I found this article today and wondered could a God be reincarnated?

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4549608&page=1

"Ask anyone along the dusty, pothole-filled road heading to the tiny village of Saini, and they'll know who she is. The one with four eyes. The one with two mouths. The one with two heads.

She was born on March 11 but still doesn't have a name. At first she was revered as a reincarnation of the God Ganesh, half person and half elephant. Locals came to the tiny village of Saini to touch her feet, dance around her and offer her family money.

They are not ashamed of the extraordinary looking little girl, the villagers who live near her, the young parents, the overprotective local doctor. That's because while she may only be 2½ weeks old, she is far more famous than any resident of this part of the country has ever been. She is famous because she was born with a condition known as facial duplication. She has one body and two faces. "

I read that article many months ago. Talking about a young child. I don't honestly think God's can be reborn again.

But then again people have their own beliefs.

Well, technically in Hinduism people don't die, they are just re-born. Vishnu (the creator) was reborn 10 times, first as Matsya, the fish. Then Kurma the turtle Varaha the boar... and so on. You can read about that at Wikipedia. Ganesh is a more difficult subject, because "Of the eight incarnations of Ganesha described in the Mudgala Purana, Ganesha has a mouse in five of them, uses a lion in his incarnation as Vakratunda, a peacock in his incarnation of Vikata, and Shesha, the divine serpent, in his incarnation as Vighnaraja. Of the four incarnations of Ganesha listed in the Ganesha Purana, Mohotkata has a lion, Mayūreśvara has a peacock, Dhumraketu has a horse, and Gajanana has a rat. Jain depictions of Ganesha show his vahana variously as a mouse, elephant, tortoise, ram, or peacock." (wikipedia) but he is the most known of the Hindu gods, as the remover of obstacles, or the god of wisdom. Classically portrayed as elephant, this god, vehicle or mode of transportation is a rat.

I have no idea, but I'm happy the child is looked upon kindly by those around her.

About a month ago there was a documentary about a child born in India who was worshiped by some as a god...she had four legs and arms.

The doctors were able to opperate and she survived.

The team of doctors who performed the operation were determined that they would do it themselves in their own country.

They did, and made good use of the money all the attention created.

definitely interesting.

i hope this little girl can survive
very different the views of her family and villagers in contrast to what people in other lands would think.

as far as a god/goddess reborn, as stated above the Hindu religion supports that

my only concern is how the child will be treated if this condition repeats it self, as i watched a show that worshiped any baby being born in breach till the next case then the child is tossed over a cliff so that the next child can rule...i can not remember the culture that practiced this, but should any anomoli happen somewhere people tag it in exstremes of being good or bad

1. the belief that the soul, upon death of the body, comes back to earth in another body or form.
2. rebirth of the soul in a new body.
3. a new incarnation or embodiment, as of a person.

The last two work.

I think the question is a little out of the league of most people. Who can really say with any certainty what a god is or isn't capable of? Thats just how I see it anyway.

Hindu Gods and Goddesses all have different aspects, many have multiple limbs, especially arms. Ganesh is an elephant headed divinity, and is associated with good fortune. It is common for children to be seen as incarnations of divinities, especially those who have physical anomalies.

Here is where spiritualism comes into play.

Since a "god" is that of omnipresence, omnipotence or whatever, then that "god" would not be "born" in the first place.

How can a "god" be born human, die, then be welcomed as a "god" once more? This makes little sense.

Then again, the Egyptian "gods", were human at one time, they had ancient king or god making ceremonies that led their people believe they had ascended into a god-like status.

This could happen in any culture I would imagine.

As for the Ganesh reincarnation? I see no resemblance for the allegory to take effect. Save for the four eyes. But this is just me.

Society might think of anything in order to enertain themselves if a change is truly needed within their lives, physically, mentally as well as spiritually just as with the case of the Ganesh incarnate speculation.

It's all in what you believe. All belief systems have different hypothesis of this subject.

My Belief is that a god is a supernatural force that resides in the astral world and was never a living being. Therefore it cannot take on any form in the natural world.

To answer your question JackOfSpades, no one can know what god(s) is/are capable of, or even if he exists. Somethings can be explained by science other cannot, but just because they can, doesn't mean they should or should not.
That didn't make much sense, but if anyone has any questions about this message me I'll be glad to explain this to the best of my ability.

Like so many of our general threads, it's true that the answers are in the form of a personal belief or opinion and not a matter of fact or record. If we ended them all just because there is no accepted answer, this forum would be much much less used.

I'll simply weigh in to say that a god is usually considered an eternal of some kind. So long as there is belief in them, they live. In this way they can never die but could wax and wane in strength. I'd call that the Neil Gaiman law of gods :) There have been myths throughout history of a deity or god being born into humanity through it's own choice. In fact, many christian religions suggest that their Jesus was in fact a celestial being who chose to be born so that he could die for mankind.

are gods merely what humans define them as? which human has the special right to know the one true definition of a god? a god is a divine being - that's about all we can say really. many Eastern cultures believe that emperors and kings are living gods. to ridicule such beliefs whilst retaining beliefs of our own would be hubris.

No a human cannot define a single god, but then again all gods are different. If there were one god, then everybody would either be for against this god, and that wouldn't work.

That's not entirely true, pretty much all cultures have somebody who tries to be a god or god-like, not just eastern culture.

Why would a goddess be reborn only to die or live a restricted life?

Going back to the original case, I found this news update on msn.

It gives the name of the medical condition and a little more personal detail.

A baby born with two faces in an Indian village is being hailed as a Hindu goddess.

Lali was born with a very rare condition called craniofacial duplication which means she has one head but has two identical faces merged together.

The little girl has two noses, two pairs of lips and four eyes. The only facial feature that has not been duplicated are her ears.

Despite the condition often being linked to other serious health complications, Lali's father Vinod Singh, 23, said his daughter was fine "like any other child".

Hospital officials said Lali could use both mouths and she opened and shut both pair of her eyes at the same time.

Lali has attracted intense attention, with hundreds of people flocking to the dusty village of Saini Sunpura to catch a glimpse of her unique features.

Rural India is deeply superstitious and the little girl is being worshipped as the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess of valour, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.

Visitors have been touching Lali's feet out of respect and offering money in a bid to receive blessings.

Village chief Daulat Ram said he planned to build a temple to Durga in the village and ask the government for money to help with Lali's care.

Lali's parents were married in February 2007. Lali is their first child.

How can you be so sure, Rosho?
I read the entire article... she was born with a rare condition, and unless the parents let doctors further examine her, there is no way to know whether or not she may need immediate medical treatment to prevent brain damage or other problems that she would otherwise have to deal with throughout her life and that might possibly cause it to run short.

I wouldn't see why a God could not reincarnated. I read this article today in our local newspaper, it was very interesting, they had a picture of the little girl. She looked so cute.

I believe India has had other children born recently that they claim are reincarnated Gods too.

The reincarnations of hindu gods are named "avatars" in the occidental literature. They are nor a reincarnation in the proper sense of the word but more like the immortal essence of gods manifest itself in a form. The gods don`t "live" and don`t "die" although they appear sometimes in the form of human baings. If you will read Mahabharata, you`ll knew what I am speking about.

The artistic representation of the oriental gods with multiple faces or body parts is a metaphor for a magic or spiritual essential attribute of the god.Budha with the long ears symbolizes the ubicuity and superior knowledge of the god as the oriental elders shown, not a particularity of Budha`s real face. Some people see the christian God like a bearded old man, isn`t it?

Great post, but let's just stick to original word, reincarnation, and don't think I'm not taking your post into consideration, but it's usually just easier to call it the original so that people will be less confused. I've also read the Mahabharata 3 times, and the many different version of the Ramayana several times. They both very interesting reads. I also agree with your post on Buddha, and Jesus, but also Rama of the Ramayana, had blue skin traditional of Hindu gods...

Also, I'm sure that she will be okay... Well, because I'm born-Hindu not that I follow that path now, but I do not believe anything will happen to her, just because of my own experiences with Hinduism, and it's religious fanaticism.

If you had actually read all messages, instead of thinking about your posting scores, you would know that gods maybe can or cannot die, but this isn't reincarnation on a level of dying, this is more of an avatar type thing.

No. I don't believe a God can be reincarnated. If a god is already immortal there would be no need to do so.

I believe that in the christian religion, the god himself was not reincarnated. Jesus was simply a product of that god. I don't think he was meant to be the incarnation of a deity.

Sinora, beat me to it!

Depending on the place born, an infant that is different, depending on the birth defect or birthmark, conditions, being born at the right time of the year month day time - can be hailed as someone from the gods, or a prophecy come to pass..

Are they, or just a coincidence?

Firstly I am relieved that they are being kind to this child but wonder what will happen to her when she may not fulfill their idea of a God...

Since I do not believe in reincarnation I would have to say no. But I have to say that I do not believe either that Jesus was "reincarnated" as he was never on this earth to begin with before he was born to Mary and Joseph.

I am thankful that places like this exist. In many other places around the world the baby would be aborted, or killed; both the baby and the family would be condemned as a curse or ostracized.

Here in this village, the baby and the family is celebrated and well cared for.

If one cannot believe that a god was reincarnated in this place, then certainly one must see that at the very least some great good was done here.

I actually think its possible for a god to die. Some of old stories of gods dying are around, so its possible for them to be re-incarnated.

Well my thinking would be that the Gods created our soul and started us upon this journey. So why can't they reincarnate themselves and join us from time to time.

I can't help but think Gods can do whatever they please and if they wish to reincarnate part of themselves then they can.

I do not think that this kid is a god re-born. Just a poor deformed child. I'm surprised that it was not killed at birth. Or that it was born at all.

If a 'god' fought a 'god' one of them would lose. So a god could die if it were defeated by another.

Going to the eygptian mythos, many of the gods died and had to pass through and be judged by Ammut (Spelling?). I think back when people (I mean the world in general) were more spiritual, the gods (a general term) walked among them in order to accomplish many things (greek mythos and Zeus). In babylon, the entire mythos is filled with gods killing and being killed. So if gods can die, why not be reborn like the souls of people.

Although I was brought up Catholic to believe that when God died his spirit came known that he was reborn on Christmas day thats why most people celebrate the rebirth of God but some people who don't believe in that believe in the actual materlistic giving of christmas day. I could be wrong so can someone clarify that with me without being so harsh. Thank You!!
