The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Now...there are a lot of twilight fans. You where cute at first, drooling over Edward and such..But its going a little far...Let me explain.

I play online games such as WOW. But I've always thought to myself "As soon as they bring out a MMORPG that centres around bloodspilling, hate avenging vampires, I'm on that boat."

They are currently making a Twilight MMORPG. I.Am.Gutted.
Considering that MMORPG's are centered around killing things, why the hell are they basing it on these books? they are "Good" vampires. They go out in the sun, only drink animal blood and get broody when they cant have there way - Why the hell would you want to play THAT?!?!

Is this a step to far? Is this what the vampire is to be waterd down to? A GAME FOR GOD'S SAKE! are the books and movie(s) not enough!
WHEN this game fails, the market for a proper Vampire/Werewolf MMORPG will diminish because of lack of interest.

I now officially hate Twilight.

TRYING to bank on a trend. I cannot imagen what there would be to do on that game. Apparently, you run around forks. There going to spend cash making this game and when they find out there audience are not willing to pay for a game that is severely limited in its story, it will shut down and never will there be a proper vampire MMORPG.

I do not care otherwise...gaming is just as bad as the latest fad to come along.Too many people waste their time and hours of productive life playing meaningless games.Yes you can play all you like but there are more things in the world more important then what level you can reach in a short amount of time.Twilight is for teen girls more then anything yet women in their 20's and 30's drool over it more.

Okay, I'm a fan of not only Twilight, but I like MMORPG's as well...but this game even sounds stupid to ME...

The books, I ignored some of the things she did not get right about actual vampires, and I respected the fact that is was probably just her overly-active imagination...no matter how belittling it was...(vampires do NOT sparkle...the sun irritates and makes me itch...and it even burns me if I'm in it directly for five minutes...)

...but to make a game about it...what would the purpose be? I understand...Twilight...new trend, everyone's buying...bla bla bla. I have come to realize though, that most girlie girls that are drooling over Edward (sorry if I am stereotyping any of you Edward stalkers out there....I don't stalk...I just like the books) those girls, at least the ones I have met, are not that interested in playing RPG games anyway....some don't even know what RPG stands for...

It just comes down to plain old commercialism. Anything to make a buck...

Twilight isn't my cup of tea. I don't really know too much about it to be honest...nothing has inspired me to go there. However taste is taste.

I agree. My comment is strange and its hard to explain what i mean when i'm only half sure myself. People who play Online games such as WOW take a certain degree of seriousness about it. (Of course, there some that really do play them for the fun, no problem with that)
But the amount of time and effort it takes to build, design, maintain and keep your auidence engaged within these games is a uphill struggle.
Making twilight into a MMORPG game is like saying
"This is easily done"
If you have read the twilight books then you'll see that it isnt game quaility at all. And it just fracks me off that there going to be having sparckly shiny "vampires" MOCKING the gaming industry.

I am not so sure this *is* a step too far...people mention "cashing in on the fad" however upon observing the obsessive nature of the fan base, I would say "next logical step".

This is a matter of taste I am afraid. Lots of things on the market offend my taste, CONSIDERABLY.

Games are a business. Business exists to make a profit. Games are created and marketed to make money.

I agree 1024 and if their was not a fan base then they would not have a market for it. If you are not interested in that game then don't play it. If I was offended by various things that was offered on the web I would quite simply not go to those sites.

Let's list a few franchises that have gone TOO far.

#1: As if paying for a concert ticket that is AS MUCH as a house mortgage for Hannah Montana wasn't enough, there's clothes, lip gloss, perfume, etc.

#2: Jonas Brothers.

#3: High School Musical.

#4: Harry Potter.

#5: Twilight.

And all these things have video games, and web rpg's, even myspace apps are being created. So DON'T be surprised when something ABSURD gets enough attention to ruin good things or makes you wish to be deaf and blind.

I wouldnt take it personally, I mean after all it is media sensationalism at its best. Twilight was only a huge hit with the "kiddies" because of its advertisements. You dont think the producers did that because they knew the movie may have bunked to the bottom of the ladder did you?

MMORPG's are quite popular amongst most of society... I dont touch them myself, but I know plenty of others that think "WOW" is the "BESTEST GAME EVERS!" I can see why they would want to make a game out of the franchise, because the producers could in fact make more "money" off of the series of books. Since that is all they intended and want... It is all about the "money."

It is no worse then what other movies have done in the past, save for that the movie: Twilight is the new "hit" for the kiddies to go see, and therefore keep their attention. We had Underworld with a war between "lycan" and what not... Why not pay for the advertising for your own book. Charleene Harris did it for True Blood. HBO picked that one up in a heart beat.

As long as money is involved I am sure any type of movie whether it be vampire related or not, more merchandise that naive fans will buy, the greater the stock margins for the money makers will sore.

It's because people are stupid and they want to market something that people are going to like. More people will like it because it's about killing things, regardless or not of whether it's true to the original story. Why would anyone (except perhaps teenage girls) want to play a game about nice vampires?

It sounds stupid to me, but to each his own. I don't think its taking it any farther than it has already gone. You can buy Edward sparkley powder in a vial so you can be just like him.

The good news is there are only 4 books so give it another 3 years or so and the mass marketing frenzy should settle down.

All twilight has done is diminish those that chose to live the lifestyle and belittled historical figures, folklore and histories.
Commercialism isn't the worst of it crimes it has made a mockery of something people believe and the way they live. They turned it into a joke.

In my mind ppl will do whatever to make money and they dont care who they hurt. The same thing could be said in the case of michael jackson's death again if it sells who cares if it hurts someone? The thing about mass market is they are out to make a buck in any way they can bottom line.

I also don't see how the commercialization of vampires hurts anyone. These things always go in cycles. The popularity of vampires ebbs and flows & I don't fault anyone for trying to make a buck on it. People like vampires. They will buy it.

Vampires have always been appealing on that level. Remember the Munsters? The Lost Boys? Count Chocula? There was even an episode of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan thought he was bitten by a vampire.

I can think of dozens of other examples where vampire mythology has been embellished for commercial reasons. Sure, it gets overdone & it becomes tiresome. I don't see how it hurts anyone.

for the record, I don't mean to imply that I support or encourage the exploitation of Michael Jackson's death. Sure, it was newsworthy but not deserving of the 24-hour constant news updates and public outcry about our collective cultural loss. Just before his death, his records were selling poorly and ticket sales for his concert tour were not meeting expectations. Ironically, his death was the best thing for record sales and memorabilia.

I also don't mean to suggest that I'm thrilled with the popularity of all things vampirey. I've always liked vampires and now I feel like it's a fad. The success of Twilight and True Blood is bringing thousands (if not millions) of new fans into the genre, much like The Lost Boys and Salem's Lot before them. Sometimes this a good thing. Fresh perspectives, new blood, and all that.

Those who are into it solely because it's fashionable or popular will eventually lose interest and drift off to whatever the next fad is, like a moth to flame. But the rest will find it appealing for the same reasons we do. They deserve our company.

I think they'd have a lot of customers with that idea. Why would it be too far? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean someone else might not like it. I think a lot of fans would enjoy it and it's no skin off my back knowing that there would be happy people. It doesn't hurt me, make me angry, or anything like that.

It has always amazed me when people get bothered because a group of people like something that they don't. It's personal taste. Be happy we're allowed to pick and choose.

Great to everyone who loved Twilight, but I am very tired of seeing too much Cullen, Cullen, Cullen BS on here.
They weren't the first, and they defiantly won't be the last.

No..creating a game that one or even a few do not like because they don't like them is not going too far.

Going too far is the pharmaceutical companies making medicines that cost so much that the elderly cannot afford their meds on the lousy social security they get.

Going too far is when animals have more rights than humans.

Going too far is having homeless people living on the streets while the rich gets to live in their oversized houses.

Going too far is the government taxing the hell out of the poor working class while the corporate heads gets tax breaks.

So to me a game that you don't like is not going too far in my opinion.

I personally want that sparkly stuff on the market...(although I still submit that I have seen not much evidence of sparkles)...hm, perhaps some french cosmetic company can do it? Probably not, but I just love french cosmetics.

I've read the Twilight books (not stating my opinions of them here as thats not what the discussion's about!), and I'm also a WOW gamer. The WOW environment is made especially for the game and therefore can have unlimited playability and expansion; how would this work with a Twilight MMORPG where the environment is relatively fixed by the writer and books? I've nothing against the idea of a Twilight game, but I honestly can't see how it would translate into a MMORPG without either offering poor lifespan (and therefore low value for money) or adding on so much new stuff that it detracts from the original storylines and therefore ruins it for the fans...

I am not seeing why it's too far, maybe because I am not a fan of either, it's not a dislike, it's just I don't care much.

Something that would go too far, is behavior, as in really killing people for the sake of believing you're really a vampire or that Edward Mc.Cullen is really going to marry you, because you're a teen with lots of black make-up and numerous Twilight posters in your room.

May be is a step too far, but, I have to bring the economy situation of the world into play. Everybody want money. Money is the cure to all "illness". So, if they think that the project will work, excellent for them. If the fan of vampire want a game and they are wiling to spend some money on it, everybody will benefit from this experience.

Do you realize how many people hate World of Warcraft? They say gamers go 'a step too far' with that far more than this Twilight phenom. You don't appreciate people calling you stupid and wasting your time on something you like, do you? And hasn't Blizzard gone a little too far with all the expansions, WoW keyboards, mouses, apparel, stickers, action figures, a movie in the works, not to mention the new Mountain Dew WoW game fuel soda. A little too far is subjective when it comes to your own tastes though- isn't it?

We're not robots, we like what we like due to personal tastes. A step too far would involve forcing people to do what they don't want to do. I dig choice, if you don't... wrong species, and in most cases, wrong planet for you.

Example:

You have a spread of different flavored ice creams, you love chocolate while someone else likes strawberry. Later, they add real strawberries to their ice cream. You think they are even stupider. A few weeks later, they add strawberry syrup to the strawberry ice cream with strawberry bits. You're hot under the collar. Even later, the strawberry ice cream with strawberry syrup, and strawberry bits gets- strawberry sprinkles. You're now fuming. How in the hell can these people like something you don't? Because we're human. Each your chocolate and leave them alone. You wouldn't appreciate a gang on you ready to slap that chocolate cone out of your hand.

It's successful because there is a market for it. The companies aren't the only ones 'profiting', people profit by receiving a product they want. It's a win/win. Who's anyone to tell them their wants aren't valid? People that wouldn't like others telling them the same, that's who.

You're 'they wanted more' doesn't jive... there is always another group of 'they' who wants more of something else. Freedom of choice.

Role playing vampire games are nothing new. Vampire: The Masquerade, Vampire: The Requiem, and their accompanying video games 'Bloodlines' and others have been doing it successfully for years- with such avid players that are huge names in the vampire community.

Yeah the whole twilight deal has gone insane.

I started to read the books before they became all popular and I didn't think they were that amazing. For me it was like a romance novel something I could read but didn't have to think about.

The only thing I really enjoyed about the movie was the look of it, how it looked like shows that I watched growing up in the nineties. It looked cheesy, and teenage.

Even two of my best friends jump and squeal when they see an advertisement on the Television for the second one...I don't really understand it but I guess it does something for other people.

But we aren't talking about other gaming platforms, are we now?

They want, they CRAVE for people to love it just AS WELL as hate it.

People who love the genre/story will buy it, those who hate it, will fuel those that love it to buy it.
