For many years the Vampire Community has been trying to educate, dispel missconcepions and myths and reveal the truths and facts and we still have issues like the above to overcome. SIGHS.
Here is a link that I found...
NATIONAL VAMPIRE AWARENESS DAY
Just curious as to what others think of this???
I think society is taking the concept of the vampire a bit too far. This is sounding something like a Trueblood: Blood Copy advert.
Who will present what it is to be a "vampire"?
I find that those who profess to be vampires, are seldomly aware of what "makes them vampires".
Dispel myths?
Thank you ~Dab~, I could not have said it better, myself.
Even if it's real, it's of no real use, because barely anyone is going to do anything on that particular day to spread awareness anyway.
Kind of like rectal cancer awareness day.
Society does not care about awareness for anything, so there is really no need for promotional advertising. Hell, the only thing society seems to care about these days is what the media tells them, or magnetic ribbons of differant colors for their cars that are charity based.
I like all the special celebratory days, and think VR should have a calendar reminder for them. Vampire's Day is a great idea and means so much more to me than same old same old Valentine's Day. And Don't poo poo rectal awareness day. Any excuse for celebrating is worthwhile and on that day one could experiment with metamucil, or get a colon cleanse with a friend.
I think it's kind of neat. There is nothing wrong with a V-Day.
Rather hasty to make an attempt at parody of valintines day, into Vampire awareness day. The link has no mention of vampire awareness.
Society in general will not accept those who claim to be Vampyres. They tend to judge not only that person but the Vampre Community even worse than before.
Of course they won't. With that spelling, society tends to laugh at those who do use it. Since it is an old english style and adapted from other stereotypical counter-parts.
Hell, I wouldn't take anyone seriously in the VC if they spelled anything with a "y" unless it was ment to be spelled as such. As it may get confused with other terms used for roleplay.
I am sure the VC would have a field day with the vampire awareness and grammar.
I think it sounds very silly. In fourteen years the author of the link has a list of forty- six people who celebrate it.
It doesn't seem to be raising much awareness.
vvSoulshroudevv, Oh I do agree, hence the SIGHS in my original post. Do you realise that this is going through pretty much almost every vampyric yahoogroup??? *GEESH*
dabbler, if you look at the base of that page, the site I gave the link for, you'll see a list of names... maybe one of those will? ROFLMAO...
PandoraZel, vvSoulshroudevv, agreed!
Bloodmother, forgive my boldness here, but surely real vampyres wouldn't need a celebratory day. Don't they do that everytime they feed????
Tzaddi, it'll only become commercial, just like any other holiday, yes?
dabbler, again agrees.
Mischka, possibly.
vvSoulshroudevv, agrees again. LOL.
danzig1330, nope not at all. Quite correct. But still thought it an amusing thread to create. ROFLMAO.
We have a day for everything it seems. I guess that would only lead to a Lycan Awareness Day, or any other person's labeling themselves anything but human Awareness Day.
"Do you realise that this is going through pretty much almost every vampyric yahoogroup???"
Which is why the RPers are responding to it, they are spelling their crap with a y. All Y'ers support anything remotely vamp. Hell, New Moon may be next with its "Sparkly" crap.
Lycan awareness day? When will the roleplayers learn...
Bloodmother said don't poo poo rectal awareness day. lol.
I agree that any excuse to celebrate is good. Lycans? Yay!
I can't read vampyre spelled with a "y" w/o thinking of Buffy and how one of the characters on the show pronounced it, distinguishing between vampires and vampyres by pronouncing the latter "Vam-pyers."
I am sorry, but the idea...I can understand why some would want this day...but it sounds as if people want other's to be aware they are a vampire.
Some people are just beginning to understand Wicca, Rekki, and other ways with a open mind.
I guess bites or blood would be the gift for this day!!!!
hmmm. . .a day for supposed blood drinkers to make people aware they want there blood. . .sounds counter productive for a "real" vampyre. . .
again with the spelling variation bashing...vampire and vampyre both entered the english language together. . one use just became more popular to use...
Maybe it's all just a ploy to filter our the RP's to the RL's???
We already have halloween, and quite frankly is cool as it is.
Were it not for the 1995 beginning date I would have thought it was one more Twilight promotional idea.
Just the general discussion of such idiocy truly surprises me. What a waste of time and energy. Some fool attempts to make a lame association then hopes it will catch on?? Why would any self respecting "Vampire" who takes pride in what they are participate in such nonsense? The only benefit it could possible have is to weed out the sheeple that would actually participate. *smiles*
One could hand out Suckers.. on Vamp Day.. get it.. Suckers.. For Suckers..
Such a bad pun dabbler makes it almost funny. I regret I didn't think of it first.
There are certainly ideas more stupid than a Vampire Appreciation Day though it is hard at the moment to think of what it would be.
Ahhh, more puns, I love it.
As a minority, hate crimes against vampires could be considered a capital offense.
I myself would not celebrate ityet, I do not celebrate many holidays cause to me they are just another day to me. But, hey if they wanna go celebrate then more power to them.
Hell we have a hard enough time to have people celbrate and become aware of many cancers which is a real live thing, so you go.. (whoever celebrates it)..
who in their rite minds would think of something like that? who??
I think you just made your point. Nobody in their right mind would.
A bored Goth.. one that perticularly dispised Valintinews day. Thats my guess..
that is good Dabbler .. I like valentines day .. yet I do not see why Vampires should have a day to celebrate the Witches and goblins don't so how is that even fair.. I ask? ;p
Ok here is for those who did not go to the link.. *shakes head* why is this even there.??
Ever been alone on Feb. 14th, and everyone around you was paired up? Did your friends make you feel left out? Or have you ever felt bad when you had some one and no one else did? Well this new holiday has been created for everyone. Now everyone can celebrate.
Vampire's Day
Reason why you should celebrate Vampire Day.
1. It's not just for lovers, but all emotions of the Heart. (See Examples Below)
2. It's a holiday for romance. -who would not rather have a romantic evening then a stuffed bear
3. The other V-day is primarily for women. Vampires are for everyone. It's easier to find something for a Male on Vampire's day.
4. A single red rose is acceptable for a Vampire's day gift. Actually it's the common gift, instead of a card.
5. Vampires come from all nationalities and races. Instead of the one St. Valentine of the Christian Religion.
6. One of the best Holidays is Halloween, think of this holiday as being close to Halloween. Because dressing in black like a vampire is more fun.
The Simularities are already there.
1. The holiday already starts with a V, and can shortened to V-day.
2. Hearts and the color red are common items to a vampire.
3. Lace is worn by many a vampire. Velvet usually worn with the lace.
4. Candle light dinners, and red roses. But No Sappy Stuff.
Examples of Emotions for Vampire's Day.
1. Hatred is a fun one for Vampire's Day. Why should we just send cards just to those we love, we need a holiday where we can send a dead rose to someone we hate.
2. Friendship is grand, because you can hang out with your friends with out feeling like your alone. See your going out celebrating your friendship, and not because you don't have a love/lover.
3. If there is Sadness in your soul, sitting in a grave yard is perfectly allowable.
The History of Vampire's Day.
It was started in 1995 when one night several college students got sick of all the talk about Valentine's day. It seemed that everyone had someone they where with or loved but this group of students. They decided then that Valentine's day was a segratory holiday. You had to have a love/lover to celebrate the holiday, and they/we decided it was unfair. So we created a holiday for everyone.
We wanted a holiday that was fun like Halloween, but still based off of abit of romance. Now these students have taken Vampires to be that new holiday symbol. A symbol of romance, and dark elegance, that can be ever changing. To warn of the danger of love, and celebrate unlife/life for those of use alone. Women can take the men out just as easily, and friends are celebrated as the blood that feeds us.
We already have a V-Day it is victory day from the world war, etc so why would you even put that up or say it is beyound me yet, hey I am just a human..
This is not Vampire Awerness Day.
It is a Day For Mopers.
Now would "HLV" Lobby for Vampire Pride Day?
Or how About getting Biology Text books to teach vampirism.
hmmm. . .yeah. . .some guys that didnt have gfs created that in (95 ?) someone said..? . . .just by the opening paragraph makes it seem like their "V-day" would be "look at me, nobody wants me day"...and was an idea they came up with after probably watching Interview with the Vampire on video. .came out it 94, was probably on video by the time they wrote that
I just saw on my calendar here at work that September 19th is talk like a pirate day. Perhaps February 19th could be dress like a vampire day. That way no one is trying to steal Valentine's Day and vamps the world over can have a special day to themselves.
Then we will have unicorn, dragons, goblins, pegasus and all mythological beings awareness holiday and we could never work again 'cause we would be in a surrealistic fetishism in our fabula reality everyday, where we get aware of new beings awakening inside our'not-so-sane'selves. Like really...halloween mixes all, lets not start segregating mythological races/beings by days; or I'll start hunting vampires for racist purposes.
We won't make them National Holidays. That way we still have to work. They will have to be like St. Patrick's Day. Go work then party later.
Ehh..hehe I was playing, please don't take me serious.
if you were a big billion dollar company marketing products you could get these days...lol.
there all just ways for the companies that make cards, candies, a stuffed toys etc. . to get money. . .lol
I was joking as well. Just wanted to see who I could get to think I had a good idea.
The database has thousands upon thousands of entries, New Moon just had the third largest opening of all time. I believe no National Vampire Awareness Day is needed. People are aware. People in the lifestyle should live their life and not worry about society.
Someone stop this thread before there is a Twilight Awareness Day!!
What a great idea, "Twilight Awareness Day," a day we can all shine.
yes, that's all we need.
Because somewhere, somewhere, there's a teenager out there who somehow hasn't HEARD of Twilight yet.
The guy that played Edward, actually had girls pass-out, when he arrived at appearances.
A feat associated with both Elvis, and the Beatles.
That reminds me of that Lestat saying: "So I went to sleep, hoping that the sounds of the passing eras would fade out, and a sort of death might happen. But as I lay there, the world didn't sound like the place I had left, but something different. Better. It became worthwhile to rise again as new gods were born and worshipped. Night and day, they were never alone. I would become one of them."
I hate the Media style bandwagons but this is tempred by an equal hatred of Valentines day.
In order to bring balance I would favour an alternative for the 14th...no doubt the media will love it...Barfs.TFS.
Ah - what the hell.
Once 'Vampire Awareness' gets a kickstart, then we can have a Food Network star, who'd specialize in various blood dishes; a vampire soccer mom league; Dancing with the Vampire Stars.
Whoopee!
It'll be a "Hallmark holiday"
4 all government & financial institutions will stay open
yet blood banks will be closed...& heavily guarded 2
wowo this is crzy .. it is bad enough that over the years holidays have been downsized now people want a vampire day etc. ROLMAOL!!! nuts and I do not take any of this seriously as to celebrating a vampire or any mystical creature/person day..
I mean ok lets all where one color outfits and be peaceful, yeah, like that will happen.. LOL
Just an FYI for everyone... the link listed in this thread is for "Vampire Day" not "National Vampire Awareness Day" that already technically exists and is sponsored by BEST BUY. Read all about it here
However to date there is still not a "National Twilight Awareness Day" : )
I think it's essentially a good idea for a holiday for everyone.
But it's not really based on fact or history.
So It shouldn't really be associated with vampires.
Well it happens with all not only with vampyres... reality .....people believe what others say.... they dont bother to know by themselves so this way it's impossible people learn anything.
