Many things we practice have rituals. in your life style, faith so on and so forth.
Do you have ritual dinners or foods, and what is the significance of them?
Its become tradition and somewhat ritualto have Corn Casserole on thanksgiving on my mothers side of the family.
A ritual I have is to eat my late brothers favorite meal on the anniversary of his death, then get blitzed on his choice of liquor afterwards.
I don't know if I'd call it a ritual dinner but it's a common belief around the southern US for black eyed peas to be eaten on New Years to bring good luck in the coming year.
Not sure its dinner, how about a draught from a birch tree...the original Ent draught.
tap the tree in spring Apr/May/June and the rising sap provides a refreshing sap that can be drip collected in any container angled beneath a hole drilled two foot up the trunk.
Use any 8 inch metal/wood pole into the trunks breach.
Best to collect then freeze into ice cubes excellent with pimms, gin or whisky.
Only tap the tree for a few days then seal the hole to prevent damage..Enjoy.
Rituals were established to create and install values. Saying a prayer or grace before a meal is one such ritual..Lighting a candle or putting flowers on the table even the background music can for the people who are eating, make the occasion appear more special.
This is because the celebration or thanks is not just for the food on the table, but also because of the togetherness, the love and thanks for all things around us.
It's a tradition to have a ritual dinner when moving into a new house in Indonesia. You have to have 7 different dishes and yellow rice to keep the good spirits happy and remove the bad ones.
when we move into a new place we give the the gnomes and fairies cake and whiskey
our ritual dinner for birthdays is sourkruat, blood suasages , beer, reall mac and cheese home made
My Ritual for birthday is cake and lots of it...hmm chocolate yum!
Nightgame, i'm in the Southern US and there is no black eyed peas at the New Years Party that I attend and there never has been.
There are several foods that are always game that have become ritual.
For instance, when at my brothers house my sis in law makes deviled eggs.
i just eat what ever i feel like eatting for all my meals so no riual dinner for me at all
black eyed peas for new years (for good luck), and ham for yule (to celebrate the birthday of Freyr).

Once chosen to become a member of House Lyblac we all have a dinner of a fine barley porridge with berries, exotic meats, and we each place blood in a goblet of absinthe and each take a drink to seal our bond with each other. (Each member's blood is tested first and every six months thereafter).
Many religions have ritual dinners... Common ones are Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish... where they often chant and prey before meals.... many of the events listed above are not ritulas... but instead traditions. There may be a food you eat but unless there is actually religious significance to each dish it's only a tradition.
Birthday cake on your birthday is simply tradition.
Thanksgiving dinner on thanksgiving is only tradition.
Having a meal on a loved ones death is again, only tradition.
The difference is tradition is something that you do out of remembrance or to symbolize an important event, while Rituals are a religious based and every dish and everything that you do throughout the dinner has some sort of spiritual effect... Like bring forth good spirits; Casting away bad ones; calling on protection; and so on.
A common mistake that if there is prayer before a meal, it makes it a ritual... that's not true... Only that prayer is the ritual.
Hmmm.....rituals?
I drink martinis with a Sushi dinner, the vodka compliments raw fish for some reason.
:)
I eat lots of grain food, like bread and cakes to celebrate the Pagan harvest festival called Lammas. It's to celebrate and say thanks to the god and goddess for the growth of the crops.
Lol, Alek.. I don't even get a cake for my birthday. :( I don't like to celebrate it, LOL, so people have given up asking me what sort of food I'd like for a potential party. ;P
Honestly, I don't really have any 'special food' I use in a ritualistic sense. I don't celebrate the holidays, I don't fraternize with other Pagans in person.
I'm more of a solitary Ceremonialist, so unless you count the traditional blood of a fresh, young virgin, I don't have any special things I consume, no.
We have no rituals any more my family do their own thing now.
I don't really have ritual dinners. I just celebrate the major Pagan sabbaths, such as Samhain, and just have a spread with snacks, fruit and drinks,
Does anyone do the feast usually observed on All Hallows Eve? Back in the day it was the celebration of the harvests.
Well besides the obvious family celebrations, I do not have any personal ritualistic meals. However, my eating habits could be considered strange to some and therefore may be seen as somewhat ritualistic.
Wow..had not really thought of it before..but I guess I do have many ritual dinners. On my deceased Mom's birthday I eat at her favorite restaurant, I have herring on New Years Eve, turkey on Thanksgiving.
I always sort of thought of it has just tradition. Interesting now that I think of it.
We carry out the UK tradition of Christmas but not because of the Religious connotations, its because its now considered a part of the British culture
not sure this would be classed as a ritual prob more like a tradition , or ocd !!!
every friday at 11 52 pm i take notes iv written good ones i lay petals of flowers i have the previous saturday.
