I'm planning on taking a few days either side of the event.

Is anyone else getting there early or leaving late?

I will be getting there early. I don't know how early yet. Maybe on Wednesday.

I don't plan on staying late.

We will be in the area maybe before, but certainly after the event. My Sister and her family live not too far away, so we will be spending some time visiting with them.

well planning isnt usually my way of doing things, however i may have to see if i can take time off work for this

If I'm able to pull that off, then I will be there early.

Elemental, Vampirewitch39 and I are planning on at least a couple of days early to explore.

I will be arriving about 2 days prior to finalize with the hotel.

I'm thinking I would be there at least a few days earlier. As I have to come from Australia and don't want to get there on the day =P And I'd love to do tours and stuff so would probably stay on later as well.

I have a question that may be of interest to others also.

Does the Hotel have parking? And, if they do is the parking free while staying there or is there a charge.

Finding a place to park has been a challenge every time I've driven in NOLA. Most of the times I've been we simply took a shuttle bus from the airport into the city and either walked, trollied or taken a Taxi wherever we wanted to go. We always stayed in a hotel near or in the Quarter, so it wasn't an issue.

As we will be renting a car and driving our son out to stay with my sister in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday morning, will will need to park the rental car somewhere.

The hotel has limited parking available. Only 50 spaces.

The hotel's airport shuttle is $13.00 each way per person.

The Taxi between the airport and the hotel averages $30.00

I live pretty close. If I'm not working, I'll certainly show up.

If I am able to go, and anyone decides to fly into Mobile or Gulfport (for whatever reason) I could probably pick them up.

Note. you cannot just show up. Even if you dont get a room, you must still pay a deposit for the dinner and events, and make a reservation.

that is good to know about the cars b/c i will probably be staying a few days after and will want to rent a car

If you will be sharing a room with someone else do you have to pay the full price for both or is it different with that situation.

The rate is 250.00 per person for two people in a room.

Singles are 500.00. Sorry singles, the hotel wont budge on the pricing because the hotel has a limited number of rooms.

If you take a roommate, your booking becomes NONrefundable. so get the insurance in case you need to cancel for an unforeseen emergency. Note: Insurance does not cover just changing your mind, or canceling due to divorce.

Ok that sounds good. I just wanted to make sure so me and my boyfriend knew how much to put away for it.

I need clarification for those who live here and want to attend the dinner and events. Do we have to pay $250 as if we were getting a room when we won't be needing one? How will this work for me?

KCRC in addition to there only being 50 parking places there, it is also not free parking..its $28 per day per availability.

Gotta question... If there is a room with 4 ppl and the first two ppl in the room are over 18, can a 3rd or 4th be under 18(17 to be exact). I have a friend here who really wants to go, but wont turn 18 till shortly after the event.

We may rethink our plan. I will see if I can get my sister, brother-in-law or niece to drive down to NOLA, drive us to the hotel and take David home with them. We can take the shuttle back to the airport and rent a car on Sunday instead.

Save $56.00 in parking, 2 days on the car rental...Now I just have to convince my sister that it's worth driving 3 hours on a Friday to see her wittle brudder!

I didn't know where to post this question and I couldn't find it on the hotels site either so are there smoking rooms? Not rooms that smoke... rooms that you are allowed to smoke in? and if thats the case are you making that a clear option with teaming up roomates?

I only ask that because it was brought up in the general VR discussions and I'm a smoker and the other person make it clear that she was opposed to smoking. If there will be one than I'm afraid there may be more.

As of now, the hotel has both smoking and nonsmoking rooms.

However, the hotel director has informed me there is a state bill being submitted that would ban smoking from all indoor public places, except bars. I have no way of knowing if this bill might be put through prior to our event or not.

I wounldn't be surprised if they do...or even eventually go to all no smoking rooms, as well as public places. More and more states are passing that now...

Since drinks arent provided with the catering, I can bring some 2 liters or w/e as well Z.

Just wondering what everyone wants? Any preferance on drinks? Or does anyone have special needs (i.e. diabetic etc??)

Im going to bring quite a few.. plus a huge cooler of ice. I am not paying 10.00 a freakin 2 liter.. ::mutters::

We're planning on bringing a bunch also. Hell the French Quarter A&P is within walking distance and soda's WAY cheeper than $10.00 a pop there!

Woo Hoo the A&P sounds like a good deal to me, too! We can hit it on the way in since we're driving. 10 bucks for a 2 liter sounds too much like the price of gasoline. :)

I don't believe the parking question is answered or not. Where do people park after the 50 are filled? Randomly on the street? Is there room for that?

There is no long term street parking in the French Quarter. There are several lots around but it is quite expensive. The one I remember is down at the end of Canal St. by the hotel that USED to be a Westin that is by the mall and Aquareum. I'm sure there are others, but I've only driven into NOLA twice. Usually we would fly in, take a hotel shuttle and then take cabs streetacrs / walk.

I'm a bit concerned about parking and having to carry all our stuff to the hotel. :s

How about name tags......will there be some sort of name system? I mean, I will recognize some, but some I won't. Most probably! Especially in low lighting haha.....name tags with Rave name? ;)

Maybe VR name tags would work... I mean in a lot of cases we know each other by VR names not actual names.

If you are not staying at the hotel, and have not registered for the events or paid the al la carte event fees.. you will not be allowed in.

Sorry People.. but my agency is charged by the head for everyone that attends. The hotel does a head count, and charges my credit card on the spot for any extra's.


If you want to attend an event and are not staying at the hotel, you MUST book by July 1st. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. You cannot book after July 1st, and walkins are not allowed.
