Some people say that when you die for a short period of time your soul leaves your body. Now when you die in your dreams will you still have an outter body experience or is it all a part of your dream?

A dream can be a powerful thing....

If you dream yourself dead you may find that your body is willing to cooperate

As stated before dreams are very powerful and the simple fact that your body may go along for the ride is no joke.... I think out of body experiences tend to only happen when you have a brush with death.... In dreams it's a different thing... you are watching yourself so as to learn a lesson or re-evaluate a situation....

OBE's can happen at random or, if a person has trained themselves, they can have one that way as well. But throw "near death" into the mix and it's a completely unpredictable different ballgame. I think some people do and some don't.

From what I could remember, about two years ago, I came very close to death a couple of times and never went into an OBE. Of course, I was a little doped up at the time too...hehe :-)

Ah crap, I missed the second part of the ?...sorry bout that...

I think dreams put you into a completely different reality, in which case, it's relatively possible. I had one a few nights ago where I swore I was awake, holding my girl, and looking up at the ceiling....then I felt myself leave my body and "float" into the living room to see two dark figures enter my home.

It certainly scared the shiznet out of me when I finally sat up out of bed.

Did I sort of get the jest this time?

I don't particularly think you can have an out of body experience if you have a dream where you die, but anything can be possible.

Yeah, you can have an out-of-body experience while you sleep, but here's the kicker: if you did, how would you be able to tell it was an actual experience? Wouldn't it just seem like a weird dream?
Just something to ponder.

Depending on the mind, and it's level of control, anything is possible in the dream realm...One can expand through many layers beyond the body...Eventually finding that within the body is the most primative, base, and non-evolved state of mind...

keep in mind that a dream to the minds eye is reality it produces the same eletrical impusles as you do in every day life so yes it is highly possible

I had an OBE when i was 16 coz i died in a car crash and was dead for 32 mins it was scary as fook. i don't think it is a miriacle at all just you die and then you go towards the next life there was no proverbial light and no trumpets or anything lol.

Dreaming you are in an OBE would still be classed as a dream in my opinion as you derampt you died so the OBE would be part of that said dream too.

Sorry again, for my posts being so long. Like it's been said - no good answer was ever a short on.

If you have an OBE in a dream (which you can - anything is possible, guys), it is just as real of an experience as being conscious and then having an OBE (which some would argue is not a conscious state). Does this count as a real experience? Well, it depends on what you call experience.

I'm going to let Robert Nozick, famous philosopher, explain this one (Every thing past here belongs to Wikipedia, available under GNU Free Documentation License).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Experience_Machine. 22 December 2006. Wikipedia.

The thought experiment

Nozick asks us to imagine an experience machine that could give us whatever desirable or pleasurable experiences that we could possibly want. "Superduper neuropsychologists" have figured out a way to stimulate a person's brains in order to induce pleasurable experiences. We would not be able to tell that these experiences were not veridical. He asks us, if we were given the choice, would we choose the machine over real life?

...Initial concerns

Nozick attempts to quell our initial concerns by shrugging them off on the basis of the intelligence of the experience machine scientists. For instance, a primary worry would be something like: who would run the machines if everyone plugs in? Nozick asks us to ignore these concerns, as they do not adversely affect the thought experiment.

The experiment is actually open to multiple interpretations. For instance, Nozick himself claims that you could either map out the rest of your life in the machine before plugging in, or you could go in and then step out for ten minutes every two years or so to choose your programming for the next cycle. While these different takes on the experiment are interesting, they do not directly affect the argument.

... The argument ...

... Reasons to not plug in

Nozick provides us with three reasons not to plug into the machine.

1. We want to do certain things, and not just have the experience of doing them
* "It is only because we first want to do the actions that we want the experiences of doing them." (Nozick, 43)
2. We want to be a certain sort of person
* "Someone floating in a tank is an indeterminate blob." (Nozick, 43)
3. Plugging into an experience machine limits us to a man-made reality (it limits us to what we can make)
* "There is no actual contact with any deeper reality, though the experience of it can be simulated." (Nozick, 43)

... Nozick's conclusion

Nozick firmly believes that there are components of our lives that matter to our well-being in addition to our experiences. We can learn this, he claims, simply by imagining the machine, and then deciding that we would not use it ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Experience_Machine. 22 December 2006. Wikipedia.

Basically, Nozick's argument is that if you don't actually experience reality, things like machines or dreams cannot be of any real value to us. An opposing argument is that of th avid lucid dreamer who says that by controlling your dreams, you can affect your reality.

This may sound stupid to some people but i have had a out of body experience it was strange. Well i say i have i have been that is what i had. I was in a misty room it wasnt misty but the colours was and i was walking over to a woman lay on a sofa seeping. I was a cold mist but could see everything clearly. I walked over to the woman and stroked her forehead she smiled like she felt my touch her forehead.
It felt to real but i was asleep. I was saying something to her and cant remember exactly what but it wasn't something good. Then i woke up in my bed struggling to breath. Once i got my breath back i felt weird and was asking myself what had just happened. When i mentioned it to a good family friend she said you had an out of body experience.

unseendarkness do you not think this could have been just a dream or some sort of involentary astral projection? both of these seem plausable from what you described.

i had one instance when i was younger, around 16y.o. i was laying in my grandfathers bed, while he was at work.i was going to take a nap.i was staring at the light cover above me(the cover was old style designs carved into the glass.) as i stared at it, i felt like the bed was floating up to the cover,my body continued until it felt like i melted into the light cover thru it into the roof.this whole time it got very bright.i found myself walking towards a country side but it was gray and white little by little, figures dotted the countryside, some closer then others.all in death shrouds, and my relatives from before sent me back to live my life, and told me they are and always will watch me.until my calling to join them...mortem...

I believe it's possible. Sometimes I think when people pass away in their sleep that's how it happens. Sometimes we have dreams that we can feel and wake up with our hearts beating really fast...I absolutely believe this can happen

Wow look anything is possible, nothing can be set into stone here. I believe our dreams, OBE's, astral travels are as individual as you are. So with dreaming and dying while dreaming... does the subconscious know that your body has died.. who knows its all uncharted territory and there is no right or wrong answer just boils down to what you personally believe.

Next thing I know my mother has breng me up and I am breathing again.

Has anyone actually ever "died" in their dreams? I've never met anyone that has admitted to actually "dying" in their dreams. I've always woken up right before dying in my dreams as a kid.

I had an out of body experience when I was 12, but at the time I was with 3 other friends and had smoked some pot. Now, with that said, I can't exactly say it was an actual "out of body" experience since it is possible that the effect of the drug was taking its toll.

But when I came to, I had found that I had been laughing profusely and had been pointing at all my friends. I just don't remember doing any of that.

Drugs are a wonderful thing, aren't they. Make you do stupid shit. I'm glad I got all that stuff out of my system in my teenage years.

I agree. You cannot die in your dreams, unless you are going to die. We have dreams of dying, but think about it....don't you wake up before you hit the bottom of the gorge? (or what ever your dying choice may be!) None of us has died in our sleep, and have written about it. It isn't possible. You can astral travel in your sleep, but you come back. You may have left your body in a near death experience but you have come back. Thats the only way we can speculate this topic, because we are not dead!!!!
