. Until then, you don't have a say on what Society you end up in. I hate to put it this way, but until you do hit Sire, you are nothing but a commodity, to be traded, inducted, or used simply to pick up favor.
Now, to get back to the topic at hand, many of my criteria for picking up good members has already been stated time and time again here.
I would like to add that I agree with what Imagesinwords said, the right way to go about things is your own way. You can ask for tips, but in the end, you're the one making the decisions for what will be good for your Coven. Only you can choose what's right for you and yours.
TheKing-u are in a coven by choice or not and when you log on you are giving that coven favor so why be so negative if you try it you might find out hey this place is not so bad or you can just delete if you really feel that way not to sound like a jack----s but read the vr manual sometime it says well nevermind you can read it oh and have a nice day sir

The vampire doesnt ask? Hmm, i suppose it uses its telepathic powers then? A favour slave? You'd blind them? Perhaps you should see that there is more to life then trying to control people and getting them to suck up to you. If your coven sucks, Why the hell should i contribute? As for your last line, typical. Sheeple. Sheeple. Sheeple.
I'm not going to leave this site because i dont like forced induction, If half of you actually read my comments correctly i was merely stating that by inducting people forcefully into a team they dont want to be in, your not going to be running a very good coven because they wont gain favour, nor use your forums and thus there being there would be pointless.
But seriously, if you loved forced induction its clear to say your a PM who's into S&M, long profiles, profile rates no less then a 10 and generally, trying to force your view down others throats.
Old skool maan.
I hate to be rude, but "King" (honestly) just delete and save our brains from exploding. VR is specifically designed to get rid of bitching whining jerks...*ahem* that would be YOU!
Then i guess VR is a Fail then considering the "bitching blah blah blah" (people with a decent opinion) are still here :)
You might not like what i say, but it wouldnt be the first time someone on here didnt like the blunt truth *rolls eyes and poses like a KING*
I say the best way to gain new members is to talk to those you have interests in. My Coven is by invite only or by my induction. Honestly you will gain members by the others you have along with you.
King: Hmm dont like societies I take it. Posting those statements on ones pro only makes you a target to do just what you really dont want. I have one now I forced only to speak to before another society had the chance. has the same I dont want to be here or there so dont bother stuff on their profile.
Now if they had messaged me stating I really dont want to be here as its not a right place for me. I would have easily released them. No issues with that at all. But since they wished to not take that route they remain in the Coven Blinded and will remain that way until they learn to speak like an adult. Now I am not a tyrant nor do I run my Coven this way. Just feel lucky its not like it used to be on here with societies.

Actually, the last time i didnt put a message on my profile about being inducted, i was STILL inducted. The statment on my profile now was merely to warn that i'm not going to be of any benefit. As for being blinded and such for NOT telling you they didnt want to be in your coven, how is that not tyranical? Until they learn to speak like an adult? To your standards i take it? You see, this is exactly that attitude i do not like from CM's. I'm not here to be treated like a peice of meat because i didnt level or earn enough favour. Gee'z, if only there was a way to decrease the amount of favour you gained for your coven. That would chill a few of you out.
I look for active members...
And I also don't do forced inductions.
First, I message the member with a simple "Hey, how's your day going?" and then when they reply I ask "So, what Coven are you considering going into?" and if they say none yet... Then I ask them if they'd like to join Unwanted Tragedies and then send them a link to check it out.
If they like it, I induct them.
A little investigation in the profiles and how active the members and how often you see them..
King, you aren't acting like an adult now, so I agree with Grievous...You sound like a kid screaming, "he took the last cookie; I wanted one. Where is MINE?"
I personally didn't like being force inducted when I reached level 5 on the old system, but I must say I totally object to the stamps on profiles that beg you not to force induct a member as they are promised to another Coven. Force induction is the norm no? If it was unacceptable, Cancer would stop it. Hell, as I think it was Cancer himself said, 'If it was a real vampire, you wouldn't get the choice of being bitten or not.."
I feel that saying some if they would like to join is always a good place to start, and I think that I would choose my "office holders " according to maturity , I have noticed that when some hold a position they let it go to there heads . If you say you are only going to induct certain types pf people or ages then stick to it so as not to confuse the other members. Some Coven masters seem to forget that with out members there is no coven. Involve your members.
I am acting like a child for defending my opinion? how typical.
"'If it was a real vampire, you wouldn't get the choice of being bitten or not..""
Actually, in MY view about vampires, you would get a choice. This forced induction thing is a matter of opinion and ive had mine so get over it :)
The King, is there a coven of which you'd like to be a member? They're not all terrible. Some are actually fun & cater to certain things; art, poetry, music, etc.
This is in reference to forced inductions and some liking it and others not liking it. One thing about them is that they do give covens bargaining power with other covens and those members can be traded out for favor. So even though some may not like it..it is the way the system was set up and has been this way ever since I first became a member. Granted I did not like it or understand it when I first came here but have come to accept it.
I would say that the criteria you may be looking for in members should be what you want your coven to be about. Whatever your theme is, induct people that will get along well with that theme and the rest of the members of your coven.
Personally, I'd say look for members that are active, that will make good contributions to your forums and polls. People who've read the VR Manual are also very good people to look out for.
Even though I am in a coven that doesn't forcibly induct, I don't see a problem with forcibly inducting. The main reason is was established was to keep with the vampire lore of this website. Personally, I think more covens should do it if it fits in for what they stand for. That is what the trade system is for. trading forcibly inducted members, gain favor, and earning ranks.
If you want a coven with just a bunch of your friends in it, mayby force induction isn't the best thing, because eventually it may cause strife. But if you want to make a coven for friends, finding new people, hey, forcibly induct. There is nothing wrong with it in my opinion. It's what vampires do.
Make sure they were on in the last mo. a tleast . And yes I have found good members by force induction. Once they were in and found out our house is not full of rules all was calm. SO you want them take them. lol Also put your ad out there and see who finds you. Good luck in you hunting.
