...saying Twitter makes me think "I tawt I taw a pootty tat." It's weird. I just opened a Twitter for my company to do some shameless advertizing... but I realize people actually have to subscribe to follow it to get a feed. Instead I'm getting hounded with information from Lance Armstrong... he apparently twitters way too much, as does the Ellen Show and Cold Play... I have no idea why they're on my default list.



But looking around for other to subscribe to, I clicked the "recommended" list and got.. well... a whole bunch of famous people I really don't give a rats ass about... so, why would I want to read their twitter all day?



Considering opening a personal twitter too, but who would I share it with? I don't tell people online my name... if people in real life found it... eh.. I don't know anyone in real life that Twitters...



*shrugs*



Seems... limited. I dunno. Any advice from you experienced Twitterers?

It's good for companies that want to post links- for people that have projects going on and want to keep their friends updates (links), and for people to just be goofy. I do the goofy and regular/personal update thing. If you're one that doesn't want your online world to cross lines with the 'off' I think you can even adjust your settings for your real name to not appear.

...everyone here does realize how a scale of 1 to 10 works, right?



1 means something is terrible nor not even attempted.



Average would fall in the 5 or 6 range.



10 would be superior to all others... completely blows away expectations. Perfect or nearly so in every sense of the word.



Or... some similar vernacular. Like the Kinsey Scale... but on the Kinsey Scale the majority of profiles here would be considered almost exclusively homosexual... that doesn't really work in this case I guess.



What I'm saying is, when you sort all profiles and portfolios in rated highest to lowest order and you're more than 3/4 of the way down the list and the average rating is still higher than 9.5... something got seriously lost in the translation of what the numbers ACTUALLY mean....

Although one would expect a bell-curve with respect to ratings (if they were graphed), i think the reality is far from the truth.



We are either:

A. liars

B. biased

C. ambivalent

D. all of the above

No, you know what I think it is more than anything... too many people see it as a popularity contest. And WAY too many people take the attitude of "well, you gave me a 5? I'll give you a 1! Fuck you!" like an honest rate is some sort of personal insult.



It's a number... a meaningless number. But for fear of getting responses like that too many people just go and slap 10's on everything without even for a moment considering content, appropriateness or even the effort of the person who created the portfolio/profile/article.. whatever.



People don't want to feel threatened just for being honest, so they give everything a 10 to make their VR world a happier place...

When I first started on VR, there were less than a thousand profiles. When I got ratings of 1-5, I figured I had to work harder on my profile. So I did. I started getting 6 and 7's and was working harder still until I finally got my first 10. And dammit all I earned that 10.



Now, I feel no need to update my profile. I'm sure I could through in paragraphs about how dense most of the VR population is and STILL get a 10.

It's truly pathetic.



However, we can bitch about it till the ends of the earth but until someone gives us a "delete dumbass" button, we're stuck.

I usually rate between 5 and 10- all portfolios get a 10 from me if there is at least one picture there. But if there isn't anything on the profile or it sucks.. I will no doubt leave a 1 for them...



I don't care if I get 1's... meh *shrugs shoulders* it doesn't truly bother me... I am always working on my profile, so to always get a 10 I wonder just who actually reads the damned thing or just runs down the page to rate to level up.



Although the comments are what crack me up...

Revenge raters are the ones who keep me entertained mostly when I am bored.

It is amazing when a ray of light shines so brightly through the jungle of darkness here....



...no, I'm not talking about "the darkness" that so many want to portray as their life... not the evil, soul-sucking, wanna-be undead creatures of the night so many crave to be... to make them unique or feel like they have purpose...



...I'm talking about the real darkness. The ignorance that permeates the youth of today. The careless self-expression that becomes trite and meaningless as they conform so fully with the non-conformists...



Perhaps that is why the light shines so bright here when someone who doesn't fall into these ways joins this site.



I reach out to you... the lotus flowers growing out of the stinking muck that settles where gravity holds it. Those are the people that truly make this... or any other social networking site worthwhile. Too few, rare and precious to me.

...ok, the new avatar is up. I have to say Morri did an amazing job, as usual.



Seriously people... this woman is an ARTIST. The work she does with a camera, some studio lights (and in this case, a halogen shop light and desk lamp) and a little Photoshop work is incredible.



And I didn't even have to be drunk to let her put make-up on me. ;)

Oh yeah... and web site work - she did that whole site from scratch. No templates, no code purchased... she stays busy with a lot of other things and works on it when she can, so like most sites it is a living thing... always changing.



But I bet if you need photo work, photo editing or web site work done, she'd do a great job for you!
