Greetings,
I don't know if this has been covered in previous threads, so here goes...
i think some who say they are vampires are just posers, some who are real may claim to the public to be real vampires, but it is hard for me to see a real vampire come out, especially with how sociaty is towards the non normal people or some twlight obsessed fan would stalk a vampire
this is just my opinion
Perhaps it would be easier to ask why the wouldnt? Though then that might make your question cliched.
Anyhow, If the legend is correct, then vampire's cannot come out in the day. Considering that, it counts are one of there major flaws. Now "coming out" to humans would be like saying "we can kill you in a breath, but you can easily get rid of us via UV rays" Thus, vampire's seize to have the upperhand.
So why not just run things in the shadows? Even if they did exist, you wouldent mingle with your prey would you?
Of course you would... unless you would seem more alien and inhumane than you already would. Human beings tend not to question the slightest variances so long as the majority fit to the pattern of what is considered "normal."
i don't think that they would. why bother they avoiding being detected for so long andi don't think that they have much or nothing at all to gain from exposing themselves.
I honestly can't bring myself to say that I believe in vampires in the first place.
I mean vampires, like IWAV, and QOTD, and etc.
I do believe in spectral/ghost vampires who feed off of energy until they consume the person and death takes the victim.
I would LOVE to say they exist especially since they have so much valor and lore in history. It would be such a waste to see all that history and documentation falsified.
But let's say that they are 'indeed' real.
Why ruin a good thing?
You have a very good and strong society with a matriarch and patriarch. No presidents and ect.
They have rules and regulations, that are more based upon vampire instinct than common law.
And who says nobody knows about them, that they don't rub elbows with humans?
They have secret societies dedicated to these immortal gods/esses. That protect them, hide them, feed them, and fill them with **pleasures**, **human blood, human-vampire bonding/ritualistic or affectionate sex**
I think Vampires in as a whole want respect, and not many people like hiding their true nature(self). Not only that but they can get jobs and as charline harris writes they can mainstream, make big money, and be feared, glorified, and respected by the human race. who wouldn't want everyone to know there on top the food chain.
For one, anybody that comes out of the blue and says they are a vampire will more than likely get ignored for it. That's about as lame as myself telling people that i'm human. And? Ok so you're a vampire. And?
I would think that if vampires truly existed would be very particular in whom they told their personal business, or as with anyone, would want to feel some sort of trust with the one whom they reveal such allegations. Anyone can SAY they are but can you prove it?
And i would say that if i was a vampire myself....with these abilities and hiding all the time, sure it would get old but it's a game of survival. Mankind isn't exactly the most understanding race of beings on Earth but there are some that are acceptable to the possibilities. I wouldn't say top of the food chain for there's always other things of which we don't understand right around the bend....
This is also assuming that anyone professing to be a vampire is believed.
Another angle I have not seen mentioned, it the presence of the internet. One may profess almost anything within its relatively safe and anonymous environment.
I say: if feeding of blood is the case that prevent this event, and if science somehow brings a synthetic substance that does the same as human blood, then the possibilities of the revelation wouldn't be a problem, since they don't have to prey and reveal that face/side of the nature behind the race, that would cause havoc and fear on human individuals. It wouldn't be a problem if they live in nest or community to support each others with vampiric orientated behavioral regulations and supply of blood and well everything as well. Although it would bring more damage than good in terms of cause and effect, and many things will crumble in regards of ethics, human laws and many things, I think doing things latent is better until given time in which our "race" reach the maturity of acknowledging things outside the sacred books and TV.. Science in given time will help this leverage if fundamentalism doesn't crucify it.
Most people would consider you a nutcase if you straight out came and told people that you were a Vampire.
The only way a vampire will reveal themselves is if say, science has a method for cloning or (ala the HBO show, True Blood) or making synthetic plasma.
Then the vampire becomes a fact of normality; there's no real "mystique" anymore because your neighbour down the street is now akin to people with medical conditions restricting their diets; such as diabetics and Celiacs than Dracula (the one that turns into a bat; not the one who impaled the Turks).
Otherwise, a vampire is going to stick to the shadows.
Is it the general consensus, that vampires must be nourished from human blood?
Excellent question. A true Vampire, never will tell anyone about it. The secrecy between Vampires exist and will exist for the next generation. The miss-conception created by the movies and the press (Books) are making the Vampire race a pure joke. So, like I said, the secret will remain to be hear only for the selected.
Self preservation, is one good reason not to come out. People are still afraid of what goes bump in the night and to have to see it face to face would scare the living crap out of most people. I live in a town where you can't throw a rock with out hitting a church when I pick my son up from school he cries because he gets teased for what I am. I got called so many bad names I don't go out much anymore looking the way I did before I moved to the town I am staying in.
Is that not a good enough reason to stay hidden and blend in with the flock of sheep I'm surrounded by. Pretend you're a follower you get further in life. But I always in my heart stay true to what I am by natures gift.
I am thinking to myself that it truly a shame, all the responses from this thread save for ~Upirs~ post, really define why the vampire would remain in hiding in the first place.
You people really have no clue as to why the vampire would or wouldnt, just ideas and opinions. WOW!
No wonder why the secrecy is still prevalant. Its lack of knowledge and research that keeps society down. Lack of actual realistic empathy for the vampire.
Well then if it was in fact "poor" conception of the author inquiry, then why don't you enrich the discussion with something more valuable than ranting like you know something that others lack of. How authentic assertions can you bring with your tone, to this discussion? As if you were a "vampire" and know exactly why they "wouldn't step out the shadows" figuratively speaking> which probably we will get the same sensationalist response. The question is, what can you bring that is in fact "validate" from all the others responding here or that held some sort of higher "research" in the opinions?
I agree with what upirs does say in regards to why or why not they stay in hiding. You really can't knock anyone for their own personal opinion as to why though, that's what the forum is for to share ideas and an opinion is an idea to me.
I will not plague this discussion with loose philosophies when the posters seem to be doing just fine on their own.
My posts are not to discredit the thread, but to emphasize a point. Not many people can offer convictions based on why certain members of society would rather stay in hiding then surface. Unless those certain members within society either know what its like to be shamed, ridiculed etc. Or live the hermits life just as well...
Society is plainly ignorant and your post justifies this assumption. Do not come at me with a lecture as if you either knew me, judge me, or in fact know what it means to be on the split side of a crowd full of mockery and shame for something they know little to nothing about.
i can see what IlLuminaria is saying though. why try to defend or justify something that has no truth behind it? how can one sit there and say we should have empathy for something that nobody has come out to enlighten us about as truth?
Empathy should come from society whether truth or false. Does proof need to be accomplished before attempting to believe? Come now...
I stand by my convictions and do not appreciate such backlash from the peanut gallery. Again, the begrudged posts justify why the vampire would not come out of hinding. Too much bantery for anyone who would defend the "hermit" kind.
I'm not exactly a herd follower kind. I don't believe everything i hear and read and most that claim to be vampiric on here (esp those boldly open about it), i don't believe or agree with at all. I don't believe liking blood or drinking it makes you a vampire, i don't believe having psi abilties makes one a vampire. Matter of fact there are people all over the world that can relate to such abilities that do not make such claims as being a vampire at all. Now as for needing something to believe in because someone said "it has to be true"....sorry but that's not how i function. There has to be some truth in it, or i'm not buying. People say more than they can put up.
~Sorvena~ I am not defending the roleplayers, or lifestylers... Let alone the "living vampires" out there. I am defending the true vampires out there that have not come out of hiding because of the lack of tolerance that society has for indivdiuals who seem to be higher on the foot chain then themselves. Be it sexually or mentally. No competetor likes cometition. Much like a pimp does not like loosing his money to the better "player."
Simply put, ~Upir~ said it best with his post.
To be alone in it`s self you want people to know you are alive that you do exist.
Think about it you do little things to show you are here give little hints even .
In a word lonely.
As well, no telling who the "puppet master" is behind most of the vampire historical accuracies.
An individual might reveal him or herself due to loneliness, or boredom but I cannot see a society that has lived and thrived in the shadows doing the same. Change is a strange and powerful thing; it can be something fearful... so why would a vampiric community want to reveal itself..? Why would they want to risk the fear of a race that strikes out at that which it does not understand? Even a synthesised substitute for human blood I believe would do little to ease the fears of those vulnerable persons suddenly told that there exists demons for lack of a better word.
If not fear, then power would ensure that humans react to such a revelation with violence. People in power are perhaps no more fearful than the average man, but they would have a vested interest in the status quo remaining as it is, and as it has been for some time.
As to the reasons for a vampiric revelation; well this, in my view, depends entirely upon the 'vampires' we'd be talking about... their attributes, their flaws.... are they nightwalkers, or can they exist in the light of day? What other attributes might they possess? What other weaknesses? Would they be hard to spot in a crowd - with the assumed knowledge that people in general would be looking and actually know what they'd be looking for?
There are no facts as far as these things go, only thoughts, opinions and reasoning.
And thus with corrupt reasoning from some within society would certainly be cause for such a revolt against something that society has little knowledge of.
"You people really have no clue as to why the vampire would or wouldnt, just ideas and opinions. WOW!
No wonder why the secrecy is still prevalant. Its lack of knowledge and research that keeps society down. Lack of actual realistic empathy for the vampire."
I'm pretty sure the people of this thread were asked for an opinion on it. If we knew the cold hard facts it wouldnt make much of a discussion would it?
Lack of knowledge? Empathy? As nothing can be proven, what do you expect from the Vampire Fan club?
A bit more grace would be pleasurable to say the least rather then acknowledging the bantery of a defender.
I would think, vampires of the true sence you asked about would not show them selves to other, that they would indeed keep to them selves and not mingle with the rest of society.
I really dont think that vampires truely exist. But if they did they would not risk bringing awareness to themselves. If they did then we would just have another occurance of the Salem witch trials except this time vampires would be targeted
Wow so much defensiveness over the vampire from this thread and yet we were just saying not too long ago that these beings whomever or whatever they are didn't like being labeled a vampire?
So what should we really be calling them? It sounds to me as if some of you either really KNOW something or you're defending something that possibly might not even exist. Which one is it? Why are you asking for sympathy for something that make actually be false?
That isn't my only concern though.....what did these beings do in the past that humanity would drive them out into the shadows and if they are sooo powerful, then why don't they come out and show they are not the dark evil spirited beings they are personified for?
I mean hell, from everything i've been seeing so far it seems to me there's a lot of confusion between people of what a "real" vampire is anyway.
As for sympathy....you can't say they aren't getting it from humanity because out of all the masses out there many that DO , all the time, fasinate about meeting or becoming just like them.
-Soulshroude- If you wanted to leave everyone to remain ignorant: What is your purpose to come here to say: "Oh you are all prime example of the ignorance in regards of the true occurrence behind the occultist behavior in X society"? if you are not going to shed light to your ranting; saying you know something others don't and furthermore negating to broad your assertions is in fact more "stupid" than stating "what you are" and "and the reason for not coming out" and receiving the backlash. I don't need proof for what i can read is "BS", 'cause i know some of the "thing" behind it- and what is deemed truth for one is nonsense to others, some may remount on seeking evidence and for those more cynical looking for links> which is more stupid in terms of reliability but "to each their world"; but what is to share when it may seem/deemed as conspiracy theory and in others an extension of more "ignorance/stupidity". "If you are going to bark fiercely, you better bite" if not then remain audit to the others perceptions of things, either you broaden of remain silent. To scream ignorant without anything to back it up is like we are going back to kinder.
Can we please keep the ranting and comments regarding other peoples views and opinions to ourselves. We are after all dealing with things that are not proven fact and a scenario which is for all intensive purposes hypothetical.
Sorvena -
I, for one, was so very impressed by the thoughtful consideration apparent in your questions. And as a result of which, I shall answer more candidly than ever I have here... or ever shall again.
You are correct that those vilified as "vampires" (as defined in the past 200+ years as evil, blood-sucking, parasitic supernatural beings) is indeed considered most offensive to those of the actual Rephaimite (to use the Semitic term) bloodline. However, as originally defined and as employed for over 500 years prior to this, the term "Vampire" was accurate and not at all offensive as its connotation was entirely different.
The term "vampire" (Upir'), as first penned by one such in 1047 CE, originally meant "feaster," which originally had nothing to do with blood drinking but was instead a sexual euphemism that directly derived from the original Christian "Love Feasts" (Agape feasts) in which sexual communion was the key ordinance thereof following a shared meal in preparation for same (see "Sacrament of the Bridal Chamber" from the 1st Century "Gospel of Philip"... and the fictional allusion to such as briefly portrayed in the movie "The Da Vinci Code"). This "Sacrament" was taught by the historical Jesus as the key to repairing the "rift of separation" (Gospels of Thomas and Philip) that had always separated men and women due to an inherent "inequality" there from the beginning and for which purpose he (Jesus) had actually come to resolve. It is all explained in both of these Gospels, which is why so often both these Gospels were found bound together in one book... just as they were at Nag Hammadi.
(The entire "Savior" and "Atonement" aspects of the historical Jesus were not originally claimed nor taught by Jesus at all, but were concepts invented by Paul [a man who never knew Jesus, who persecuted, tortured and murdered his followers, and was never ordained by either him or his actual apostles at any point in his life and who "retired" to his own Roman villa thereafter and was entirely permitted to continue running his church from same], so as to market his own Roman brand of Christianity to the Greco-Roman world for whom Jesus as the Jewish "Messiah" would have meant absolutely nothing.)
As for why this unique race has remained hidden... simply look at what has happened to them any and every time they have made an appearance throughout history:
The "Fallen Angels" and their families... slaughtered.
The continuing slaughter over centuries of anyone of "fallen angel" descent, as recorded repeatedly in the "Old Testament" up to and including the supposed "last" known such, Og, King of Bashan
The "Sons of Belial" who were of direct Rephaim descent and were living amongst the Tribe of Benjamin (whose very name means "Sons of Min") and who were framed for a crime committed by their accuser and then they were slaughtered along with the entire Tribe, itself, who had attempted to defend their innocence. In this slaughter every man, woman and child was murdered, all except for 600 men who had escaped.
The historical "Jesus," likewise the reported result of union between a celestial being who, like the "Fallen Angels" descended from the heavens and "went in unto" one of "the daughters of men" (reminiscent of Genesis 6:4) and who, like they, called himself a "son of God"... and who specifically declared his mission to be to "repair the (same) rift of separation" between men and women as had his ancestors before him who were likewise... betrayed and slaughtered.
And then... once the Christians discovered the surviving and prospering bloodline in Eastern Europe... who were known for their "insatiable sexuality" that was EQUAL with that of females, men again vilified them as evil, again accused them falsely of being "plague carriers" as well as drinking blood, etc., and the result was.. again... the same: MORE GENOCIDAL SLAUGHTER.
Thus... they remain to this day, "wandering stars" (Jude 1:13) and the religion begun by the historical Jesus was hijacked, derailed, and re-invented as the complete ANTITHESIS of everything the historical Jesus stood for and for which he sacrificed his life, and was successfully twisted into the very weapon used to hunt down and destroy others of the bloodline.
Given this and the continued popularity of Christianity together with the continuing sexual and emotional immaturity and insecurity of men today, would you reveal yourself to the world at large?
There... there are the key points a very very encapsulated and brief nutshell.
- Upir'
A key addendum to the prior post: for any who hold to Christian values and morality, none of the above was intended to offend nor to indict any such believers as knowingly or otherwise having anything to do with the historical crimes listed therein. The purpose was to simply and accurately answer the question of why "vampires" would remain hidden in today's world, which I chose to do in extremely synopsized fashion.
There are many wonderful morals and teachings found in modern-day Pauline Christianity and where any and all such are championed and followed by all, so much the better for Humankind. Nothing I revealed above was intended to discount or malign any such wonderful good that Christianity has adopted and perpetuated, thereafter.
- Upir'
I am not a vampire nor do I know of any. However with seeing this thread and the controversy over opinion would most certainly cause one who claimed to be one to hide in the shadows and to stay quiet.
Assuming that;
* Vampires are stronger, faster, etc than humans
* That they have been hiding in humanity's shadows and/or infiltrating mankind seamlessly...
What would possess them, as a people, to reveal themselves?
I can understand one or two; whiny brats such as Anne Rice's Louie or Lestat, or small groups... but why as a whole? What do they stand to gain in truth...?
Thoughts, anyone?
Akri
*****************
To answer in the spirit of the thread, I cannot for the life of me begin to imagine WHY a Vampire would want to be found out , by anyone or anything.
A wolf revealing himself to a sheep only does so just before that sheep becomes his prey.
"Assuming" of course.
In light of ~Upir's~ delightful post, I would like to permit myself into saying that yes... I am a sympathizer for the race of the "hermit kind" as I like to call them. Since they seem to carry on many wonderful names.
I do not appreciate though, the fact that my words have been contested to garner any sort of proof to follow my convictions regarding my being a sympathizer for ANY race of which had been outcasted by society.
They did nothing wrong back then, they do nothing wrong to this day. And yet they are still being seen under a compass and a defender of their peoples still "stoned" by a mob of miscreants. ~IlLuminaria~, you know now the reason why I defend them soo much. I would appreciate a bit of draw back on your part from your unneeded insults and stick to the thread instead of ranting on as if you as well... Knew something that YOU are not telling us.
I do admit I know more then I let on, but like ~Upir~, I simply refrain from enlightening society from my points of view and facts about historical happenings because in a nutshell, society as finally exampled in this thread... Is still not ready for further information.
SoulShroude,
In the words of Robert Preston's character in "Victor/Victoria": "You just said a cotton-pickin' mouthful."
Regardless the extent of your knowledge, which might indeed be both vast and dead-on accurate... nevertheless, well said.
- Upir'
"A bit more grace would be pleasurable to say the least rather then acknowledging the bantery of a defender."
Cant seem to find or work out how you're allowed to expect more "grace" from people just giving an opinion. It comes as it is, deal with it.
*Chuckles* Lecturing one on how to deal with certain situations when regarding opinions or otherwise stated... When the lecturer seems to be in a torment of their own. The phrase "deal with it." seems to be a negative statement and does not reflect my last post, but gives example of what I was talking about in the first place. Too many anger management issues in society.
Oh, and thankyou ~Theking~ for picking me out of the litter to "complain about" and "bash" for my post. Just proves the point more thoroughly...
All in all "vampires" aren't ready to revelation, because society isn't ready for it ("i would say"). Technology will mature it a bit more in given time.
I wouldn't say technology, I would say "compassion" instead of fear. Conquering fears brings about compassion.
As for your addressing -SS-, I do know something of the sorts, but not care to share, and thus so didn't supply any latentive invitation as you did by assimilating others as- well.. ignorant of the cause. Is just a "speculative" thread since we all know "vampires don't exist"...
Then by all means, based on your convictions of the "cause", do not question, nor lecture me or my convictions according to your own academia relating to such "speculative theories." As well, I will do the same.
Carry on...
If I may recall- I wasn't the one who first attacked not one but all the posters in first instance, for same reason, just to clarifying it, not judging from any standpoint.
As well, if you are going to "act like a child" and carry on with the "blame game"... Please do it within message unless you have something relevant to add to the thread. I add this to the thread to make a point only.
Well.
Maybe because they fall in love with a human or they see thier family and want to tell them.
Maybe because they need humans as food or if people see things as funny or weird then they will be scared.. if you turn something scary into something neat then it isnt scary and more people cling to new fads and new net things.. I mean at first people thought the idea of churchs were scarey and freaky and see how many go to church... tons. It benefits the vampires because if you have so many willing folks to be blood donors then then no one gets scared or hurt.
Simply because of lust.
"When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them, the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and took wives from among those that pleased them. The LORD said, 'My breath shall not abide in man forever, since he too is flesh; let the days allowed him be one hundred and twenty years.' It was then, and later too, that the Nephilim appeared on earth - when the divine beings cohabited with the daughters of men, who bore them offspring. They were the heroes of old, the men of renown." - Genesis 6:1-4
"they took wives unto themselves, and everyone (respectively) chose one woman for himself, and they began to go unto them. And they taught them magical medicine, incantations, the cutting of roots, and taught them (about) plants. And the women became pregnant and gave birth to great giants whose heights were three hundred cubits. These (giants) consumed the produce of all the people until the people detested feeding them. So the giants turned against (the people) in order to eat them." - 1 Enoch 7:1-5
In fiction, vampires are drama queens and all the action in the story flows from that, even if they're trying to be stealthy another character whips back the curtain with an, "Aha!"
In rl, it's never made sense to me for vampire societies to be identified as such, making a great pretense of secrecy, yet saying "Vampire!" accompanied by a not quite subliminal drum roll. So we're back to drama, and a certain amount of arrogance.
Much better to form small societies dedicated to fostering good health among humans and call themselves something neutral like "nutritionist."
I have to say i must give my thumbs up to Upir for making such great and extented posts. I can see people's point of view when it comes to this topic on both sides of the coin here.
There are those here that are saying (without telling too much) that they DO in fact know something more but don't wish to reveal and then there are those that attack it because it comes off as if things are just being said so that we have sympathizers without anything being presented to us as proof that what we are enlightening others of as pure fact?
What we have here are stories held through time but yet i believe Illum is merely trying to point out that if one is to make such claims of beings existing and coming out so defensively about it, should indeed give them a reason to believe what you are putting out there as true. Is that about right? lol
Well understood, it seems i would have to lower the phrasing for certain members that do not assimilate their own statements, yet all in all; you are right -Sorvena- everyone has a different perspective of the "vampire" some in regards of fabula, others "theories", others "knowledge" nobody has an authentic overview of it in here, for some what you deem "factible" could be BS and in case counterproductive to the aspirations of this thread.
For a vampire to come right out and admit to their own unique existence, is to condemn themself in today's society. On one hand you have the posers and wannabes who would idolise said vampire, but on the other, the majority of people would be skeptical, judgemental and pessimistic about their proclamation. So my answer would be, for a group of vampires or for all vampires to come out as a whole to be acknowledged, it would be rather difficult to gain the belief of others, and therefore a futile effort. So I would vouch they probably would prefer to live their lives rather than waste their time.
I tend to disagree... it is my understanding that a large group of vampires... monsters... demons... or simply non-humans, would invoke such a fear that mankind as a whole would react with hostility. Military. Riots. Effective racisism. If you doubt this take a look at how humanity has always dealt with perceived threats... look at the animals that have been hunted down to extinction, look at the different groupings of people that have suffered for looking different, or for believing different things; coloured people, Jews... and they were simply human, a limited threat by comparison
I tend to agree with the hiding in plain sight theories. I believe the mankind as a whole would go totally bezerk. They would be hunted down, and the military would no doubt use them in conducting biological experiementation on them. Anyways, the bad side of this would be endless so they being a superior race, have deemed it necessary to mingle so to speak with man.
And so we're saying that there's absolutely zero possibility that people who claim to be more than human doesn't fight alongside of humanity during these wars? If i recall most stories human and otherwise talk about battles. Arch-angels such as Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer, etc etc were known for battling spiritual wars? So i don't think we should place blame on humanity exactly for all causes of violence if those stories are true that is. All forms of violence have a root and generally yes, it is part of us all. Some are more hostile than others granted but not ALL of humanity is out to GETCHA. There are those that are more neutral and understanding and trustworthy.....you just have to figure out who those people are.
It would indeed be just like humans to justify inhumane behavior on beings of power. To recall one example just how many wars have been fought, people's killed in the name of a God...?
This thread is a bit intimidating.
"Why would vampires, as a people/race/community reveal their existence to mankind?"
They wouldn't.
Mm well i can't say that i'm enjoying the humanity slaying of this thread either. I really don't appreciate people who claim to be 'something' else would place blame on every single human for being violent. Animals, human or otherwise has violent tendancies for power, survival or whatever. Doesn't matter what you are. If they don't come out of hiding then what is the point of this thread being discussed? To justify a right that has been wronged? Well i would say that goes for a lot of us human or not.
Man has chosen to pick labels for things they don't understand and have built up in society a whole list of superstitions about the vampire. I don't like that word personally. Why would they come forward? The only reason some are now is because they felt in this day and age they should be able to but all it has done is make others make fun of them. Some of them are from the more fringe fashion sector. Would you like to be spread all over the media because you were different or believed not to exist because you didn't live up to the stereotype that was perceived? Man has a history of persecution and ridicule for things they don't accept or feel is evil in society. Even now still in the south just pertaining to race people are having problems with that let alone something or someone they can't even fathom or believe to exist. Why would anyone want to come forward, given the track record of man and the ill treatment of anything that seems different. We're talking about hate crimes here. People who would be in fear if they believed it was fact. It simply isn't worth the trouble quite frankly.
Perhaps because more people are now willing to accept them and they no longer have to linger in darkness and seclusion in order to survive. Viva La Vampire!
I would think they would not reveal themselves if they were vampiric, for simple rule is they would be ginny pigs for the so called scientists. much like mentalists were in world war 2.
Simply put...it would never happen. I don't care what Charlaine Harris says :)
MONEY>>>>SIMPLE AS>>>>MONEY !
I could make alot of money...
One book and two interviews all cancelled.
The Star said No!
So annoying doh!...but it is tempting. TFS.
Oh...and of course Donors...you cant hide it...
I tried and failed, so I keep on the move...
vampires never did reveal themselves humanity did out of fear
In my mind after seeing this that ppl still want to blend myth and fact toghter, that being said it does not supprise me that thoes of the blood keep quiet and don't bradcast to ppl what they are
That is it though. They won't. There are certain rules that must be followed, and for every rule disobeyed that are severe consequences.
I think It would be a bad idea. Sooner or later we would end up as 3 class citizens. Then persecution if any thing happened publicly. Then we would end up in camps and then have to be registered and tracked. Then finally exterminated because of fear and persecution,
Reminds us of the way the Native American's were and still are being treated, does it not ~Aranoch~?
Another excellent point by SoulShroude... and so very far reaching.
The Native Americans (many of them, that is) valued the Earth and all therein, including each other. They valued the inherent dignity all possess, the violation or denial of which was both unthinkable and inconceivable.
Possessions were largely unimportant in most Native American cultures if not an almost foreign concept. Thus, greed, avarice, covetousness, and property crimes were almost unheard of. Hence their shock and dismay at encountering the "White Man" who, with little to no regard for the inherent dignity of life, of character, of morality, would so amorally lie, cheat, steal, and murder to get the possessions they coveted.
The Native Americans also largely considered themselves as creations within the greater Creation rather than as the owners and "gods" over all they beheld, as so often the "White Man" thought and acted.
This was not at all dissimilar to the situation encountered by the Rephaimite bloodline, the historical "vampires," when confronted by the Christianized interlopers who began settling Eastern Europe during the 1st Millenium CE.
A most insightful and erudite observation, SoulShroude.
- Upir'
So, basically we are somewhat saying that if vampires became publicly known, it would be similar to the situation in the movie "The Breed".. unless I am mistaken?
Ok so if vampires "turned themselves in" so to speak, it would just provoke violence. Humans are not exactly capable of immediate acceptance. You've got religious Christians who would go around screaming about how they're "spawns of satan" and protesting just like they do about Gay marriage now. And then you'd have a Hitler-like politician claiming that they need to be destroyed because they are bringing problems to the earth. In all of that, people would include the fact that they're "murderers". I mean seriously...people kill people all the time and they don't say anything about very often. There are thousands of soldiers dying for their country and the media doesn't tell it like it is because the country is in denial. And so...after all the accusations would come trial where people would make up a bunch of crap. Soon enough you've got like the Salem Witch Trials and the Holocaust all wrapped up in one with innocent beings dying. Of course someone would disagree saying again that vampires are "murderers". Well I'd say get over it...it's the food chain. You don't see animals rioting when we eat their families.
~Trikki~ observes: "So, basically we are somewhat saying that if vampires became publicly known, it would be similar to the situation in the movie "The Breed".. unless I am mistaken?"
I respond: Very nice assumption there ~Trikki~, the movie was a fantastic piece of work if I do say so myself, even if it was b-rated, Adrian Paul (Highlander the series)played well in it.
Movie synopsis is as follows:
The Breed is an interesting take on Vampires as being genetic mutations that are able to transform 80% of the humans (20% being immune). The setting is some form of alt. universe in the near future where Nazi Germany happened, but apparently Socialism/Communism is now the form of Government.
The Vampires have contacted the government and desire to establish normal relations as a different race, Jews, Blacks, Indians are mentioned here and the mistreatment by others as a fear. Both sides, humans and vampires, have plans which are going at the same time to wipe out the other.

Those who "are" all ready know.
Every society has it's secrets. some worth keeping, other not.
Why hide a reality if in fact it exists along side any other? Is there some shame in 'being' one thing or another?
One would have to simply make a choice to either been known or unknown. And being known to your own Kind is something that can't be hidden.
Oh, and like so many others have either directly said or implied: Thank you to all those wonderful authors and Hollywood for their assistance in keeping a secret hidden in plain sight.
It's never a good idea to spook the masses.
They are usually not understanding of things they don't understand.
Vampires are smarter than that. Just look what happened to the witches throughout history.
Ok...so I can't exactly answer this the way I'd like to due to certain regulations and all with my group, but vampires are not to come out and verbally say that they are a vampire. Yes, there are things that may give them away if you study them close enough, but those things that can do it aren't always seen by the human eye...or at least not right away. As for the daytime agenda from the story books and all, not all vampires have to avoid sunlight. It more or less depends on the type of vampire that you are. There are various types of vampires, and I will see if I can or cannot post that information here, and if I can I will, but each type have things that you can do and things you can't do...and one group has issues with going out in the sun, whereas others just drain blood and/or energy.
Society as a whole cannot accept something in which they do not understand or fear. As Upir stated the slaughter of such people has occurred and still does to this day..whether it be religious beliefs or because someone is deemed as different. It is ignorance of society and the need to feel dominant that causes this, so yes I can see why a vampire would not reveal themself.
I think it is the need to fit in and not be forgotten about or lost in the crowd. We a cautious of those we discuss our lives with that is why we consider ourselves kindred or beloveds.
I don't think they would. Those who claim to be vampires are most likely either taking role play too far or they're crazy.
So then Someone who has live their live as a sanguine associates with other that live as sanguine were what was it you you said crazy or role players. I've been around 40 years before there was pole playing I have live my life style and shared in many others live that choose to live our live the way we do. None of use proclaim superpowers some of us are adept as either pre or post cognitive and empathic along with 30% of the general public that have proven extra sensory skills. So Rather than makinging an ignorant broad based statement do a little research first. That way people don't become offended or upset. Because you never know who lives in our society cops, lawyer, your boss so some opinions are best kept to ones self without empirical evidence
I do not believe that vampires WOULD indeed reveal themselves to humanity... Humans can be vile and cruel and almost never understanding. Society is not ready to accept a new race without bringing a lot pain to the race that is introduced. Humans do not always have as much compassion as others like to think.
very good question.
they would not usually reveal themselves...
i believe that the human race is not understanding enough to even comprehend introducing another species.
but i do believe those who are and do reveal themselves are looking for something...
Considering that in another thread entitled "Chupacabra", the poor animal was killed by the locals. For what? Killing its food? It had to live on something people... come on!
Humans can't even coexhist rationally with other humans due to ridiculous infractions of indifferences.
It would strike fear in them first and then the hunt would be on, once again to destroy a species superior to that of it's ownself.
They would probably only tell one person out of lonliness or in hopes of changing a human to be one of them. But they wouldnt tell a whole group of people because they can not handle it and just freak.
Doru
That book every once in awhile has something true in it. I hate that. :( Nice post, very astute....
~Aranoch~ I actually have a bit of respect for some of those "bloodletters." At least they have the balls to drink and be merry. Rather then being a show off roleplayer who might think blood is disgusting and therefore claim the term "psi."
I agree that vampyres would not expose themselves with the way humans are. There is not really much humanity when it comes to the human race discovering new things. I would go with the old saying "eat or be eatin" mankind would be to scared of becmng inferior beings based on the things (Supposed truths) that books and myth state, that they are stronger faster etc. Therefore not even giving vampyres a chance but automatically killing anyone who could prove they were in fact vampyres. Every race has basic survival instincts, and if vampyres really are immortal why chance the survival of your family an race just becase you were bored with having to hide or for any reason really?
Yeah there are to many myths that the Catholic church came up with mankind would be terrified and be out on a "witch hunt" for them. Why cause ciaos when its not really needed
People fear things they do not truly understand. Humans are panicky creatures capable of more violence than the vampire could ever do. The vampire in theory feeds to survive. Humans as a rule do harm to all life including themselves, killing and maiming just for the sake of doing it. Justifying this nature in the name of religion , land or political views.
The majority of the human race dismisses the idea of Vampires as fiction. So if they were to come to light , some may react in a not so positive way , which in my opinion would not be conducive to the Vampires survival.
So I ask , who then would be considered the real monster?
I have the answer to that one....we are the monster in this world. But we can also be the ones to fix it if we just stop and take a look at what we are doing
Upir, do you have a proof that the etymology of the word "upir" is feasting and it`s origins refers at sexual feasting?
Of course, more proofs would be better then one.
Thank you!! All that you say sounds interesting!
