Just watching demon exorcism on you tube.
Why does the devil always talk in Latin?
The poor mouth foaming people are shouting Latin all the time?
Im sure if the devil was real he is from much older times and has a good vocabulary after all how else would it con you out of your soul if it didn’t speak your language?
im thinking I smell a rat and it’s not Satan’s bottom lol
Does speaking Latin give ground to the claim the person is possessed and not mad or a joke gone to far?
Let me know what you think
It's because most exorcisms are carried out by the Catholic Church and the official language of the Church is Latin :)
Spirits will always speak the language the person(s) is speaking.
As for movies it's just for effects sake.
Yes …. I gathered the Latin part lol im shocked Catholics perform the majority of exorcisms ….
Iv not seen a recorded exorcism that doesn’t look like it’s bad acting from the film exorcist or a true mentally unstable person.
Keeping this on topic, I have witnessed possession rituals and mediums…. They don’t speak Latin ?
It is also said that the victims "speak in tongues" during exorcisms.
"Glossolalia (from Greek γλωσσολαλιά and that from γλῶσσα - glossa "tongue, language" and λαλεῖν (lalein) "to talk") is the vocalizing of fluent speech-like but unintelligible utterances, often as part of religious practice. Its use (including use in this article) sometimes also embraces Xenoglossy - speaking in a natural language that was previously unknown to and that is not understood by the speaker." - taken from Wikipedia.
Interesting isn’t that linked with being glossolalia Christian and a sign your blessed not cursed?
It’s also once again a dead language and im sure the devil would want to communicate to offend all n not just those who know a dead language?
Speaking in Tongues can be a sign of both curssed and blessed. The reason why many think it's a sign of being possesed is simply out of a lack of understanding.
We try very hard not to film exorcisms because the entities can actually attach themselves to the film and because it's not safe for more than the involved parties to be in the room.
They will remain there until they either find a new human host or to simply cause problems with the camers etc and/or hauntings.
Wonder how that works?
Is it along the lines of cameras were believed to steal souls?
… if they do then demons have souls?
Hey I know you don't believe this stuff but you started the thread! lol
No it work because if the demon isn't exorcised properly or is to strong it will find the nearest person/ object it's able to enter. They want to stay in this realm at all costs but at the same time can't stop being what they are.
Cant stop being what they are? Which is Latin foul mouthed spitting beings….. lol
Just a thought, why blow your cover if you want to stay on this side of reality?
Haha lol like I said the Latin part is just Hollywood.
It's not a matter of blowing it's cover. The only reason they come here is to cause chaos in some form or the other. There are many rules they after follow (kind of an "Ethics of Evil") lol
Lol …. Hell if they didn’t follow the guidelines of possession they might even rule the world by now
Maybe it is the Devils original language and he reverts back to it when he is angry lol
i completly agree with xzaviers first statement.. lots of incatations are in latin as well
If you are interested in exorcisms you must read a book by father Malarchi, it was written in the 1970 s, I can not remember the name, do have to search for it. He was an official diocese exorcist in the book he relates a few of the exorcism he performed. As to the language, the demon also will speak in any language the person next to it understands.
I think it possible that "deamons" or "The Devil" or "Evil Spirits" can posses a person. I do not think that an inanimate object can be "possesed".
The use of Latin by the possesing entity as evidenced in doccumented exorcisms is likely due to Latin being the language used by the exorcist. The possesing entity will attempt to communicate in whatever language is understood by those interfering with it's intentions. If there were an Englishman, a German and an Iranian in the room the entity would be "speaking" English, German and Farsi instead of latin.
Most likely, it isn't the Devil. Most demons claim to be Lucifer when in fact, they are not. I was stalked by a demon as a child. For a time, he claimed to be the Devil also. That was until he was forced to give his true name.
The movies will make the effect of another language like latin just for the sake of the movie. I would say the devil can speak any language
interesting thread.. i saw a excorisim on like history chanel once and the girl who was demon possesed made it through the "healing" and after it was filmed like 10 years later did a follow it was VERY convincing and I belive the whole ordeal was real and happened as they showed it to be...
Watching an exorcism, whether you believe it or not is so impressive. But it would sound like Hollywood to make the victim speak in Latin just for the added effect of freaking out the viewer.
I'm sure there is a reason for the Latin, perhaps even if only to make us doubt he exists, after all Satins greatest trick was making man kind wonder if he even lives.
I have often wondered that too, why not Aramaic? *hope I spelt that right*
or ancient Hindi?
latin was one of the first known languages for that sort of thing dateing way back. scotish irish englesh and outher contries spoke it..........
i think talking in latin has something to do with the fact that latin is a very old language and it's been associated with rituals for years.
Because the priest need to appear to be speaking with the devil it is theatrics, more ventiquisism. Dr. Fodor Nandor has some good writing on this as well.
I will buy the book lol
Just so I can have a good debate with you lol
demon exorcisms nowadays are all about the foaming mouth and shouting in latin. i think it's mainly for theatrics.
I always think of those damn movies when I hear about an exorcism lol...stupid.
Latin is hard to learn and mostly seen as the devils talk. Not a lot of people know Latin. Also you can here them talking back words as well, or in two to three different voices at once, calling out different names.
Ever see a venttiquist act, they can have a dummy in the trunk talking to a dummy on their hand while a third dummy interups all the time speaking the main part. Sensationalism... most excersist propmpt their charges with cues.I have seen more bogus videos (edited on the sly) then I have seen ivastgation grade video.(unedited) after a "two day' exorcism theyonly produce 5 and a half hours?
Latin isn't the "Devils" talk at all... It's the Holy language
Latin is just a language. It was spoken by the Romans 2000 years ago and, like many languages as evolved into modern romance languages such as Italian, French and Spanish.
The Church used Latin as a form of communication between the various peoples that spoke a variety of languages. Today, English provides that function. You can find English speakers all over the world and it is taught at a young age in many countries. Basically the universal language. French at one time was like that, and before French, Latin.
Perhaps some day English will be seen as the an ancient language and be used in horror movies.
Xzavier, are you saying that you take part in exorcisms?
It would be interesting to hear more about your experiences.
well i don't like the hollywood verison of exorcisms. i've been present during an exorcism and yeah the guy talked in latin but he was ancient and when he got into the exorcism business latin was what they used so I guess he used it mostly for old time's sake. and no, he didn't salivate excessivelly.
Interestingly, Africans did not perform their exorcisms in Latin, but they did have their own rites that were performed by village priests and priestesses.
In China, Mongolia, Asia Major or Minor spoke Latin to perform any exorcisms of their own cultures demons. So, does it even bear relevance that a demon (or an angel) is a polyglot? Is heaven and hell segregated by something as trivial as language? I always believed, no matter where we ended up, the one thing we would transcend is any language barrier. Just a thought.
Just because you speak latin does not mean that you are possessed. I think it is for the effect sake.
I have not seen an exorsism ritual myself so I am not sure that latin is present in all cases.
Anyways, I do not belive in exorcism and from what I have read, the rituals can be quite brutal.
the devil is very real and if you get the devil in side you its nothing to mess with did anyone the the movie the exorcim of emily rose that was based on actul events that really happened to her
i think that the modern look for exorcisms are due to hollywood and the need to sell movies. people want to be entertained and they'd rather believe fantastical stories than something more close to the actual truth.
Sensationalism is rampant in the exorcism racket. They have out lawed it in the faith , only to appeal it after those that benefit from such claims, convince enough people to "perform'.
I think it's because Latin was a well spoken language around the time of the 'Lucifer falling from grace' period in time.
speaking in latin is because of the catholic church. . satan fell from grace well before their was actually a language on earth. . . its for effects
Maybe Latin is the choice becuse other languages are rooted in it and there is a higher probility of more people understanding it. I had never though about it before.
i find it varies on the type of possession.
Sometimes they speak Sumerian, sometimes they speak Hebrew, sometimes they speak in German or French, sometimes they speak in English.
The language is not important, what is important is that the entity is understood. If one forces it to speak of its own accord in a language the possessed could not possibly know, then it does help to establish the credibility of the possession to "prove" another intelligence has taken hold within the body.
Then proceeding to do this, since Latin is the official language of the Catholic church, it becomes the easiest means of removal of said spirit when it responds in languages spoken to it.
For my own uses in such things I get the possessed to discuss with me things that the individual has no way of knowing, to show me the nature of their intelligence to be able to force it out of the body and go back to where the thing came from.
Ventiliquist Priest, projecting at the "possessed" person.
We did a gnostic excorcism (golden-dawn style) once for a friend.
Whether they are just offshoots of the psyche or real 'demons', damn things are scary.
Language is not a barrier either, as the 'posessed' was not fluent in anything but English whereas the 'demon' spouted off in Russian and Hebrew no problem.
UGH! Come on people. Latin, English etc... are all languages we use. The demons will speak whatever language they're spoken to. You forget that Satan and Demons know almost as much as God, what language is used has no bearing on whats actually going on. "Are they polyglots?" Yes in the sense that they can speak any of mans languages, did they have to be taught no.
Theres a reason movies are movies, Keanu Reeves didn't have to speak latin.~fiction~
I forgot who asked it but "Have I been involved with Exorcisms before?" Yes, several dozen. From casting out demons from individuals to removing ghosts from houses and battle fields. It's a very interesting practice to say the least and rather dangerous as well.

im not sure. but latin is the primary of the catholic church so i imagine that.
Yes, The Exorcism of Emily Rose is supposed to be based on a true story of events that happened to her.
I've seen all those movies ,,,, don't believe any of it's all hollywood ..
and theatrics complete with ventiliquist and cues and role playing.
No the Church still practices exorcism. Todays process is very rigid and to be "exorcised" you must meet many requirements.
Really Xzavier ??? to be exorcised you need to meet many requirements?
Like fluent in Latin and puling pee soup? Lol
Lav, have a conversation for once.
It has to proven that the person(s) are possessed. And meet a number criteria such as speaking in tongues, fear of the Church/Cross, abnormal behaviour, strange fascination with the dark arts and so on.
You go to your local parish Priest and he will turn it over to a Bishop. The Bishop will meet with the persons involved and then take his findings back to a special meeting.
It can take up wards of 6 months for someone to be deemed "possessed."
With me the process may last a week at most. I try and help the family as soon as possible.
Well xza as you seem to be the expert in this exorcism act.
May I ask you a question?
You say it takes about a week to remove a demon?
How do you know it has gone? And how did it get in in the first place?
It takes a week to verify IF the person or thing is possessed. After the verification the exorcism can begin. An actual exorcism can take anywhere from a few minutes to months.
For a person after the exorcism their eyes lighten up, they act almost dazed but happy. Sometimes the person will throw up and the vomit will move ( yes I'm serious). The energy of the person and room will lighten up also.
Other times you can see the demon leave as well.
In general you know if it was successful or not.
Im interested as iv personally tried to summon such beings ….. never anything I could call demon, the ones you have seen do they look like classic demon images or energy or what do you see?
Well summoning beings and exorcising are 2 rather different things. Although possession may occur after a summoning.
When they are cast out they take 2 main forms:
1) semitransparent beings, you can see the eyes, arms etc.
2) is more a dark cloud, in my experience this is the most common type. Many type 2 entities also have a scent from lemons to rotted flesh and even sweet smells.
Interesting …. Iv managed to do work with shadow beings, horrible things. I wonder if this is the things you cast out?
Shadow beings (SB) and demons(D) are 2 different types of dark entities.
SB's usually try to make a fuss and interrupt things but they can't actually posses an individual. They focus on fear as a means to control. SB's can be removed with relative ease if you know what your doing.
Think of SB's as a mix of nerd/bully they use their knowledge of fear get what they want but they don't want actual harm to come to you. They can have a really nasty *bite* and when you wake up with one hovering over your bed you think your about to die. Truthfully by getting up in its face, removing your own fear, and tell him to leave you alone. He has no right to be there and remind him of his low place in the Universe.
SB's rarely have a backbone.
As for D they will absorb themselves into you and want to push you to a final suicide. They will occupy buildings to cause terror and if theres a subtable host they'll possess the person. The whole purpose of demonic forces is to weaken and destroy. No long time good can ever be expected with these things, no matter "how cool" it is.
Xzavier > From your own personal experience of such things, would you say there was a general 'type' or profile for people who you believe to have been taken over in such a way ?
I think it is just the catholic church constantly trying to prove they are right and therefore they pretend that this person is possessed. It is all show it is all an act! Well in my books. The so called demons speak latin because the catholic church has created the image so they stick to it.
I'm not sure it's only Catholics who recognise and perform exorcisms.
In fact I'm sure it's not. I will try and look it up.
Normally they're white males who have been involved with the occult. Another was a woman who had a terrible past experience and because she failed to deal with it she became possessed.
Another time it was actually a large project in which several people were involved. It was at a"haunted place" and one of the observers didn't obey to the rules and was physically hurt by one of the spirits.
If a person has any opening no matter how small, of doubt, hatred, bad form of pride, disobedience etc. you can be opened to possession and influence.
For a person who understand spirits it can be rather easy to determine if a person is possessed or not.
At this time I'm going to say there is a difference between being possessed and influence.
Possession- it enters your body
Influence- it will try to get you to do things by speaking to you.It will try to enter you and it may torture you.
At one time or another most people will be influenced by a demon. Sudden onsets of depression, abnormal violent urges, sudden loss of interest in religious activities.
well latin is considered a "dead" language. So why wouldn't the dead use it. But I have to wonder about the reciently deceased who don't know latin. Do they teach it on the other side?
What gets me about Exorcism is its balenced argument.
Ive watched one or two (I know that's barely enough to make an opinion) but from them, ive always said "Thats fake" But i find in the back of my mind, i might beleive.
One could just suggest that the subject simply has a mental condition. The mind is more then capible of tricking itself - My reference is to Panic Attacks.
Possitive feedback can have such a negitive effect (Love Oxymorons)
Maybe people just want to beleive there "Possessed" To make up for there short comings.
Excelling subject, It never fails to be compelling. :)
As a trained Psychologist my concern is the number of indiviules who were seriously harmed because they had mental illnesses and thought to be possed. Instead of diagnosed properly.
"As a trained Psychologist my concern is the number of indiviules who were seriously harmed because they had mental illnesses and thought to be possed. Instead of diagnosed properly. "
I couldnt agree more. I'm sure many have sufferd at the hands of mis-diagnosis.
After paying a trip to google land I have seen a couple of 'good' depending on your point of view vids on u tube.
Also I was surprised to read that Muslims also practice exorcism along with several other Chirstian faiths.
Once you get past the Emily Rose posts there a quite a few interesting ones...too many to link to.
DasWolf-- I agree, many so called exorcisms have been carried out on mental patients, to their harm. Which is why both I and the Church bring in specialists to insure we're not just dealing with a mentally ill person.
It is very important the exorcisms we do are real.
I'm glad that I have never seen one... I think it would be pretty scary to watch. But I guess if a person needed you there or something then you couldn't really help it...
Yes they can be rather frightening thats one of the reasons why we don't allow people to watch who aren't involved.
Plus, if a person is afraid it can draw out the newly exorcised demon and attack them.
i have heard that before. that if you are weak you can be attacked by the demon
"the exorcim of emily rose" yes they claim this movie is based on actual events, and it probably is. However, moviemakers today have to spice it up a lot to sell it.
I do not personally belive the devil is real and can come inside you. I think it is all about the human kind having a dark side and a light side, and sometimes the darker part is more in focus.
well its not the actual devil but their body is being took over by an evil spirit or demon. I was thinking that the reason they speak latin is because catholic priests preform the ritual to remove them and isn't some of the ritual also in latin?
I went to the fair and saw a stage hypnotist get one guy to see a smile face implanted in the forehead of people he was told that only he could make it go away by whispering in the ear of the person effected by the smile face..
Hypnotism and suggestion are along with ventiliquism, and role playing a common thing in exorsisms, now with that said some people show Para Behavioral, phycosis, and embalenced are labeled possessed as well, the church got tired of the theatrics, in something that is a dark sticky mess in their history, kept popular by Jeisuit priest orders, who made the mot money off of exorcisims.
Isn't it said that latin was the original language that exsisted before the tongues where created?
UTAHVAMP- Relatively speaking Latin is a very new language. The first examples of a written language go back some 8-10,000 years.
Latin is based on the Old Italic Alphabet which is modeled (somewhat) on Greek. The earliest examples Italic language only go back to around 800 BC.
Thats good to know, thankyou, now how do we explain the ritualls where the victim actually exibits wounds and cuts that appear without warning on the body and can not be explained?
I'd still have to go with the fact it was a well spoken language around the time 'Lucifer' was said to have fallen.
Plus, as others have said, the Catholic church could be brought in for it.
I am not sure if exorcisms are real or not,but if they can happen,i would like to be in the room when one is done :D
Maybe the person is not really possessed but rabid. That would explaine the foaming of the mouth and the cursing in tongues and vomiting icky green stuff. lol
I believe that Latin is what Hollywood has dictated to us as being the language of the devil, so when televangelists conduct their "exorcisms" the possessed person breaks out into speaking Latin.
Lucifer was around LONG before Latin ever existed...why wouldn't Lucifer's language be something different? Some type of unknown language...a type of "angelspeak" that nobody knows of unless you are God or were an angel at the time of Lucifer's fall.
If someone were truly possessed, I would think that this is what would be spoken, instead of Latin.
I smell a rat too.
a finger nail burr can be used to create .. skin marks. A person that has studied their role will likely hear about the Scratches from their pre theatric event. They may also pick it up subconsciously from pre-exorism conversation. A hidden sharp or jagged object can be utilized to carve symbols into the skin that will be likely to be interpited as manifesting mysteriously.
To me the Para Behavior that an exorcism involves is just as astonishing as if it was what it is claimed to be, I mean to take one the role of a person that is possessed, at what point does the "victim" cross the line?
UTAHVAMP- No problem :)
As for your question, depending on the severity of the possession injuries can occur. The point of possession is to harm and sometimes kill. They are also, generally, a slow processes.
During the possession the entities may cause bodily harm as a way to torment and to cause fear.
If they happen during an exorcism it is the entities way of fighting back. People are very caring and if we see someone getting hurt as a result of our actions we might try to stop what were doing(the exorcism).
Very rarely do exorcisms end in death and the times that they do the individual knew what was going to happen and depending on the circumstances may have allowed it to happen.
The vast majority of injuries that occur during an exorcism will either disappear or heal shortly afterwards. In some cases a small scar may remain as a reminder.
The reasons why such bad things happen can be somewhat complex and seemingly cruel (how could God let this happen) but in the end there is a very real and important reason. Many lives have been saved/changed as a result of an exorcism and it also strengthens the faith(not just Christians) of those involved.
I must say I don’t know of any documented demons that have killed … I do remember some priest exorcising a woman and she died from starving and thirst… they were sentenced for such a horrible crime
Lav,
As bad as it sounds it's a matter of perception. We think it was the fault of the demons and many (such as yourself) thinks it was the priests fault. I do agree however that if the priests weren't following procedure or ignoring the possibility of a medical condition then it was their fault.
Examples like that is why the Church and myself take so much more care these days and do so few exorcisms (comparatively).
Our primary goal is/should always be the wellbeing of the individual(s) involved.
The devil doesn't care about anything but hurting people who follow God. The devil can speak in any language and be any where at any time.
Yes people like me have our own view… the judge did see them unfit.
I don’t doubt possession happens, I do doubt any religion proclaiming to have power over them.
Odd comment you made LKD devil only hurts gods followers?
Is that why im ok?
Latin was the language o' Kings an' Emperors, t' speak 'n such a tongue revilates 'ow intelligent an' wise you are as t' ot'ers b'cause since then it 'as been known as "The Forgotten Language". Satan speaks all languages but as ot'ers said the Catholic church is the ones doin' the Exorcist an' Satan will speak whatev'r language the speaker is sayin'...It's more o' a "Comfort Zone" if you speak Arabic he will say things 'n that language t' make you feel at ease, an' him not t' be an outsider, same as he can take on any shape.
