When a new movie comes out that is based on a book, I always here people say how much better the book was rather than the movie. Then when people watch the movie first they always like the movie first. Which do you do? Read the book first or watch the movie??
I'd have to say I watch the movie first since I dont have much of an imagination when I read without a visual. o.x
This is good question, I ussually would prefer reading the book first by all means. There is so much more detail and history about the characters than the movie gives. Such as Interview with the Vampire, or Queen of the Damned.
Both good but so much that was left out and switched around, or people with not the right age or when they meet. How they look or the color of their hair, little things here and there. It's all to make room for the film.
I'd watch first then read because then you will have the idea of how it goes and compare the differences.
i'd read the book first before seeing the movie . . . i just love reading
most of the time when books are remade into movies, they're never as good as the book is. hollywood will go through the book and get rid of the "unimportant" parts of the story and then edit the plotline to wahtever they choose to supposedly make the story "more interesting" and "suitable" for the big screen.
in my opinion, it's crap! just read people!
I dont think that I ever really decide whether to see the movie or read the book first...I do them in the order that I come across them, unless someone makes a specific recommendation
(ie. "read the book before you see the movie or you'll be horribly confused!" or "see the movie before you read the book or else you'll hate the movie" )
Normally I'm disappointed in movie adaptations of books that I love, particularly when the book has a strong narrator's voice which gets left out of the movie. I thought that the new Hitchiker's movie did a good job of leaving in the narration, probably because Douglas Adams helped write the screenplay.
I tend to like movie adaptations of children's books and of short stories because then they can *add* to the movie rather than take things away to make time.
There are a few cases where there have been books that I've despised and then I've enjoyed the movies...American Psycho is one that leaps to mind.
i think reading it is better kupo ^_^ even though i hardly do it because i dont have much time but i know books have much more detail and story behind it because a movie is only limited to so much time ya know? a book can go on for as long as it needs to.
I always read the book first and then see if the movie does it justice.. more times than not, it doesn't... and thats a shame because if the movie sucked, people won't take the time to read the book.
hmm i like reading so i guess i would read the book first, because it includes more informtation than the movies shows so i guess you would ruin the movie but oh well
I always read the book first because in the movies that leave out so much of useful information, it makes me angry *sigh* I was reading the Lord of the Ring books before I even knew about a movie and I was very glad, they left out so many good parts that I don’t really like the movies. But now they have the extended versions, they are better. And any one that watches the movies and think reading the book would be redundant do not know what they are missing. By the way I am a class A nerd when it comes to reading and proud of it >; )
most of the time i like to watch the movie cause they effing rock lol i saw that some where and i had to use it
If I read the book first, then watch the movie, I know I would end up disappointed. Why set myself up for that? Save the best for last!
It just depends, if i chance to get the book before I see the the movie the I read it, smae with the movie, if I chance to be able to see it first then i read the book later.
It really just depends. sometimes I see the movie first because i didnt know the book excisted. or vice versa. Me personally I usually like the movie more. more visual. eaiser to follow along. when reading a book you sometimes forget things because you have to put it down. However most of the time a book will give you more insight than a movie, so either way you have to watch the movie and read the book in order to get the full experience.
I like to read the book before I see the movie if there is a book.
Ussually Id prefer a book, because it supports the development of your imagination, but it is not a rule and Im not running to buy a book just to read it before seeing a film when I havent yet...
There is no other answer than read the book first.
Is so much better in every way possible
I saw two or three movies made after the book that were better than the book. I don't like to watch the movie first because it affects the way I imagine plot and characters when reading the book.
Yeah, sometimes I am dissapointed when I read the book. Some made a good point in saying why be dissapointed and save the best for last. :D
The book is more detailed obviously cause it's longer that's why some people prefare it.Sometimes movies don't make the story exactly as it is told in the book so I would prefare to read first:)
I'd say reading first is always better then you get the details and all that and you go get an idea althought you may not be as imaginative as most but you'll still get images floating in you head. then i usually watch the movie for better comprehension or to see if there is a point of view i am missing. but i say reading first is always good
The book is usually more interesting than the movie anyway. I like to read first.
The book is always better because it goes into more detail than the movie does. So I always try to read the book first before seeing the movie.
I prefer to read the book first.....even if that means missing a movie in the Theatre and having to rent the DVD.
honestly i;ve always watch the movies. i've never read a book that has a movie behind it.
I prefer watching the movie cause it gives me something to watch with my girl when ever we feel like watching movies.
I would say read the book first but I'm not a big reader, wish I was. I end up watching the movie and never reading the book but i'm trying to get into reading.
I hardly ever read books but there are some that strike my fancy. I usually just go and see the movie.
I would rather watch the movie first because i would get disapoited with the movie then i would not get to enjoy the film.
Depends on the subject matter, normally i'll read first then watch the movie and critisize everything wrong, but sometimes i think that the movie was better.
I would rather read the book first so i have some idea of what the movie is going to be like.and if i'd even want to watch it
I usually see the movie, don't have much time for reading. Don't really have the attention span for reading either. But that's just me.
I myself enjoy reading a novel of sorts firstly then seeing its adaptation to film. I feel we find films a disappointment at times after reading a novel first for we translate the novel differently, and what we visualize and gathered significant from the novel may not have been portrayed in the same way upon film, leaving us upset. Could be reason why we feel after seeing a film first that the novel doesn’t compare for we are doing just that comparing the novel to the film, and not visualizing the feelings the novel places past us when first reading.
I usually don’t compare the two as to I they seem to be two realms of difference, the novel is that of the authors deliverance, and a film is another’s thought. To I a novel seems to be more free, for we all imagine something of our own, what we feel is ours and a film is being told to us as though of accuracy to what the novel is truly about.
I'd rather read the book first! When watching the movie, I like to compare what they did or didn't do by the book!
I don't know! I'm just like that!
I don't like to read, couldn't imagine reading the LOTR before seeing the movies.
i read the books first but alough i read the books i still love the movies saying that though the books are always better for the simple fact that movies have to cut parts out and changer parts so its not as good but i love em anyways
watch the movie first as I am a slow reader.. infact i'll probably never get round to writing them
i'd have to say, yes, the book is almost always better....so....if you want the good story read the book....but if you want to see the movie, and not be disapointed the second it's over....watch the movie first so you're not comparing it to the book, but at the same time, you dont want to ruin the story behind the book for you're self.....it's really a bit of a catch 22....
The book is always better to read first. For instance, Hannibal. The ending in the book is COMPLETELY different than the movie. Plus reading the book gives you insider information that won't be disclosed in the movie. And there are always the little jokes that are completely missed without a background.
Book first, then movie.
mainly i would watch the movie first, and a book without pictures WHAT THE FU*K! lol
First, I like to read the book..
But then, usually I'm disappointed in the movie because it's a lot different than my imagination..
usually I will read then go see the movie. Cause usually they will have some good parts that the director won't shoot in the movie.
I would read the book then wait for the movie to come out on video !!
If i heard a movie was coming out that was based on a book, and i was interested in it i would probably read the book first to get all of the little details and then the movie becasue most of the time hollywood kinda leaves out stuff for time and all ^_^;;
I read the book first and watch the ,ovie second. However, if the book is a series and I know that there will be more than one movie I wait to read all the books first.
For example, Harry Potter. My sisters say their imagination when they read the books is now ruined! I will watch the movies after I read all the books...
I weird like that but, I enjoy my imagination more!
most of the time i do not read the books or see the movies i al way see it on tv so that is how i watch a new movies
~vlad~
to me it depends on the book, i like the movies but love the books more
most of the time i like to watch the movie first it just makes the whole thing easier
i usually read the book first. helps me to understand what's going on in the movie better.
eather way is always good, its just that in a movie you dont get al the details you do from a book, but like iv read a little here for thos with out a good imagination the movie seems to be better for all the visuails, me i prefer to read the book, but i injoy seeing the movie
I watch the movie first - that way I don't expect too much. Then I go back and read the book a few times so I can nit pick and complain about all the petty details that were left out or messed up, etc.
I have a tendency to read the book first, then decide if it is worth seeing the movie because the book is usually better...
I'll read the book first because when they make a movie from one they never go exactlly by the book they always change things. I've always found the books to be better. There have been times when the movies never made sense then you read the book and say "DUH" oh thats what they ment in the movie....
I don't have a preferance... Sometimes if I see a movie without even knowing it was a book, I will go back and read the book... I am more of a movie person then a book person, but I do enjoy both...
*~Gylanah~*
totally watch the movie..it builds up suspence..that way you can compare ans contrast..so yeah plus i love movies..books are really kool too...but i just do :)
DON'T CARE WHAT THE HELL YOUR READING, ALWAYS READ THE BOOK FIRST.
i prefer to read the book first as i prefer reading... if the books not very good i know the movie will be and vice versa lol :P
Read book first. Then watch the movie. Speaking of... anyone seen Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy?
ooh no I havent yet but I reaaaaally wanna see that movie, i Loved the books and everything else :)
I alway read the video jacket, usually having no money for the movie and the books I steal from the store not matching up to any of the movies I've seen.
Is it wrong?
