This is of course excluding vampires that do not drink or use blood.

I have heard various explanations such as they need hemoglobin because they have a natural deficiency. I have also heard they use it to keep young and immortal. The best explanation I have come across was they use it for energy to function properly.

What have you heard and what do you believe about vampires and blood?

Blood is the physical manifestation of the Pranic currnet/life force.

Therefore taking of the blood rejuvinates the energy.

There is a process which i have heard, that drinking of the blood of a virgin when the hyman is ruptered produced effects of rejuvination and restoration, because of the years of potential energy stored within that blood, of all the blood the female body expells over the years, this blood is only once, it is the energy from their birth, for how ever many years they live, a resivour of this current.

So the blood of a aged virgin would be extremely potent, interesting.

i agree with the fact that blood, in my case is energy... and not only the blood itself, but the life that comes with it...

Everyone I've spoken to that drink blood have stated that they drink it for energy purposes.

I haven't tried this myself, so I wouldn't be able to explain it to you first hand.

From what I have understood from others here, those that take blood, take so little that it would seem impractical for energy use.

It would seem that some like the taste.

Their blood lacks some properties so drinking blood from other forms of life temporarily sustains them.

What I've heard most is that they do it for energy or because they simply like the taste. I know one person who finds drinking blood to be a turn on. I've heard the energy thing the most though.

the only reason ive found that blood helps me is that without it im sick and sluggish all the time. its basicly the same for all types of vampirism the life force(blood,energy etc) keeps them healthy or content.

Well, not that I believe in vampires... but to me the answer is simple, blood is as vital to them as food and water is to us humans...
It's nutrition, energy, call it what you like but a necessity to survive and grow.

to drink blood is to gain energy
but what about those that do not need to drink blood to gain a persons energy take empaths or psy vamps, they dont need blood to drain their victoms (donors or what have you)

blood leting is a bonding thing for me, a bond that can not be bronkn and should not be abused. once that bond is made there is no breaking it.

How about they need blood because real vampires need blood for health and other reasons, and dropping this idea of energy deficient people being vampires just because they want to claim the name vampire.

the blood itself is life, and energy therefore it give energy and also help extend life since it is life itself.

In my own personal experience, the blood has been part of an erotic encounter, but i definitely dont see it as a MUST. Of course i am speaking for myself ;oD

Personally, it started out as a curiousity, then turned into A sort of fetish, now it has progressed beyond that, There is no real requirement, yet... but It seems to give me a heightened sense of everything around me, even months after feeding, As I saw somebody mention earlier, I can smell changes, hormonal, and physical, just small things that most do not or can't notice. As for a scientific answer to why true undead would require it, I believe you answer lies in history, I am tempted to thing that the elder vampires were not as dependant on blood for sustinence, but much like humans mutations can occur when a new being is created, I believe their cells have become more and more structurally unstable, to the point where regular feeding is required

I was always under the impression that it was all of the above. vamps need the energy, they need the hemoglobin, they need it to be immortal.

There's nothing more to be said than that.

It is true. Without blood there would be no life. Even with the heart beating and brain functioning, blood is still needed for them to gain nutrients and oxygen to function. It also goes back to the old folktale that vampires are dead or living dead. Blood gives life so if a vampire feeds off the life force of the blood they feel alive.

I think it depends on the person there are those that are out there that if they dont have any blood for a prolonged time they find that when they are say oh I dont know making out with someone and they go to nibble on the person they find that they have an urge to bite down to the bone or even tear out a chunk of the person. Once they get blood or red meat into their system they are fine. So it may be a genetic thing, either because they are part vampire genetically or they have some deficiency. As fir the energy thing it was beleived back in the time of Vlad the Impaler that the drinking of the blood of another not only gave you strength it also gave their energy, their memories, any powers they may have had and basically the persons very essence. So it may be for energy. The tatse factor is very true in the fact that just like the body craves somthing thats its not getting it does the same with blood, afterall whats has the hightest amount of copper other than copper itsself? Blood. Many like the taste because of the copper just like there have been cases of pregnant women eating things like dirt because they dont have the nutrients or enzymes in their body and thats what the body needs and wants. Those that are full vampire, half vampire, or natural born, will automatically be able to smell blood of any type. The virginal blood is the purest for the fact that they are clean they have been with no one, and as for periods all vampires and humans alike should know that its basically dead blood and should not be drank. Humans are not meant to drink blood it will make them sick and if they have too much they will puke it back up, also vampires that are not blood drinkers can survive on it but only for a time before it weakens them and again makes them sick, for humans a little bit of blood wont hurt them or make them sick and they just have a mind set that they are vanpire or that they need it but there is no harm with the exception of the diseases nowadays.

Well if your talking about vampires like dracula, then i always thought they needed blood to replenish theirs, so that they would not die from having no blood, and if you are talking about modern day vampires then i think they drink it because they think it gives them energy...

I have heard those same things. I have a hard time believing anyone, unless they have an illness needs to feed off blood to live

Has to agree it is a energy source i also seem it used when people wee starving they drank of the Blood to keep themselves alive and it did work it replenished the missing elements to sustain their life..

From a personal view I have never really bothered trying to examine the clever medical or physical reasons why I need blood, it is just a constant part of me and that was that I have learnt to live with it and not analyse it.
To me it is a strange sort of feeling, almost like the nervous jitter you get after you have had a fright and your adrenaline has been rushing. It just sort of builds and builds inside until eventually AAAAAGH!!!.
The craving doesn’t appear to have a regular time interval or to be induced by any particular thing and for me it is not sexual.
A few times I have tried to fight against it and there are a few things I can do to stave it off for a while but eventually I have to give in to it.

Physically, I am not sure of. The human body should not be able to handle more than a cup of blood without vomiting, so if a vampire can consume more than that than it most likely is a need for them.

I think the idea of it makes sense though. Blood, is life. Without blood, we die. Why are there ritual sacrifices? You need the blood to create power. Power, life. Legendary vampires are merely corpses that have a bloodlust. By draining living beings of life, it sustains life in them for a limited amount of time before they have to feed again.
But modern sang vampires are different. I think the power idea comes into play, though the life symolism is hardly lost. I think blood is really a lot of symbolism in most cases.

vampirizism is a desease that gives the host a hemogloben deffisence. so they need to drink noninfected blood to cerculate oxygen through their body so they do not suficate.

i need blood. thats why its important. its like water or food. if i go w/o blood, very bad things happen to me. same as going w/o food and water. i dont know if i would die but i came close once. dont wish to repeat that experiment.

Unless you are a true dracula type vampire you do not need to drink blood, you may like to drink blood but you do not need it to live...

They need it for energy and some to live others just like it.

I drink blood and energy. I find that when taking fresh blood you get more of that persons energy. It's like two meals in one. lol

For me drinking blood is to take in the essence of the enrgy of that person, altho you can also get the enrgy from non-blood feeding, to me it is the concentrated best thing. I also choose to bond with my donor, often causing a strong bond of love, and linking our emotions in some cases to the point of psychic bonding.
Everyone tastes different, some are metallic, some sweet, you are what you eat. A friend with a heavy amount of medications in her life tastes thin and not bitter but altered.
