In 1898 Morgan Robertson wrote a story called 'The Wreck of the Titan. In 1912 the Titanic sank. Everything in the story Morgan wrote about the Titan was very similar to the Titanic from the maiden voyage even the mth of the wreck was the same....could Morgan have foreseen the future and wrote his book or was it pure luck that everything was so close....
what are your views towards this can people see the future or is it just a lucky guess?
ohh spooky, well personlly i do believe because ive had dreams of things that have happend ,and mostly exactly how it was in the dream, not always nice things too ,so im glad i dont get tehm that often, which is one reason ive not put too much effort into making my gift stronger
I agree with Kristianathevamp - some people can predict the future, i'va had some dreams which have come true - but they've all been good ones - so i guess im lucky like that.
I do believe that somethings we dream are what will happen to us and we're just being forwarned - but other things we dream are just what we're worring about and are not related to our everyday lives.
Hmmm don't know.
I think its like a horoscope, you can read into it whatever you want, missing out the bits that don't fit which changes the story until it fits what you're comparing it to.
Well Morgan wasn't the only author to predict things of the future, Jules Verne is a well known author (twenty thousand leagues under the sea, to the center of the earth and to the moon and back). He wrote about submarines, guns, rockets to the moon, at a time when gun powder was only just being used as a weapon. So I do believe that some authors are visionaries of the future, can see something and think its pure imagination but in time comes true to life.
Heck even some artists, Leonardo Da Vinci is famous for his helicopter drawings...
So I believe that authors, even artists can see the future and turn it into entertainment not knowing what it is they are really seeing.
ahhh yes but we can look at it this way authors write a story and we build things from them. So is it that they see the future or we make the future from the pass???
Well that is a probability that I never considered, however leonardo da vinci's drawings weren't discovered until a decade ago, so he was a visionary.
I do believe that their are some Individuals whom can see the future however I also believe that it is possible between the span of many years for there is be so many occurances in our existance that some are bound to appear relative to one another....and they do say history does repeat itself.
Their are many almost random occurances like that.... where an artist or author will right or draw something, and years later it may come true. Its kind of like people who are burdened/blessed (depending on your take about it) with the ability of foresight. But maybe this is just on a larger or smaller scale.
yes it is freaky how close ppl can get to the future in the things that they write or draw.
I think it's both. You may have a dream of the future or you may be able to predict/see it. Sometimes it's also just a lucky guess or coincidence.
there is a man I cannot remember his name he was struck by lightening on three different occassions. He's first name is Damien. Several years ago i went to a seminor he holds he predicted gasoline would go up as high as 5 dollars a gallon. I seen him in 2001. Gas right now is close to 4.00 here where I live. he also predicted many problems in the Middle east. I do believe people have inner insight in some predictions of future events. How about Edgar Cayne? He dreamt of people and their illnesses and where they lived.
Many folks have reported having had dreams about airplanes crashing into building prior to 911. It’s possible that some folks can see the future or see planned events that will most likely happen. Hard to say though.
There are many stories that we coudl say are predictions, also there are many stories that we as a race have attempted to recreate.
Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek, and there are thousands of Trekkies all over the globe. As we have not yet found any sentiant life on other planets, his works would be considered inconceivable by many scientists, but even now NASA are working on new spacecraft that will take us to the edges of our galaxy and beyong in a fraction of the time it currently takes (bearing in mind that voyager has only recently left our solar system).
So, in that i suggest that we build on things that others have created in their mind, and yet there are some excellent visionaries out there who can predict the future.
I believe that the future can be predicted, and some would argue that it is impossible, but even simple things like Tarot Cards can predict the future of someone providing they stay on the path on which they travel.
Although the Tarot is not strictly for prediction, and does offer some sound advice, i believe that if someone see's an outcome of a situation, and sticks to the path taking all of the advice given, then indeed the Tarot have predicted something that the reader or querant may well be working towards.

I too think that the future can be seen. For example, when I eat chicken wings, I know what will happen the next morning.
Lord Fangor made my laugh a little, but I am sure that is more from experince than forseeing.
As for artists and authors forseeing the future, or piossibly even the past, I find this highly likey. Sure, some things may have been created because it was seem in a painting, butthere ae many things that were created before the paintings/drawings were even found. You could look into ejyptian mythology for example and find carvings of helicopters and planes in ancient tombs. Somehow I don't find that simple coincidence.
I believe that when someone puts an idea out into the world, it comes true. Similar to the butterfly effect. A butterfly moves its wings and the effect is felt around the world. When we speak of something, we put the idea out into our collective consiousness.
careful calculating.. could be a factor as well...but i fee lthat there could be those that are able t olook into the future.. and foretel lwhats dangers may or may not happen
i tend to believe both sides. I believe that there are ppl out there who can see the future and put it down on paper, then someone picks up on this and designs wat was seen, so it like a big circle. I remember as a kid my mother told me she us to get a comic called buck rogers in the 25th centry. And the space shuttle was exactly the same as it is now. so was the space shuttle designed nearly 80 yrs ago or did some see the comic liked the design and then designed the shuttle around that drawing....
There are times when even I am lucky enough to catch a glimps of the future, though they are fleeting and I only see small parts, I talked with my dad about these dreams, only to find that when he was younger he had similar dreams.
I do not see the beinging and may sometimes not see the out come, many times I have just put it down to dayzavue (cant spell it sorry) until I recall the dream it's self.
It's annoying more than anything because the dreams tend to be broken I can not act on what I see in them.
i have had a few of those....thinking i been here done that and bugs me not knowing why i cant recall when i did it lol
Here is a random thought, for the older residents of Vampire Rave, Buck rogers and how uncanny the space shuttle looks like his craft... I wonder if we will be travelling through times and dimensions in a red telephone booth soon... *wanders off to ponder*
lol...well for us to travel in a red ph booth we would have to go back a few yrs they went out of fasion remember
I had replied in this before, but I wanted to give more info. in 1975 a man named Dannion Brinkley was struck by lightening. he died. He went to the other side and was handed several boxes. One of them foretold of gasoline going up. Another told of a chip being put in a Human's arm with all medical history. that was on the Today show April 30th about they are planning on inserting the chip into humans. there is so much more. One of his books is cause Saved by the Light.
I believe some people have the ability to see the future. Look at Nostradamus.
By the way he did return to his body, I am sorry my mind is not thinking right now. It is a wonderful book. He also stated in 1975 in the future there will be water shortages. He tells what he seen when he went over to the other side. It is amazing.
This quesions is hard to answer....LIke horoscopes...they can be true sometimes because they are so vauge. I've never read this story about the titan....but maybe it was just a lucky guess....maybe no one recognized this mans work until a similar episode accually happended?
I do not know if the author of the TItan was a seer who saw something or just wrote a story that happen to play out later in real life.
I believe some people get a sixth sense about things . I also believe that some may be able to tell portions of future events. I do not believe however that you can find out your future from the countless of so-called fortunetellers that are taking money from those who are desperate for an answer.
I believe that he saw what was to happen and then write a book on it not knowning that he saw the future.
I have a book on the "Titanic Predictions" all about Morgan Robertson...
Just a few years before Morgan made his prediction, there was another young man made a prediction to the papers stating "this is exactly what might take place, and what will take place if liners are sent to sea short of boats"
That guy was one of the many people that perished on the Titanic...
Im not sure if it's just coincidence, or common sense
But then again Robert published his book (1989) almost the exact details of the entire incident
Im in two minds about this one, how did he get every small detail, but was he just one of many that happened to get it right through coincidence
My mind sways me more that its just a cruel twist of fate & coincidence...Not some higher power
I think he may have foreseen it. For someone to be so accurate on the wreckage of titanic, before the boat was even built.
i think that everyone is gifted with the ability to see into the future, like Morgan Robertson, but not all of us have been able to tap into that ability yet or refuse to.
Or is its even possible that it was a lucky guess. H ecouldve jsut been bored the day he wrote the book & might have let his imagination wander a little to the possibilities of the world out there.
I can see both sides of the fence so i cant say for sure on either way....
well i believe that everything in this life happens for a reason, and sometimes we are given clues to what is going to happen..take tarot cards for instance, they can help you make certain choices that will lead you down a certain road...the reason i brought up the tarot cards is this, right before my son got take a way i did a past, present, and future reading on myself...the reading pretty much predicted my whole life changing, meeting a mysterious woman( who i think is my case mananger) and losing something dear to my heart..it was so weird...one day i just burnt the cards because i was scared to know anything else from them....now i relize it would have happend anyway.even if i hadn't done the reading...and i wish i had the cards back now...they were mythological cards with stories of the greek gods and goddesses...okay i am getting off the topic now....basically i do think it is possible to predict the future to a certain extent....i also think dreams can predict the future too if they are interepreted correctly
i think he did forsee the future to me it's weather or not he knew he for saw the future
I do believe he very well could have seen the event transpire in his own mind or a dream and it seemed so real to him that he had to write it on paper. I believe others have foretold events to happen in the future as well.
I don't see why it couldn't have been a prediction. Dreams have a creepy way of coming true and if the book is that accurate, it's probably more than a mere coincidence.
i agree with what most of the people here says. people can predict usually based on their dreams.. i also had similar experiences of dreaming and these dreams come true. like i dreamed of a tsunami and im so scared, weeks later, a tsuname hit an asian city i can't remmber which, and many people died...
when sleeping, the human soul and consciousness drfits off the body and travels to different places and realms. it is there that we see things going on. we sometimes thought that we already saw the person or place or something already happened to us (like a deja vu), but actually its in our dreams that we experience this. the soull travels backward (into the past) or forward (into the future) that's why we see things happen. that's why people can predict things i think
I believe you can see into the future or see things that have happened in the past i dont know how to explain it but i just know i believe in it
this kinda thing is allways happening someone tells me there phone number an i write the numbers be fore they even tell me .. i was at work when i got a banger of a headake i droped to my knees in pain some one came in an told me that the twin towers just got hit by a plane .. right after the pain stoped ..
I do believe that we can see in the future. small glimpses. like a time distoration or not. I have several times happened to me, and the point you realize what was seen dejavoe. So I do believe it, possible to see the future.
What about Norstradamus?
Look at the things he predicted that came true. I think some people may be able to see the future.
I think maybe some of us do have some precognative ability, such as De Je Vu (sp?) I used to get feelings of doing things or meeting people before all the time when I was younger and I still get it now sometimes.
i believe there are still prophets who can do this. or who have done it.
I think the thread is more about people that write novels, or are artists that describe an event a very long time before it happens. Yes there are a great many prophets out there, but how many authors have written great works that mirror an event sometime centuries after the work is published? Thats the question here.
The difference between Nostradamus and Morgan Robertson was that Robertson wrote a story with his prediction proberly not aware of what he was doing. Nostradamus made predictions and wrote down wat he saw and I do believe that out of all the ppl who made predictions he was always close....
I believe we all have the ability to see the future but we rarely use it if we do at all
well there seems to have been many threads on this subject but it is good. I think it is possible to see the future but only future possibilities because there are to many variables that could change the outcome of a certain event. What is seen is what could happen if a certain course is followed but do something a bit different and who knows what could happen
Nostradamus started making predictions in 1550 after a plague in 1547 which he provided medical treatment. He apparently published 10 collections of his prophecies a total of nearly 1000. He predicted WW2 but instead of saying hitler he mentioned hister. He predicted that 3 members of one family would lead a great nation and all 3 would be assinated we all know who this is. Even though these ppl make predictions and some little thing is wrong wat about the big picture it is uncanny how close these ppl have come to wat really happened yes Robert Morgans story of the Titan had little areas different to the Titanic but the main fact of the story was that a unsickable boat struct and ice berg and sunk and then yr's latter it happened if i did something like that and then it came around and happened and I was still alive I think i would commit myself.
There is no way with how close everything was, that it was just a lucky guess. There are people that can see those type of things. But they are so few and many today that are true that they get blocked out and looked at like fakes by the millions of people who like to bs about seeing things.
i believe we all can do it but because of the attatude of mankind that ppl dont use the ability
I do not think it is possible to see into the future.......the only thing that is certain in life is death, no-one can tell exactly what is going to happen to them the next day in their live's......they may plan on doing some things but other things will happen also....=)
I have not read the book but as spooky and odd as the coincidence may seem there have been many ships that have sank on their maiden voyage and that where tooted as unsinkable. Check out some of the shows discovery has done, I think they have had one on this very topic but it was a while back.
I would not say this was luck either but simply coincidence. He wrote a book about an incident that has happened before and will happen again. Look at murder mystery books. It would be very easy to say that those authors are predicting the future as the murders they wrote about surly have happened and will happen again but most people know and realize it’s only coincidence that any of their similarities to actual cases happened.
i wouldn't say i can predict the future but i always know when someone is going to die. If i know someone is sick i always get this really really bad feeling the day before that i should go and see them. I haven't always done this but it seems like the last three times someone has been sick i have felt like this and it always seems that the next day they die. It happened when my great grandmother died, my best friends mom that i've known since i was three and my grandmother last month.
Okay I do believe in this. I have has the same thing happen to me even though no one could ever believe me it happend the way I saw and thought it the way it had happend.
Ghost
If you want to know then message me.
Isn't it something else the way some people can gaze into the future and predict world wide events. I do wish someone had a glimpse of tunsami in the far east a few years back.
Yes people can see the future. At least, through dreams, I think. All the time I'll have a dream that seems to scream at me that a particular thing will happen, and later on it'll usually happen, at least it does when I get a funny feeling that it's a special dream. However, I must also admit that some dreams are just nonsense, utter bullshit. You can listen to them and then something bad will happen. So yeah, I think people can see the future through their dreams, but it's a total crapshoot as to which ones you should listen to.
i have often had dreams of still images. as i go about every day life i sometimes come across what was in my head. i not long had a dream which included my college and a volcano.*smiles*
i think we all do it in dreams but then we can just block it away because it is a dream nothing can happen because of it...we r still learning about dreams and wat they r capable of.
This topic seems like it would do well to explore the idea of the universal subconscious.
While there are many theories on why this is a real phenomenon, it remains that it seems to occur time and time again. Research being done on opposite sides of the world that both are about the same topic. People writing books that reflect on the society so that the metaphor can be taken to a greater extreme.
Another book that has a big sense of déjà vu is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Interesting that he wrote a book about censorship that uses TV to help find criminals. Don't we have several TV shows that now do the same thing?
it is indeed possiable to see into the future. put the future is like a bodie of water its always shift and chaging.
The X Files are a fictional series, however, we are discussing unexplained events not re-inventing another topic :)
lol true well maybe the thing about that is well thing that are unexplainable is not to be explained u know
raven777 perhaps you should consider explaining your post further, one liners do nothing to add to a discussion and are typically deleted.
While you mentioned the X-files, there are some of the episodes that were based off of urban legand and myth. This new myths often have some glimmer of the truth, but the fiction of the series overshadowed this.
Now the TV show that I used to love was I believe it was called In Search of, a great show that focused on both recent and old mysteries that were historically true.
I agree with Liebe. All myths have their ounce of truth, even if they appear in on television for entertainment purposes.
I agree with that on the urban legends, the tv series supernatual does the same sort of thing. But as with all legends they get blown out of proportion and the truth becomes obscure.
I will respond tu this as such...let's take that Nostradamus chap....he made thousands and thousands of predictions. If any one of us sat down and made thousands and thousands of predictions for the future, there's a damn good chance quite a few will hit the mark or be damn close, it's all in the odds. I say it was one of those lucky hits.
I dont think it was a lucky hit Tu, if you had read his predictions, its much more than coincidence, he had alot of details perfect that you wouldn't just randomly think "oh, I'll say that"
I agree Hellacious but the other problem with Nostradamus is that his cont rains are hard to interpret. Also understanding the modern world though the mind set of his time and place.. many of his predictions came true so I think Nostradamus is a bad example personally not to knock anyone of course.
