i have been searching the web for about a week or so now to find more information on vampires and the such. and ive seen a constant amongst nearly all of them.this line is an example ""Real Vampires"-how can this be anything but a contradiction in terms? "

why in the world would people try so hard to discredit theries that most believe to be nothing but hokus pokus anyway? i just dont get it. they make anyone that believes therse things out to be a loony. and its really bothering me now. these ideas and legands have been around forever. and no matter what they say about them we will still believe. so i guess what im getting at is why do think they try to discredit not only the legands but those that choose to believe them as we do not attempt to do the same to their beliefs

some people are just scared .. by anyone and anything .. that is different ..

personally ... i think the do it ... to make them selves feel better .. more important .. BEST ..

"Look at me .. I am so much better than you, that i can SHOOT your beliefs down in flames and watch you burn with them" ...

know what i mean? ...

and honestly .. it takes a very small minded coward ... to view someone else and someone elses beliefs .... in that way ...

BUT as always .. this is just my opinion :)

The truth lies in the past......and the past is something that is controlled by those who know and fear the General Reaction of those in the present....it raise tooooooooo many questions and bares very few answers.

The ones who try to discredit things are the ones who are afraid of loosing their power. Usually someone who has made their name by stomping on others and building up their own click.

The Supernatural has been seen/reported/and pass down since the start of time. Which tells me there is more to it then the mainstream what us to know.

I feel that some people are 2 dimensional, unless they can see, touch, smell even taste it, then in their mind it doesn't exist.

You can argue with these people until your blue in the face and can't breath any more, unless you produce solid proof they refuse to believe in anything. And they then insist on convincing others that such things as vampires don't exist.

They will always be around and will always exist, the more time and attention they get the more fuel they get to continue down their path, ignoring them is always the best answer.

Mind you to these people I always have one thing to say:

"If they don't exist, Prove It!"

that bothers me to, and I can't understand why people make so much efforts to discredit certain things that they don't understand or believe, when they have nothing to win with that... probably is like RavenSunflower says, they are afraid of loosing their power... geezzz... quite poor, this power there it of discrediting others... :X

It bothers me as well. I think that is certainly because individuals dont want themselves to be seen as something that the media has deemed false, and therefore stupid or childish. A person is smart, people are dumb panicky animals ( thank you men in black lol)

gothicjoker nice thread you open here...
yes... what's the point of trying to discredit others, if they will not going to change their believes with just a little chat chat... I do not need to prove anything, I'm fine with my believes... but if people want proves, it is them who have to make efforts to find those proves... not me... It's simple as this, 12 years ago I knew were 2 real, supernatural vampires lived, here in Portugal... they were from England... of course, I don't know if they still there, but if anyone wants me to point the way... that's fine with me, I'll take them there... but if they are not there anymore... that is not going to discredit me... because I know they were there 12 years ago... I made my efforts... so shall you, who wants to find the truth... ^^

that was a great post. and to that i would like to add that unless you are a supernatural being in one form or another than you will never have proof. it really is that simple

Maybe because they honestly don't believe in it and they don't want to see other people get tricked into believing something that they are certain is not true? Like you said, you can't really change someone's beliefs just by arguing with them, but the same is true for both sides of the story.

You might be certain that it is true, and they might be equally certain that it is not. And either side of the argument is bound and determined to spread their 'truth' to others. It's human nature, that's why we have newspapers, and reporters, and documentaries.

And the burden of proof should lie with whoever is making the claim. If you can't prove it, don't expect anyone to believe you, and don't get bent out of shape if they disagree outright. After all, you don't believe them either.

I think the reason that some people try to discredit others is because they have never seen anything that people believe in like ghosts, ufo's, vampires ect, but their are thoes who do believe in it and who try to show people that it is a possibility or that it could be real, the people who try to discredit other will never turn thoes who believe into none believers, no matter what they do...

People aren't tolerant of what the don't know. Unless they havhe proof, hard facts that it is real, they will discredit it it until it appears. For some though, even that isnt enough....annoying.

People like what they know and can control. That is why we have religious systems based on the supernatural - gods and so forth - it helps reinforce power structures. You dont like what I say says the king - well I know of an even more powerful force etc

I think sceptics have to try to disprove everything they aren't willing to believe is true, until they are bitten on the butt they won't believe in anything with out some physical evidence. Sighs just the way of the world.

I hate skeptics but blindly following a series of legends and myths is also not some thing i'm keen about...I mean what can we believe in ?
There are so many contradictions within them and no proof to proove otherwise...Who can prove what actually happened in our past? But at the same time yes being close minded does not help anyone...I believe you have to be open minded to accept anything but at the same time try to prove one's belief might be true by applying reason and a little bit of logic...This is just my opinion...

So Many enjoy putting others down in order to make themselves look better its like they get off on it.. can also hold true with discrediting Things they really dont know nothing about or are Afraid of or they are just individuals who are Ones who need to see to believe and no matter what they hear until they can proove it themselves we can try till were blue in the face and it will be a waste of our efforts...
But Why do they need to discredit something.. I truely dont know i think due to their difficientcy in the knowledge base of who and what Vampires are and Who we are and How we came to be they think it is cool to belittle it and usually make it a Funny so others will laugh and think their cool.. Honestly i think their just showing their ignorence and wont pay attention to it cause Thats all their looking for...

well said Callia...
billions of persons believe in evolution...
but were are the proofs?
we have lots of skeletons, bones of dinosaurs, right? they existed. period
so, if we can find lots of those bones that prove their existence, we sure would have lots of skeletons that prove the 'THEORY' of evolution... were are they? the hundreds of bones of the transitions between monkeys and humans? were are they? :X

it's easier to proof the existence of supernatural vampires... only my opinion ^^

People once believed that the Sun was an angry flaming god chasing the moon out of the sky. Are we wrong to point out that it's but a star in a universe of stars? Legend is often the way an uneducated people try to explain the uknown. More and more often, legend is disproven by medical facts and or science.

To those things science has not explained, perhaps there is a magic reason or metaphysical solution, but when a rural and illiterate people dig up a body they believe to be coming back from the dead and use the natural blood that is coming out of the mouth as proof of the undead having fed, then cut off it's head and stuff garlic in it's mouth to save the remaining family members during what is in fact a tuberculosis outbreak, and then prosecute the local midwife as a witch for creating the beast...I personally don't think it's a sign of closed mindedness or prejudice to understand the ignorance at play during that time.

Anything paranormal scares the shit out of people, because, well it can be scary shit sometimes...And more than that, they don't want to leave their beliefs behind. But there's too much shit not to acknowledge the presence of the paranormal.

Gautham,

In Genesis there was supposed to be a great flood that killed many things no longer here with us only the righteous survived this flood. Noah own children according to this book in the bible didn't all survive the flood. So much for the bible

Real vampires if there are any don't go around advertising their exsistance. They would keep this to themselves, people tend to shun and even try to destroy things they don't understand. They tend to be frightened and hurt what they don't understand.

Now back to the bible GOD told Noah which animals to take in pairs and which people that were worthy enough to survive and go with him.

I am sure there is a place that mythical creatures still exist but their is also a vail which we cant cross. Sometimes these creature can cross over and that is why we have stories about vampires and other mythical beings.

Mikhail

PS part of this was a try to answer Gautham. the other just my opinion.

whether the dark ages, modern times. Or even the very rarely known discredited cave man drawing of a figure shaped like a man, but imaged like some form of bat-like body with it attacking what is to be looked upon as another cave man.

vampire myths legends truths fictions has been around since the beginning of records
people as stated above fear that which they do not know or that in which, can not be answered. people are scientists by nature only being open minded to that they truly see and blind to what is in front of them or which can not be proven by physical evidence.

whether vampire exist or not will probably never be answered to anyone's expectations. Some will want it to be true others want it false. In any case its one of those dilemma if proven so many years of study and disputes would be down the drain and not many want this to happen. So any truths found would just be covered up anyways mainly to protect those who wish not to believe

Exactly my opinion Razziel....Even if anyone gathers proof the chances of it kept silent are high......

And this is to Mikhail....
I agree with you but honestly today with reason and proof can i honestly force myself to believe in something which may never get proved in the first place.....I'm not saying vampires never existed, maybe they did, maybe they didn't.....My point being who know's.....The only thing people can do is believe or not believe....I am someone who's in the middle....

As one of the great philosphers of all time, John Ford said, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.
There is sometimes more truth in the legends than there is in a mere collection of facts. It isn't a question of what is, but what do you believe.

People fear what they don't understand. They want to disprove the things that do not fit into their belief systems. It happens a lot with many different things. I think some people just like the power they think they have in shooting down other's beliefs. The thing is, people will believe what they want no matter what someone else says about it.

Legends about Santa Claus (St. Nicholas, Chris Kringle, Father Christmas, etc.) have been around arguably as long... yet if someone were to actually believe in flying reindeer and a jolly fat man traveling the world in only a single night delivering toys, I doubt you could call such persons anything but "loony."

Thus, just because legends, superstitions, and myths have been around for a very long time doesn't make belief in them any more logical, now does it?

However, yes... there really was a "Saint Nicholas" who did do many kind things for children and others that prompted the beginnings of what has grown down through the many centuries into today's popular culture icon of what we call "Santa Claus." And thus, there is an historical kernel of truth behind the later complete fictions that resembles those later fictions not at all.

And so also with those today called "vampires."
