I was asked a very interesting question in my Philosophy class, and I was wondering if the member's of Vampirerave had an opinion about this question:
Is the spirit a body encased by the spirit, or a spirit enfleshed? and Why?
Two of the students of my class said it was spirit enfleshed, and my teacher generally agreed with them.
i think that the spirit or the soul if u will. Is a entire different being. so i think that the spirit is a spirit encased the flesh. but i must ask this. does the soul truly exist in this world.
We can easily get into a religious discussion of whether the soul's exist or not, but I'd rather not. You can start up topic about that if you want.
neither do i. i just dont want any one to feel as if i am putting there beliefe's down
I don't mind if you put my beliefs down, or anything other, I asked you for your opinion, and a reason. You gave me that, and that makes you awesome!!!
I tend to look at it this way...
The body is a mere vessel for the soul to exist in our world, which gives meaning to the phrase "the eyes are the windows to the soul".
In my opinion, the spirit is differant than the soul, religion has nothing to do with this concept. The spirit is what you feel, an emotional empathy in words. The soul is the ethereal part of you that exists evermore after you have passed from said vessel.
Thus, I tend to agree with the teacher of your course as well as the couple of students.
Very good thread.
Thank you, I would have to agree with that my professor, is very involved in the class, and puts up interesting questions, about philosophy, and other stuff.
I believe that our soul is slightly above us. I do not believe that it can be in cased, other wise how could we astrally project.
As for the question does the soul live in this world I think the answer to that is yea and no. It lives between the physical and the spiritual world.
We could possibly liberate it from our body's through meditation, and other such means.
I must agree with your professor. I think our spirit is enfleshed in our bodies. And like you stated we can acheive astral travel/projection through meditation and concentration.
perhaps you should look it as liquid in a cup. The liquid is housed in the cup but the top if always open so it can flow out
I think a paradigm shift is needed
If you understand were gods or angels or daemons whatever floats your boat.
Living a human experience.
A spirit in a body of flesh and blood.
We as well as all other life are energy and energy goes on and continues even after death. Just as our souls do. Weather you believe in reincarnation or heaven and hell you are still continuing on in a form of energy.
I would have to say it can be both.
A spirit within the vessel, which has been bound by said vessel to act as a medium of punishment or development, until the spirit can take full power of the flesh. in which case then upon proper development becomes the spirit manifest as flesh.
The flesh is the means a tool of the spirit, instead of its anchor to this plane.
Again from my perspective and understanding of its mechanics but I haven't been working under this query enough yet.
Great posts.
in my opinion, the body is the casing for the soul/spirit. with out the body the soul/spirit would either not exist or not have a place to reside and would therefore be forever suspended somewhere. dont ask me where because i dont know. but as i said, the body holds the soul/spirit.
The physical body is but a "meat sack" used to encompass and house the spirit so that it can experience things and learn in this world.
I believe the spirit is part of the flesh and bone and blood. That it flows through the body as a whole.
Great answers! Here's my thought, I think it's enfleshed because the spirit is supposed to flow throughout you, and if you wanted to astral project, you take some of the spirit out of you and place it in the astral projection. It's similar to "Naruto", for a shadow clone to work, the clone has to have similar properties, or the exact same chakra flow.
I vote for the spirit refleshed...the spirit is not itself a body, the body is a temple, the spirit or soul dwells in the temple. when the temple dies, the spirit moves to a new temple.
My belief id that the human body is just a temporary vassal for the spirit. Once this vassal has done all it can the spirit finds a new vassal, and the cycle begins again.
If the spirit can move on after the body is gone, then the spirit is only using the body as a vessel. So I would said it is incased by flesh.
yes i too believe that your class mates were right and so was you professor...
in my oppinion,
spirits are enfleshed by the body.have you ever wondered what it is that truly gives us strength to carry on when we get knoced down hard metophorically speaking?this is not a religious veiw,im merely talking about how our human spirits can lift us up from the primordeal shit of downfalls.
QueenofChaos, what I think is that the soul is the inner being of person.. and the spirit is the essence of a person..
There are a few middle eastern religions who believe and work towards soul perfection before they die. If the soul is not perfect then to them that means it has to travel back in the form of another host body. Two examples of these regilions are, Sufi's and the Whirling Darvish's who use dance to free their souls to reach Nirvana.
to me the spirit a body encased by the spirit, as otherwise how woudl ti be able to rest, when its s pirit who needs to be helped by simply burning the body, which makes it free to go forward and be finally free.
I would have to agre with the claim that a spirit is enfleshed in a body, beacuse it seems so to me/us.
On the other hand, some hindu spiritual teachning teach that one is not the body at all, nor is he in the body, but as they reffer to it, a eternal witness to the bodys state of five senses, wich is forever blissing, a free energie, of divine origin, just it has that yet to realise.
alixaryon where did you get that interpretation?
...................................................................
It is part of hindu spiritual techings wich eventualy leads to understandings of ones higher self, and out of what it is made exactly.
I Think the spirit is "enfleshed". If there is a spirit.
I can't say I totally believe in the whole "we have souls" in THAT particular way. I believe we have souls of morality etc. allowing us to decipher what is right and wrong and between the two which would be a better course of action.
But at the end of the day I think we are the soul as much as the soul is us, if that makes any sense...
I know what I mean ^^;
Illianos.
i tend to agree with most everyone here and your teacher......
I believe your spirit lives on after you die to find another host. So i suppose it is enfleshed
