More of a curiosity to see your thoughts…
Elisabeth Bathory was known to supposedly bathe in the blood of young girls to maintain her beauty. Do you think that this woman is a version of a “vampire” in history or just a very disturbed countess?
She wasn't a vampire, just an insane woman obsessed with blood and it's "effects" on her youth.
Yes, it would be a good poll. I suppose I am more after why so many articles call her a vampiri.
Looking for opinions on why or why not.
i do not think she is one of us for the fact is that just becoue you are a blood drinker does not make you one of us
I feel she was just a very eccentric woman that got away with murder and got off on it ....
Simply drinking blood does not make you a vampire/Vampyre. Drinking blood is more of a metaphor than anything else. It signifies taking the life essence of something. Taking the life energy, if you will. Elizabeth just used the blood of virgin girls because she believed it kept her looking young. I suggest watching Vampire Secrets, if you can get your hands on it. They play it on the History channel every now and then, and you can also buy it. It's got a very interesting segment about her.
She didn't get away with murder, DarkLadyDahlia. She was punished for what she did. Granted, it was only after she started going after the virgin daughters of the nobles. They kind of said, "Oh, no, no! I don't think so!" and locked her up.
Thanks for the history site.
I personally believe she was extremely sadistic and was not a vampire. It is interesting, however, that her story was close in time to vampire myths of the 18th century.
Just a niave lady who took it upon herself to be obsessed with blood after a bit dropped onto her skin making it appear to have rejuvenated it. Sadistic in her way to kill and bath in blood, this does not make one a vampire.
There are various characters in fiction which references to her. Like Vlad the Impaler her 'strange' habits rippled into vampiric associations.
Does anyone think the notion of bathing in blood is erotic?
She was not a vampire. She was obsessed with blood and what it could do to her skin. She thought of it as a fountain of youth in a sense.
Bathing in blood doesnt make you a vampire. Many romans used to bathe themselves in blood as an offering to the gods ...same with mayan and aztecs...as much blood as they drank they were not vampires.......or were they??
She was richer than the king and was brought up that way. Her marriage to a cruel man taught her more like honey on the body and let the insects eat you and so forth.
This was common practice and common people didn’t have rights.
Her capture and imprisonment was a political event and nothing more.
She held giant orgies and slaughtered virgins to bathe in the blood. Considering it never says anything about her drinking blood or turning into a bat [hah] no she's not a vampy.
No I don't believe she was a vampire I believe she was a serial killer.
Don't think she drank the blood or even diddled the girls. It was all about exfoliation.
If she stuck to peasant girls she never would have been caught or they would not have cared but it was the last three(noble virgins)that got her locked up.
I think that she was a very disturbed individual and that she did help influence vampyrism just a bit. Im not sure if she actually drank human blood but she did use it to try and keep herself young and beautiful. If you look at the myths associated with vampyrism most vampyres relied on blood to keep them young. Even if she did not influence the actual feasting on blood she most likely did influence many authors that write about vampyres.
haha,...i love proving people wrong on this one, i have been studying this for years...Yes it is true that she has been bathing in the blood of not only young women, but as well as babies...she baths in the blood of young women to keep her beauty, and also baths in the blood of babies to gain more memory space, and more spirtual energy only because babe girl's Blood has so much spirtual energy..
I don't think she was a form of a vampire I just think she had certain beliefs wich caused her to do the things she did
You didn't prove us wrong on this one, Gothlika666, you just added some info that some of us may not have known before. :)
