Have any of you ever heard of a Langsuir type vampire?

I had never heard of this before, so I did a google search and found this:

Much like the Indonesian Pontianak, the Langsuyar or Langsuir was recognised by her long fingernails, green robe, ankle length black hair that covered a hole in her neck. She was created by dying during childbirth (or gaving birth to a stillborn child called a Pontianak). The hole was where she fed on infants' blood. She fooled men into marrying her as a human but at the first big dance she got over excited and flew off into the trees. Sir Wouldiam Maxwell in the Journal of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society circa 1885 recorded the Langsuyar

Thanks for your input. My friend was talking about them, but she gets a little ahead of herself sometimes. So I wasn't sure if she knew what she was really talking about.

Thanks for this information Artkema. I had never previously heard of this type of Vampyre; however, it is interesting to see the different cultural views on vampyrism.

There are hundreds, but it depends on how you define vampire, but lets not ruin the thread by trying eh :)

I've got a list that I work on which has a few hundred different vampire 'types'.

Once I have enough information on enough types, I put it together in a member's article, so far I have published two :

Langsuir - Langsuir is a version of pontianak, popular in Malaysia as one of deadliest banshee in Malay folklore. Different from a pontianak, which always appeared as a beautiful woman to devour the victim, langsuir would possess the victim and suck blood from the inside, slowly causing a fatal end. It is believed that langsuir are from women who had laboring sickness (meroyan) as a result of suffering the death of their children and who themselves died afterwards. Portrayed as hideous, scary, vengeful,and furious, the Langsuir is furthermore characterized as having red eyes, sharps claws, long hair , wearing white robe (most of the time), rotten face, and long fangs. These are the common image said by people who claimed to have seen it.

Tis an Asian belief

It is interesting to read about the different types of vampires and this one in particular as well. I was not really aware at just how many types are really out there and I would love to see some more threads like this. I will have to make sure to read over the articles talking about other types as well. I find history and folklore to be fascinating.
