Are you tired of the same old same old in vampire films? I thought 30 Days of Night was a refreshing change of pace. It took us to Alaska during a fictional vampire's free for all.
What would you like to see that you haven't? Give us a setting that would break the mold.
That is exactly why I loved 30 Days Of Night when so many others haven't, it seemed to take them back to the core animal sense of the vampire rather than the romantic type.
I would love to see it torn down to just pure instincts of the vampires will to survive, how they use their "powers" to achieve this and tear away most of the human qualities given them and instead bring out the animal.
I really like 30 Days of Night as well. It was a different type of vampire movie compared to all the lovey dovey vampire films you see today.
To see a vampire movie that depicts them as the creatures of the night that they are would be a nice change of pace. To see how they actual survive in the night without the love fest going on.
Just something that is all together different from the usual vampire action horror flicks. I'd much like to see, say, a vampire romance movie or a comedy.
We have a ton of Vampire romance... and actually a ton of vampire comedy. Think of 'Fright Night' and 'Once Bitten' to name two. There's a bunch more.
I've never heard of either of them. But most of the 'vampire' movies I know of that have romance in them also are majorly horror or action
I would like to see more "animalistic" behavior while feeding. And I would love to see a vampire film in a jungle setting.
I don't mind a little romance or comedy in a serious story line either.
I would like to see something that -really- captivates me, enthralls me. I want to see something that shows not only the human side but the animal side of the vampire.
I really enjoyed 30 days of night, it as you said took us there...
I would like to see more Creature of the night and the survival of the vampire as they really need to be at times Blood thirsty LOL or even one that tells a story of how one has to live in order to survive the centuries of feeding and dealing with us mere humans LOl
Great Topic thread...
"30 Days Of Night"
It`s not a vampire movie but an action movie.
Take the vampires and just imagine them as cold blood killers, it`s very easy, maybe too easy...
I just wonder why so many action movies use and abuse the vampire subject.... I think this is vampiric act too...
;))
The vampire is not only about blood and hunt and not about silly "romance"...it`s one of the greatest literary (and artistic) motive of The Romantism so it should be depicted in a romantic manner.Just look at Coppola`s movie.
;)
you could show a movie like world war III after we nuke each other and blacken out the sun wouldn't that be a world for the Vampires to move freely to where ever life still existed.
I would like to see one where the vampire wins for once. None of this, feeling guilty for what they've done, or having someone turn around and stake them in the back. Vampires need to take their rightful place at the head of the food chain and I for one will gladly bow to our new vampire overlords!!!
well yes most stories do have a plot that is almost the same but face it theres not much we can change of vampire movies since we know there will be feeding, neckbiting and of course a bit of mystery how i see it the only changes that could be made would be the location of their inhabitants.
if i were to make a suggestion it would be to have a movie on psi vampires that feed on energy rather than the sang vampires, then who knows there might be some creativity that would not be so stale.
I think that if Tim Burton did a vampire movie it would be a nice change of pace.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a movie based off not just the typical vampire. It would be awesome to see like a mother turn into one and go after their child all animal like.
_I think a vampire movie that showed the animalistic side of the creature would be a nice change of pace. You all are right...too many "romantic" movies have been made. A nice change of pace would be not just showing the "typical" vampire, but to bring in a different form of vampire would be awesome. The Dark mysterious person who feeds off blood, walks the night in a cape, and regrets their actions is way to cliche. Anything different than that would work._
30 Days of Night is great because it was based on the Graphic Novel and not some fluff novel making the lead Vampire a troubled vampire that has regrets for being who he is.Graphic Novels turned movie is great...they have no limits, they puch the bounds of film making...but the movie could have been more like the story in the graphic novel...yet at the same rime...they can only put so much on film.
Ok how about this vampire gangs fighting against each other in post appocalyptic times and the reason they are trying to kill each other is because the human race is slowly dissapearing
I thought 30 Days of Night was crap, but each to their own.
I would like to see more of Anne Rice's work put on film.
I don't think we have anything really new these days, they are just re-vamps (great pun) but with a new title.
We seem to want to involve ourself with sensationalism but when we see it, it looks comical.
The thing I liked about 30 Days of Night was the ending. If you haven't seen it, I won't spoil it, but I thought the leading actor's character was incredibly brave, if the scenario was a bit unbelievable -- and the very end was sweet. But then...I like the romantic stuff. :)
Having said that...I'd like to see a movie about a modern-day person who is being a solitary vampire -- but the vampirism not as the center of the movie -- just a characteristic of this person. S/he could be a regular person, going along, living life, and then WHAMMO, she's (maybe accidentally) turned, but has to figure out all that in the process of a regular job, suddenly having to take the night shift...and telling her boyfriend...or something like that. Maybe someone trying to accomplish the "Great Thing" of their life, and the vampirism being yet another obstacle to overcome. Just some thoughts....
I would like to see a Vampire Movie that was actually based in Count Dracula's castle
a cool futoric vampire movie . example a war with advanced weapons etc etc
Yes, even a Vampire Movie set in the future would be a thrill but I think if it were then Vampires would be so advanced they might even get out into the sunlight and survive! Everything evolves.
I would love to see a movie with todays graphics in the world of author Brian Lumley. Anyone know his work? It's so imaginative, necromancy and dragons, fabulous read to anyone liking some control and cruelty as well as as sex. I think it would be unique to the vampire genre.
I think the best way is the classics, nothing beats them
Tim Burton and a vampire movie... right on! I'd love to see that too :)
A vampire movie that deals with the everyday life of a fictional vampire in modern times. How can they exist without evidence. How would they feed, where do they get their money, how do they deal with immortality.
If a vampire wasn't indipendently wealthy or perhaps lost it all in the stock market, they would have to get a job working the night shift.
10241024, we've had that haven't we? Most popular films show the vampire in the 'now'. at least that's what I see.
That actually sounds like it could be either 'Interview with a Vampire', 'Queen of the Damned' or the 'Twilight' movie which is coming out.
i would like to see what a humans family would do when they found out their child was a realy life vampire. something like u would see on jerry springer show
ha, well they have had that on Jerry :P Just wasn't real. No one will ever convince me of it anyway :)
I'm not too sure that there isn't a setting about vampires that hasn't been covered.......
From the very first Dracula, to Bram's remake, to Once Bitten, to Innocent Blood, to The Breed, to Interview with the Vampire, to Underworld, to Perfect Creature, and even 30 Days of Night.
I just can't imagine what other setting Hollywood can set up for us. *shrugs*
Have we seen vampires in the jungle... some ancient tribe that hasn't been 'Westernized'?
That's a good question. I'm not too sure about a "jungle" setting, I'll have to research.
One movie I forgot to mention was Dracula 3000, which, if I can remember right, put the setting in space. So that's been done also.
Blood Suckers ...set in the Amazon Rain forest...Casper Van Dean is the lead...it was crap.
That kind of sounds like 'Skin Eating Jungle Vampires' in a way.
Yes, they do show them in the now, but only in a fatasy way. They live in a big house with no visible means of support and run around killing people leaving dead bodies but not getting caught.
What about a vampire, since he has no job skills, working as a janitor on the night shift, living in low rent apartment downtown, no friends, waning for the glory days from 500 years ago. How does he feed without evidence of dead bodies. Does he need to find willing donors? How much could he possible take out one person at a time and expect them to live, a pint? is that enough.
Does he have relationships with other vampires, are they all in the same boat.
I guess I'm talking about a fictional character placed in the real world, dealing with real things.
That actually doesn't sound too bad...I wouldn't think it'd be a major hit, but it would have merit all its own. And it seems like the only ending for that kind of movie is for the vampire in question to find a way to off himself...there's certainly no place in the real world for a fictional vampire who is not incredibly rich or particularly suave. I think it'd be almost a comedy/tragedy of sorts...or like Death of a Salesman.
Huh, now I'm all, inspired-like. I might have to chop out something like that. Thanks, guy. :)
Many excellently creative ideas. :) How about a vampire in the past in an Arabian Nights type setting? I do not think the two ideas have been merged, yet.
I agree changing the setting of a story such as that gives us some variations that are needed. We need to switch it up a little
well I thougth "Interview with a vampire" was a change of scenery, plot, and story
Abaddon...I remember Dracula 3000. I thought that was the WORST vampire movie EVER. LOL But I have to watch them all, ya know, just to see. :) I think a well-done vampire movie set in space would be cool. Or invading earth. Maybe a vampire War of the Worlds theme. LOL They could be sort of reptilian in order to survive cold, and come from some far-away planet with no sun. That would cover the whole "how would life evolve on other worlds" concept, and have unique vampires. It would have to be thought out thorougly, though. Badly done, it would be total crap.
How about a vampire psychologist, who puts his patients under hypnosis and drains them then? Perfect time to do it.
yeah 30 days was awesome and very different. Id like to see one like that but that they won and showed how the world took the loss. Like vampires ruling the world kind of thing. Theyre always killed.
I hanent seen 30 days of night but I think I will have to go get it
The vamp psychologist is a cool idea, although hypnosis doesn't really work that way; the hypnotized person is fully aware of her/his surroundings the whole time. Maybe the person could be kept as a "pet" for a time, then their memories of the events could be forcibly repressed....
I agree.
30 days of night is an awesome movie.
I really like how they are perceived in it.
"30 Days Of Night"
I liked the movie did not see them as vampires they seemed to stupid. I like to see a smart vmapire who wins movie
i thought was a good movie.. was prob one of the best ive seen in a long time captiavating what they wanted to be seen and what not.
I agree, 30 days of night broke out of the romantic setting started with interview with a vampire.
I would like to see films going back to the scary, hunter vampire, one that kills for pleasure and need for blood. Bring back the old nosteratu films lol.
Hmm how about a film on Alien Vampires that come to suck the earth dry and farm humans as a food source :D
A Tim Burton vampire film (as abstract said) would be interesting. I like how most vampire films are though. I loved movies like Queen of the Damned and Interview with the Vampire. I like that vampires are portrayed as having both a human side and a more animalistic side. I also like vampires being romanticized. I'm not sure I want to see any of this changed really.
TrainDiskenth, they did seem like stupid vampires... but it took me back to the classic legendary vampire that didn't seem to really have a lot of brains to begin with. We seemed to have found lots of easy ways as humans to spot them out and off with their heads.
Meridiana, anything works in the movies :P
Id like to see a movie where Vampire that you find here on the Vampire rave are just living there daily live in a everyday place.... that may sound boring.....obviously something interesting should happen so its not a documentary but it would make a refreshing point of view on vampires.
have any of you seenthe vampire secrets it takes place in new york in some of the vampire clubs and they realy go into detail about thier activities very interesting i thought
I liked the movie 30 days of night. It was completly different from the one's that are in the other movies. I mean these guys were brutal and unrelenting. I'd like to see more Vampires in movies like that..Harsh killers that see human's only as food and not love interest. Or going against their own kind to save the world.

I believe there are a lot of vampire settings that do that. ;]
Any setting will do for me as long as the 'vampire element' of the plot is well established and not lost in flashy action sequences which is how most vampire movies have become these days.
you know i am tired of all of the new horror that is comming out. The vampire and zombies then there are the other slasher films. Today all horror films are based around is to see how freaking bloody and gross they can be. I don't really like watching movies that have absolutely no point to them whatsoever. I would like to have it go back to surviving or more to the point the whole story. Not just oh look a vampire they kill and then thats the end.
Being from Alaska and having been to Barrow, while it was a great movie... there are plenty already up there doing their own thing... Being a very primal yet romantic person myself... I think it is hard to say what would make a good movie for me... I want the vampire to be better faster and stronger, but there is always something or someone out there bigger, better, faster amd stronger out there... while I could probably come up with a good porn... thats about the extent of my movie ideas... lol seriously though, while showing the primal animal part of vampires it is nice also to have that romantic part as to say, even movies that have stuck with the primal side more have had hints and flashes of the romantic or human side. And vice Versa.
I go beyond what most imagine 'romanticized vampires' to be. They have to be more than leather-clad creatures of the night waving guns and jumping off buildings. Many vampire movies now have vampires that seem more like action heroes than the philosophical beings that I prefer them to be. I mean, they have an eternity to themselves, wouldn't they feel plagued about their lonely, never-ending existence? Interview with the Vampire and the Hunger are good examples of my preference. I don’t really mind the earlier ‘undead’ version of the creatures, either. I only hope producers and writers come up with more interesting and original twists.
i think i would like to see a vampire movie that didnt have the blood guts and glory of the hunt but more of how they unlive their death
i would also like to see it broken down to the blunt animal state of existance the fight for servival and how we truely make the humans believe we do not exist.
i'd like to see a movie citing the history of the vampire and how early vampire cultures existed.
Ive never seen 30 days but heard beautiful reviews of it.And with the new lost boys movie coming out which I think since the original characters will be in it at least some of them will be nice.
Most vampire films are completely over worked, also has been made way too complex
They need to go back to simple,
A movie maybe based in the early 80's or 90's when thigns vampire related was just getting that big boost, perhaps dealing with some form of murder mystery tour.Where people are actually turning up dead and no one know's whats doing it.Throw in a lack of the typical horror movie rules.Such as any drugs or sexual acts will mean they die. Or that kid went to the basement so he is dead. These movies are highly predictable and Im sure some randomness would be appreciated by all.

Isn't that the way a horror movie is, though? It's made to scare the viewers.
There aren't many vampire films I have seen where, 'they just kill and that's the end'. If you're having a problem with that, we can point you in the direction of tons of vampire films with plots.
I think it would be interesting to see a movie about the mythical monster, as in the souless being that seeks out it's friends and family only to drain their souls away slowly. Think the ring but more about the previous connection the vampire had with life.
How about a decent vampire film were evil actually wins? Or the villian doesnt lose hands down.
Ditto Sahahria...that would be an excellent idea for a vamp flick.
Personally I was thinking vampire porn...but I'll get past it.
Vampire porn....
*Thinks*
Now there's a gap in the market >.>
Any volunteers?
hm something like Lord of the Rings only involving vampires battling with humans and other things magically in an all out war on earth and like, having all the planes (astral and whatnot) colliding together in one massive quest to see who the next generation species would rule the world. ^^
I loved the 30 Days of Night movie. Here is my vision of something new go way back in time to an area where vampyres was ruled and fear by all native tribes and look to them as kings or gods through their eyes. or have them live in an underground city beneath the earthand they finally break threw to the new world which they have no knowledge of until now. Or have a race of many different kindred live on a hidden island where no man has gone to before. Those are just a few of my ideas and thoughts.
I would love to see a movie on how the vampires came to be not that bullshit love story Bram Stroker has with Dracula and stuff but the true story.
I still like the romantic vampire, so I'll take more of that. With that being said, I'd like to see or read about some futuristic cyborg vamps, kinda' like the Borgs form Star Trek. When they assimilate you, they just drain you dry.
yeah i would love to see what future vampires would be like. I mean would they have feeding machines so they wouldn't have to kill humans anymore
I loved 30 days of night as well.
A good setting would be to move away from the big cities and into the suburbs or the small town on the country side where simple people live simple lives and then let it build from there.
I want the vampires to be more animalistic, to enjoy the killing instead of this sappy "ohh no I am a vampire I must kill to survive so now I cry myself to sleep over lost love" thing.
I still think the idea of letting the local children suspect it and try to convince the adults. Maybe even add a child vampire with psychotic tendensies.
just some suggestions.
Perhaps a movie showing the true pain a vampire experiences, the gains of his everlasting life as well as the pain and distress he must over come to survive, throw in a hunter, that begins to understand and repsect that which she hunts, a good setting weather it be in the city ir in a rural town, but give us a better understanding of the true vampire, the vampire that feels each victims pain, as he drains their life to live.
I'd love to see more of Ann Ric's work put on screen .. if only Hollywood would get it right ...
Perhaps vampires duing the time where the gods rules Egypt.
I would like to see a vampire flick where the story is centered around the vampire as the hero. I want to see how the world would co exist with vampires in a peaceful manner.
I'd like to see Tim Burton do a vampire movie, maybe set in the present day but make it into something which everyone can relate to. Something that will delve into modern day vampires.
What about vampires in space?
This time have it vampires versus aliens instead of vampires versus werewolfs.
:)
I was just going to say vampires in space. lol How about a vampire that tries to fit in with everyday humans but struggles with his vampiric nature.
there's a helluva concept.
I'm trying to imagine a vampiric used car salesman...
too easy to imagine...let me think about an attorney.
Crap.
I would like to see a movie based on the vampires operating in the shadows of the ancient Greek city-states with Egypt and the Hebrew tribes by the Mediterranean Sea. The vampires of 3000 BC who created the Phaistos Disc and Belzeit Tablet.
I can't help it either, Anne Rice is my favorite one that I feel already broke the mold. More from her would be magnificant on film.
That's why I like Twilight, the movie comes out in December. It shows vampires in a fresh new light.
I would want to see something of truth and reality not what you get in fictional grab that you would see in movies or read in books

HollowXangel, the 'true' vampire? That's totally subjective.
If you are breaking away from the glorious legend and fiction- to me, the true vampire is the everyday human.
A film set in an older time period, say, 2000 to 3000 BC. in or around the Middle East. Suggestive of the earlier days or beginnings of vampirism, even though the beginning of vampirism probably predates even that time period.
'I am legend' was a good film I thought that was different.
I would like to know where vampires come from though. They always seem to just appear in films from nowhere
Vampires in space .. I'd agree, that would be rad to see. ;]
How about a vampire movie where they actually are fierce and scary...wait a minute...30 Days of Night too care of that...okay...so how about a vampire movie where the vampires have to endure a survival situation, something far fetched like, lost in the amazon or something along those lines...something creative.
A vampire movie, with the vampire (family) as the main characters. Most films are about people whoget attacked by vampires (not being the main character)
I hated 30 Days of Night. The acting performances were subpar, the dialogue fell flat more often than not, the action sequences were cliché and the ending had me rolling my eyes. Then again, I dislike just about every vampire movie I’ve ever seen. I didn’t care for Interview with a Vampire, the Blade trilogy or the Underworld movies either – even the Dracula movies were bland and boring. The only good film I can recall is the timeless classic Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens.
I don’t think there should be a new setting for vampires; I think the vampires themselves should change. Personally I deeply detest the cliché vampire that is a sophisticated, tragic, aristocratic and misunderstood lover of classical music and literature. To me a vampire is a ruthless, sadistic killer and not some bad poet. Brian Lumley created the ultimate vampire in his Necroscope books: pure evil psychopaths.
That reminds me of another decent vampire movie: Cronos. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about it or even hate it, but I think it’s a good different angle about vampirism. It portrays the miserable, depraved struggle of a fresh vampire.
more action, take it down to the base insticts, show vampires in their world not ours.
I THINK THE BRIAN LUMLEY VISION OF THE VAMPIRE AS THE ULTIMATE, BESTIAL PARASITIC PREDATOR WOULD MAKE A GREAT MOVIE. FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH HIS WORK, THINK THE THING MEETS 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, AND WHAT MAKES THEM SO MONSTROUS IS THAT ALL THEIR WORST TRAITS ARE HUMAN ONES , AMPLIFIED. BUT, THAT'S JUST ME...
