ok many people have seen the freddy movies. they follow the plot you die in your dreams you die for real. over the series they made him out to have sold his soul to some demons .
now the question could a creature exsit that haunted your dreams ? could it be psycholigical or supernatural. or could our fear creat something like this?
and no i dont mean freddy as real, just a example
Actually, you can die for real if you die in your sleep. Studies have shown our body still remains very active in our sleep. Our heart rate, breathing, and the such.
Personally, when i awaken from a dream, i can feel the pains from it, as if i have fallen, or got hurt. Further more, if i get scratched in my dreams, i wake up with scratches sometimes.
This is why we wake up before we die in dreams. because experts believe if we die in our dreams, our body will think were dead, and stop functioning.
Yes, but if said professionals stated that you need to jump off a bridge in order to be immortal, would you jump?
Sleeping death is a natural thing, but no one really knows for sure what the person died from because there is no real tech to investigate the dream state to see what dreams may come visually.
So the professional opinions are just that, opinions. No one has any real proof why a person dies within a dream.
Ok, now that your done mistrooing what i said.
They have done tests on many people before on this, ekg's and the dream tests, and all that crap. I have done my research on this subject before.
I never once said it was an opinion. But we have scientific fact for it. That's why some have sezers, chock in there sleep, warm flashes, ect. All linked to our subconscious minds state, and the fears and everything that happens. I have woken up choking on nothing, because i was choking in my sleep. some go so deep into rem, it is thought to be past level 5. were they can NOT wake from such said events, and therefor die.
i may not have done research on this topic but i have watched documentaries on it, and every single one of them end up in the same.
If you dream something that can scare you, choke you, or kill you, your body reacts. No matter what people will say about it being an opinion, it's a true fact. ToxicKitten has had to wake me up multiple times because i was choking in MY sleep and I wouldn't wake up on my own. He wakes me up every time and every time he wakes me up from me choking, it was in the dream that i was choking.
Now, there have been times when I've gone to bed and had no new scratches on my body from our cats, and woken up with cuts or scratches some where on my body. Mind you, I won't remember my dream but i know darn well that no animals were in my room or any where near me at the time.
Experts used some one with a high imagination and had them watch a very graphic horror movie with a lot of death and slaughter. Then they did a sleep study where they monitored the heart rate, respiratory rate, and brain waves. As they slept and entered REM their body began to react to what ever they were dreaming. Their heart rate when up, their brain waves started going hay-wire, and their breathing became rapid. Suddenly all functions died out of no where.
That could be one thing. But there are many factors that contribute to deaths in dreams, marks, scratches, and the such.
Some, could very well be spirits, or could be as simple as an overload of adrenaline from the dream.
Remember, our body is still quite active while we sleep. and our body is still linked to the rem part of sleep, in a critical level.
Fear can cause many things. It could very well cause cause our dreams to invent something that would scare us into a death of some sorts. Or it could very well be some one we are trying to forget. No one really knows. Could it be something haunting our dreams? I don't know, but what i do know is that some spirits could easily enter our dreams and make them what they want or talk to us.
Yes, but what about our happy dreams? could this explain why some youngh males have " wet dreams " also?
"Nightmares are a distinct type of dream distinguished from other dreams by their vividness and terrifying images and powerful emotional content . In ancient times , nightmares were thought to be caused by evil spirits . The word derives from the Scandinavian legend in which a nachtmara - a Mara being a female demon - came and sat on the sleepers chest at night leaving him or her with a heavy , suffocating sensation of being awake yet paralysed . Nightmares are also closely associated with the attack of the incubus or succubus."
This is from a book called The Element Encyclopedia of Vampires by Theresa Cheung .
There is more then spirits that cause dreams. have you not read this forum?
True, good dreams can cause different reactions to a persons body. Such as pleasurable dreams. If you have a dream about having sex with some one your body may very well react to the sexual content of the dream and you'll climax just like in the dream. Other good dreams consist of happy moments, where when you wake up you feel happy but theres no explanation for the happiness.
I think you mean to "misconstrude".
Anywho, my argument stems from those professionals using their machines to look at the brains activities, and therefore monitor those alone.
They cannot see the dream states visibly and therefore cannot tell what is happening within those nightmare type states to determine what is going on inside the subjects mind to ascertain what the death is related to. Only that something might be scaring the person and thus the individual dies.
But what the hell kind of macabre scientists actually participate in these scenerios where they actually expect an individual to die in a dream? Hope the subjects at least signed a release form.
In that case they did, but the subject did not know he was going to die. He thought he'd be ok. but the dreams killed him, in a manner of speaking. They caused his body to react to the images and sounds and the such in the dreams. Often when these studies are conducted, release forms, and emergency contacts, and medical help are on stand by.
It also goes along the lines of us people that have seizers(sp?) in our sleep. it's also brain wave functions too. they play a big role in our sleep, survival, and life in general.
Side note: it's 1:55am, i'm tired, sorry for the mis-spelt words.
"Often when these studies are conducted, release forms, and emergency contacts, and medical help are on stand by."
Unless you have documentation to back this part of your post up, I am going to take this as opinion and hearsay.
Release forms are always signed before any kind of experiment in association with the likely hood of "death" is feasable. Thus, the emergancy contacts and medical help are on stand by, but if the patient or testee is not made aware (which is against their constituational rights) of what might happen to them, then it is by all standards, a very illegal test.
I would recommend those who are willing to take these types of tests to read all the paperwork aside from the fine print and have a lawyer present before agreeing to any of these types of scenerio's.
Sounds to me as if the professionals might have caused the supposed deaths to occur by placing certain images or lighting on the subjects during the course of R.E.M. sleep. Thus causing the stressful environment and the "timely death" to occur.
I guess becuz I belive in the occult there r proably things out there like freddy. Seems unfair to mess with people in there dreams thou.
More powerful spirits that can enter our dream state, mainly.
I'm perfectly sure they know they're undergoing a test that is to see what all kinds of dreams can do to their bodies. So they are more than aware that death could very well happen. It's not illegal at all. It's perfectly Legal. They used to have a show on about it on lifetime when i was younger. I watched it. It was pretty interesting actually. I watched how the subjects acted when it was a bad dream, a good dream, or a sexual dream. Each dream had a different reaction that the other. Each subject had a different reaction as well.
Why would the government fund something that can't be done, and publicly known? Simply put, they wouldn't.
If the government did they'd be contradicting themselves about illegal testing. They put people in prison for illegal testing, but they fund this testing. So obviously it's legal and all of the test subjects know what the possibilities are. That's why there's people standing by and there's medics and such on stand by, just in case.
Now there are other types of tests they do, that are a bit safer, but this one creates the best results for this type.
true, they do other types. But yes this kind does get the best results.
I believe That it would be highly possible for your darkest fears to have such a hold over a person that it will register as a threat to your unconscious self. After all Many people would get sick if people around them are sick, the Mind is a very mysterious place; with it you can do nearly anything.
That is true. With fears some people have nightmares about them all the time. When they wake up they feel like it all really happened and their worst fears affected their real bodies.
I think that any thing is possible if there is faith or some kind of belief in, there for in saying that it's psy thing
Illegal testing is done all the time, it is just never advertised.
so what if illegal testing is done all the time? It doesn't mean that what they did on the show talking about dieing in your sleep was illegal or else it wouldn't be put on TV. The government would never allow something that is illegal to be put into a show or talked about in a show. It's just logic on that one. The testing they used for it was simply so that they could see if dreams could seriously cause death. They also did it so that they could see if all different kind of dreams cause which reactions. It's just all kind of different tests for each reaction. It's just something they wanted to figure out.
there is plenty of lore regarding beings that feed on humans in their dreams.

ok just to throw a spanner in - would Bruce Lee's Demon be something similar - I don't think it was ever proven but apparently his dad and his son had it too...
The demon was his grandfathers who refused to fight it so it went down to Lee's dad - who also refused to fight it
It was passed to Lee who did fight it but ended up dying thus leaving it free to go after his boy...
this is hypothetical as I'm not sure if this is fact or fiction just to make Enter The Dragon a box hit....
i don't think anyone would truely know if it was fictional or not. I t would be cool if it was true though! ^^
i believe anything is possible I grew up with this in our family I have seen my own mother enter back from a so called dream covered in bruises that are unexplainable I have received physical bites in slumber if injuring a person is possible I do blieve killing someone is indeed possible :)
I sometimes cant tell the differance between a dream and something I actually did. some of the dreams I have had feel so real...I need to ask my family if we did something together or did I just imagin it...this can become disturbing at times because sometimes the dreams come thru like a preminition insted ...feeling this way I would believe death in a dream state could cause true body non function ...after a long fall in a dream I get that zero gravity feeling like when on a rollarcoaster
LDG
sometimes a dream can feel so real, that our mind precives it it as reality, and the memories we can almost feel on our very skin!
i heard once that when you fall of something and don't wake up before you hit the ground, you die.
i assume some of you get that weird feeling when you fall in your dreams and suddenly wake.
What level of dreaming are we speaking about? Are they lucid in that the person knows they are dreaming once in the midst of it? Is this associated with night terrors in any way? I haven't spoken to him in awhile but I knew someone from the south who did dream therapy. He was a polysomnographer. He said that people do all sorts of things in their sleep but he didn't mention them dying from a dream. Studies are usually associated with insomnia more than dreams themselves. There are special projects of course but in the actual medical/business practice he said most studies are for that reason.
There are many viewpoints on this but I would suspect if you were scared enough within a dream that your heart could stop. More or less, scared to death.
I watch a show called a 1000 ways to die and there was an episode where they show that yes indeed you can die in your sleep.
They hav e specialist analysing death of people, and they showed that a woman died du to her heart rate increasing to much out of a nightmare she was having and she stopped breathing as she had a heart attack, she was kown to have nightmare and stop breathing along with aretmia when she had nightmare but since she was alone in her bed and without supervision when they analized her death they found out she died du to the nightmare scaring her to death for real.
CM, thank you.
That proves mine and xonexforxdeadx's points earlier in this discussion. With the testing, and how it was done to see if they were correct, and all of that stuff.
i heard once that when you fall of something and don't wake up before you hit the ground, you die.

^^ i heard this too, ive had plenty of 'those' dreams where i fall or trip and my body jerks away, apparently its something to do with your heartrate slowing down and your body reacts t the shock and jerks you awake a reaction to try and steady your heartbeat, i guess if you dont wake up your heart will stop
ive woken up to plenty of weird things, i have pictures on my facebook, when ive woken up and my legs r deeply bruised, not just little ones huge purple bruises rnd my ankle. and i have a little boy ghost in my place, hes been here for years, my children have seen him, i thought i did once from corner of my eye but i dont know, maybe hes trying to wake me up to play :)
Yes, your body knows your asleep and trys to awaken you, again, referring to 2 different minds in one, your conccious and sub concces dont always co-inside.
I believe that if you don't wake before you die in your dream, you do pass over.
It's all really interesting. When I have a dream it comes true. It is weird, and scary. I have been dream about my ex, that means we are going to get back together soon.
Well it is true that one can die during a dream, yet I feel that when it happens it is just because that persons mind is not strong enough to seperate the dream from the reality . many are weak minded and more so when having a bad dream * especially if it is of something they fear even death it self. but, all in all people do die while dreaming. That is a fact.
BehindTheMask, im sorry but your wrong. It has nothing to do with " weak minded people " it has to do with our physical body, have you read the previous posts?
Sub conscious mind is a powerful force in which many question it's realism in science. Sleep death is known yet not alot of info is out to explain the circumstance. Yet a creature who lives in the minds of other causing death is a far fetched movie plot like pumpkinhead or jaws. Yet death is shrouded in mystery that we fear the unknown of what and where it shall take place.
Most sleeping deaths are caused by sleep apnea......It's easliy corrected but in order for that diganose's a person has to go through a sleep study
It is treatable..........but very costly.......so some just live with it......
As far as the whole Freddy thing..........Ehh to each their own belief
I have every single film made on Freddy and it was my first favorite horror I ever got into even before my awakening and the knowledge about the subject I have now. Obviously Freddy is a supernatural creature witch is what the question is about I am sure but most people want to stick to what is safe to believe so people want to call you crazy but I really do not care what people think of me because I am not normal. Well I do believe in the Supernatural and have seen enough to not worry about other people.
Freddy is similar to a sort of Incubus but not the kind most are aware of as there are many different ways the incubus feeds on your life force as you sleep (a sort of Psychic Vampyre. Most people believe that all Incubi or Succubi feed only on sexual pleasure but this is not always the case. The term Incubus comes from the Latin, incubus, or "nightmare" and they prey on humans while they sleep and feed on there fear or pleasure. Incubi or Succubi are also very possessive and may kill the persons partner or those in the way.
Nave you ever watched "Never Sleep Again: The Nightmare on Elm Street Legacy"? The movie was based on actual events of people who died in there sleep under mysterious causes. Possibly it could have been an incubus cause often they do kill there victims...
FatherJP,
That is no loner the point of the thread. The point is, that people die int here sleep, due to dreams. " freddy " is made up, yes. but other things, like getting shot, falling, getting eaten, ect, all consist of this.
sometimes the most violent, and horrendous dreams, are the ones of military, myself, i have had these, and i wake up, checking my self for bullet holes, or missing limbs. they scare me somewhat, but they are un-treatable. un-preventable. Just glad my dreams, can;t shoot for shit....lol.
There have been cases where people have had such violent dreams, the stress caused a heart attack, and the person dies.
MasterMel2,
did you not read my posts? i do believe i said something very close to that.
But, now the people who said this is not true, in the early parts of the thread, do you see now?
Psh, if anyone read every post in a thread before they posted, these threads would die within the week ;]
i've heard of an interesting case that kills around 100 people either a year or since it was noted, during which the sleeping person begins to thrash around as though being attacked, and eventually suffocates. it was mentioned on 1000 ways to die.
I'm not sure if you dreamed that you were being chased by a murder that seeing yourself being wounded would cause enough trauma for the brain to chemically cause death within the body through endorphins or what have you, but the brain could very easily go into shock from a perceived threat and shut it's self down.
So choose what ever talking points you like to support the point of view that suits your opinion best but at the end of this argument there is still one inescapable conclusion. The mind is in control of every single body function you have and the mind is not capable of distinguishing between a conscious and unconscious state.
A dream (like everything else in this world) probably won't kill you but that doesn't mean it can't.
people can die from fear so whatever causes death in dreams might scare people to death. but who knows right? a lot mysterious exist in this world.
Yeah,i seen this show on the learning channel about,
people having realstic dreams, and they can actually
act them out, sometimes in a scarey way.some of them actually dream about death,or being killed..or even dream about having a heart attack, and there body reacts to it all.a chemical in your brain sometimes does not come along and say 'hey your dreaming..stay calm' well you know what i mean...to them, they dont have alot of this chemical..that tell your body to shut down.SO,somthing intence as death, can drive heart rates up,sufficating..anything and actually kill you.
-but only if you lack this chemical.
Well,onto the freddy thing.
I got to tell you, even though you dont want me to!
I watched 4 movies in one night..of freddy flicks.
Guess what!
yeah,i drempt of him comming into my dream.
He was a bit diffrent,darker,scarier..
but he was behind a gate with a large red V on it,
and couldnt get past it.
so,i woke up...wondering,if maybe if he did actually try and kill me,real or not, would i have died?
I'm glad for that gate.
This thread is not about the Freddy movies. Please stick to the idea of the thread.
I used to have night terrors as a kid and still have them from time to time now. I had one so bad one night that I was thrashing around and actually broke my hands and one of my feet. I always felt that if the things in my dreams got me there then I would die and studies have shown that if something is feared enough, it can happen. If your blood pressure gets too high or the heart pumps too quickly it can cause your heart to skip and beat at an irregular rate which can cause death. Also, there have been people who thrashed around so much and were unable to wake that ended up suffocating or choking to death because the sheets got wrapped around them.
...After you closed your eyes, and go to sleep, everything is possible, because now, you are entering a world of unknown creatures. Some can be created by your brain, but, others, will try to get to you, can be for the fun time or can be to torture you.
well maybe I can shine some light on this matter
everything involving the nightmare on elm streets are in fact possible
and here is how
1:there is a disease called SUND[sudden unexplained death syndrome]
they did a example of it on a tv show called a 1000 ways to die:]
in which a dark figure takes form in your dreams and attacks you untill ether its dead or you are.......
although the figure takes form in these dreams hasnt been defeated or i e killed yet
no known reports for a cure for this disease as of yet
so in theory freddie can become real
all it would take is for someone to have constants nightmares about freddie and having this disease as well
so the real scary thought is
can we say a mass hysteria outbreak?:]
2
when you die in your dreams
you can die in real life
simply because your heart rate can speed up and you can have a heart attack
however
you can survive it as well
it all depends of the will in someones mind
and how deep a sleeper they are
3
there have been reports that the CIA
use to induce a dream like state for the people they would interrogate and manipulating them to get information
however......
something reportedly went wrong one time
this person dream about about being back in some war fighting a enemie
and he killed 12 people while in this dream state
3
and for my last point
you can commit suicide during a sleep walk
and sleep walking is not unheard of
now
imagine if you
a brilliant mind like a doctor or a scientist top in their field
decided to make a bio weapon that can do all three things I listed above
and then a accident happens
and poof
we have a real life nightmare
one where
not safe awake or sleep
TheSleeperKing.
P.S
just something to ponder folks
nothing more:]
Its all true about demons attacking you when you sleep. When you sleep you are helpless. If they choose for you to die in your dream, you may never wake up.
you are all right in ways. and i do agree i have woken from some dreams hurt or sometimes if i'm being held back in my dreams i can't wake up until i'm released.
There have been many legends of creatures that affected you primarily in your sleep- incubi, succubi, etc. Sleep is when we're vulnerable, we're out, we're not lucid, we're recharging for the next day and we're not on guard. It would seem to make sense if there were creatures that preyed on us when at our weakest.
As for actually being able to physically die when you die in a dream, I believe it may be possible. Some people have more realistic, lifelike dreams than others...and almost everyone has had a dream they wake up from as soon as they're about to die. Who's to say that the person with the most realistic dreams wouldn't die if they weren't to wake up at the last minute? I believe it's possible.
You can die in real life if you die in a dream. In some nightmares you jolt awake before something bad happens and your heart is pounding. Well what if you don't wake up? Let's say your falling and actually hit the ground. It can actually cause you to jolt so hard that you'd break your neck or you'd have a heart attack. So yes, it's very possible.
the subconscious is a very powerful thing it can actually kill you, especially in your sleep as thats its when it is dominant
during wake you can have your subconscious control you to a point of causing pain, or other things that are not real.
its the same about sleeping, it can be worst since when you sleep you can loose that control and the subconscious taking over can cause death or worst making you wake up with something not working anymore, it has been scientificly prooven to happen.
just think of the old people that die when their lifetime partner is dead, they die int heir sleep while they were healthy just the day before. theh simply stop living
your subconscious can program you to beleive you are dying or dead and make you stop breathing, your heart beat and your brain to fonction, causing you death, and out fo fear worst as if is sees danger or trauma as real and causes death.
